Back at the mines, Amity, Eda, Hunter, and King continued down the shaft. Little Rascal was still following them and came up to Hunter as he landed on Hunter's shoulder.
"Hey," Hunter shrugged of the cardinal Palisman, "find a different perch, bird."
The shaft finally opened into another cavern, and inside this cavern were several stalactites and stalagmites, but they appeared to be made of a goopy, liquid substance that had hardened a long time ago.
"Is this Titan's Blood?" Eda asked.
Amity checked the map again and said, "It can't be. Eclipse Lake is farther ahead."
"Who cares? We did it!" King exclaimed happily.
As Eda went to touch one of the stalactites, Hunter yelled, "STOP! That's Fool's Blood. Don't touch it."
"Oh, so you can keep it all for yourself? Ha! Hard pass."
Eda raised her staff and struck one of the solidified packs of Fool's Blood. Unfortunately, she ignored Hunter's warning. As soon as she struck it, the pack of Fool's Blood cracked in half. But it did not stop there, the crack crept along the ground, fissuring more and more until the ground beneath Eda and King split apart and opened into a deep chasm that swallowed them both.
"EDA! KING!" Amity yelled as she hopped onto her staff.
"Wait! Take me with you!" Hunter begged.
"Yoo-hoo! Golden Guard!" Came the voice of Kikimora.
Amity and Hunter glanced back at the entrance to the cavern and saw the shadows of the Emperor's Coven getting closer and closer.
"At least untie me so I can escape!"
Amity was sweating, she didn't know what to do. She had to save Eda and King, but at the same time, could she really leave Hunter here to suffer whatever wrath Kikimora was undoubtedly going to bring down upon him?
"Please. I don't wanna be replaced," he begged.
"Ugh. Fine." Amity drew a spell circle and made the Abomination goo return to her flask. "So, where will you go now?"
"Now…" Hunter dropped low to the ground and swept Amity's legs from her in a single kick. Once she was down, Hunter ran off down the opposite shaft and said, "…I get to Eclipse Lake before anyone! Byeeeeee!"
Amity watched as Hunter pushed on a minecart until it managed to budge and hopped in as it carried him down. "That JERK! I'll–!"
"Ooh. Would you look at this, Captain?" Kikimora spoke. "We found our little Firestarter."
Amity suddenly found herself with a spear pointed right at her. The witchling was left with no choice but to sit on her knees. Her staff was taken by one of the Scouts as the Scout Captain stood next to her, spear at the ready.
"Now then, little Firestarter, why are you here?" Kikimora asked.
Amity still needed to save Eda and King, if they were still alive. She could make a break for it and transform into Heka. But then that would reveal her identity to Kikimora. The only reason why she thought the little demon woman didn't know about her Kamen Rider status, was due to the fact that the Scouts only confiscated her staff, and didn't bind her hands, nor did they request she relinquish her rings. It was still a trump card she could play, but she was hoping not to at the moment, however, there was another card she could play.
"I'd be less worried about me, and more worried about the Golden Guard," said Amity.
"What did you say?!" Kikimora asked.
"He's here, in fact, he just went down that mineshaft just now. Said something about getting to Eclipse Lake before anyone and especially that 'tool' Kikimora."
The Scout Captain looked at Kikimora and asked, "Ma'am, she's clearly lying."
Unfortunately for the Scout Captain, Kikimora was already going down the proverbial rabbit hole. "So, the Golden Guard is also looking for Titan's Blood, and he took off to Eclipse Lake! That little snake is always making me look bad! Well, now I can get my revenge!"
"Ahem. Ma'am, what about the Titan Blood?" the Scout Captain asked.
As if just remembering her real mission, Kikimora regained her composure and said, "Oh, yes. I'll get that too."
With a clap of her hands, the Abomaton Kikimora was standing on began to transform. Within seconds the magical mechanized goo golem had become a minecart.
"Heh-heh-ha-ha! This is going to be a good day," Kikimora remarked.
"What should we do with the girl?" the Scout Captain inquired.
"Oh, well, I don't care." With another snap of her fingers, the Abomaton minecart that carried Kikimora rolled down the tracks and into the shaft.
