My name is Haruto.

Haruto Arashi.

Let me clear something up really quickly: I am a girl, despite what my name suggests. My parents were expecting a boy, got everything embroidered and emblazoned and engraved with "Haruto," and decided not to pick another name for their only daughter.

Since you're so interested, I'll tell you what I look like. I'm maybe 205-ish centimeters tall (a little over six and a half feet for Americans). I'm built all gangly and skinny, except right now, because of puberty, I kind of look like one of those walking stick insects. However, I've been weight lifting and doing martial arts for a big chunk of my life, so I'm also pretty jacked. I can deadlift double my bodyweight easily and I once punched a tree until it fell over. My shoulders are the only other weird thing about me. I got them from my dad, and they're broad and bulky, but the rest of my figure came straight from my slender, lean mom.

I have big brown eyes that sometimes look like honey in the right light. They're pretty cool. I also have pretty standard hair. It's thick and black. To shake things up, I have it cut super short so it's super spiky and frames my face. Sometimes it grows out and I look like a mop, but right now it's kind of a little bit wild and windswept. My face is diamond-shaped, my nose is crooked and my lips are on the thinner side. I have a shit ton of scars, especially on my hands, arms, and knees, mostly from generally being a dumbass.

I am 15 right now, my birthday's on the 11th of January, and I am a Capricorn.

My parents, Daichi and Samantha (she's American), both have Quirks completely different than the rest of the family. Papa's is called Seabird and Mom's is Rain Dance. My dad's a retired Hero-turned-mechanic and my mom's a post-trauma physical therapist. Mom can create small pockets of weather, which she uses to help soothe her patients or get them used to moving in bad weather.

My dad has these sweet wings. They're like the wings of a sea bird and they start at his shoulder blades. The tips almost reach the floor. He used to fly a lot, but not so much anymore. He was actually a sidekick to All Might and Sir Nighteye for a while, mostly helping with rescue operations. After a bad thunderstorm before my second-oldest brothers were born, an I-beam collapsed on his wings, and he almost died. He never healed quite right, so he retired from the Hero business with the promise to return if called upon.

I have six little brothers, all of whom are (three sets of) twins. They're a lot.

Eiichi and Eito, my youngest brothers, just popped their Quirks at four. They can shoot little ice spikes out of their fingertips, and their Quirk is called Frostbite. They find it funny to spit spikes all over the floor and watch people slip on them. They have little tiny baby wings, still fuzzy with down. When they're older, they should be able to fly, and I think their wings are going to turn out black or brown, with streaks of white like Papa's.

My next oldest twin brothers- they're eight- Taine and Tait- have the Quirk Arthritis. They literally make people's joints hurt by partially freezing them. Thankfully, their Quirk takes some time to charge, and they're always moving too fast to properly use it. They have black and white feathers on their ears that are indicators of their mood, like a second set of eyebrows.

The last set, Hades and Mienai, are fourteen and can spew kilometers' worth of mist from their noses. They also have wings, and they are definitely my dad's wings. They still only have their adolescent feathers though, so their wings are white and fluffy. They're able to almost get off the ground, but they won't be able to soar until they get their adult feathers. I'm not even sure their Quirk officially has a name. I like to call it Fog Horn because it's quite comical when they blow their noses.

Now we get to my Quirk. I have arguably the coolest Quirk in my family.

It's called Thunderbird.

I have full control over weather patterns, but I love channeling lightning. I inherited my dad's wings, but mine are more for diving and soaring like a bird of prey, probably inherited from my grandmother, who actually had hawk wings. They're speckled black and I think they're brown underneath, with a few white spots. When I fold them tightly against my back, the tips of my longest feathers reach the floor, and the tips of the joints peek over my head. When they're relaxed, I have to hold my feathers up so I don't become a dust magnet. My wingspan is twice as long as I am tall, which means I can't easily spread them indoors.

I was born with my wings, and for the longest time, my parents thought that they were the only part of my Quirk. I developed just like my dad: baby fuzz, down feathers, tube feathers, adolescent plumage. But when I was going through my first molt, the weather started to get screwy. When my wings would itch or hurt, dark clouds would swirl above our apartment building. When I took my first few flaps into the sky with my shiny new flight feathers, there was a micro-blizzard in June. That's when my parents decided to take me back to the Quirk registry. Turns out, I can manipulate the weather in a radius of about 80 kilometers. My Quirk is tied to my emotions, and with my temper and complete inability to focus, that can occasionally present problems.

