I Do Not Own Twilight

This story, and it's title, was inspired by a group of three white-tail deer I saw in my backyard this morning. One of the deer was a doe, the other two were bucks. The two bucks were locking antlers and fighting, I presume over the right to mate with the doe. The doe stood there for a while watching the two bucks...but I guess she eventually lost interest. I watched her wander off, and the two bucks just kept fighting. I watched the two bucks continue butting heads for at least twenty minutes after the doe completely disappeared from sight...then I went to bed since I worked a double second-third shift. I have no idea how long after I went to bed that the two bucks continued to fight despite the doe's disappearance.

Twilight has two male, Jacob and Edward, rather conveniently fighting over one female, Bella. The two of them seem to enjoy insulting, sniping at, and threatening the other. Inspired by those three deer, I came up with this idea...

.What if Bella moved on while Jacob and Edward fought over her, and neither realized it?

Bella was in the hospital...

That was all Jacob Black needed to hear before he took of, just barely remembering to strip off his clothes before shifting into wolf form.

True, he hadn't seen much of Bella lately. That Leech was probably doing everything he could to keep Bella at his side. But she was still his Bella, his best best friend and the girl he loved.

If Edward had done anything to harm her, he'd tear the vampire to pieces.

Bella was in the hospital...

That was all Edward Cullen needed to hear before he bolted from the house.

Just because Bella had been avoiding him for some strange reason didn't negate the fact she was his love. The Mutt was probably involved somehow. But considering Charlie Swans attitude towards Edward, there wasn't much he could do at the moment without blowing his family's human cover.

If Jacob had harmed Bella however, all bets were off. He'd make the shape-shifter wish he had never been born.

Charlie Swan was nervous.

Sitting in the waiting room of Fork's General Hospital, his leg was bouncing frantically as he waited for news about his daughter. He'd probably be pacing if it wasn't for Sue Clearwater sitting next to him, her eyes firmly locked on the door leading to the area both their daughters were.

Sitting across from him, Seth Clearwater was watching the doors to the hospital itself, his mate Irina Denali was sitting beside him.

The existence of the Quileute shape-shifter and vampires was still amazing to him, even if it had been months since he'd learned the truth. As much as he hated it, he also understood why Bella had never told him herself...If he hadn't seen Leah shift by accident when Irina had first shown up, surprising everyone, and witnessed their fight, he doubted he'd have actually believed a word Bella had told him. Without proof, or a reliable way to provide proof, there was nothing Bella could tell him. And even when she and Leah got together...well, Charlie also understood that not only was it not Bella's secret to tell, but that she wanted to protect the woman she loved.

Luckily Leah and Irina's fight had fizzled out when Seth showed up and imprinted on the vampire, shocking the wolves present and the vampire in question into stillness. What followed had been a quick explanation, both for Charlie's benefit and to inform Irina what she was now a part of.

Learning that Leah had imprinted on Bella, and all that entailed, had actually helped Charlie cope with the newly learned secrets of his daughter.

The small courthouse wedding between Bella and Leah a week later, after Bella learned she was pregnant, had also helped. Even if it had just been his daughter, Leah, Seth, Irina, Sue, and himself, it had been what the two girls wanted.

He didn't question the fact that the child Bella carried was Leah's. Even if he was curious as to how the two girls could have a child together, and Charlie could admit that a part of him was, he had no desire to know that much information about his daughters sex life. So he had decided to keep his curiosity as just that, curiosity.

He hadn't ever been a fan of Edward Cullen anyway, and learning the truth about his and Bella's brief relationship only made his opinion of Edward, and the rest of the Cullen's, worse. And Jacob...well, now that he knew what had been happening behind the scenes, Charlie could only figure that becoming a shape-shifter had changed Jacob, and not for the best. The man he was becoming was so different from the boy Charlie had watched grow up, it was hard to see them as the same person anymore.

"Oh great," Seth groaned, drawing Charlie's attention to the younger boy. Seeing his daughter's brother-in-law looking at the entrance, Charlie turned to look.

He groaned himself as he noticed Edward Cullen and Jacob Black walking into the hospital, both glaring at the other.

The two boys were completely oblivious to reality. Neither seemed to realize that Bella had moved into a house on the reservation with Leah, that the two women were now married, or that Bella was even pregnant.

Hell, he'd heard both boys comment on Bella's weight without realizing she was pregnant...not that Bella had gotten very big. But it was still noticeable.

"I didn't call them," Irina commented softly.

Charlie had wondered how they had known. The small family had been doing there best to have as little to do with Edward, Jacob and their drama. Still, Irina had volunteered to call and let others know Bella was finally in labor. The blonde vampire had grown surprisingly close to Leah and Bella considering their first meeting. Hell, Irina had managed to win over the Pack itself somehow, which was a real surprise considering their anti-vampire views.

Seth winced. "Jacob probably found out from one of the Pack...And isn't Alice a seer?"

"True," Irina drawled slowly, clearly unhappy.

"What happened?" Edward demanded.

"Where's Bella?" Jacob asked at the same time.

Luckily before Charlie could formulate a response, Leah stepped out from the waiting room doors, holding a pink wrapped bundle.

Charlie wanted nothing more than punch both Edward and Jacob unconscious as he watched the bright smile on his daughter-in-laws face fall into a truly terrifying scowl as she noticed the two troublemakers. Sadly, he knew he'd do more damage to himself than either of them.

Still, Leah was quick to plaster a new, if obviously fake, smile on her face as she approached the group. "I can only be out here a few minutes with her, but I wanted to introduce everyone to Charlene Susan Clearwater-Swan," she said, holding the bundle up to show the sleeping newborn.

"Ohh..." Irina cooed.

"She's beautiful honey," Sue told her daughter.

Seth was just looking speechless at his niece.

"More than beautiful," Charlie added, echoing Sue's statement.

Edward and Jacob were just looking at Leah shocked.

"Wait?/What?" the two said at the same time.

Leah rolled her eyes and let out a breath, tucking her newborn daughter close, as she turned to face the two boys. "Obviously you two are complete idiots," the female shape-shifter firmly. "Neither of you seem to know, or care, about anything outside your futile feud to win Bella's heart. Otherwise you would have noticed that neither of you have had a chance in months. Which means I need to be blunt. Bella is MY Imprint, MY Wife, and has just given birth to My Daughter. So get over yourselves, and quit bugging Bella, and our family, or I'll tear you both to pieces, probably with my brother and sister-in-laws help..."

"Hell yeah," Seth agreed.

Irina was right behind him as she said, "Definitely."

"...Understand?" Leah asked the two boys.

Looking at the stunned look on Edward and Jacob's faces, Charlie was beginning to wonder if there was something other than general stupidity and obliviousness that was wrong with the two boys.

It would explain so much.