The second Abomaton transformed as well as two other Scouts hopped in and followed right behind Kikimora, and just to make it worse, they had her staff.
The Scout Captain turned her spear on Amity, making the young witch girl raise her hands up. "So, uh, did you come with anyone else, or…? Ugh. This is boring." She then proceeded to grab Amity by her collar and swiftly threw her down the chasm. In addition to Amity, she also threw in the Tamagotchi device that they used to track them down.
Amity screamed as she fell down the deep chasm, but before she could go any further, she was saved by Eda who grabbed the hood of her jacket. The young Blight saw her Tamagotchi device falling towards her and quickly grabbed it before it could disappear into the blackness below. When Amity looked back up, she saw that Eda and King were hanging onto Owlbert, who was now wedged between the walls of the chasm.
"Guy's, you made it," said Amity with relief.
"Just barely. Owlbert's knocked out, so we can't fly," said Eda.
"I could summon the Solar Chaser, but it's too cramped in here for me to do that," said Amity.
Silence hung in the air for a few seconds before King decided to throw in his two snails. "I'm just throwing this out there, but this would be a great time to bring out Harpy Eda."
Eda released a frustrated growl. "I don't know how! I've tried yelling at it, scaring it. Nothing's worked!"
Just then, Owlbert released a screech of pain. Eda, King, and Amity looked to the poor Palisman and saw that he was starting to crack, their combined weight was too much.
"Did you ever think about talking to it" King suggested.
"Ha! I–" Eda went silent for a moment. "No, I guess I didn't, but hey, it's a wild animal."
"You thought I was a wild animal once," King pointed out.
Another cracking sound increased the urgency of the matter, along with more of Owlbert's painful screeches.
"Okay, I'll try. Just, augh, give me a second."
King and Amity waited and watched as Eda closed her eyes in an attempt to communicate with the Owl Beast inside of her.
"What? You wanna make a deal?…Wait. I don't know if I can." More squawks and cracking noises cemented Eda's resolve. "Okay! Okay! I'll do it! Just change NOW!" A flash of light went off inside of the chasm, and a not a moment later, Harpy Eda flew out of with King and Amity in her arms, and her staff clutched in her right talon. "YES! Harpy Eda is back!"
As they flew, King asked, "What did you promise to do?"
"I don't wanna talk about it."
The trio flew down the mineshaft that the Emperor's Coven lackeys, and the Golden Guard went down, as they did, Owlbert changed into his animal form and landed on Eda's hair where he buried himself into her thick locks.
"I can't wait to see a real-life minecart chase," said King excitedly.
As soon as they exited the shaft, the trio looked upon the disastrous result of said minecart chase. The Abomatons were turned into smoking heaps on the ground, with the Scouts thrown in different directions, and Kikimora pinned under one of the Abomatons. She feebly tried to pull herself from under the wreckage but succumbed to her injuries and fell unconscious. King, Eda, and Amity hissed when they saw this, noting how bad this was.
"Guess minecart chases are lot more dangerous than video games make them out to be," said King.
As he said that, Amity's staff, Ghost, floated up out of the wreckage and back to her. Amity smiled and petted the back of the Palisman's head, happy to have her partner back. As they flew, they spotted a sign that read "Eclipse Lake" near another mineshaft.
"There it is," said Amity.
However, it seemed that the Scout Captain was not down and out just yet. She had one Abomaton reach out and grab Eda, holding her in place. "I don't know who you freaks are, but that Blood belongs to Kikimora!"
The Abomaton slammed them onto the ground, kicking up a big dust cloud around them. Eda managed to use her body and wings to shield King and Amity from the impact, opening her wings and moving her arms so she could let them move.
"Get to the lake! I'll take care of – Ack!"
The Abomaton whipped Eda backwards, sending her flying to the other side where she slammed against the wall of the cavern.
"EDA!" King cried out.
Amity grabbed King by his collar and got on Ghost as the two of them flew down the mineshaft, but not before the Scout Captain threw her spear in an attempt to kill Amity. But at the last second, Eda swooped down and caught the spear, putting herself between the Captain and Amity. The Owl Lady growled as she clenched her right fist and snapped the spear in half.
"Okay, Owl Beast. Let's see what we can do!"
