Blazepanzer here, and welcome to my new story...of sorts. This is a prologue of sorts to my fanfiction the 444th Bad-c Blue division Sensado Squadron. Albeit, this prologue only follows Taeko Kondou, so yeah. And it's going to be fairly short, about seven chapters...maybe eight.
Fair warning, this fanfiction explores death, prison, and some sexual themes later down the line
At any rate, I hope you enjoy! Note: Blazepanzer does not own Girls und Panzer!
Taeko was hesitant to go along with Miho's plan. Sure, it could work, but something was telling her that it was a very very bad idea.
"Girls," Taeko began.
"Not now Taeko," Noriko begun, gazing out of the tank. "As soon as the Turtle is wedged underneath the Maus, be ready to rush onto the Maus, alright?"
"Right," Shinobu nodded, her face filled with determination.
Taeko sighed. We have to save Ooarai...but...this will either work or go totally wrong. She sighed, knowing there was nothing she could do. There's no use in texting on my cellphone, nor is there anything I can really do. Sometimes the Radio Operator job is such a drag...
"Right, the turret's turned! Shinobu, charge!"
"Guts!" Shinobu shouted as she propelled the tank forward.
Taeko closed her eyes briefly, and by the time she had opened them, she they were already on top of the tank. "Is it working?" she asked.
"As long as we can hang on and keep the turret from turning until Miho get on top of the hill, we'll be fineeee!" Noriko's speech ended in a yell as they felt the tank suddenly lunged downward.
At first Taeko thought that they had fallen off of the Maus, but she quickly realized that wasn't the case. In fact, the hadn't fallen much more than half a meter. Had they fallen off of the Maus it would have been closer to two meters.
The next thing she noticed was that the type 89's turret was slowing. Things seemed to move in slow motion as Akibe fired. At first she assumed that her friend had decided to fired in a desperate attempt to knock out the Maus. Not that it'd ever work.
However, Taeko 's eyes widened as she realized that Akibe's angry face turned to...she couldn't really describe it. She had a look of horror, fear, and anguish, almost like she had just seen...or rather done something terrible.
"Akibe...what is wrong with you?" Noriko shouted.
"I...I...I" The blond volleyball player stammered, tears flowing from her eyes. She just gazed down, tears flowing from her eyes. No sobbing, just a silent crying.
"Did she just?" Taeko asked, leaning toward Shinobu.
Shinobu nodded. "Yeah, she did."
She shuddered in response. I knew this was a bad idea! Now we've got...what...four...five...even six student's dead because of our gunner! And what was up with that fall?
"This is the Japanese Self Defense Force! Please exit the type 89 and put your hands up in the air. Or we will open fire!" A voice echoed over the radio.
"Sasaki...let's go," Noriko whispered, pain twisted on her face.
"Will they really fire on us?" Shinobu whispered as Noriko worked on coxing Akibe out of the tank.
"We fired on an open tank," Taeko whispered. "Who's to say we wouldn't fire on them?"
"How can you say that?" Shinobu hissed as Sasaki climbed out of the tank, the blond haired girl giving her a hurt look of understanding.
Taeko was too sick at heart to answer. Instead, she silently climbed out of the tank, gasping as she saw her surroundings. Noriko was already handcuffed, her gaze staring at something below her in horror. Akibe was in the process of being handcuffed.
They were surrounded by type 61 tanks, Cobra helicopters, and infantry kitted with with Howa type 20's, type 89's, type 96's rifles, as well as type 01 anti tank missiles. She could also see a handful of F-2 fighter jets circling overhead.
This is really quite the response! Taeko realized, becoming even more fearful. I figured the military might have had a response plan in case someone went rouge and began firing on the crowds or something, but this is...something else.
"Arrest them...lock them up forever," a feminine voice rasped weakly.
Startled, she nearly jumped, her foot slipping causing her to fall off of the Maus. She felt some liquid drip on her, and she turned, her eyes widening as she saw red. Her amber eyes grew even more wide in horror as she saw a mangled hand, and began to understand what had happened.
She now understood filly what had happened. The combined weight of the Maus and the Type 89 had caused the Hetzer's roof to collapses, causing the death of the student council. Sasaki, blinded by rage and grief, had fired into the Maus when one of her crew had opened up the side hatch to try and find out what had happened.
