I smile looking around and watching my classmates who passed extremely proud of them and glad that I kept mine though from what I understood there were a few steps that would have had to happen for me to actually lose mine since it was a few steps from a provisional licenses in technical terms.
Mineta calls seeing his name, "I'm up there! Just call me hero!"
Jiro sighs and says, "I did it."
Tenya with a big smile says, "There I am."
Shoji says quietly, "All right."
Ochaco with a smile as big as Tenya's says, "I'm on the board!"
Sero says, "Thank goodness."
Tokoyami nods.
Ojiro sighs and says, "What a relief."
Aoyama says, "Magnefique!"
Sato says, "Heck yeah, I did it!"
Mina screams, "Yeah."
Koda stares with a smile at the screen.
Momo with a smile beside me says, "Another small step toward being a pro."
Tsu mutters with a smile, "Ribbit."
Hagakure says, "I passed! I passed!"
Kaminari says loudly, "Killed it!"
Eijiro with a smile says, "Right on!" His smile falls as he looks at Bakugo and says, "But, uh..."
Bakugo growls making an angry face and says quietly, "No!"
I turn looking at Yoarashi as he searches the list for his name saying, "Yo-Yoarashi? Yo-! It's not there." Yoarashi pulls his hat over his eyes and says, "I failed. It's over."
I watch as Shoto looks at the screen not seeing his name and my face falls as I really wanted Shoto to pass with the rest of the class. I grab Shoto's hand and squeeze a little trying to comfort him the little I can.
Izuku turns to Shoto gasping and mutters, "He failed?"
Yoarashi all the sudden calls, "Todoroki!"
I tense as Yoarashi stands in front of Shoto. At first they just stare at each other.
Finally Yoarashi bows crashing his head into the ground saying, "I'm sorry! It's my fault that you didn't pass the licensing exam. My focus was too narrow minded. Forgive me!"
I watch closely as Shoto just watched Yoarashi before looking down with a sad look and mutters, "I've tried to ignore that I'm my father's son. But it's something I must come to terms with if I aim to be a hero." Shoto looks at Yoarashi and reaches a hand out slightly saying audibly, "You're fine. I was the one who got us off to a bad start."
Yoarashi not getting up from his bow says, "But, still-!"
Shoto continues, "And thanks to the things you said to me, I have a lot to think about."
A lot of our class was watching the exchange.
Mina says, "Holy crap. Did he really fail?"
Sero says, "How did our two top classmates not pass the exam? Cara's the only one who compares to them but she already had a license from what she and Mr. Aizawa said."
Kaminari says winking at Bakugo, "Shoulda been more careful what you said. Words are important, you know."
Bakugo growls at Kaminari.
Kaminari just says terrified, "Uh-"
Bakugo says, "Shut your mouth before I murder you."
Mineta says, "Those entitled people at the top think so highly of themselves, don't they? Their own egos are their worst enemies."
I turn to glare at Mineta as he puts a hand on Shoto's shoulder.
Mineta says going up to Shoto's eye level from behind, "Looks like our class heirarchy is collapsing!"
All the sudden Mineta is in between Tenya's hands and held in the air before being put down. I say watching Tenya, "Thank you, Tenya."
Izuku says looking at Shoto, "I can't believe this."
Momo says now beside Izuku, "Poor Todoroki."
Shoto still looks at Yoarashi who is still bowing.
Mera on the speaker says, "So, next we'll give you the printouts of your results. They include a breakdown of your scores, so you'll know exactly what areas you need to improve going forward."
A guy hands a paper to Eijiro saying, "Kirishima."
Eijiro says taking the paper, "Thank you, sir." Eijiro starts looking at it.
Bakugo turns around and says, "Hand it over, I wanna see."
Eijiro says, "Uh, maybe you should focus on you?"
Hagakure nudges Kaminari and says, "Well? Come on! How'd you do?"
Kaminari says, "Gimme a chance to look and I'll tell you."
Mera says, "We lopped off points when you did something wrong. Fall below 50, and you were done. These demerits are itemized on your result forms, as you'll see, so I'd look at them."
Ojiro says looking at his paper, "Sixty-one points? I barely made it."
Sero says looking at his, "Whoa, I got 84! Look at that, guys! It turns out I'm actually kind of great at this stuff." Sero had turned his paper towards Jiro and Momo.
Jiro looking at Momo's says, "Wait, Yao-momo, you got 94 points?"
Izuku goes to Tenya and asks, "What about you, Iida? How'd it go?"
Tenya says smiling, "I ended with 80. Overall, it seems my weak points were in practical application. What about you?"
Izuku leans so Tenya can see saying, "I got 71 points. It looks like they mostly docked me for some of the stupid things I said at the beginning, and for times when I was just kinda standing around."
Tenya says while moving his hand, "I'm thankful we've been given such empirical evidence about what we should improve upon!"
Izuku nods watching him.
Izuku looks at his paper and mutters, "But, I wonder...Since this was a demerit system that didn't give anyone the chance to add points, there was no hope of passing after someone fell below 50. So why let those people continue to fight until the end? Why not take them off the battlefield when they failed?"
Shoto and Yoarashi are standing side by side looking at their papers.
One of the guys handing out papers says coming to me, "Cara Aizawa?"
I turn to him and say smiling slightly, "Yes, sir. That's me."
He hands me the paper and says, "The commissioner told me to tell you that you were graded a bit harshr than your peers and students from other schools due to your hero work. The commissioner himself actually graded you."
I bow slightly and say, "Thank you. Please tell the commissioner that I am thankful for his words and for grading me himself as I know that is rare."
The guy bows his head and says, "Will do. And thank you for your hard work as a hero, Ms. Cara Aizawa." The guy leaves.