Amity and King finally managed to clear the shaft and entered cavern where Eclipse Lake was. What they found, however, was not a lake. Or at least what was a lake. There was a big hole in the middle of the cavern, about seven feet deep and about twenty or more feet wide. At the center of the dried-up lake was Hunter, on his knees and doing something. Amity and King flew down into the hole where the two of them readied to do battle with the Golden Guard.
"Don't worry. I won't pick a fight. There's no Titan's Blood," said Hunter, his back turned to them, and digging.
"Then why are you digging?" Amity asked.
Hunter chuckled as he turned around, his expression was one of someone who had lost their will to live or was on the verge of madness. "Oh, it's simple really. Belos needs Titan Blood to make a new portal key. Can't get to the Human Realm without it."
Amity's eyes widened upon hearing this news. "There's Blood in the key?"
"Since I failed to take out Nuckelavee, twice, and then there was the failure at Latissa, I thought, 'Hey, a chance to make up for it'! But I can't go back empty-handed! Ahahahahahahaha…hahaha…Not again." Hunter took a deep breath and continued. "Long story short, this is meh grave. Want me to make you one too?"
King was mildly disturbed by this behavior, and so was Amity. "This really bumming me out."
"That's just life, rat. Everyone has a use, and if you don't…pffft…bye-bye. Your friend gets it."
The little demon turned to Amity in confusion and asked, "What's he talking about?"
Amity's expression fell as she took out the messaging device and explained, "Luz has been sending me these strange human codes." King got up on his feet and went over to Amity to see the messages of which she was speaking. "I don't understand all of them, but this one seems pretty clear. Come back with results or we're done."
King continued to stare at the images until a thought struck him. The little demon turned the Tamagotchi device around until it was now laying horizontally instead of vertically.
Amity looked at the message again, but this time, she was able to see what the message really meant. "'U R rad'." Amity pressed a button on the device and brought up the other messages that Luz had sent her. " Fool's Blood bad'. 'U okay'? 'Come home'." Amity laughed, not at the messages, but at herself for thinking the worst of Luz. For even a second believing that Luz would be that way. "Of course. This is Luz we're talking about."
"HEY!" Amity and King returned their gaze to Hunter and saw that Little Rascal was trying to stop him from doing this depressing act of digging his grave. "Go find a better witch to be with." Hunter fell forward into the dirt and piled a bit on his head as Little Rascal landed on his back and looked at him with worry.
Amity sighed and walked over to Hunter and knelt next to him. "You know, you were right. We do have a lot in common. I grew up thinking that everything was an opportunity to justify my existing, but there are people out there who won't make you feel worthless. You just have to let yourself meet them." Amity reached out her hand to Hunter as the cardinal Palisman perched on her right shoulder.
Hunter managed to pull his head out of the dirt to look at the offered hand of Amity Blight. And for a moment, it looked as if he was going to take that outstretched hand. But that was before he noticed something hanging out of her jacket. Something important, something he needed, that his uncle, the Emperor, needed. Slowly, Hunter rose out of the dirt, his eyes transfixed on that one singular object that would make everything okay.
"What are you…?" Amity followed his gaze and noticed that the portal key was sticking out of her jacket. "Oh no."
Hunter lunged for the key, but Amity managed roll out of the way at the last second and got into a fighting stance. "Oh c'mon. Being nice usually works for Luz."
"Well, you're not her, are you?!" Hunter retorted as he ran for Amity again.
King jumped in and released a powerful, "WEH!". A blast of magical shockwaves headed towards Hunter, but Little Rascal came in at the last minute and transformed into staff form, using his magic to block the magical shockwaves from hitting Hunter. The Golden Guard quickly grabbed the staff and initiated his short distance teleportation, but when he did, his body glitched out of the spell.
"Ugh. Normal staffs are weird," he complained.
