When Sasuke, Sakura, and Obito succeeded in making it back to the others, Kaguya made a desperate move. The dimension she took them to was one where the gravity was insane, restricting even her movements.
Sakura was sweating profusely now from overexertion and losing the battle against her limbs to keep them from shaking. She could not even sit up by her own strength in the current environment.
She listened intensely though, straining her neck to turn her head so that she could at least see what was happening to her boys.
Darkness started to press in on her vision once more, and she fought the urge to panic. Her body was almost at its final limit. She had abused it the last week, pushing it past its previous limits.
It seemed like it was all over the next moment, when Kaguya fired two pointy rods at her boys, the two unable to dodge.
She cried out, watching while being utterly unable to do anything. Kakashi and Obito forced their bodies in front of the boys to her relief yet horror. Obito she would not mourn much, but Kakashi was one of her precious people too. His death, while arguably necessary to protect one of the only two who could defeat their enemy, would be painful for her to witness.
The next moment, Obito made the ultimate sacrifice, saving his friend and the two who could save the world.
Sakura felt tears begin to slip from her eyes for the man who was her enemy. She now owed him everything for saving the three of them.
Obito left one final gift as Kakashi formed a Susano for the first time, scooping her up when Kaguya tried to kill her in a fit of blind rage and helping the boys push their enemy back. Sakura smiled weakly, pleased that she was still beside them in one way or another.
The dimension shifted again, Kaguya past desperate now and panicking, running out of options.
Kakashi had to set her down, gripping his head with both eyes squeezed shut in pain as the power Obito left him began to fade.
Sakura struggled to her feet, the gravity in this dimension one that she could function in with the last of her chakra.
She ran up the side of a cliff, seeing already the last play the boys were using to finish her and the one route the 'goddess' had left to escape them.
Pushing herself past that final limit, not worrying about the repercussions, she sprang into the air above the fight.
Indignation fueled her further as she pulled back her fist and shouted, "Shannaro, you deserve this for ignoring me, a fellow woman!"
She funneled her remaining chakra into that punch, pleased when a horn broke off the alien woman's head from the impact, before pitching forward and down towards her teammates' outstretched arms.
A bright flash of light enveloped the landscape as Sakura smiled. She closed her eyes as she felt her body giving out and knew she would not be able to catch herself. She mused about how much damage the impact would cause once she landed on the ground below.
When she didn't feel any impact, she opened her eyes again, surprised to see Sasuke had caught her and now was shifting her around so he could hold her bridal style in their home landscape. She reached her arms up weakly to wrap around his neck for a better hold and not worry him by going limp like her body wanted. He didn't seem to notice anything amiss; he was looking down at her with a faint smile. A faint smile that quickly transformed into a smirk as she blushed.
"Set me down," she said, starting to squirm, feeling embarrassed. He did so, as slowly as possible, refusing to let go of her entirely. He settled her against him as he had when he caught her after escaping the desert dimension by trading places with her discarded flack jacket.
She looked down, a slight frown on her face, but stopped squirming. She couldn't lie and say she didn't like the close physical contact with Sasuke.
Kakashi was caught in a tough place, grieving the loss of his friend and celebrating the victory. He hadn't bothered to process the sudden relationship between his former students. He had long known Sakura's feeling for the Uchiha boy had grown into a genuine love that pained her greatly to see him suffer and loose himself to darkness. He had not known until now that the boy's protective and cooperative feelings for her as genin had grown into anything at all.
Naruto was cheering, greeting the tailed beasts that were now freed from the tree. The tree itself needed only a fist bump from Naruto and Sasuke to unravel completely, freeing all those captured by its roots.
Hogoromo was there once more to congratulate them, an ethereal presence that wasn't exactly alive and not exactly dead.
Sakura's body began to feel heavy, and her limbs began to feel numb. She had hoped she had at least a little more time before she lost control of her body like this. She tried to warn Sasuke that she was going into shock and needed immediate medical attention, but she could not make her mouth and vocal cords move anymore.
She felt a flash of panic. She had known there would be some negative repercussions for pushing her body like she had. At the time, it wasn't a concern as she wasn't even sure that she would live to see the victory, let alone be able to think through her own treatment. In theory, she could recover from this state with time, immediate medical assistance, and some chakra pills. All things that her boys did not know, and any delay in receiving them now increased her odds of death.
As she fought to at least stay awake, so she could try to communicate with her eyes, she tuned back into a conversation that had been happening while she was internally assessing the situation. She felt the rumble from Sasuke's chest and knew he was currently speaking; she concentrated to pick up the sound of his voice.
"– I haven't decided," she heard Sasuke finish his sentence. 'Decide what,' she wondered.
She heard Kakashi speak next, his tone serious, "You can't honestly think any of those options are good ones."
'Why does Kakashi-sensei sound so tense,' Sakura's increasingly sluggish thoughts continued. She felt cold, numb, and confused. Her eyelids were heavy, but she coerced them to stay open, for what little good that did. She was having trouble focusing on anything; everything looked blurry. Why hadn't they noticed she wasn't responding to their conversation? She needed their help right now.
Naruto's voice spoke next, slightly angry, "After everything we just went through, after all you saw and felt from the Alliance, you can't be serious! Sasuke, the world is at peace now, there's no reason for you to think that's needed!"
Sakura felt the prickle of fear when she realized she could barely feel Sasuke's arm squeezing her tighter as his anger rose. 'Why are you angry,' she tried to ask, pushing aside her fear for her own life, worried for him once more.
Hogoromo spoke up before Sasuke could finish speaking, "Is she alright?"
The dialogue stopped as Sasuke turned her in his grip. She could hear concerned murmurs.
She pitched forward, no longer able to stand and no longer steady against Sasuke's side.
Sasuke didn't let her fall, easing her to the ground. She tried to focus her gaze on him, wanting to see him one more time, in case this was it.
They had been through so much over the past week…she supposed that if she was going to die now, at least she had lived to hear him tell her he loved her and know what it was like to kiss him.
She was pleased that she could see his lips moving, but the sound of his voice was far away to her ears. She wondered if he was saying he loved her again. She should try one more time to tell him she loved him too.
Before she could try, she started to lose what little focus she had, his face becoming blurry and dark, as if the light of the late evening was fading into night. She felt tears spilling from the unfairness of making it this far to die now, and closed her eyes.