I've wanted to be a Pro Hero since I was old enough to think. Since Papa's wings were better suited for active soaring, I used to watch tapes of Pro Hero Hawks online and try to copy his flying techniques, because his wings were built for passive soaring and speed, like mine. With my little kid flight feathers, I couldn't do all that much, but now I have my adult feathers and I tear up the sky.

The only problem is, I have mild Epilepsy that surfaced when I was a kid. And after using my Quirk for an extended period of time, I'm super prone to seizures. It was scary, but I managed to find out that my natural disaster limit is about half an hour for a super typhoon (don't worry, I tested it in the middle of the ocean). Basic weather (sun, snow, rain, wind) is about three hours. Flying is about four hours. Lightning depends. Nothing's wrong with how much or how powerful, just a time limit.

So, naturally, I decided to test into U.A. Only the most prestigious hero course in Japan. My dad got in touch with his old Agency (remember, he was one of All Might's sidekicks), and got them to recommend me into U.A. After some preliminary tests and a quick physical exam, I submitted my official application.

Guess what?

I got into the Hero Course!

I mean, of course I did, but I still had to clean up after my euphoria-induced flurry of indoor snow.

Then, about a week later, I got a call from a new number.

"Hello, the Arashi residence. This is Haruto speaking."

The speaker made a little "Aha!" noise and I heard papers rustling.

"Yes, hello Miss Arashi! My name is Nezu, and I'm the principal at U.A. We met the other day during your tests."

It took me a second to place his name. I vaguely remembered meeting a small group of faculty at the door, but I was too buzzed on adrenaline to really register which one he was.

I swallowed. "Uh, yes. It's nice to hear from you again, Principal Nezu."

"Likewise. I just wanted to inquire briefly if you would come to the entrance exam tomorrow at U.A."

I waited a moment for him to explain, but he never continued.

There were some more paper rustling sounds, then Nezu said, "Alright! Lovely speaking to you, Miss Arashi. See you tomorrow morning!"

Then he hung up.

Fantastic.

The next day, I spent all morning preening my wings. Of course I'd slept on them weird and pressed the feathers in every which way. How the hell would I make a good impression with wacky feathers? Then I hastily combed my hair and donned my flight goggles. I had on one of my mom's backless blue blouses, my best black slacks, and my shiny new tennis shoes. The perfect good-impression outfit.

I smooched my family and took off, summoning a raging wind to push me along. When I pulled up to the school, I figured I'd land with a bang. I dove down and swooped up at the last second, soaring about a meter above the crowd. Then I landed lightly on the top seat of a small outdoor amphitheater and hopped down the steps. About sixty other applicants were absolutely gaping at me. I grinned and saluted them as I strode toward the door, pulling my goggles down to rest around my neck.

I made my way to a group of girls chatting by the doors. Maybe I could make a friend or two while I was here.

When they saw me, they wrinkled their noses and turned away. Well, then. Assholes.

I decided to continue marching past them, but I eavesdropped a little. Don't judge, they weren't exactly quiet.

That's a recommendation girl. She came to show off, didn't she? What a brat.

On my way to turn around and yell at them, I slammed into a girl heading inside.

"Oh shit! Sorry!"

She had a bob of bubbly brown hair and her cheeks were rosy and round. She just looked really sweet and innocent.

She jumped and squeaked, "No problem! It's my fault, I wasn't paying attention."

I scratched the back of my neck sheepishly. "I'm Haruto Arashi."

"I'm Uraraka! Ochako Uraraka!"

I grinned and opened my mouth to respond, but she glanced over her shoulder and whipped around before I could.

A boy with really messy hair had walked behind her and tripped. Uraraka whipped around and tapped him. The boy hovered off the ground, wobbling awkwardly in the air as he tried to catch his balance. I gaped as Uraraka pressed her hands together and helped the boy back to the ground. She must've had some kind of levitation Quirk. Cool!

My phone beeped just as I was about to introduce myself to the boy. My mom must've said something. Nobody else ever texted me.

I grabbed the boy's hand and shook it hard. "I'm Haruto Arashi,"

He stammered in response.

Uraraka spoke for him. "This is Izuku Midoriya. He's testing in with me."

"Nice to meet you!"

Before I could actually talk to him, my phone lit up obnoxiously in my pocket.

"Sorry, I've got to take this," I moaned.

I peeled away and answered it, "Hi, Mom. What's going on?" There was a raspberry on the other end, "It's not Mom, it's Eito!" "-and Eiichi!"