One of the armed guards rushed over to her, handcuffs in hand. "You alright?" he asked gruffly.
Taeko shook her head. "I'm really being sent to jail, aren't I?" she whispered, too numbed to move.
"Right now we're just taking everyone into protective custody." He whispered gently as he proceeded to handcuff her. "Any charges will be decided later."
Taeko felt tears flowing though her eyes as she was lifted up, and hauled over to a waiting truck. She could feel that her shoulder was wet, and that bugged her, but there was nothing she could do about that.
She was chained to one of the seats, sat next to Asuza to her left and Ayumi to her right. Across from her sat Hana, Aya, and Noriko. She gazed back outside as the door to the transport van was shut, flinching as Shinobu was being dragged over to another van, tears welling down her cheeks.
"Alright ladies, so here's the deal, we're currently transporting you to different facilities. As of now, you're in protective custody, so for the moment you're not being charged, though unfortunately that's not likely to remain the case. You may quietly talk among yourselves, however, you are to keep to indoor voices and no arguments or accusing each other or your fellow classmates. Any questions?"
"Where are we being transported to?" Hana asked gently.
"For right now that's classified," the driver began as the truck began. "You gals got the crowd in a right mess, and we're having to gather up all of the girls from both Kuromorimine and Ooarai to protect them from the rioting crowd.
"When do we get to talk to our parents?" Aya asked nervously.
"Hard to say, but we won't keep you from your parents for too long. Right now our sole concern is riot control and keeping you safe from those who might try to assault you."
"Are they being arrested too?" Taeko asked.
"Just you lot for now, they weren't involved in the attack itself, though they may be charged later on if the situation merits." The driver sighed. "At any rate, enjoy the ride.
At first nobody spoke. They were too shell shocked at what has happening. For Taeko , she had never been in trouble before. Well, she did get lunch detention for three days for a fight she had with a boy in elementary school, but that was ages ago. She had never been arrested before. She had never even been handcuffed before. So the whole thing was rather surreal to her.
She tugged gently at the handcuffs after about a half hour of riding, wanting to make sure she was actually cuffed. She was, and she sighed, growing board.
"You alright?" Hana asked.
"Not really," Taeko whispered. "I have someone's blood on my arm, and everything was...horrible..." she trailed off, letting out a small shudder.
"It's not on you Taeko," Noriko whispered. "It's on me."
Taeko shook her head. "No, I was going to question if what we were doing was wise..."
"And I ignored you. Taeko, believe me, this is on me, not you," Noriko affirmed.
Most of the girls were fidgeting, clearly uncomfortable with the situation. All but two. Taeko turned to Asuza. "How are you so calm?" she asked gently.
"Me and my younger brother used to play cops and robbers, so I've been cuffed before," Asuza shrugged. "Granted, they were just toy handcuffs, so I could de-latch them if I ever got tired of them, but still, I'm more used to it."
"Never figured you were the type to play cops and robbers," Aya noted.
Asuza shrugged. " I just assumed it was something boys played and went along with it. Our parents didn't mind, and in all honestly, even though it was a tad embarrassing the first time, it wasn't that bad."
"My brother used to play that with a friend. They'd invite me, however I had no intention of being handcuffed," Taeko mused. "It's unnatural." She then turned to Hana. "What about you, you're awfully calm in all this."
Hana sighed. " In all honesty I'm just trying to pretend my wrist aren't bound by metal clasps."
So she's affected by this just like us. She's just doing a better job of ignoring it, Taeko mused.
Ten minutes later and they were still moving. I...I wonder if they have prison volleyball...probably not...Taeko mused, trying to keep her mind busy. It had seemed like an eternity since she had been stuffed into this box. "Um, driver, how long do we have to travel?" Taeko asked.
"A long time miss," he sighed. "Almost feel sorry for you girls back there. Almost."
Taeko sighed. "Hopefully we're halfway there," she pouted.
"Ha, not even close," the driver huffed, before shutting off the intercom.
"Damn it," Taeko hissed softly. Hana gazed at her curiously, but Taeko just sighed and ignored her. She wasn't in the mood to talk, not when she was covered in specks of blood, and her hands bound behind her back.
