Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Dragnarok and Blaze realized that their daughter Dracia was incredibly nervous about taking over the Neutral Interdimensional Legionnaires at the end of the week. But thankfully, Dragnarok gets an idea about how to resolve this: let her read Blaze's journal she kept during the Injustice Wars, hoping she can find something relatable in the story of her mother being in over her head. Today, we delve into the journal directly and really begin our story of how this war began. So how did it all start? Read on to discover...
(Our story continues exactly where we left off, with the introduction to Blaze's journal, taking us back in time several years to when Blaze was much younger, where we pick up, her writing the first entry into this journal, dressed in black as if she just came back from a funeral.)
"My name is Blaze, and I'm in way over my head. So Mom suggested I keep a journal to document my raging emotions coming off probably my most tragic loss and gain. Let me explain. It all started when I suffered the greatest tragedy that has befallen me at this point. It all started after we were drafted into another world's war. A war which we helped to end..."
(As Blaze continues to write, we flash back even further in time, probably no more than 5 years or so prior actually, to a city on the edge of destruction. But not just any city, this is Metropolis, perhaps not the one we know, but it is. As the scene goes on, we see there is a battle raging in the center, between Atlantean soldiers, Amazons, and of all things Dragons. This is the final battle of Injustice Gods Among Us, only this time there's no Superman from another world to save the day. This time, we see Spyro and Cynder were called in instead. But while they're up in the skyline battling Doomsday, we focus in on Blaze and Dragnarok, fighting off Atlanteans)
Blaze: (Kicking an Atlantean soldier in the head) I can see why these guys are feared and respected!
Dragnarok: Thankfully for us, the Amazons have more of that. And are on our side.
(As the two continue to fight, we see Spyro and Cynder fly through the battle, luring Doomsday out of town, but unavoidably damaging some of the buildings in the process. Just as they do, Dragnarok tail swipes two Atlantean soldiers, clearing the scene)
Dragnarok: That should be the last of them.
Blaze: Good. Now we just have to make sure the civilians get to safety.
Dragnarok: I had eyes on everyone leaving the buildings they were assigned to, except Ness and Nyre.
Blaze: I lost sight of them after the Atlanteans started attacking us.
Dragnarok: Keep an eye out for reinforcements, I'll go look for them.
(Just as Dragnarok is about to head into the building Doomsday landed closest to, a familiar orange clad king appears, attempting to block them)
Aquaman: You'll get no further, Insurgency scum!
Blaze: (Seeing Dragnarok is about to get back in the fight) Go. I'll handle the fish man.
(Knowing Blaze has this well handled, Dragnarok heads into the building he last saw Ness and Nyre enter while Blaze starts fighting Aquaman, trident against tooth and claw. But we only focus on the fight for a few seconds as instead we focus on Dragnarok, traversing through a building that is slowly starting to fall apart around him due to damage from the Atlantean attack. Dragnarok ascends the stairs through the building, rubble falling off the place as he goes, and after a few minutes of climbing, he arrives at the top of the stairs, seeing his sisters, Ness and Nyre trying to pry a piece of rubble off of someone just as the building starts to buckle)
Dragnarok: Ness! Nyre! What the heck are you doing here! You've got to get out of here!
Ness: We've been trying to, bro! This guy got pinned when the building collapsed!
Nyre: We're not leaving them here!
Dragnarok: I'm not saying you have to! Hold on a second!
(With that, Dragnarok enters the scene, and with some aid from his sisters manage to pry the rubble off the civilian, whom Ness and Nyre drag out while Dragnarok holds up the rubble. With the civilian on their shoulders Ness and Nyre head out of the scene with Dragnarok behind them, looking for any other trapped civilians, while we transition back to Blaze and Aquaman. And their battle is fierce. Every time Aquaman thinks he has her countered, Blaze flips back into combat and pins his trident to his chest. Until one fateful strike. Aquaman pushes Blaze off of him and then uses his trident to summon a powerful wave. Blaze, being agile leaps out of the way, just barely, but can't tackle Aquaman to the ground fast enough before it strikes the very building that Dragnarok is in. We cut inside for one second, just as he sees the wave hitting the building before cutting back out to see it collapse and the look of horror on Blaze's face as the building is reduced to a heap of rubble)
Blaze: (Running towards the structure) DRAGO!
(As Blaze rushes towards the rubble, Aquaman darts away, back into the ocean as Blaze starts digging through the rubble, hoping beyond hope that Dragnarok is still alive. But when she does find him, it's too late, the rubble has just about bashed his skull in. He was dead before she even got there. As Blaze realizes Dragnarok is gone, we see Ness, Nyre, and the rest of the Element Guard start to appear, followed shortly by Spyro and Cynder themselves, fresh from defeating High Councilor Superman no doubt. Despite trying to hold up a façade of bravery for her allies, Blaze just breaks down in tears. The one dragon she's ever loved is dead at her feet as we transition back to the present, Blaze still writing in her journal)
"That was the first time I'd ever cried in front of the Guard. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a dry eye in the place. The leader of the Insurgency offered us minimal condolences. A fact that gave me motive to knock that stupid cowl right off his head. That was nearly a year ago. And now, after that much time deliberating, the Element Guard has chosen me to take over for Drago. I tried to tell them there's no way I could possibly do that. Drago was... is... irreplaceable!"
Blaze: (Sighs, then with tears in her eyes) Of course, the one time I need Drago's shoulder to cry on is the one time he's not able to be there.
(Her lamentation known, Blaze just breaks down into tears, as a strange yet familiar blue glow begins to encompass her, but ultimately fades away just as the door opens, revealing Blaze's parents, Ember and Flame)
Ember: Blaze, sweetie?
Blaze: (Looking up with tear stained scales) Yes?
Flame: It's time. The others are waiting for you.
Blaze: (Sniffles and dries her eyes) Well, time to face my future, I guess.
(With hesitation in her step, Blaze leaves with her parents for parts unknown as our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to end for today. Yes I know this was a very strangely structured chapter, but I really had no other way to portray that this is kind of a journal and kind of the events. And yes, in this timeline I picture Spyro and company being involved in the original Injustice game. I've always pictured Dragnarok dying during the events of the original game's ending. And besides, Yami labelled this event the Injustice Wars, so I guess now there were two: one for the events of each game. I really hope this works, Yami. This story will be primarily set during the events of Injustice 2, altered slightly. But there will be further flashbacks to the events of the first game. So I used today's chapter to set up a major event, Dragnarok's death. Long-time Nullverse followers will know exactly why this is important. But for those who don't know, you'll see. So, what is Blaze marching into? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
