Hello my fair readers! Please allow me to say sorry for the long delay on this chapter! I have been quite busy, and had a huge anxiety attack as well. I wanted to post sooner, but my energy is only just returning, so I have been writing in small bursts.
I want to thank you for your kind words. A few expressed delight at the longer chapter, so here I am, posting a whopping 10.000 words for you.
Also, one of you already guessed what I was getting at. It's quite uncanny to say the least!
So, this chapter was quite hard to write. An idea had occurred to me, and my muse sank her teeth into it before I could banish the thought. Bear with me. I have a plan. I think.
Please read on. And careful now; Smut abound in this chapter. *Wink*
Aro spent the rest of the night in Bella's bed. The young woman slept so soundly she may as well have been dead to the world. He held her close, merely enjoying the feel of her soft skin, her deep breathing rhythmic like the tides. As he held her, he followed her dreams. They were a little more tumultuous than usual, and he figured it was due to Carlisle's sudden arrival. Edward flashed through them on a regular basis.
Aro curled his lip. He needed to handle that family before they took away the most precious thing that had ever happened to him. Aro felt certain that at least Carlisle was convinced, but Edward, he would most likely make trouble once he realised Carlisle did not bring the young human back home with him.
Aro smiled darkly as he thought of their coupling. He had won after all. She had finally submitted to him, to their bond.
Isabella Swan was his now.
Edward had lost her for good. She would never leave him for that boy now.
He pondered the conundrum of her home sickness. It would pass eventually, he knew, but still, he did not like the thought of her being sad. Perhaps he should allow her to travel home to say goodbye to everyone. He could even come along to make sure she was safe. It could be done.
The young woman stirred slightly, twisting away from him, her back turned to him, laying slightly on her stomach, one leg pulled up beneath her, the sheet falling down to her thighs, giving him ample view of her back and buttocks. His gaze followed the sweep of her spine, caressing her soft skin with his burning need. He could smell her sex as she lay completely spread out beside him. He bared his teeth. He dearly wanted to run his tongue along every curve of her body, ending at her sweet centre, making her cry out his name in fierce ecstasy. He felt his manhood stir at the thought and he almost hissed with need. He took a hold of his already hard cock, stroking himself a few times, keeping his gaze on her.
He longed to be inside her. Then he relinquished himself. Patience. The girl needed her rest. It wouldn't be long now, then he would have her. She would wake soon, he could sense it in her breathing, the slow increase in her heart rate. His erection only grew harder as he waited. He was going to have a hard time maintaining control of himself once she woke completely.
She had slept for another hour before finally coming to, her body still in the same position. As soon as he realised she was awake he leaned in over her. He simply couldn't resist running a finger down her spine, making it stroke her between her cheeks almost reaching her soft folds. She responded immediately, groaning softly at his touch, making him all the more eager for her.
"Buongiorno, amore mio," he murmured, closing the distance between their bodies, his chest now flush with her back, his hard length pressing into her soft ass. He could smell her instant arousal.
"I confess I have a hard time resisting you, my dear," he growled.
She moaned softly at his words.
He brushed her hair aside and placed a series of gentle kisses to her neck and shoulders, pulling her gently from her sleep addled reverie. She hummed in response, her back arching a little as she felt his caresses.
Aro growled again, no longer able to wait. He clambered on top of her, rolling her all the way onto her stomach, his legs twisting in the sheets. He didn't care, he unceremoniously placed his now painful erection at her already damp entrance, and hissing with a mixture of pure need and delight, he pushed eagerly into her hot, tight body. She jerked slightly, and once he hit bottom he stopped briefly, allowing her to adjust to his penetration. She had released a hiss as well when he entered her, her fingers gripping tightly onto the sheets beneath her.
"Am I hurting you, love?" He asked softly, straining against his instinct to fuck her hard.
She felt entirely too good, her hot walls hugging his length at every step of his initial penetration.
"I'm a little sore," she said in a low voice.
"Do you want me to stop?" He asked, dreading her answer.
"No, but be gentle," she answered in the same soft voice. She was blushing slightly, he could feel the warmth from her.
He placed a reassuring kiss to her shoulder blade, slowly beginning to thrust, rolling his hips gently into her, her ass pressed into his lower abdomen. She shivered, though that could be because his inky hair tickled her skin as he bent down to kiss her back again. Aro did his best to not lose control, slowly taking her. She was beginning to tremble a little, and her body was tensing slightly.
It wasn't long before he extracted her first climax from her, feeling her rippling tunnel squeeze him deliciously. He slowed down as she came, not wanting to cause any discomfort, but she wriggled her hips, moaning hotly into the pillow, trying to get him to increase the tempo. Growling softly he obliged, his pelvis now slapping harder against her soft ass, jolting her frame a little.
"Oh god," she gasped, her voice muffled by the bedding. "Why does this feel so good?" She moaned, her muscles growing rigid again.
Aro bared his teeth in a smug smirk, bending down, nibbling at her skin.
"Because, this is what we are meant to be doing," he hissed into her ear. "We belong together, amore. You are mine."
She groaned in response, her hips bucking gently as she orgasmed again, a piercing whimper getting lost between the sheets. He pulled out and flipped her over, sheets twisting about them both, tangling with their legs. Aro paid no heed, but simply began thrusting into her again with enthusiasm, taking her one leg and bending it almost to her chest. This allowed him deeper penetration, and she swore explosively, her body jackknifing as she came apart almost instantly. He kissed her as she rode out the climax, feeling his own coming in fast. He laid down on top of her, their bodies now flush against each other, and he placed his hands beneath her shoulders, fingers curling around to keep her in place. He began to thrust more forcefully, their bodies meeting with passion, almost bouncing off each other. She released a throaty moan, and he kissed her passionately as he swiftly pulled her along into the abyss. She was throbbing around him and he groaned fiercely as he spilled his essence deep within her. She was still twitching slightly, but her body had grown lax, and he feared she might have passed out again. Breathing hard he looked into her face. She had not passed out, but she wasn't exactly lucid either. Almost chuckling, he rolled off her, pulling her back against his chest, allowing her to fall asleep once again, her soft behind pressed against his still semi erect cock.