"I kinda envy you Taeko," Ayumi sighed after what seemed like an hour.
"Why?" Taeko asked crisply, gazing at her fellow freshman evenly.
"You're in a sleeveless shirt, this standard uniform is hot," Ayumi noted.
Taeko shrugged. "I'm hot too, and not just from the heat." She let out a gusty sigh. "This is super embarrassing."
"I'm starting to get uncomfortable with this as well," Asuza spoke up. "I mean, I think the longest time we've been cuffed during our cops and robbers games was about...seven minutes? Maybe eight, tops"
"How does that work anyways?" Taeko asked.
"We'd play a round of Yu-gi-oh to determine if we escaped or not. If we did, then the next person faced a match. If not, then we'd be cuffed behind our back while the cop would run a race in Gran Trusimo , simulating the transport. Once that was done, the robber would be re-cuffed with our hands in front for about five minutes while the cop could ask various questions. Once that was done, we'd reverse roles," Asuza shrugged.
"That kinda seems complicated, for a game of cops and robbers that is..." Hana mused.
Asuza shrugged. "Made things interesting so to speak. The games me and my brother would come up with...ah those were the days," she sighed longingly.
"Nothing perverted I hope," Aya muttered.
"My brother's not a pervert!" Asuza snapped.
"No fighting!" The driver hissed.
"Sorry!" Aya and Asuza apologized, shame covering their faces at the rebuke.
Taeko sighed, knowing this was going to be a long...long ride.
Nobody spoke for the next thirty minutes. Taeko tried to ignore the dried blood on her arm and shoulder, though it was kinda hard to do given it was all too easy to accidentally see it in her prephreal vision.
Then, something very weird happened, Hana of all people began to wiggle rapidly. "You alright?" Taeko asked.
Hana stopped, sighing. "I want out," she whispered, before she began to wiggle again. "Too hot..." she whispered as she somehow managed to grasp her uniform in her mouth, and slowly began to unbutton her Sensado uniform.
It took a moment for Taeko to figure out what she was doing. She watched silently as Hana then somehow wiggled out of the Sensado uniform, before grasping the white Ooarai uniform in her teeth, somehow managing to pull it over her head as her cream belly was exposed, revealing her white lace bra. Oddly impressive given that it was Hana's first time being arrested.
Glancing around, Taeko realized that the other girls were doing the same. Even Noriko, who was wearing a short sleeved shirt joined in. Taeko sighed, not wanting to take her own shirt off, but doing so anyways, revealing her pink bra.
"You girls are crazy," the driver muttered.
"How can you see us if you're supposed to be driving!" Hana squeaked, clearly not registering the possibility that they might have a camera on them.
"I have a passenger keeping watch on you lot," he muttered, clearly not in the mood to listen to the protest of the girls.
"How embarrassing, though this does feel cooler," Asuza muttered.
Aya looked as though she wanted to say something but then clearly thought better of it.
However, even with their shirts more or less off, given they couldn't do anything about taking them off their arms, the girls kept complaining about how stuffy it was in there. Nothing more of note occurred during the journey except some random complaining and stuff.
And then, after what seemed like an eternity the truck came to a stop. "Right girls, I know it's been a rough ride, but you're at the facility. Remember, for the moment it's just protective custody, but it may turn into a prison sentence later on.
As they were unloaded, Taeko got a good look at the facility, her heart sinking deep as she realized she was already surrounded by barbed fences. She had no doubt of the severity of the situation when she had saw the military staring them down back at the Maus. But if any of them had any lingering doubts of the severity of the situation back then, as hard as that was to believe, the guard towers and fences surrounding them now eliminated that doubt.
The girls were...for lack of a better word...lead toward two massive doors, were six guards took over. Taeko found herself surprised as her guard was a guy, but she couldn't really muster the strength to protest as he gingerly guided her down the hall. "You got hot in the transport, I'm guessing," he mused.
Taeko sighed. "Apparently. How long were we on the move anyways?"
"Well...we got the call to expect new prisoners about four and a half hours ago, so probably close to four hours give or take," her guard noted as he lead her into a room, undoing her cuffs. "Undress," he ordered.