That gave Amity time to draw a spell circle and make her Abomination goo slither out and wrap around Hunter, binding his arms to his body. Despite this development, Hunter kept teleporting again, and again, and again. Each time he did it appeared as if he was starting to get the hang of it. One more teleportation managed to free him of the Abomination goo restraint. Amity got on guard, but Hunter managed to teleport behind her and took a swing at her with his staff. The young witch girl ducked under the strike and spun around to strike him with her staff. However, Hunter teleported away at the last second, and reappeared to her left side. Amity quickly drew a circle and conjured a fireball, instead of launching it, she grabbed it until her whole left hand was engulfed in the blaze and lashed out with a backhand fist. Hunter narrowly managed to dodge the flaming fist, feeling the heat sting his face.
At the last second, Hunter focused the magic of his staff and formed a construct sword and thrust it towards her. Amity moved to the right avoid getting stabbed, unfortunately, the blade cut through the string that kept the key secured to her. The key dropped to the ground, making both witches look down at it. Without a second thought, Amity kicked the key as far as she could. She released Ghost and grabbed Hunter by his cape dragging him back with her as she got her left foot under his stomach and threw him. Hunter flailed in the air for a few seconds before he teleported himself back to the ground. He was about to go after Amity but paused when he heard a familiar sound.
[Driver On.]
Amity now had her MagiDriver on, and both of her rings on her ungloved hands. "That's enough. This doesn't have to go any further."
Hunter released his staff and then slid off his gloves as he took out two rings and slipped them on.
Amity furrowed her brow as she said, "Do you really want to do this?"
"If it means I get that key, then so be it!" Hunter exclaimed.
[Driver Appear, Now.]
"King, get out of this hole. It's about to get too dangerous."
King looked back and forth between Amity and Hunter, but reluctantly, he ran out of the hole and waited to see what would happen next. Amity and Hunter slowly moved the rings on their left hands to their Drivers, as if giving the other time to back out of what was about to happen. But the look in Hunter's eyes told Amity that Hunter was all in and would not back down from this. And if that was the case, she had to show the same resolve or risk losing the key.
"HENSHIN!"
"HENSHIN!"
[Ready, Open!]
[Roar of the Heavens!]
[The Goddess Descends!]
[Initiate.]
[I am!]
[The sword of justice!]
[I am!]
[The warrior who paves the way!]
[I am!]
[Crusa-Crusa-CRUSADER~]
A green magic circle and a purple magic circle appeared underneath each respective young witch. When the circles rose over them, Hunter and Amity transformed into Kamen Riders Crusader and Heka. The eyes of both Riders' helmets glowed fiercely as they stared each other down and got into their fighting stances.
"You know there's only one way this ends for you, right?" Heka asked.
"Yeah, with me taking that key, and showing the Emperor that I have worth," Crusader replied.
"You really didn't listen to a word I said. Fine." Heka twirled Lady Lucky around and had the blade end pointed up. "Then I'll just have to beat some sense into you. In all honesty, I was kinda looking forward to this. After what Luz told me what happened in Latissa, I kind of wanted to teach you a little lesson. Guess the Titan granted me my wish."
"Don't get ahead of yourself, Blight. You may have been doing this for a longer than me, but you're not trained like I am. I was taught how to fight against other witches, for when we have to combat a Wild Witch," said Crusader.
"Then show me what the Golden Guard can do!"
[Crow Scythe, Now.]
A black and purple crow appeared next to Crusader before it transformed into the Crow Scythe. Crusader grabbed his weapon and charged straight for Heka. The golden Rider charged for him as well, as she came within striking distance, Crusader slashed with this scythe, but Heka ducked underneath it and rolled away before springing back to her feet. Heka charged for him again, this time aiming for his back as she readied to slash him with Lady Luck. However, before she could land her blow, something else appeared. A purple construct of Crusader manifested between them and took the blow that was meant for him.
"What the heck was that?!" Heka asked as she jumped back.
Crusader turned around and that's when nine more construct clones appeared, each one wielding a construct version of the Crow Scythe. "I didn't get the chance to show off this ability. But the Crow Scythe allows me to create ten copies of myself."
Heka smirked under her helmet. "Leave it to you to have some sneaky trick up your sleeve. Well, I may not have known about that ability. But I do remember your weapon's other ability. You can bypass armor and shields with that blade."
"And how does knowing that help you?"
"Easy, I just need to make sure you don't hit me." Heka removed her Driver Ring and replaced it with an Arms ring.
[Call to Arms: Scarab Saber!]