Aro stayed with her until noon, not quite able to leave her. When she woke again, he led her in another deep session of love making. Once done she was practically mush.
"Why did no one warn me that vampires were so horny?" She mumbled as she lay splayed out naked on the bed, body covered in a fine sheen of sweat, panting harshly as she recovered slowly.
Aro had just climbed off her again and he chuckled darkly at her words. He could practically hear her nerve endings hum in satisfaction.
"I did in fact warn you, my dear. Remember? I told you I would turn you inside out."
She sighed contentedly. "Right, I must have been quite distracted at the time."
"Indeed, I am quite sure your head was filled with other thoughts, though I failed to read them."
She chuckled at that.
"Well, vampire king, even you can't have everything you desire."
Aro smirked and pulled her quite suddenly on top of him.
"I do in fact always get what I desire," he replied smugly, easily entering her body again.
She crumbled onto his chest as he filled her, a strangled gasp escaping her.
"Again? Are you serious? You're gonna be the death of me," she hissed with disbelief at his sexual appetite, even as she bucked helplessly against him, unable to resist the pull of her body.
"That would be quite counterproductive, my love," he crooned, placing his arms around her torso to keep her in place as he stroked up into her slowly, intimately.
"I suppose you will have to kill me eventually though," she said, breathless, almost moaning as he found a deep spot within her that made her shudder and quiver against his chest.
"In a manner of speaking," he agreed breathlessly, equally getting lost to the pleasure.
He held her close, caressing her back and ass, eventually making her climax again, then he let her go, and she straightened up, placing her hands flat on his chest, experimentally lifting herself up before sinking slowly back down onto his thick shaft, feeling him abrading her walls. Aro placed his hands on her hips, caressing her gently as she found a rhythm that suited her. Their eyes were locked on each other, but when she began to feel that niggling of an orgasm, her eyelids fluttered close, blindly finding her way over the edge, her soft cries and moans making him nearly lose control. He watched her intently as she came apart, seeing her skin flush, her nipples peak, her back arching. Once done, she began to move again, and he tenderly showed her how to rock her pelvis against his, allowing her a more direct stimulation to her clit.
"Oh my-" she rasped, her eyes snapping open again.
She began to move more purposely, almost instantly teetering on the precipice. Her eyes slid shut again, and he placed a finger under her chin.
"Look at me, Isabella," he crooned, making her eyebrows tug together in concentration.
She slowly allowed her lids to flutter open, and he kept her burning gaze locked as she began to shatter again.
"Keep looking at me," he urged hotly, sensing that she could shut him out at any moment.
She panted harshly, her hips moving urgently, and she gave a strangled cry as she finally orgasmed, keeping her gaze fixed on his face. He immediately sat up, holding her around the waist, and thrust up into her, their eyes still locked.
"You are mine now," he hissed against her lips, as she released an explosive gasp at his movement. "Do you feel it?"
She barely managed to say anything, her body too lost in pleasure.
"Tell me, you are mine, Isabella," he coaxed softly.
She couldn't take the connection, it was too much, and her eyes crashed shut. He halted his thrusts instantly. Her eyes snapped open, accusingly.
"Aro-" she began, but he started moving again, making her gasp softly in response.
"Tell me, you are mine," he urged more insistently, keeping her close.
She kept her eyes open this time, licking her lips as her body was flooded with thrills at his words.
"Tell me, and I will grant you what you need," he added, rocking sharply up into her once before reverting to a more leisurely pace.
She groaned, her eyes almost closing.
"It's too much," she managed, her fingers clamped tight onto his shoulders.
"I know you feel it, darling. Tell me." He delivered another hard thrust, and she cried out. "Tell me," he repeated hotly.
She released a strangled sigh, biting her lower lip. Aro bared his teeth at the display.
"Tell me, my love. You are mine!" He growled, almost at the edge of his patience, his lips hovering just above hers.
"I'm yours." Her voice was ragged, raw with emotion.
No sooner had the words left her than she found herself on her back again. He placed her ankles on his shoulders, laying down on top of her, so she was practically bent in two, her legs the only distance between their bodies. He grabbed her hands and placed them beneath her head, one hand keeping them in place. He held her close with his other arm wrapped beneath her shoulders, and when he delivered that first impossibly deep thrust she could do nothing but allow it, a high pitched whimper escaping her as he entered.
"Mine!" He hissed as he began to fuck her with deep breathtaking strokes, leaving no place inside her untouched.
"Yours!" She confirmed, her voice swiftly rising in volume, her body barely coping with his deep penetration, the silken rhythm almost too much for her senses to compute.
He hissed in satisfaction, plunging into her sweet heat so deeply he could feel her cervix shift around. He kept her like this for minutes, her body pinned in place, but her mind was soaring. She was already rigid, a few croaks leaving her throat as he fucked her straight into an incredibly strong orgasm. She released a strangled scream, his name wrenched from her lips, and that only urged him on, his desire rushing through him like a flash fire. His hold on her had completely immobilised her and she was at his tender mercy. This knowledge almost made him erupt then and there.
She was his!
His pace increased into a frenzy, his frantic movements sending her quite swiftly into another climax, and she shuddered deliciously, her fluttering channel gripping his length snugly.
"My Isabella!" He hissed, feeling his own impending orgasm now.
"La mia... la mia... la mia!" He chanted hotly, burying himself deeply within her as he suddenly spurted furiously inside her sweet core. Then he slumped, his breathing laboured. After a moment he looked into her face. When their eyes met, he felt his body tingle fiercely. She shivered beneath him, her eyes growing slightly wider at the sensation.
"What was…?" She gasped, her voice somewhat disconcerted.
Aro let her legs fall to the sides, still keeping himself inside her, so he could settle down on top of her before kissing her fiercely for a long moment.
He felt it instinctively, and he knew she did too.
"That, my dear, was our bonds fusing." He said in a low voice against her lips. He kissed her tenderly. "We are now irrevocably connected together."
He saw her brown eyes soften at his words, and then she relaxed, sighing contentedly, her arms coming up around his shoulders. He growled and buried his face in the crook of her neck, licking her damp skin sensuously. He began to thrust again, needing her once more.