I don't bother to look at mine now as Mera starts on the speaker, "Anyway, moving forward, those of you who passed can exercise the same authority as pro heroes, but only during emergency situations. In other words, fighting villains, saving the victims of criminal acts or accidents. You may act using your best judgment, with no direct orders. Keep in mind that your every action from now on carries with it a deep responsibility toward bettering our society, and that the world is watching you. I'm sure you're aware that All Might, our greatest hero, no longer has his incredible power. One of the reasons crime in this country has been so low is due to his presence. With that deterrent gone, criminals are sure to become bolder and more widespread. Expect the balance we currently have in our world to be destroyed, and for things to change quickly. You young people will be the hope for our future. It's imperative that you become exemplary heroes. That your reputations grow to suppress crime as did his. Remember, the license you earned today is provisional, and you still have much to do. I would like for you to think of yourselves as fledglings, and be even more diligent in your studies. And as for those who fell short and did not pass. We don't have time for you to feel bitter about your loss. Instead, we offer you a chance to redeem yourselves. After you attend a three-month-long special course and pass an individual test, we plan to issue a provisional license to those of you who failed as well."
The examinees who failed gasp and cheer hearing that.
Mera continues, "In order for us to reach the idyllic future that I just spoke of, we're going to need as many good heroes on the streets as we can get. The first round was one to weed people out. But we would like to grow the 100 selected in that test as much as possible. That's why we watched you all until the end. So we could see for ourselves that you each have promise. That once your shortcomings are corrected, you have the potential to be as great as your fellow classmates. This special course will keep you busy, as it will run concurrently with your normal studies. You're welcome to retake the exam in April if you prefer to wait."
Bakugo says, "Oh, like hell!"
Yoarashi says, "Special course!"
Izuku looking at Shoto excitedly asks, "Isn't this great, Todoroki?"
Shoto looks at Izuku and glances at me as I squeeze his hand.
Mineta pops up and says, "You don't have to! Just...take it easy! Relax! The heirarchy is collapsing-"
I growl at Mineta and I'm thankful when Tenya again claps his hands on Mineta's face shutting him up.
Tenya picks him up like that keeping him quiet as Tenya says, "We'll root for you."
Izuku nods.
I smile at Shoto as he smiles back at me and kisses my cheek softly. Shoto turns to the others saying, "Thank you. I'll work hard."
And so, with that, the provisional licensing exam was finally complete. And my classmates and I were all one step closer to becoming pro heroes!
I easily tuck my new card away and watch the others.
Izuku looking at his gasps and starts crying.
Ochaco watching him asks, "Deku, are you crying?"
Izuku gets shocked and then blushes before saying, "Yeah, well, you know. This is a lot. So many people have helped me get to this point, and some of them went through a lot of trouble to do so. Meaning...How do I put this? It's like this is proof I've matured and gotten stronger. And it makes me so happy." Izuku starts snapping pictures of his card feverently and continues, "I need to show this to my mom and All Might as soon as possible."
Ochaco just smiles watching him and says, "Yeah. I get it."
I stand next to Dad as Ms. Joke starts walking up.
Dad says, "On the way back I want us to look at your scores."
I say, "Yes, Dad."
Dad asks, "What score did you get anyways?"
I shrug and say, "I haven't looked. I figured it would be better to look together."
Dad just looks at me silently but he doesn't say anything as Ms. Joke says, "Eraser! Cara!"
Dad says looking at her, "Hm?"
Ms. Joke says, "Since we've reconnected, how 'bout we get together for joint training sometime?"
Dad says, "Yeah. That could be smart."
Yoarashi runs up to my classmates saying, "Hey! Hey!"
Tsu says, "It's that Shiketsu guy."
Yoarashi runs up to Shoto so I quickly run and stand beside him taking Shoto's hand. Yoarashi says while running to and fro, "Todoroki! I'll see you at the special course, but here's the thing. Honestly, nothing's changed. I still don't like you. Sorry! That's all for now!"
Eijiro says, "That was nice of him, I guess."
Shoto says watching him, "We'll just make the best of it."
Aoyama says, "Interesting. He is someone who is both bold and sensitive. I admire just joie de vivre."
Izuku gasps and runs forward saying, "Excuse me! Hello?"
Mora turns around with a "Huh?"
Izuku with his notebook out says, "I wanna know more about the training you do to erase your presence."
Mora turns to him completely and says, "We haven't learned anything like that."
Izuku gasps and says, "But, that girl...The one in the bodysuit did it. I wanted to talk to her about it so that I can understand how it worked. Do you have any idea where she might be?"
Mora says, "Bodysuit...Oh! You mean Camie. She said she wasn't feeling too well and took a cab to the station so she could go home."
Izuku says, "Oh, I see. Too bad I didn't get the chance to ask."
Mora says, "Actually, she's been acting kind of strangely for the past few days. A little different from her usual self, I'd say."
Where Camie is walking down a street a phone starts ringing. Mud-like drops start dropping off of her as she answers the phone with Mr. Compress's voice coming over, "It's about time you picked up. Where are you right now? Toga?"
The last of the mud drops as Toga says, "I had the most wonderful fun today."
Mr. Compress says, "Don't get so lost in your role that you slip up. There's too much at stake to get caught."
Toga says still walking, "Oh, don't worry. I've never been caught in my life. Not even close. And my mission was a success. Tomura's gonna be so happy. I managed to get some of Izuku's yummy blood!"
Himiko Toga. Her Quirk, Transform. By ingesting someone's blood, she can transform into that person.
A few hours earlier, All For One in a prison called Tartarus says, "The second semester must be starting soon. Or has it already begun? I assumed that you would devote yourself to teaching now. And yet you've come to visit me."
A deflated All Might is in front of All For One behind a glass panel. All Might says, "I'm here so we can get a few things straight. All For One."