Taeko gazed at him, frozen in fear.
"I said undress!" he shouted.
Shuddering in fear, she did so, taking off her pants, shoes, hair ribbon, bra, undies and socks. When she had finished, she wrapped one arm protectively around her brest and tried to use her free hand to cover her waist.
"Good, now put this on, he ordered, tossing her a rather heavy yellow short-sleeved jumpsuit.
Taeko placed it on in a hurry, clearly not wanting to be naked in front of a man more than necessary.
"Good girl," he nodded in satisfaction. "Now, we'll lead you to your cell. We don't allow for roommates, so you'll have some time alone to think and wrap your criminal head around things," he laughed as he recuffed her, with her hands in her front.
Taeko just stared downward as she was lead through the hall known as G-7. "The G stands for girls, in case you're wondering," her guard noted. "This is a co-ed juvenile facility."
"You mean there's boys here?" Taeko gasped.
Her guard just chuckled. "Yeah, be careful about them. Some of them may be nice and harmless, but don't forget that everyone here has done something worthy of being here."
Taeko sighed. "What charges do you think we'll get?" she asked as they stooped in front of a cell.
"I'm your jailer, not your prosecutor," he muttered. "Right, Now I'll uncuff you and you can head on in."
Taeko sighed as she was uncuffed, and she walked into the cell, shuddering as the door shut behind her. She spotted a futon in the corner, and dove into it, breaking down into tears.
She had no idea when she had fallen asleep or how long she had been sleep for that manner, but weak sunlight flooded though the barbed window. She gazed out, noticing many boys and girls in the exercise yard, doing various exercises.
Her door opened, and a female guard speared. "Taeko Kondou, time for breakfast!" she shouted.
Her belly rumbled in response, and she nodded, rising up slowly. The guard didn't make any attempt to handcuff her or anything. "Follow the brown line and it'll lead you to the cafeteria, we'll know if you're somewhere you're not supposed to be. Do not make things any harder on yourself, you understand?"
Taeko nodded, and walked slowly along the brown line.
"And verbal responses only," the guard called after her. But when Taeko had turned, she realized that the guard had moved on to the next block.
Arriving at the cafeteria, Taeko was instructed to take a random number, which she did. She quickly realized that the tables had a corresponding number to them. So the seating is randomized each day? She mused, as she sat down at the table. Before long another girl and two guys joined her.
"You were at Ooarai, right?" the girl asked.
"How'd you know?" Taeko asked, before gasping. "Wait...weren't you a part of the Chi-nu's crew?"
The girl nodded, her gray hair swaying. "Yeah, names Aoi. Used to go by Piyotan, but..." she trailed off.
"Why are you here though...I mean...you weren't a part of the incident," Taeko inquired.
"Apparently it's a crime to operate a tank without proper training," Aoi sighed.
"Oh...I'm sorry," Taeko whispered.
Aio and the guy across from her ended up in a conversation about video games. Taeko meanwhile just ate in silence.
After a bit, the boy across from her gazed at her with his amber eyes. "You alright?" he asked gently.
Taeko sighed, gazing down. "No, it's all over for me," she sighed.
"No, it's not," he protested encouragingly. "I get that it may feel that way, but there's always an end to the sentence. Sure, we may have forfeited a lot of our opportunities, but we've still got an opportunity at redemption. so don't give up on your life, okay?"
She didn't say anything, still depressed about her situation. However, after a moment, she nodded. "What's the day like here?" she asked gingerly.
"Well, we start out by eating breakfast, then head on over to the exercise yard, followed by a brief fifteen minute respite, then it's work for the day. After that you get an hour to yourself after that in the yard or hall depending on the weather, then it's lights out. Unless you are really young, which they have a school instead of work, but that's for those who come in during grade-school, not high school.
"Oh, I see," Taeko whispered. "Thanks for explaining it to me," she added.
"Sure, no issue," he smiled.
The exercise yard came and went without much incident, and Taeko was happy to be doing something the loved for once, although it passed so quickly and furthermore, she was disappointing that she couldn't play volleyball anymore. With sadness she realized that she may never play it again if things came to worse.