She groaned which ended in a moan.
"My god, you really are insatiable," she hissed softly.
"Only for you, my love. Only for you," he replied, before taking her again, moving more slowly this time.
Aro had finally been able to extract himself from his lover's arms, leaving her to rest for a while. He could have happily continued their love making, but he knew she had reached her limit. She was quite tender in the end, even when he tried to be gentle with her. So he kissed her damp forehead, tugging her in so she could sleep. Then he had a hasty shower and left her room silently.
Aro found his brother, Marcus in the throne room. One glance told Marcus all he needed to know. He rose silently, gesturing for them to move the conversation to the study. Caius frowned at their silent communication. He decided to follow along.
"I suppose congratulations are in order, brother," Marcus said when Aro shut the door behind him.
"You finally managed to bed her?" Caius asked, his gaze searching Aro's face.
Aro nodded tersely.
"Lovely. Can I assume you will be back to normal soon then?" Caius was being sarcastic. He knew full well things had changed forever.
"The bond has been sealed," Marcus confirmed softly. "She can no longer fight it. Though her heart and mind will often not want the same thing."
"So I have noticed," Aro responded sarcastically. "I think she only submitted because she was tired of getting sick every time we were separated."
"Brother, that is not the case. She submitted, because she wanted to. It is a crucial step in sealing a bond, and it is not a decision taken lightly. She was most likely ready long before this." Marcus considered Aro, as the latter contemplated the words.
Aro suddenly realised his brother was right. They had nearly had sex in the car on their way home from the Moretti. Also after their sauna sessions. She had been ready then too.
"In any case, we are now through the worst part," Aro said, walking to his chair and sitting down.
"I think you will find that you are mistaken if you thought that was the hard part," Caius said, smirking.
Aro frowned, fixing his gaze on his blond brother.
"How do you mean?"
Caius chuckled darkly. Marcus glanced at him.
"Well, now comes the part where you will desire her even more. And she will desire you as well. You better be staying close to her, brother. She will not appreciate it if you keep her waiting." Caius smirked pleasantly as if remembering something.
Aro was almost tempted to check what was flashing through the mind of his brother. He desisted, frowning. That would hardly be convenient.
"How long will that period last?" He asked, not entirely sure if he should be pleased or not with that.
The truth was that he had found her quite delicious, and he enjoyed their frantic sessions, but he also had other things he needed to tend to.
"Oh, a couple of centuries most likely, depending on your connection," Caius responded nonchalantly, glancing at Marcus, who nodded mutely in confirmation.
Aro stared at them, bemused.
"How perfectly lovely," he then said, placing his face in his hands.
"What worries you, brother? Is she not everything you ever dreamed of?" Marcus asked, knowing the truth.
"She is," Aro confirmed softly. "She is so much more in fact."
"Well then, you should prepare for her to be integrated into our coven. Shall I see to it that she gets the necessary things?" Caius was all business.
Aro thought about it. He had been delaying this moment for as long as he almost could. He still had a few weeks left until she would have to make her final decision, but Caius wanted her changed sooner rather than later, and rightly so. She would be given a new name, identity, passport and even a phone.
She would also be granted access to a lot of the Volturi's private things, libraries, documents, treasures and so forth. Aro had not granted her access to a phone, fearing she might try to call the authorities or even her friends back home, which would be disastrous. Now however. She was his mate. He could no longer deny her basic necessities. The Volturi had their own private bank, so they could easily make the necessary preparations so that Isabella Swan would have her own bank account within a matter of minutes.
"Yes, please do. Also, please double the amount allotted to her private account," He finally said speculatively.
Caius frowned in surprise.
"Is that really necessary?"
Aro smirked softly.
"I will be taking her shopping this afternoon. She is going to need it."
Caius gave him a placid look for a moment, then walked towards the door speaking over his shoulder. "And I will book the shops for you as well, shall I? Is there anything else you need me to do? Set up a romantic dinner, a nice trip to Paris perhaps? 10.000 red roses?"
Aro almost chuckled. It was rare that Caius displayed any sense of humour.
"Thank you brother, but that should be all for now."
Caius waved behind him before disappearing out the door. Aro and Marcus sat in silence for a moment, both lost in thought.
"You know, I think there is a risk that she might still get unwell if you stay away too long, brother. Your situation is quite unpredictable, so have that in mind for the foreseeable future."
Aro nodded solemnly, understanding perfectly. Indeed he was quite certain that Marcus was correct.
After his meeting with his brothers, Aro went to Carlisle's rooms, which was thankfully on the opposite side of the castle. He knocked once before entering, finding the blond doctor sitting on his couch reading a medical journal.
"We need to talk," Aro said abruptly.
Carlisle blinked in mild confusion.
"Aro, please do come in," he replied, his voice mildly sarcastic, closing the magazine slowly.
Aro ignored the quip, and started pacing. Carlisle remained silent, watching the dark king with vague interest.
"We consummated the bond," Aro finally said, not stopping his pacing.
Carlisle didn't answer at first. He seemed to be schooling his features carefully.
"I'm happy for you?" He finally managed carefully.
Aro waved him off dismissively.
"My point is, she will most definitely be staying with me."
"Right," Carlisle agreed slowly.
"She is home sick, old friend. She misses her father, her friends. Is there something we can do to alleviate her suffering?"
Carlisle sat thinking for a moment.
"Well, she would most likely need a closure of some kind. And it would be a good idea to give her the opportunity to build friendships here. She is pretty isolated at the moment. I can't imagine what she must feel like. Introvert or not, humans need a certain amount of familiarity with others."
Aro considered it, halting his steps for a moment. "Alright, I will see if I can find some humans for her to interact with. They cannot come here to the castle though, far too risky." He began to pace again. "How do I give her closure?"
Carlisle sighed, seemingly amazed at how clueless Aro could be, especially considering that he could read minds by touch.
Aro scowled somewhat. "Listen, I never focus on that part of their mind. These trivial human feelings are of no interest to me." He scoffed at the very idea.
Carlisle shook his head.
"If only you could show some interest, Aro, you would understand a lot of things."