The Scarab Saber appeared in Heka's left hand, as she dual wielded both it and Lady Luck. The Crusader Clones jumped up into the air and landed in a circle around Heka, completely surrounding her. Heka chuckled as she dashed away, the Crusader clones ran after her and began slashing the air in front of them, releasing crescent waves of energy.
"ARE YOU CRAZY?!" Heka exclaimed.
The crescent waves struck the ground, but as expected, they began to ricochet off the ground and the walls. Heka had to move quickly to avoid getting hit, but each time she was forced to stop, one of the clones would run towards her to cut her down. The golden Rider avoided getting hit by striking at the shaft of the Crow Scythe instead of the blade, she knew it could bypass armor and shields, but she wasn't sure if it could also pass through her blades, and that was not a risk she was willing to take right now.
[Hornbill Drill, Now.]
Crusader dashed towards Heka as she was busy with one of his clones. A black and orange bird appeared, and within seconds merged with Crusader's left arm to become the Hornbill Drill. The arm mounted weapon began to spin rapidly as Crusader closed in on Heka. And just as he planned, Heka was too busy avoiding the crescent waves and his construct clones to avoid his next attack. Heka glanced to her left just in time to see Crusader thrust out with his left arm and hit her in the stomach with the Hornbill Drill. The drill bit spun faster and faster as sparks flew from Heka's armor. A buildup of energy began to take place around the drill, and after taking one step forward, the drill released a burst of magical energy that sent Heka flying across the hole and into the wall. The crescents finally stopped ricocheting and Crusader dismissed the clones as he prepared to go after the key.
However, Crusader paused when he saw a golden light shine from the dust cloud. When the cloud settled, he saw Heka with her MaguScepter. "Okay, I see you want to do this the hard way." Heka pressed her ring into the golden plate of her staff.
[Rise Champion!]
[ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!]
[THE HERO OF LOVE & ORDER!]
[HEKA~]
[HEKA~]
[CHAMPION~!]
[THE GODDESS ASCENDS!]
A bright flash of golden light erupted around Heka, and when it faded, she had entered her Final Form, Heka Champion. "You should give up, like, now."
Crusader gritted his teeth; he was not about to back down now. With that in mind, he began switching out rings and activating them one after the other.
[Falcon Shield Wing, Now.]
[Eagle Lightning Wing, Now.]
[Raven Talons, Now.]
The Falcon Shield Wing and Eagle Lightning Wing appeared on his back, at the same time the boots of the Raven Talons appeared. The Crow Scythe in his right hand grew smaller and attached itself to his forearm. Now Crusader was fully armed, ready to fight Heka Champion. "I'm not leaving this place without that key, Blight!"
"And I'm not letting you leave with it," Heka responded. The Twin Heart generator within the MaguScepter spun rapidly, and with a wave of her staff, several Abomination golems rose, all of which clad in golden flame armor. "You're not the only one who can call on backup, only, I can make more than you. Abominations, ATTACK!"
Crusader went into action as he headed for where the key was. Three Abominations raised their flaming blade arms to slash at him, but the Falcon Shield Wing created a blue barrier around him, blocking all three from hitting him. Crusader spun up his drill and slashed through the three Abominations with the scythe and drill. Another three came up behind him to attack, but Crusader air jumped away from them, and came down with an ax kick, slicing the middle one in half, and then proceeded to slash through the other two with the Raven Talons. His speed, strength, and defense were greatly improved when he used all five of his rings. But Heka was stronger and faster, too.
Heka dashed across the battlefield, jumped into the air, and came down with an overhead strike with the MaguScepter's wing blades. Crusader raised a shield, but when he did, it cracked. A shockwave was released from the impact and caused the ground beneath Crusader to fissure. The MaguScepter spun up again, and seconds later a huge pool of Abomination goo appeared below Crusader. Heka vaulted off Crusader's shield as she did a backflip in midair before landing outside the area of her Abomination pool. With a wave of the staff, the Abomination pool rose around Crusader in all directions, and a moment later, came down like a wave and created a spherical prison around the avian Rider. Heka was about to pull an iron maiden on Crusader, that is until lightning surged along the surface of the Abomination sphere.
