Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Flash finally filled Blaze and company in on what's going on here, revealing the Regime is attempting to make a comeback and the Insurgency doesn't seem to be doing much under Batman's direction while a Society of supervillains is rising up. So far, so Injustice 2. Now I know the last few chapters have been slow going, but now's where things start picking up. How so? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes in Blaze's chambers, where she just finished writing the entry that ended the last chapter. Here she sits thinking about everything that just happened, as if to prepare for the battles to come. But just as she starts contemplating, we hear a knock at the door, disturbing her concentration. As she opens, the door, we see it's Flash)
Blaze: What's up Barry?
Flash: Good news, Selina's got a lead on the Society.
Blaze: That was... fast.
Flash: She's been working this for months before we called you in.
Blaze: Then let's see what she's got.
(With that, we transition back to the main room of this place, where everyone is gathered to see what data Catwoman has pulled up.)
Spyro: So what've we got?
Catwoman: Looks like my infiltration of the Society paid off. They're about ready to reveal themselves to the world.
Cynder: So their mysterious benefactor is finally ready to show their face?
Catwoman: Unsure on that front, but at the very least we can now put a stop to them before they rise up and cause any major damage.
Blaze: Wait, if Selina's been undercover for months, why are we just now deciding to strike?
Catwoman: Let's just say Bruce wanted to know exactly what we're dealing with. Down to the benefactor. But let's just say we don't have time to wait long enough to find that information.
Blaze: (Sighs) Alright then. Where're they meeting?
Catwoman: (Slides a file across the table) Gorilla City.
Blaze: Gorilla City? That can only mean...
Catwoman: That's right. This is Grodd's doing.
Spyro: (Turning to Blaze) I hate to put you under pressure so early on, but...
Blaze: Let me guess. You want me to send an Element Guard battalion to take them down. Or at least to start the process.
Cynder: If you're up to it.
Blaze: I'm more than up to it. Especially now knowing Grodd's involved. (Rubs her shoulder) Let's just say I owe him a few bruises. (Turning to the rest of their faction) Shade, Blitz, you're with me. Selina, I assume you'll be present at Grodd's little reveal party.
Catwoman: So will everybody else.
Blaze: Then we're going to crash it.
(With that, we transition to Gorilla City, where Grodd has just walked onto a stage, about to deliver a speech to an army of gorilla troops. But as the mad ape starts his speech, we focus in on one of the nearby trees, where we see Blaze, Blitz, Shade, and Flash sneaking around, just as the rest of the Society steps onto the stage, with Blaze looking on.)
Shade: So what're we dealing with here, chief?
Blaze: Looks like quite the who's who of villainy left after the Regime. Reverse Flash, Deadshot, Cheetah, Captain Cold, Bane, Poison Ivy...
Blitz: Wait. Ivy? I thought she was with the Insurgency.
Blaze: Apparently not anymore. (Looks back to the crowd) Looks like we're also dealing with Scarecrow. Wait, isn't he dead? As in first to die, even before Joker?
Shade: Apparently the rumors of his death were greatly exaggerated. Somehow.
Blitz: (Seeing what Blaze is seeing) Looks like they're breaking off. Better follow them
Blaze: (Seeing Grodd's presentation is over) Alright then. Barry, stick to your doppelganger. The rest of us will follow Grodd.
Flash: Roger that.
(With that, we focus on Blaze's team as they sneak around behind Grodd's little stage where the evil gorilla is discussing matters with Bane and Catwoman, the three dragons somehow managing to remain hidden despite sticking out like sore thumbs)
Shade: So are we waiting for a signal or something?
Blaze: Yeah. Mine. Wait until their backs are turned.
(With the three dragons watching the background, we focus in on the supervillains' conversation.)
Catwoman: Then perhaps its finally time you reveal who this secret benefactor of yours is. Given how much we're relying on them.
Gorilla Grodd: For now, he has requested to remain anonymous.
(We don't hear Catwoman's reply, as she moves into a position where she can see Blaze and her friends)
Blaze: That's as good a signal as anything I could come up with. Let's go.