"Spare me the lecture, Carlisle," Aro spat, holding up a white hand. "I do not have the time for it. Just help me help Isabella, please."
Thirty minutes later Aro entered Bella's room silently. He had acquired the first few things for her already and was eager to present them to her. She was still in bed slumbering. He chuckled softly, and went to her, sitting on the edge of the bed. She was in the same position he had left her in, and when he placed a hand on her cheek, she stirred slightly, her brown eyes blinking a few times before focusing on his face.
"Hello, amore," he said softly.
She smiled dazedly up at him, stretching out onto her back. He felt his loins stir as he saw the sheets twist around her naked form, a breast suddenly free. She seemed to sense his thoughts, because she smirked deviously at him, clearly inviting him in. Despite his suit, he was on her in a flash, kissing her deeply, hungrily, and she moaned, her hands coming around his middle. He allowed her to have a few moments before pulling back.
"You should get dressed, my dear. Lots to do today. We need to go shopping," he said, allowing a finger to travel across the curve of her breast. He sat back down, smirking when she huffed in annoyance.
"I will have you later again, love, however now, there are more important things we need to do. Get ready, it is going to be a long day of purchasing various items that you will be needing."
"But, I don't have any money," she answered, slightly perplexed. He laughed deeply at her statement.
"Really now, you thought I would be leaving you with nothing to spend?" Still chuckling, he plucked an envelope from his inner jacket pocket, handing it to her.
Swallowing a little, she took it apprehensively.
"It is your credit card," he explained as she opened the letter, unfolding the sheath of paper.
"Holy shit, Aro, I can't take this!" She gasped, nearly dropping the paper from her shaking fingers.
She stared at the amount of money deposited into her personal account. The normal amount for a new Volturi guard entering their service was 1.5 million Euros. Aro had asked for the double for his mate.
"You certainly can, and you will," he said firmly, peeling the plastic card free from the paper to hand it to her.
He then produced a small square velvety box. She looked at it, her eyes widening with shock. Realising what she thought it must be, he shook his head hastily.
"No, nothing like that. Yet," he reassured her, smiling.
She gulped somewhat, and sat up, the sheet falling from her waist. He enjoyed the view of her lovely chest while she took the box in her hand.
When she opened it, she frowned slightly before hesitantly pulling out a car key. She looked at him, confused.
"This is for your Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio." he replied to her unspoken question.
She gaped at him, apparently having no idea what he just said, his italian far too smooth for her to follow.
"I got a car?" She gasped in a soft whisper after a moment.
"I do hope you like red," he said, smirking at her bewildered expression. "Also, I need to give you this."
He took one last item from his breast pocket, handing it to her as well.
"This is yours. It should work perfectly, and there is plenty of money for you to call anyone you need. I can only ask that you be careful with your words when you talk to anyone who is not in the know."
She stared at the proffered smartphone for a long time, biting her lower lip. He saw it tremble gently, and realised she was on the verge of tears.
"What is the matter, Isabella?" He asked her quietly.
She shrugged and hastily wiped at her eyes.
"Nothing."
He waited, but she said nothing more. He could imagine what she was thinking though.
"I am sorry for not providing one sooner, love. I know you have missed talking to your family and friends. I feared that you would use it to try and escape me. I needed to keep you close. I hope you understand me."
She glanced up at him, nodding. Then she flung herself into his lap, her arms tightly around his shoulders, trembling violently with silent sobs. He held her close while she cried.
"I told you, I would make you happy. You shall want for nothing when you are with me, mia cara."
"Thank you," she whispered softly, still clinging to him.
"My dear, you need not thank me." He gave her a gentle squeeze, and she pulled back slightly, looking into his face. Then she kissed him, her passion almost overwhelming him. His own need suddenly flared to life, and he kissed her back greedily.
"I should have offered you a phone much sooner if this is my reward," he said breathlessly as she pushed him down onto the bed, her fingers working impatiently to open his placket.
He was ready for her when she pulled his cock free of its confinement. She placed him at her entrance and unceremoniously sank down onto his length, a throaty moan coming through her chest. He watched in mild awe as she began to move, fucking him until she was shuddering slightly on top of him. It didn't take her long before she climaxed, the pleasure tearing through her, her hips jerking as she ground down onto him. She stilled for a moment, her head hanging forward, and he waited for her to recover. Suddenly she lifted herself up, climbing off him and aiming for the bathroom. He just saw her naked ass disappear around the door into the hallway before he realised she was done.
"What the-?" He hissed, sitting up in astonishment. "Isabella, where are you going?" He demanded, looking down at his cock. It was still glistening with her essence.
"You said I needed to get ready," she replied casually through the door. He distinctly heard the shower being turned on. "So I'm getting ready," she added loftily.
He almost growled. The audacity of the girl! He flashed to the bathroom, finding her already under the running water. When she saw him standing there, his cock pointing almost accusingly at her, she smirked wolfishly.
"Is something wrong?" She asked innocently.
Aro growled deep in his throat, and in a flash had her pinned against the wall, his clothes soon soaking wet as he thrust into her sharply. She gave a husky cry as he filled her.
"I do believe you forgot something, my dear," he hissed, thrusting eagerly into her.
"You could see it as reciprocation for your earlier actions," she said breathlessly, even as he made her shudder.
He didn't answer but kept fucking her until she met a swift climax. When she recovered, he began to divest himself of his wet clothes, intending to make her see just how much he could pleasure her in a short amount of time.
After their frenzied sex, they got ready together, Aro explaining just what was expected of her during the day.
"I should like you to purchase an entirely new wardrobe, my dear. We will do that first. Then I will take you to a furnishing store, so you can pick out the furniture you like. Your rooms should match your own taste and needs. Lastly, we can find other stuff, like books and things you enjoy doing."
She scowled somewhat. "Can't we do that last one first?"
"No, my dear, because then you will not want to continue the shopping," he said, smirking as her scowl deepened.
"Can't you just pick out what clothing I should buy?" She asked sniffily, pulling on a blouse.
"I certainly could, carissima, but I am not certain you would appreciate my taste in what you should wear. Most of it would be… Impractical."