The sphere started to get cut and slashed, and after a few seconds the entire sphere was cut to pieces by feathers made of lightning. The feathers hovered in the air and then returned to the Eagle Lightning Wing. Crusader panted, he was already tired from everything else today, he was not expecting to battle Heka of all people. But he had to win, he had to get that key, no matter what happened, that key was all that mattered, all that would make him matter to his uncle. Crusader's drill and scythe disassembled themselves briefly to allow him to grab his next ring and slip it on.
"Don't do make this worse for yourself, Hunter. You're no match for me, and you know it," said Heka.
"I think you overestimate yourself, and you're underestimating just how serious I am about getting that KEY!" Crusader retorted.
"Then we're ending this, here and now." Heka stabbed her MaguScepter into the dirt and slipped on her Kick Strike ring.
King watched from the edge of the hole, having ducked several times earlier to avoid getting sliced up by the crescents, but now it seems that this battle was about to head into endgame, and the little demon could only imagine what was about to happen. At the same time, Heka pressed her ring into the MagiDriver, while Crusader scanned his ring with the Arcane Driver.
[ LET'S GO! KICK STRIKE! ]
[ ENDING STRIKE, RIGHT NOW! ]
Heka picked up her MaguScepter and widened her stance as golden flames raged around her body. Crusader's weaponry glowed, creating an aurora aura the flared up around him. The two Riders jumped into the air, with Heka performing a midair flip before she stuck out her left leg. A burst of golden flames propelled her forward as a construct head of Bast appeared around her, jaws wide open and ready to bite down on her opponent. Crusader flew straight at Heka; his aura became denser and then completely transformed into a screeching bird. The two attacks met in the middle of the empty lake, causing the entire cave to rumble and shake from the crashing of their two powers. The dueling lights created a kaleidoscope effect that made different lights and shapes dance in the air inside of the cave, as if the vein of the Titan was doing all it could to prevent their power from completely destroying the cave itself. King dug his claws into the dirt, as the shockwaves from their attacks threatened to toss him around. Unfortunately, he couldn't hold on for much longer and ended up losing his grip. King flew a few feet away and got his horns lodged into the cave wall, where he remained stuck.
The screeching of the aurora bird and the roars of the cat head echoed inside of the chamber. A light began to form at the point of contact, a light that grew brighter and brighter until a powerful explosion went off. A huge cloud of smoke filled the chamber and obscured both Riders from view. Heka was flung backwards and rolled across the ground, and as she did, her Rider form cancelled out, returning her to civilian form by the time she stopped rolling.
The young witchling coughed, she was not expecting Hunter's attack to be that strong, she hated to admit it, but she did underestimate how resolved he was. But that took a backseat to the immediate problem. Where's the key?! Amity looked around and that's when she spotted it about a foot away. The purple haired witch got up and ran over to the key.
"BEHIND YOU!"
Amity drew a spell circle at the last second with her left hand as she reached out and grabbed the key. That's when Hunter came rushing out of the smoke, with Little Rascal in staff form, and lashed out with the staff as he yelled, "IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP, THEN GIVE ME THAT KEY!"
Hunter's staff pressed on Amity's right wrist, but Amity had summoned enough Abomination goo to form a construct blade that was now pointed right at the witch boy's throat. And there the two of them were, in a bit of a stalemate, but Hunter knew better, he knew that all Amity had to do was will the blade in her hand to extend, and that would be the end of it. She was trying to make him yield, but he could also see it in her eyes, although she was reluctant to kill him, if Amity was willing make that choice if it meant keeping the key out of his hands. The other problem here was that Amity didn't look as tired as he was, no doubt she still had a lot of reserve power, and she was already a talented witch to begin with. But there was still one last trump card up his sleeve, as low as it was to use it.
"Listen, you're strong, and I'm tired. If this continues, you'll probably escape–"
"No 'probably' about it, Golden Guard," Amity interjected.
"…but here's the thing: We know where to find you, and your human," he finished.
Amity's eyes widened before narrowing into dangerous slits. "Are you threatening Luz, in front of me? You really need to choose your next words carefully."