"What."

They whispered to each other, just quiet enough that I couldn't hear them.

"On your way home, can you get some of the stuff called peanut butter?" "- Mom said it sticks your mouth shut!"

I rolled my eyes, "So you want to test it?"

Two loud mm-hmms.

"Ok, fine. But you're paying me back every yen, you understand?"

They hung up with an ear-grating "BYE!"

I turned back to Uraraka, only to find a small, furry animal standing between us.

"Hello, Miss Arashi!" he said chipperly.

I swore I recognized his voice. "Uh- hi... Principal Nezu?" I guessed.

He laughed, "That's right. It's me, Nezu, the one who could be a dog or a mouse or a bear, but more importantly, I'm the principal!" Nezu paused, then popped up again, "Miss Arashi, I need you to keep today sunny, a constant 28 degrees, and windless, if you please!"

I carefully made the changes, the air cooling. I hadn't realized how hot it was.

"Principal Nezu?" I said.

He hmm?-ed.

"I can only hold this weather for about three hours."

Nezu gave me a furry thumbs-up. "Absolutely fine with me! The tests shouldn't take very long at all!"

As he waddled away, Uraraka moaned, "I don't know if a short test is a good thing or a bad thing."

I smiled and nudged her shoulder. "I'm sure you'll do great!"

She smiled weakly back as I took off.

I had to go to four stores to find a jar of peanut butter (enough for my brothers, anyway). I still ended up getting three. One for each pair of twins, and enough for me to steal from. I shoved them into a bag and took off for home.

We lived in a tiny little two-floor apartment building on the second floor. We'd built a small landing pad on the roof for my dad and I.

I set down gently and leapt off of the platform.

After descending the flight of stairs to the roof, I reached the sad, battered door of our apartment. I could hear muffled sounds of a video game, a heated game of chess, and the nearly imperceptible sounds of book pages flipping.

I unlocked and pushed open the door. Eiichi and Eito were sitting on each other on the couch reading picture books. Taine and Tait were almost on top of them, engrossed in a racing game on the small, boxy tv. Hades and Mienai were sitting silently at the kitchen table, a restarted chess board between them. All six heads snapped up when I took the first jar out.

I smiled and got out seven spoons. Right on fucking cue, I dropped one and set the other six on the counter. With a hefty sigh, I bent down to pick it up. When I stood back up, all six spoons and all three jars had mysteriously disappeared.

I searched the house for a solid ten minutes before finding them huddled in a closet. My wings iced over, my vision was clouded, and tiny spikes rolled underfoot. The kids had set up an ambush!

"Alright! That's enough!" I yelled, funneling in a solid blast of wind.

The Quirks deactivated and I was greeted by six scowling, sticky faces.

I dragged them to the bathroom and scrubbed them until their faces were pink. After some whining and tears, I let them have more peanut butter. Well, scrape the jars, anyway.

Eventually, they all disappeared to their room to sulk and finish homework. I took over the kitchen and whipped up some dinner in the form of reheated okonomiyaki and glasses of milk. Mom and Papa tended to come home quite late in the summer, so it was usually my job to feed the zoo.

Dinner and showers went without a hitch, as did brushing teeth and climbing into bed. The boys shared the biggest room in the house, which was crowded with three bunk beds and a long table for homework and arts and crafts. Hades and Mienai had recently been upgraded to an extra-wide bed to accommodate their growing wings.

My room and my parents' room were easily a third of the size, which was unfortunate, as both Papa and I needed extra-wide beds as well. Mom and Papa had a bed that nearly took up their whole room. Mine was wide and low, and left just enough space in my room to fit my desk.

The boys settled after a round of smooches and goodnights, and I pulled their door shut behind me, making sure to tug a little bit so it closed all the way. With them put away for the night, I went through my routine, putting away toothbrushes left on the counter, flushing the unflushed toilet, and hanging towels that had fallen.

I used dry shampoo and a little bit of water to clean my hair, then washed my hands and arms really well. I couldn't shower very often because my wings could take days to dry, so I did my best. Papa didn't have to worry because his wings were essentially waterproof, but I got the short end of the stick in that department.

By that point, Mom had texted me that she was on her way home, so I turned on our hotplate and started another okonomiyaki warming for her. She'd do the same for Papa in an hour or two. I made my way to my room and got into bed, plugging in my phone to charge on my nightstand.

I took a huge, deep breath and flopped onto my stomach. A smile crept across my face.

I couldn't wait for school to start.
