Just before the flock turned into humans, it was normal life for a young boy, who goes by Ash Ketchum. He is a traveling Pokémon Trainer and while here in Alola, he's wearing summer clothes perfect for the region. From his blue and white striped shirt to his brown cargo shorts, and even his blue shoes and red hat, he's ready for any summer adventure. Never far is one of Ash's best Pokémon and his best buddy, Pikachu. A Pikachu has features similar to a mouse. It's quite cute when you look at its small stature, yellow body, lightning bolt-shaped tail, black-tipped ears, and it's noticeable red cheeks. Of course, if someone was to anger a Pikachu, it would result in painful electric shocks. As for Ash and his Pikachu, they came to Alola at first, for a vacation after his previous journey in another region called Kalos. The vacation itself turned into a journey after Ash decided to enroll at the Pokémon School on Melemele Island.

Today though, the lessons bring him to a local Pokémon Center. Ash and Pikachu hurried down the sandy road to enter the front door of the Pokémon Center. "Made it guys!", Ash calls out, even though he's catching his breath soon after. The other classmates are a little uncertain about his condition, with a green-haired girl speaking up first. "You were almost late, Ash," she says in a worried voice, "Are you sure you're all right?" "No need... to worry... Mallow," Ash says whilst catching his breath, "I'm OK and I'm especially ready for this, real-life working experience!" The other classmates are glad to see Ash as well. A boy with yellow clothing with a spherical Pokémon near him, comes up to Ash and Pikachu, skeptical about something. "I was thinking that you were playing hooky, Ash," the boy states with an unsure look on his face. "I would never do that, Sophocles!", Ash states as Pikachu mimics the same expression on his best friend's face. Next to come forward is the oldest of the group, a shirtless dark-skinned boy with red shorts on. "I hope everything is OK with you Ash, I heard you had some trouble going on," he says with a concerned tone. The other girls in the group, a blue-haired and a blonde-haired turn their heads in confusion. "What do you mean by that? Did you encounter something Ash?" the blue head asked the trainer. "Did get into trouble with Team Rocket or Team Skull?" the white-clothed blonde asked with worry in her voice. "It's not like that, Lana and Lillie," Ash assured the two girls. "I had to do some rescuing," Ash explained to the class, his expression suddenly turning into a confused look. "Yet, the people that we rescued, they were not people nor Pokemon...", Ash says to the group.

A flashback happens to show what happened on the day that Ash encountered the flock. It's evening on Melemele Island as Ash is being joined by two adult figures. While the male adult wears his white coat normally, the female adult has her green and black coat wrapped around her waistline. He's also with his Pikachu and a purple Pokémon floating near them. "Poipole, you sure were excited to see Mina's paintings, huh?" Ash asks his purplish and floating friend. The male adult smiles as Poipole twirls in the air, "I'd say Poipole loved the paintings done by her," he says to Ash and the adult woman, "I mean, after all, he is good with painting, am I right, Burnet? "I couldn't agree more, Kukui," she says to him, "Plus, not only can Poipole paint, he can do it to express his feelings." As the group laugh and smile, Pikachu's black-tipped ears suddenly perk up. The gesture gets Ash's attention and he turns to see him with a shocked expression on his face and turns to see what he sees. As he rushes off, the professors call out to Ash to see where he's off to. That's when Ash shouts back, "Someone or something's falling!" Ash then runs off to the source and Pikachu is the quickest along with Poipole. As the starry night sky shows itself to the islands, Pikachu and Poipole reach the birds first. "You found something, you guys?" Ash calls out and has the Pokémon nodding their heads in response. As the Pokémon reach the flock, the birds black out, and they couldn't see the humans along with their Pokémon. "Are these Pokémon, Professors?", Ash asked his Alolan Parents. They just shake in confusion as a response, giving Ash and his Pokémon worried looks. "Let's take them home, Burnet," Kukui says to his wife. Burnet nods in agreement, "Yes, let's set up the downstairs lab as a makeshift shelter." As Ash and his Pokémon friends grin in agreement, they each grab a bird and rush home.