"You know, and I know, that the only reason Emperor Belos hasn't made a move against either of you was because he needed the Phantom problem dealt with. And now, it has been. Your usefulness has come to an end, and right now, you're a liability. But you're a liability that hasn't – as of yet – caused any problems. So, if he were to find out that you kept him from his prize, he will come down on you and the human with no mercy," Hunter warned. "But you can avoid all of that if you just give me the key. I promise."
Amity gritted her teeth, and unconsciously tightened her right fist around the key. When she did, neither one of them heard the small sound of glass cracking.
"…Fine. But if you ever come after her, I swear, Emperor or not, I swear to Titan, I will burn down palace with you and him in it. That much I promise," Amity warned.
"With all due pleasure on my part as well," Bast added.
With great reluctance, Amity released her blade construct, and let go of the key. Hunter reached out and grabbed it as he said, "Appreciate it." Hunter stopped walking for a moment and then turned his head to look at the defeated Amity. "I, uh, mean that too."
Amity was about to glare daggers at the witch boy, but he quickly mounted his staff and flew up and out of the hole in the roof of the cave. Leaving her there, without a key.
Just then Eda finally showed up as she flew out of the mineshaft, perched on top of a rock, and said, "Ha-ha! Yes! I heard some epic fighting going on! I'm ready to go! Where's that nerd at?!"
"Gone," said King.
Eda turned around and saw that King was stuck, horns first, against the wall. "What the heck happened to you?" The Owl Lady looked into the center of the empty lake and saw Amity on her knees, looking forlorn. "Oh…Dang it."
Back at the Owl House, a passed-out Luz was snoring with the Tamagotchi device still in her hand. Suddenly, the young Latina roused from sleep as she bolted upright, eyes wide open. The pillow that had managed to get on her head fell off and revealed that her head was now covered in mushrooms, and other types of fungi.
"I feel…great!" Luz exclaimed.
"Ooh, same here. Ugh, we are never getting sick again, Niña."
"Yeah, that was a bit of a trip." Luz felt something on her head. She raised her hands to touch whatever it was and that's when she noticed the mushrooms. "I wonder if this is permanent?"
"It better not be, I am not going to be associated with someone who has fungi growing from their head."
Luz rolled her eyes at La Lechuza, but then remembered what happened before she passed out. "I gotta find everyone! I have to warn them!" Luz quickly got up and ran for her door, in her rush, the fungi that grew from her head started to fall off and disperse into dust. When she exited her room, she accidentally ran into Willow, making the soup she brought fly up into the air.
Hooty came in at the last second and had the bowl land on his head, after he said, "Safe."
"Have the others returned?!" Luz asked.
Before Willow, Gus, or Hooty could answer that, they heard a commotion downstairs and promptly hurried into the living room to see what it was. When they arrived, they saw King and Amity trying to help Eda back inside of the house, unfortunately her wings were not cooperating with that action.
"Ow, ow, ow! Just get an elixir!" Eda ordered. "I got into Harpy Mode, and now I can't get out."
"She also ate, like, nine voles on the way home," King commented.
"Hey, I had to keep up my end of the bargain," Eda remarked.
After one more tug Eda finally got loose and flopped forward, bringing King and Amity to the floor with her.
Luz was so happy to see not only her surrogate mother and little brother, but also Amity. She couldn't wait any longer and ran towards her, tackle hugging Amity as she said, "I'm so glad my awesome girlfriend is okay!"
Amity blushed and smile as she returned the hug. "Me too."
"No King hug?! What is this?! You are a swindler and a thief!" King accused.
"Aw, come here, buddy!"
Luz immediately scooped up King and began hugging him tight as she twirled around with him in her arms.
"No! Wait! I regret this! I regret everything about this!"
"No, you don't~" Luz sang.
Eda folded her wings and couched low to speak with Amity privately. "Do you wanna break the news or should I?"
"News?" Amity asked.
"The empty lake, the Golden Guard, losing the portal key. Ugh, today was a disaster," said Eda.
Amity smiled a little as she said, "Actually, we might be okay."
Eda raised an eyebrow of curiosity until she saw Amity open up her right hand revealed big stain all over her glove. "Is that…?"

*Chirp*
(Flapjack.)
"Heh, weird. Uh, can you say other things?"
*Chirp, chirp*