She frowned at that, not quite understanding him. Finally the penny dropped, and she blushed deeply. "Alright, I will come with you then," she relented, her cheeks still pink.
"Thank you, my dear," he replied placidly, padding her ass gently.
They were soon in the garage below the castle, where Aro had led her to her very own car. She stared in unadulterated astonishment at the sleek deep crimson vehicle.
"This is mine?" She asked, allowing a hand to run along the flank of the vehicle.
"Indeed," he confirmed, delighted at her reaction. He gallantly opened the driver's door for her, and she peered inside, barely daring to breathe.
"Aro, this car looks ridiculously expensive!" She exclaimed as she sat down in the driver's seat.
Aro closed the door, and was in the passenger's seat beside her in a second.
"It is not so bad." he handed her the key, smiling.
Soon they were driving up the ramp and through the streets of Volterra. She didn't exactly drive fast, but he knew she needed to get a feel of the car. Also she was still human. She would never dare to drive like he would for instance. Though that would change shortly.
He directed her to a shopping district, where he instructed her to park beside a large van, and a truck lorry.
Soon they were walking through the narrow streets, until they found what they were searching for. She reluctantly glanced at the windows containing flashy garments displayed on mannequins. Aro took her arm and pulled her into the dark interior of the shop.
He made her get everything. Dresses, trousers, blouses, cloaks, underwear. It took hours, and she was exhausted long before he was done with her. The staff simpered at his meerest wave, knowing full well he would reward them richly if they pleased his young companion.
After a couple of hours she actually stomped her foot in frustration, asking for a break from trying on clothes. Aro dragged her to a small café where he ordered her something to eat.
"Thanks," she said, after chewing her last mouthful. "I was getting hangry."
Aro was reading a newspaper while she ate, but he searched her face while she spoke, confused. "Hangry?"
She snorted, nodding. "It's what you say when you get so hungry that you get angry. Hangry," she explained, popping a roasted almond into her mouth.
"I see," Aro said, not seeing at all.
She chuckled at his evident confusal. "It's a human thing." She shrugged.
"I do not think so," he replied smoothly. "Our kind can get pretty nasty when left unfed."
"Touché," she agreed, lamely. He chuckled deeply at her expression.
"So does the ridiculous amount of new clothes mean that I won't have to shop for all eternity ever again?" She asked, plucking another almond from the bowl in front of her and placing it between her teeth to bite it in half.
Aro regarded her, smirking darkly at her innocence.
"I am afraid not," he then answered placidly. "Vampires tend to go through garments a lot quicker than humans. You will see in time," he added when she wrinkled her eyebrows in confusion.
"Are you done eating? Excellent, let us go then," he said, pulling her from her chair, leaving a generous tip for the waitress.
Their shopping spree continued, and Bella was getting pretty annoyed with the dark vampire. She was scowling as he presented her with every variation of every kind of furniture and decorations and designer things. It was clear she hated shopping. He pressed her until they were done, and then pulled her along to find a book shop, watching as she grew slightly placated when they entered the quiet shop. Everything they had purchased so far had been picked up by a Volturi guard waiting at Aro's command, so they wouldn't have to haul everything around with them. Aro patiently followed the young woman around as she looked through the books, paging through a few. She seemed hesitant to purchase them though, and eventually he stepped close, caressing her neck tenderly, into her ear.
"May I remind you that we are here so you can buy the books you like, dear," he said in a low voice, glancing around to see if anyone was looking at them.
Bella nodded once, shivering as his deep voice trailed down her neck, and because of his sudden proximity.
"I know, but I don't like spending all your money, Aro." She didn't look at him, her cheeks flushed slightly.
"My dear, I do not think you realise just how impossible that would be," he responded, chuckling. "You are my mate. Will you please just get on with it?" He added, taking the book she was holding and placing it in the basket at their feet.
She heaved a sigh and looked at him. "Fine," she agreed tersely.
He smirked at her, and with vampire speed collected every single book she had touched so far, but had decided to leave behind. She gaped at him.
"Aro, this is ridiculous!" She hissed in mild consternation. He simply gestured for her to continue, his gaze quite unrepentant, and she gave him a last withering glance before she went on to search for more books. He merely chuckled at her and followed along.
"So, did you get your shopping done?" Caius asked smoothly when Aro entered the study with Bella in tow a few hours later. She glanced at the blonde vampire, apparently trying to ascertain if he was joking or not, then she nodded shortly, before plopping herself down on the sofa, burying her nose in one of her new books.
"Grudgingly," Aro replied eventually, smiling as he watched his mate curl up comfortably to read.
It was early evening, and she had had enough shopping for a lifetime. Aro went to sit down beside her, allowing her to rest back against his side.
"Perhaps now would be a good time to ask Bella what she would like to be called in the future. We need a name for her new passport." Caius walked over to sit in the armchair by the fireplace. His hair almost looked like a halo with the fire's reflection in his locks.
Bella looked up shocked at his words.
"I have to change my name?" She asked, almost desperately.
"Well no, however it might be prudent. Especially if you plan on disappearing from your loved ones."
She considered this for a long time.
"I'll need to think about it, is that okay?" She finally asked cautiously.
Caius nodded slowly. "Do not take too long, Miss Swan," he replied.
She bit her lip worriedly.
"Can we have a moment, brother?" Aro asked, feeling like she needed to talk it over in private.
"Certainly." Caius left at vampire speed.
"What are you thinking, my dear?" He once again felt that frustration at his inability to read her mind.
She sighed, not entirely able to put her thoughts into words.
"It's just. Why do you need to give me a passport?"
Aro adjusted his position a little so he could stroke a finger languidly down her arm.
"Well, you may need to travel once in a while, especially since you're with me. Apparently my brothers are under the impression that we won't be able to keep away from each other for the foreseeable future." He made a wry face.
"Really? I thought things would get better once we…" she trailed off a little embarrassed now.
"Well, it is hard to say if it did what we hoped, but that is not what they mean. Our desire for each other will supposedly increase exponentially now."
She stiffened.
"You mean more than it already is?" She sounded shocked.
"That remains to be seen," he replied, smirking a little. "It will however be a good while until things settle down, and so if I suddenly need to travel, it would be good to have a passport so I can bring you along without any trouble."