As the family heads back to the house, Burnet patches up each one of them with medicine sprays and bandages. Kukui then places their little sleeping bags out and for each bird, he places them inside. During all of this, Ash and his Pokémon help out their Alolan Family. "It must've been a long night for you," Lana says with a smirk. "Hey, it wasn't easy, but we did it," Ash says with confidence. Poipole spins in the air with a smile, with Pikachu approving. Outside the Pokémon Center, the flock, who are now humans, look at each other in surprise. "It was the boy with the yellow mouse?," Stella says quietly in disbelief, "But... we were... We Were Birds!" At that statement, the Trainers looked around from the inside at the sudden sound. "C'mon, Stella," Poppy says in an angry whisper, "Why did you have to be so loud?" Stella blushes with guilt as the Trainers head outside towards the entrance. "Quickly, let's hide in that shrub!", Willow says with intent. "I can concur!" Dahlia says in agreement as she jumps in. "Let's make a big tree and leaf!" Luca says with a hurried giggle. As they hide, the team looks outside for any sign of who made the noise. "You guys heard that right?" Lillie says as she looks to her left. The others nod in response, as Pikachu's ears perk up as the bush near him rustles. Ash notices the action from his buddy as he turns to face him. Pikachu then points to where the sound was. "There, in that bush!", Lana says pointing at that same shrub. Ash heads there first, but as he looks inside, he finds no one. "No one there, but no Team Skull members either, Kiawe," the boy says with a relieved smile, mainly looking at the oldest boy of the group. "Thought it was Team Skull myself," he says with a relieved smile. "Let's head back inside, we got to help Nurse Joy!," Lillie says reminding everyone about something. Everyone heads back inside with determined looks. Stella first emerges from behind the center, with a worried look. "I guess we better avoid this Team Skull then," she says with the others following behind her. As they approached the entrance, they take a deep breath, before heading inside. The automatic doors open up to show the interior of the building.

Inside the Pokémon Center, the flock look around and is stunned by what they gaze at. On the left, there are small tables and chairs ready for people when they need a break. On the right side, there are food and essentials at an included small market. Even though those places have no people, the Pokémon Center feels fresh and new. At the front desk though, there they were, the Alola Gang. However, the class is now looking at a sickly woman in a nurse's clothing. There is also a duo of worried Pokémon looking on as well. "Nurse Joy, please, you gotta take the day off!" Kiawe says with fear, as the nurse tries to pull herself up. "No...", she says with purpose, "No matter what the cost, I must never..." At that moment, she slumps forward and falls flat. The class gasps in horror as the two Pokemon worry for their partner. Unbeknownst to the class, Stella and her friends also hear this commotion and head out quickly. "Well, based on her condition. Her state of health is not very good," Dahlia nervously says to her friends. "Did you see the way she collapsed on the floor?", Willow says as she nervously drums her fingers on her face. "We gotta help her out...", Poppy says with a determined expression. "As you might say, the show must go on!" Luca says with a cheer as Stella nods in agreement. "Let's see what we can do for her!" Stella says as she leads them to the back of the Pokemon Center.

As Stella leads her crew inside through the back, they enter through a narrow hallway. Stella stops as she gazed at the two Pokemon and the woman, laying on a bed. "Ma'am?," Stella whispers as the two Pokemon look at her with worry. "Not looking so hot, are ya?", Poppy says as the rest of the flock join in. "Who... are... you?", Nurse Joy says weakly, unsure of who these new young kids are. "We saw you collapse earlier, Nurse Joy," Dahila says as she brings out a first aid kit from her bag. "May I please take a look at you for a sec?" The two Pokemon block her path unsure of what to make of this, but Joy quietly backs them off. Dahlia then prepares herself for the examination as Willow looks through a book that was nearby the sink. "How about that?" Willow says to herself as she skims through the book, showing strange creature after strange creature. "Looks like those two creatures watching over Nurse Joy are called... Pokémon," Willow describes as the flock focus from each other to Nurse Joy. As Dahlia determines Nurse Joy's condition, she asks Willow what is a Pokémon. She then proceeds to explain that Pokémon are similar to animals back from their home. However, each Pokemon has its special powers and unique features that make them stand out.

