Chapter 14 Selfish Scheme

In a bar in Modesto, California, Derek Dietl was in deep thought as he was nursing a drink. Derek had just received a call from Carl and Wendy about Susan's soon to be release. Now most men would be excited and thrilled about hearing their fiancé was alright and that would be reunited with them. Not Derek. Susan's physical growth into a giant as well as launch into fame did not set well with Derek. Derek may present himself as a kind and caring man, but in reality he was prideful and shallow. He had big dreams for himself and he didn't want to live figuratively and literally in the shadow of another person.
A tv was currently showing Susan's battle with the Robot Probe and another man who appeared to be a lawyer spoke up.
"Could you imagine being the boyfriend or husband of that giant? That person would be both super lucky and famous!"
"Famous you say?" Asked Derek looking at the man.
"Yeah. People would love to meet that person, hear their story, go on celebrity talk shows, get a book deal, and get merchandise related to them." Said the man.
The gears in Derek's mind as he began to realize all the opportunities Susan's situation offered him. He could still rise up in the world by riding the fame train that Susan was becoming. True it wasn't what Derek originally had in mind, but if he played his cards right the skies were the limits!
"That would be famous." Said Derek with a smile before paying his tab and left the bar.