(And with that, Blaze, Shade, and Blitz leap into battle, managing to jump Grodd and Bane while Catwoman rolls out of the way, pretending to have gotten hit. While Blitz and Shade tend to Bane, we focus in on Blaze and Grodd)
Gorilla Grodd: What is this?!
Blaze: (Smacking Grodd across the stage with her tail) Consider this a little payback for breaking my arm in Stryker's Island.
Gorilla Grodd: (Finally recognizing Blaze) Ah, the young dragoness from the Insurgency.
Blaze: Let's just say I'm no friend of the Bat. Not anymore.
Gorilla Grodd: Regardless, you will regret crossing me.
(With that, the two begin their duel. Grodd may have the strength advantage, but Blaze is more agile, faster, and more importantly, angrier. And within seconds, she has Grodd on the ropes. But it seems Grodd was holding back, as just as Blaze is about to deliver what could have been a killing blow, he uses his mind powers to stop her in midair and throw her into a tree, where we see Blitz and Shade have been taken out by Bane and Catwoman, playing along to preserve her act.)
Gorilla Grodd: You have some gall attacking me like that. (Cracks his knuckles) But ultimately it will have been for not.
(Just as things look dead for Blaze, an arrow flies out of nowhere and hits Grodd in the arm, stopping his concentration long enough for Blaze to see two figures standing in one of the trees)
Green Arrow: Sorry to interrupt, but looks like this is where the brave and the bold come in.
(With that, Green Arrow and Black Canary join the fight, and immediately they start by rescuing Blaze and company, just for the shock to set in on Blaze)
Blaze: Wait a second. Green Arrow? Black Canary? I thought you two were dead!
Black Canary: It's a long story easily summed by Doctor Fate.
Green Arrow: Doctor Fate and another Earth.
Blaze: So you're another world's Green Arrow.
Green Arrow: We'll have to have this chinwag another time.
Blaze: Agreed.
(With that, the three dragons rejoin the fight. Blaze and Green Arrow focusing on Grodd while Black Canary teams with Blitz and Shade to take down Bane and Catwoman. And just like that, the battle is won with Green Arrow slapping giant meta-cuffs on Grodd as the group reconvenes)
Catwoman: Now that that's dealt with...
(But before she can even finish her sentence, Black Canary socks her in the face)
Black Canary: Even now you're still a traitor, Selena? And here I thought you could be trusted.
(At this point, Black Canary is about to throw down with Selena, but Blaze stops her)
Black Canary: What are you doing?
Blaze: She's undercover for Batman.
Black Canary: You honestly expect me to believe Bruce would still trust her after she joined the Regime?
Blaze: As crazy as it sounds it's true.
Gorilla Grodd: (Having overheard all of this) You betrayed us?!
Catwoman: Thanks for blowing my cover.
Green Arrow: It looks like it doesn't matter. We got Grodd and Bane. Though we're going to have to let Bruce know that there's dragons here now.
Blaze: Probably best if we don't. Let's juts say Bruce and I don't get along. Especially not recently.
(Just as the group is starting to get to know each other, Grodd starts to chuckle)
Green Arrow: Uh oh. Never good when the bad guy starts chuckling after you've put the cuffs on.
Blaze: What's so damn funny?
Gorilla Grodd: You have no idea what you're up against (To Catwoman) You wanted to meet our benefactor? Now's your chance.
(And just as Grodd says that, a giant skull looking space ship appears in the sky)
Blaze: (Seeing this) What the heck is that?!
(But before Blaze can get an answer, a blue beam shoots down from the ship and engulfs Blaze, Shade, Blitz, Catwoman, Green Arrow, and Black Canary, seemingly digitizing them as Grodd keeps laughing, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good spot to wrap up. Finally a bit of action! And it looks like we're about to meet the benefactor behind Grodd's little secret Society of supervillains. Also, I hope it doesn't bother anyone that my stage directions call him "Grodd" while dialogue is listed under "Gorilla Grodd". If it does, sorry. Anyways, I'm sure you've already guessed who the Society's benefactor is. But if you do, don't spoil it for those who don't. And for those who don't, tune in next time for the answers! Same time... same channel!