She listened intently. Then she turned around, to face him.
"Don't you have a private plane?"
Aro regarded her, smirking slightly.
"We do. We have two, in fact."
"Don't you use those for traveling?"
"It is in case of emergencies, dear one. Sometimes we have to travel the normal way as well."
"Right." She seemed far away.
"What name do you have on your passport?"
"I have Aro Luoni."
She grunted. "That's a pretty name."
"I am pleased that you approve," he said, smiling gently.
"I thought Volturi was your last name."
"It is more our coven name."
"Huh."
She said nothing more, but leaned back against him, getting ready to read.
"I have been considering something," Aro said thoughtfully after a while.
"Oh?" She put her book back down.
"Would you like for me to arrange a visit from your father?"
She turned around sharply, not able to hide her shock and gratitude.
"You'd do that?"
"Certainly, amore mio," he said softly, caressing her cheek gently. "I understand that you miss him."
Her eyes filled quite suddenly with tears, and she gave a sad nod.
"Shall I see if Carlisle can have him come over? I am sure he would not mind helping with that."
She gave a strained smile and nodded again. She closed her eyes and the tears fell heavily.
"Are you alright, my dear?" He asked, wiping her cheeks gently.
"Yes," she whispered. "I'm just happy."
Aro felt his dead heart swell. Apparently Carlisle had been onto something at least. Trying to understand human emotions was not as silly as Aro had previously presumed. He leaned forward and kissed her gently.
"That pleases me, tesoro. Of course, your father can never know our true nature, my dear. You do understand that, yes?"
She nodded hastily.
"Of course."
"Alright, I will make it happen then." He gently turned her around to make her relax again. She tried to read on, but tears kept running down her cheeks. In the end, he gently removed the book from her slightly trembling fingers, and lifted her so she could sit in his lap. She buried her face in his neck and sobbed gently. He said nothing, but allowed her to vent her feelings.
"I never thought I would get to see him again," she mumbled, her voice strangled with emotions.
"I understand, my love."
"It's been so long since I saw him last." She sniffled gently. "I get to say goodbye after all. I can't tell you how much that means to me, Aro."
He didn't respond, but merely hugged her close, kissing the top of her head. He would have to hand it to Carlisle. The man certainly did have some pearls of wisdom. Sometimes.
Aro had made quick work of his promise to have Charlie Swan come to Italy for a visit. He asked Carlisle to help with the necessary arrangements and so a week later the man was on a plane. He arrived in the castle courtyard, and Bella insisted on going down to meet him. Luckily it was a cloudy day, and so Aro joined her. He would usually not have bothered to greet a mere human, but he was quite literally compelled to go, too curious to keep away. Bella didn't object to his presence, so he didn't think it would be too intrusive. As the car's doors flung open, she began to run forward, greeting her father with a massive hug just as he straightened up from getting out of the car. He hugged her back fiercely.
Aro waited patiently for the two to separate, eager to greet the man himself, curious to see if he was readable contrary to his daughter. They hadn't seen each other for more than eight weeks and it took them a long time to collect themselves.
Finally they parted clumsily, and Bella turned her father around, facing Aro.
"This is Aro. The one I told you about on the phone. My Italian professor."
Aro blinked in mild surprise at her words, but played along instantly.
"Mr Swan, welcome to our…" he grabbed the man's hand, shaking it pleasantly. All the while he reached out and found that connection that allowed him full access to a person's mind. Only this time the thoughts seemed slightly hazy, as if they weren't quite complete.
"...Our school," he finished his sentence, having to draw a hasty conclusion from what he could see.
Bella watched him curiously, as if she sensed something wasn't right.
Aro kept his grasp, peering interestedly through anything he could get a hold on.
If this... an ...alian professor loo… ike, I may want t..itch career.
Aro almost smiled at the sheriff, but he kept his cool.
Nice suit, b… eez his hand is cold.
Aro let go, giving an elegant gesture towards the castle entrance.
"Please, do come in," he said pleasantly.
Bella followed her father in, glancing at Aro. He waved her on, gesturing for her to go on, ignoring the stab of regret he felt as she walked away. They had already agreed what room the man should stay in. Aro had chosen the same part of the castle as Bella had her room in. Less risks of any… accidents there.
Charlie looked around curiously, taking in the surroundings.
"So, this is a school?"
"Yes, my room is this way. I managed to get you placed close by, dad." They went off together, talking quietly.
Aro was tempted to follow, but he desisted, instead going back to his study. They needed their alone time and he would have to give it to them. It was a challenge for him. He had practically had unrestricted access to her all week, and now he needed to respect her privacy. It felt unnatural to him.
Carlisle was waiting for him. Due to obvious reasons the blonde doctor couldn't be seen by Charlie who would find it too big of a coincidence that he was here as well.
"How did it go?" He asked curiously.
"Well, I certainly see where Isabella gets her talent from. I could barely read the man," Aro said, walking to his desk to sit down.
"Aro, that's not what I meant. I mean; how are they?"
"Right." Aro sat down, concealing the fact that he felt annoyed. "Well, she cried. He was emotional, but kept the tears at bay. They are in his room now, probably catching up."
His bitter tone did not go unnoticed by Carlisle.
"You're jealous."
"I am not!" Aro protested abruptly. "I am just not used to…" he halted, taking a calming breath.
Carlisle waited, smirking slightly.
"I am merely wondering how long it will be before I can see her again." He bent over his desk, looking intently at some paperwork, but seeing absolutely nothing.
The truth was that he had not realised that he would have to leave her side while she spent time with her father. Even though he knew it was the right thing to do, it felt so wrong. He almost sighed in frustration. He could only hope that he would see her later in the day again.
"How long will he be staying?" Carlisle asked gently.
"A couple of weeks." Aro sighed, having a feeling he would be seeing much less of his mate these next few days. The thought left him cold. Well colder than usual at least.
"You'll be fine," Carlisle said, walking over to clap him on the shoulder.
Aro barely listened.
"I should like to spend some more time with the man myself. He might give me an insight into his daughter's mind," Aro said thoughtfully.
Carlisle considered it.