"Who's that Pokemon that looks like one of your created flower bracelets, Willow?," Luca says, pointing out the floating Pokémon over Dahlia's head. The girl proceeds to skim through the book until she finds the image of that same Pokémon. "Looks like that one is a Comfey, the Posy Picker Pokémon," Willow reads as the aforementioned Pokémon floats down to Nurse Joy's level. Once down, it exerts a soothing scent that has everyone breathe a sigh of relief. "Wow, that is a downright delightfully good aroma," Dahlia says as she and the flock take their own deep breaths. Willow further explains that the scent of Comfey's picked flowers can help in medical purposes, just like this one. Luca then points out the bright pink Pokémon and Willow, once again, examines through the book. "That one, Luca, is a Blissey. This one is the Happiness Pokémon," Willow states as Stella comes in for a look at the written entry. "With her, she nurses the sickly with healing powers and can even use her special egg from her pouch to help out." As Willow finishes reading, Dahlia nods at some notes that she's written down on a clipboard. "Well. Looks like I have some good news and some bad news." Dahlia proceeds to show her notes to everyone in the flock. "The good news is that she just has a cold, the bad news is that it's going to take some time for her condition to come back to normal." The girls and Luca look in worry as Nurse Joy quietly writes down something for the group. Nurse Joy has written down that the young Trainers they initially saw are going to watch over the Center for the day. In the meantime, they could help her with getting medicine for the cold. They immediately look at the list provided on the note. "Looks like we are gonna help someone!", Luca quietly says with a smile. The others nod in agreement, but Stella has a solemn look. "You guys...", Stella says sadly, looking on at the others, "Can you please can go on ahead without me?" The other members look in worry but give a little smile to respect her decision as they head out. "I guess Golden Island collapsing put a damper on her bad... very bad," Poppy admits as the group exits the back of the Pokémon Center. Luca looks back as the rest of the group heads off for the medicine. Stella just stands by the door as the group gets farther away. She then follows the path outside, but away from Nurse Joy and the front door as she leaves a note behind.

Now at the marketplace, the group marvels at the bustling activity throughout the city. While some are customers asking for groceries, some are taking in the sights of the sandy beaches with crystal clear blue water. "This is what it's like to see a marketplace and be in a city," Poppy says with a pep in her step. Willow adjusts her cap as she looks at the shopping list provided to them by Nurse Joy. "It says that we need some Pecha Berries and some medicine at the pharmacy, chances are we'll find them all here." At the nearby fruit stand, an elderly woman waves them over causing the group to head over. "Alola, girls!", she calls out, they do respond, but with anxiety. "Oh, pardon us, ma'am, we're kinda new to this area," Dahila says nervously, "We just came here to get some needed supplies for a sick lady." The lady nods and proceeds to give them a basket filled with fruit and medicine packets and bottles. "In time, you'll get used to being here in Alola, and that's coming from me personally, Anela." The girls and Luca give their thanks as they head back to the Pokémon Center.

Meanwhile, as she heads down the path, Stella explores the nearby forest. "So this is what it looks like to see a forest on another island..." As she goes deeper, she spies a group of bee-like Pokémon at a nearby tree. "Well, it's a good thing Nurse Joy did let me have this spare encyclopedia of Pokémon...", she says skimming through the many pages until she finds the Pokémon. As Stella gets closer, some of the bees look at her with happy expressions as she reads about them. "Hmm... Ribombee, The Bee Fly Pokémon, A Bug, and Fairy-Type...", she thinks as one of the Pokémon drops a small yellow ball onto the page. "It says that they make these Pollen Puffs for whatever purpose..." She then decides to take a bite and smiles as the Pollen Puff's sweet taste touches her tongue. "This is delicious! Thank you!", Stella exclaims happily as the bees smile back. Stella then explores more of the forest as the bees wave her goodbye. As she goes through the branches and shrubs, after about an hour, she spots an expansive area that causes her eyes to widen with awe. "Oh wow... this is amazing...," she says under her breath as she views a campus-like area, but with no one around, just herself. "What am I looking at? This is just amazing!", Stella shouts as she smiles from ear to ear. She then jumps over the wooden fence as she runs around the area, exploring with curiosity and excitement. "This is amazing! I wonder what kind of Pokémon I can find here!" After following a small river, Stella then finds herself at the base of a blue spiraling building. As she comes closer, she views a sign near the door that reads: "Alola and welcome to the Pokémon School!" The leader of the flock looks up and views the outer layer of the school, eyeing a small balcony. "I wonder if I'm still athletic, even as a human?", she asks herself as she searches her bag for something, "It's still here! My special red headband!" Stella then straps it on as the wind from the sea blows her hair and the headband in the air. "Here we go...", she whispers as someone unknown is coming from behind.