Taeko found herself being lead to a group of cell, though they weren't handcuffed. "You'll get to visit your parents today, though the normal visiting hours won't be established for a few days," a male guard noted.
Her heart sank at the thought of her father seeing her in jail. What's he going to think of me...his daughter...in a yellow prison jumpsuit? She asked of herself, growing more and more anxious.
"Taeko Kondou, it's time," a male guard unlatched her cell's door, indicating for her to enter room 3.
"Yes sir," she acknowledged respectfully, entering the room to see her father and mother glaring at her.
"I can't believe you'd do something like this!" her mother ranted.
"I...have no words to justify myself Mother...I'm..." Taeko began, but her mother cut her off.
"Do not call me that. Taeko, from this moment own, you are disowned from the Kondou family," she hissed.
Taeko's eyes widened in shock. "But..." she sputtered.
"I have no daughter, she died the moment she entered that accursed Type 89," Her father growled, and her former parents turned to leave.
"Wait...can I speak to Hotsu at least?" Taeko begged.
"What relationship does Hotsu have to you stranger," Her father spat, and with that he left the room, his wife following.
Taeko stared at the door as it closed for a good two minutes, before slumping down and erupting into tears. "No...it can't be!" she whispered, sobbing rather loudly.
It took her about fifteen minutes for the guards to pry her off of the floor, and another hour for Taeko to stop crying. I have no family, I'm in jail, and I'm probably going to be here for a long time! She realized in horror. This just keeps getting worse and worse!
"Alright, tomorrow you girls will get your job assignments. Given you will probably be here for only a month at most before your final destination will be decided, you'll only be given the simple stuff," the guard announced. "Now, you girls may go to the exercise yard and hang out for a while. But no fighting, you girls got that!" the guard shouted.
"Yes ma'am!" Taeko chorused along with the others.
"Good, you girls are dismissed," the guard nodded. "Just follow the yellow line to the yard."
Taeko silently followed the other girls, not ready to join in their conversations just yet. She had stopped crying over being disowned, yet the gravity of the situation was still fresh on her mind, her father's gaze of anger, her mother's rejection of the child she gave birth to.
It's like I alone killed...no...murdered those girls, Taeko whimpered internally. I know I was just a bystander...but still...
At that moment she began to burn red hot in anger. Miho! She's the one who sent us on that deadly path! She...
Suddenly, her mind went back to that first day.
"Instructor, while they did do a good job with the shooting, Miho guiding a rookie team across the bridge like that was recklessness!"
"So you think you can just insult a teammate like that!" Ami growled in anger.
"No ma'am...I didn't mean that...I just think that we need to go over..." The ginger haired girl had began.
"What's your name girl?" Ami asked sharply.
"Ha...Hanoashi Katoni," the girl replied.
"Well Miss Katoni," Ami replied rather sarcastically. "You are no longer a member of this club. Now go!"
Taeko remembered as Hanoashi's dark green eyes widened in shock, but she didn't protest, she just walked off.
Hanoashi Katoni...she tried to warn us! Taeko realized. She tried to warn us that we, and specifically Miho, were being too dangerous! She let out a shudder. If only we had listened to her warning, then none of this would have happened!
"Taeko, are you okay?" Aya asked, walking up to her.
"I'm goo...no...on second thoughts, I'm not so good." Taeko sighed.
"What's wrong?" Aya asked.
"Parents disowned me," Taeko sighed. "Won't even let my little brother see me," she added.
"Oh...I...I'm so sorry," Aya whispered.
"Aya...did your parents disown you as well?" Taeko asked gently.
Aya shook her head. "No...but they didn't want to see me either. My big brother came to see me instead, apparently my mother and father couldn't stand the thought of seeing their little girl behind bars."
"Shinzaburo was in tears when he handed me a leader from my Mother," Hana admitted, looking downward as she walked. For the first time in her life, Taeko had seen the normally unstoppable flower girl in a dejected state, and she realized that Hana had also had a good crying spell.
"It feels weird not being able to wear pig tails," Aya murmured.
"It feels weird being in jail, period," Taeko whispered. A guard at the end of the hallway nodded and opened the door for the nine girls, and they exited the facility.
"Not too shabby," Erwin noted as a cool breeze echoed pasted.
