Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, Brainiac made his first move just as he did in the game, attacking Brother Eye. Only in this reality, Darkblood hijacks the process, turning Brother Eye into a dangerous AI directly under his control. But this chapter won't really continue there. You'll see what's up in a minute. Read on to discover what's up...

(Our story resumes not where we left it, but instead back in the present day, where we see Dracia reading Blaze's old journal, having just started into Doctor Fate's warning, burning a conspicuous candle, which has caught the attention of a familiar golden dragon, who enters the room to observe the situation)

Goldix: Dracia? What are you doing up so late? You're usually in bed by 9, or whatever time your training regimen requires this week.

Dracia: (Shutting the journal in surprise) Oh, wasn't expecting you bro.

Goldix: Just wondering what you're doing up so uncharacteristically late.

Dracia: Just doing a little reading.

Goldix: (Putting it together) Wait a second, is that mom's war journal?

Dracia: Yeah. Mom and Dad thought maybe reading it would help me overcome my nerves regarding taking over the NIL in... what is it, six days now?

Goldix: Yeah it's six days. And if the war stories Mom has told are true, they've got the right idea. Those 10 years were pretty rough. Where're you at?

Dracia: Doctor Fate just warned them to repair their relationship with the Insurgency.

Goldix: So you're not even past year one then.

Dracia: I'll be honest, it's kind of... slower than I expected.

Goldix: The first year generally is. Believe me, things get crazy a few years from there. Just wait until... I'd better not spoil it, actually.

Dracia: Thanks, bro. I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. (Thinks about it) You've been told the war stories before?

Goldix: Since before you were even born.

Dracia: You know... that reminds me. I've always wondered, how'd you end up knowing Dad anyhow?

Goldix: Well, it's kind of a long story. But it starts with my gift of Sight-Jacking.

Dracia: Your Sight-Jacking?

Goldix: When I was young, it was out of control. My biological parents had abandoned me over it. I was just crying on a street corner in Warfang when Dad happened to pass by.

Dracia: Whoa.

Goldix: I told Dad my struggle with my power. I thought he'd just recommend me to the Guard as Element tutors. But I think he knew something was beyond them. I think he had the same mind reading powers I did. Or could at least sense them. He took me under his wing. You know all that meditation I was doing while you were younger?

Dracia: Vaguely.

Goldix: Dad taught me that. It helped get all the sensory overload under control, and with it my life. Eventually I got through school, got a pad in the city, and came back to study as Dad's apprentice full time, essentially joining the Element Guard.

Dracia: Whoa. I... I never knew you two were that close. I mean I knew you were thick as thieves, but I never would've guessed that much.

Goldix: Yeah. Dad really helped me get my life under control. I owe him everything, really. So imagine my surprise when he adopts me after all that time. It was beyond my wildest imagination honestly.

Dracia: Whoa. How'd this never come up before now?

Goldix: To be honest, I never liked talking about it. Grandma's helped me get more comfortable discussing my childhood, realizing to a degree that I'd never processed it at that point.

Dracia: Is that why you were so hard on us in training?

Goldix: I guess so. I also wanted you guys to be more prepared for war than we honestly were.

Dracia: I thought you didn't fight in the wars?

Goldix: I didn't. But I've seen my fair share of conflicts since that ended. Dad really wanted to make sure you were all prepared for a bigger war. And now you're about to take on preparing for a big one.

Dracia: Don't remind me. (Sighs) I really wish I had Green Arrow's humor to help me through this.

Goldix: Hey don't be so nervous. You'll be great! You've been training your whole life for this! And besides, if things do get rough, I can reveal that you will have Ollie for support.

Dracia: Seriously?

Goldix: Yeah, Ollie's son Connor took over as Green Arrow in the Injustice world, and Black Canary's mentoring him. He couldn't give up the itch though, so he joined the NIL to get into a bigger game.

Dracia: Huh. Should be interesting to meet him.

Goldix: Believe me, he's a great guy. You'll love him.

Dracia: I'll take your word for now.

Goldix: Please do. Now get some sleep. You've got six more days in which you can read that journal. The story will wait for you.

(Seeing the wisdom in her older brother's words, Dracia puts a makeshift bookmark in the journal, and heads to bed, ending our story for today)

And that seems like a good place to wrap for now. Yes this chapter was a little weird, but I do plan to do a few more of these as time goes on in order to clarify some other things that never really got answered in the rest of the Nullverse. Goldix's origin story was one of them because Yami introduced the character while Dragon's Torment was in the works. Not complaining though, he's a fun character to write. I just wanted to clarify his origin a bit. But as usual, I give Yami full rights to change anything I've written today. So I hope this kind of vague story works out! Next time, we resume our usual forte. So what's going to happen in the flashback? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