"Maybe, but you won't find any shortcuts, old friend. She will probably always be quite a mystery to you. She will always have her shield."
"Yes, I realise that, Carlisle, I am merely doing what I can to get to know her better. This is not easy on me, you do understand that, do you not? I am used to having answers swiftly."
"Yes, old friend. I understand. But have you considered that it is not easy on her either?"
Aro paused abruptly, pondering his words.
"I suppose I have not."
Carlisle nodded, agreeing wholeheartedly. "Yes, so perhaps take it slow, there's no need to rush things. Besides, she needs time with her father. I promise you she will get through this, and then you can have her turned. Just don't push her too hard, or you may come to regret it."
Aro frowned slightly as he listened.
"You think I am moving too fast with her?" He asked abruptly, his frown deepening.
Carlisle thought for a while. "Not necessarily." He adjusted his position a little. "The tempo with which your relationship progresses is of course something you must figure out between the two of you. All I am saying is, don't rush it."
Aro scoffed slightly, adjusting his suit jacket unnecessarily. "You sound exactly like Marcus."
"Well, your brother has a point then. For now you are lucky that she can't leave due to your bond, but once she stops getting sick, how will you then hold onto her?"
They both fell silent, lost to their own thoughts. Aro wasn't sure he understood what Carlisle was saying. The bond had been sealed. She could not possibly tear herself from him now, could she?
"Anyway, I'll leave you for now. I promised Alice I would call. She's a little anxious about me staying here."
Aro lifted his eyebrows. "Really? What is she anxious about?"
Carlisle cast him a disparaging look.
"Yes, alright, I see your point." Aro waved him off dismissively, getting the hint.
Once alone, he allowed himself to fall into deeper thoughts. He wasn't sure if he agreed with Carlisle on his observations. What was wrong with moving faster? It achieved the same goal in any case. She would be his mate, and she would stay with him. She would find it nearly impossible to leave him, and that was what mattered. He needed her to want to stay with him. His mind lingered on various possibilities. He wished he had kept the mad vampire who was responsible for this in the first place. In retrospect it had been foolish to kill him. His gift was quite useful. He hadn't had much of a choice though. Fleming had been unstable and unpredictable. Aro sighed deeply. Then he let it go. For now he didn't need to worry about it. She was bound to him for now.
10 days later:
Aro had been spending his time in the castle, trying his best to keep away from his alluring, young mate. She had been struggling too, though she was quite preoccupied with her father. Aro had noticed that though she enjoyed their time together, she was beginning to look more worn as the days passed by. There was no question that the point of goodbye was approaching, and it tore her to pieces. There was nothing Aro could do to alleviate the symptoms of her sorrow. He knew she would get through it, and he would do his best to keep her distracted from it.
She and her father had been spending time in the village during the day, usually returning before mid afternoon. Today however they didn't return until after 7 pm. Aro had listened in on their conversation as they entered the castle, and had registered the slight strain to her voice. He immediately sensed that something was wrong, and he had to restrain himself to not go to her instantly. He heard them enter her rooms, and after a few minutes he flashed to her door, knocking gently. It was Charlie who opened, and Aro greeted him politely, despite his impatient need to check on his mate.
"Is something the matter?" Aro asked as he pretended to notice the worried look on Charlie's face.
Charlie hesitated, before stepping back to allow Aro entrance.
"It's Bells. I think she's ill."
Aro distinctly heard her vomit into the toilet. He walked swiftly to the bathroom and knocked gently, entering slowly. Her father followed behind, to Aro's intense displeasure.
"Isabella? Are you alright?"
She was kneeling on the floor, her hands holding her forehead up as she leaned her elbows on the toilet bowl.
"I'm fine, just feeling a bit queasy." She croaked.
Charlie looked uncertainly at her, then glanced at Aro.
"We didn't eat anything dodgy. I don't know why she's feeling ill."
Bella glanced at Aro, but neither of them spoke. They knew quite well what was happening, and he could do nothing to alleviate her symptoms right in front of her father. She seemed to know what he was thinking, because she got wobbly to her feet.
"It's alright dad, it's just a bug. I just need to rest a little." She smiled reassuringly at him, walking him to the bathroom door.
Charlie glanced at Aro again. "Are you coming?"
Aro hesitated, but Bella cut in. "No, I need to speak with him first, dad. Don't worry, I'll feel better soon enough."
Charlie frowned at her words, searching her face intently. He gave a last look at Aro, before exiting, walking to her door and leaving.
Bella turned to him, her palour acquiring a slightly green tinge. She lifted an index and hastily fell to her knees at the toilet again. Aro sighed. He couldn't quite understand why she would be feeling sick. Yes, they had been away from each other for a longer period than usual, but still, their bond had been sealed. He got a glass of water and knelt beside her, offering it to her as she finished dry heaving.
"This is becoming quite the habit," he murmured as she rinsed her mouth.
She gave a weak chuckle. He placed his hand on her brow, trying to see if she had any fever, but nothing seemed off. She got to her feet again, wiping her forehead wearily.
"Come, let us get you to bed," he said softly. She nodded, agreeing with him, and she led the way towards the door.
Aro was just thinking that at least she could walk herself, when he saw her do a weird sort of stumble. He practically heard the blood rush from her head as she started to fall. He hastened to catch her, hoisting her up in his arms to carry her the rest of the way. She was completely limp, her head lolling slightly against his shoulder. He placed her carefully on the bed, soon having her arranged against his chest again.
It didn't take long for her to come round, and he looked carefully into her face.
"What happened?" She asked, quite shocked to find herself in bed.
"You passed out," Aro replied softly. "How are you feeling?"
She sighed, and settled in a little more.
"I feel so tired. Did I really faint? I must be low on fluids. It was rather hot outside today, and I didn't think to drink enough. Maybe that's why I feel sick."
Aro hummed in response, but said nothing. Inwardly he felt slightly angry at her carelessness, but it would make no difference to point it out.
"Felix, please bring a pitcher of apple juice. Please approach carefully, we have a human nearby," he said all this in a voice she could hear, and she looked at him with mild disconcertion.
"That's a neat trick."
"Indeed," he agreed quietly.