Taeko nodded. "Well, at least they let us outside."
"But remember that work starts tomorrow for us," Aoi nodded. "Wonder what kind of jobs we'll get?"
"No idea, Ayumi sighed.
"So, um girls...I think we need to talk," Erwin brought up.
About what?" Asuza asked.
"Miho...there's something that's been bothering me," Erwin sighed.
"No, we don't need to talk about Miho," Taeko sighed.
"You don't have to join in if it's a difficult situation," Hana began. "However, I do agree, it's better we get the inevitable discussion over with."
Taeko gazed at Hana for a brief moment, before sighing. "I guess you're right," she relented. She gathered with the other Ooarai girls, realizing that it was just nine of them. Herself, Noriko, Hana, Aya, Ayumi, Asuza, Aoi, Erwin, and a silver haired girl she didn't recognize. Said girl just huffed and walked over to the edge of the fence, clearly not interested in their conversation.
"That's Erika Itsumi, apparently they got her and her gunner for firing on a Rescue Operation," Erwin huffed, doing finger quotes on the "Rescue operation."
"You mean when Miho dragged us out of the mud?" Asuza asked.
Erwin nodded. "They got all of us at Ooarai on something. The instructor's been arrested as well."
Taeko let out a smile. "Good, Ami do-nothing Chono needs to be arrested, not instructing us on safety and rules and other whatnot."
Erwin ignored her. "So, does anyone remember a Hanoashi Katoni?"
Ayumi, Aya, Asuza, and Taeko nodded. Hana, Noriko, and Aoi shook her head.
"The ginger haired Irish girl who looked kinda like Yolko from Sword art online? The one who tried to warn us that we were being too dangerous?" Taeko prompted, but Noriko just gave her a blank stare.
"Anyways, she tried to warn us, yet Ami kicked her off of the team right on the spot. I wonder what ever became of her?" Erwin mention.
"In all likelihood she went to a different academy," Erika walked over. "I actually went to Nishmari with her for a year, back when Kuromorimine's experimental middle school academy carrier ship suffered a reactor failure."
"So, what was she like there?" Taeko asked.
"Very responsible. It's no surprise that she was made the team commander at the end of that year." Erika noted, before rubbing her cheek. "She has a hell of a right hook as well," she added.
"Why?" Ayumi asked.
"She socked me in the jaw when I insulted her friend Yukaro, insinuating that he'd want to force himself on her. I got kicked off of the Sensado team and she got a two week suspension."
"And they let her command the team after that?" Erwin gasped.
Erika nodded. "See, the co-ed girls are very...very protective of the guys and vice verse. So any raunchy insinuations or attacks toward the other gender is...ill-tolerated to say the least. And so while her punching me might have upset the teachers somewhat, despite her having an arguably valid reason to, it caused a lot of admiration amoung the Sensado team."
"I see..." Taeko mused.
"So, what does this say about Miho?" Asuza asked.
"I hate her." Taeko spat angrily.
"Taeko," Noriko whispered, obviously never seeing this side of Taeko before.
For her part, Taeko flinched. "I'm sorry..." she whispered.
"It's fine," Hana whispered, though she seemed rather frightened by the girl.
"So, what now?" Erika asked. "Where do we go from here?"
"Don't know about you, but personally, I think the only thing we can do is serve our sentences," Taeko sighed. "We're caught, and we were involved in the Maus incident, so yeah.
"But that's not fair!" Aya shouted. "We weren't involved..."
"Yes we were," Asuza noted, glaring at Aya which caused the blond to shut up. "We helped distract the Maus to that the Type 89 could climb up on it. We might have not meant for anything bad to happen, but it did and now we're paying the terrible price."
"Is this really as terrible as the price the Student Council paid?" Hana whispered.
Taeko gazed downward, remembering how the blood of at least one of them had fallen on her, and the severed hand. She had no idea who's it was, but the sight still frightened her.
"Taeko Kondou!"
"Yes ma'am!" Taeko scrambled as a guard approached.
"Is your hair color natural?" she asked.
Taeko shook her head. "No. why?"
"We need you to wash it out as per rule section 3.A.72." the guard admitted.
Taeko sighed as she was taken away from the group. So much for that...