Less than 3 minutes went by before Felix entered, putting down the tray on the bedside table and bowing, he left again quietly.
"Can I do that too?" She asked as she watched Aro pour a glass for her.
"Of course." He offered her the glass and she took a small sip, testing to see if it would hold. "Just make sure your father doesn't see."
She chuckled as she dared a larger gulp, and then another, drinking greedily. Aro replaced the glass when she was done, allowing her to settle against his chest, her face buried in his neck.
"I like sitting like this," she eventually said softly.
"Hmmm, I am beginning to suspect that you are getting sick on purpose," he crooned, allowing a finger to travel the length of her arm. "You just want to use me for your own gain."
She gave a laughter that rattled her frame.
"Well can you blame me?" She managed through giggles.
"I suppose I cannot," he drawled, pulling her tighter against him.
They didn't speak for a while, merely sitting in companionable silence. She suddenly grew quite rigid, and without a word bolted from his lap. He saw her aim for the bathroom in a run. She barely made it. He frowned as she emptied her stomach once again.
He was at her side in an instant.
"Perhaps I should have Carlisle come check on you?" He asked gently as she resurfaced.
"No, I'm okay. I probably have a bug after all."
Aro searched her face, but said nothing. He lifted her from the floor and had her in bed in no time, them both undressed for the night. He pulled her close, spooning her, making sure she was comfortable.
"Try and get some sleep, my love," he said quietly.
She didn't need much encouragement as she soon fell asleep, her body exhausted.
He kept still as she slept, making sure to keep close if she should need his help.
Next morning, she woke quite late. She found herself sprawled across Aro's chest, her cheek pressed firmly into his sternum.
"Good morning, carissima," He smiled as she groggily lifted her head to look at her.
Her hair was quite dishevelled, her cheeks slightly pink with sleep.
"How are you feeling?"
She pondered the question. "Better," she decided, smiling softly.
"Hungry?"
She nodded, her mouth practically watering. "Starving, actually." She leaned down and kissed him hungrily.
Aro called for Felix once again, making sure he brought a full breakfast tray to her room. Then he watched as she ate with vigor.
"You seem better," he remarked, smiling as she shoved an entire fried egg into her mouth.
She merely nodded, continuing to devour her food.
Once done, she leaned back in her seat, sighing contentedly.
"That's better," she said, closing her eyes, relaxing somewhat.
A moment later she was sleeping. Aro frowned at her. Something was definitely off.
He pondered calling Carlisle again, but decided to wait until she was awake again.
She dozed for almost another hour, before waking with a slight start. Aro sat down beside her, and she looked around at him. Then she yawned widely.
"Sorry, I just feel so tired," she managed, settling against him, and closing her eyes.
"I think it wise to call Carlisle, my dear. I feel there is something wrong and I would like to have you checked over."
She laughed softly.
"I'm fine. Really. I just need to get some sleep. And have you close for a little longer. But I have to pee." With that she got to her feet, and went to the bathroom.
He heard her stumble just as she reached the door, and he flashed to her side, barely making it in time. He caught her inches from the floor, and held her close, checking her breathing. She was quite pale.
He straightened up, holding her close for a moment until she woke.
"Not again?" She managed weakly.
"I am afraid so, love," he said placidly.
She heaved a sigh.
"Perhaps it is a good idea to call Carlisle," she said, sounding slightly defeated.
"Carlisle, will you please come to Bella's rooms? At once, if you would be so kind," Aro said at once, walking her to the sofa as he spoke. He set her down and turned around, facing the blond doctor just as he entered the room.
"You called?" He asked, gazing mildly at the young woman on the couch.
"Isabella is unwell. Will you please give her a check?" Aro said quietly.
Carlisle raised his eyebrows at him, but nodded all the same.
"Of course." He set to work, checking her pulse, her eyes, prodding her abdomen, feeling her throat and checking her temperature.
Once he finished, he sat down beside her, sighing wearily.
"Bella, when was your last period?"
Silence rang in the room at his words. Aro registered what had been asked, but he took more than a few seconds to understand the implications.
No.
Bella looked confused. "Um… It was due a week ago, I think. Wha-," She halted abruptly, her eyes growing wide as she suddenly realised what he was talking about. Aro walked to Carlisle in three strides.
"What have you found, old friend?" He demanded fiercely, though he felt he already knew the answer.
Carlisle sighed heavily, getting to his feet and pacing a little, before speaking.
"I take it you haven't been using any protection when you…" He trailed off, watching their mingled expressions of shock and horror.
"No way," Bella whispered. "That can't be possible!" She croaked hoarsely, sitting up quite abruptly.
Aro wholeheartedly agreed with his young mate.
"Carlisle, be reasonable. That is impossible!"
"Apparently not." Carlisle went to the door. "I will be back shortly." He said before leaving in a flash.
Aro stared at the closed door for a moment. Then he turned around, facing his pale mate.
"He can't be serious, can he?" She whispered, horrified.
Aro didn't know what to say. He felt shock racing through his system. Of all the possibilities to be the cause of her condition, this was the last one he would have ever considered.
It wasn't long before the doctor reappeared, and he held a small slim package out to the young woman.
"Just to be sure," he said gently.
Bella gulped and took the offered pregnancy test. She then stood up carefully, walking to the bathroom door. Just before she entered, she turned around.
"Aro?"
Relieved, Aro followed her into the room. She made quick work of using the test, having it sit on the counter while she stared blankly into space, sitting on the toilet. He waited silently with her. Suddenly ten minutes seemed an eternity. What on earth were they going to do if she was pregnant?
Finally the time had passed, and she slowly got up and went to the test, looking hesitantly at it. She picked it up, and turned around to show it to him.
"Should I say congratulations?" She managed weakly, as Aro checked out the result.
Of course he had known from the moment Carlisle had spoken. There had been no doubt. Even so, he felt ice chill his chest as he stared at the lines. It was positive.
Welcome to the end of the chapter.
I knooow, some might not like this plot twist, but I was helpless to change it once it set down camp in my mind. I had to do Aro as a father. I promise it's gonna be good. I hope! Lol!
Right, Imma go to bed now. It's late. Goodnight!
