Hello, everyone! Welcome to the after-series goodness left over from WTEWYE. I hope you all enjoy this chapter!

~Baby's First Christmas~

Christmas was here, and thankfully Botan and Little Yoshi were released shortly after the child's birth the week prior. After the birth, Botan's energy returned to her, and she was able to use her white magic to heal herself. Her recovery brought an energy to the woman that Hiei hadn't witnessed from her since prior to the pregnancy. Even her overly emotional displays lessened, and Hiei never caught a hint of damper on her spirits.

The ferry girl was a natural mother. All of her fears of inadequacies seemed to disappear the instant Yoshio came into the world. She was so excited once she and Hiei brought Yoshio home. Then, shortly after, she recruited their friends to help get the place decorated for the human holiday, Christmas. Hiei knew of the celebration. After all the years he spent with the motley crew, he picked up on some traditions. He never saw the importance of them. He wasn't big on huge parties or overly colorful or bright displays. Still, the decorations brought a homey feeling to the apartment that did not exist to the couple when Botan was pregnant. Yoshio really seemed to love the lights and green branches. For that reason, Hiei did not protest any of it.

Botan had Yoshio dressed up in a little Santa suit, and the baby was asleep peacefully by the window. Outside, snow fell. Normally, Hiei hated those little white flakes, but watching the snow seemed to bring Yoshi a peace in contrast to the anger Hiei felt. Hiei always found himself feeling bitter about his home world, and those feelings still lingered in his heart. Abruptly, they dispersed as his son awoke and made a sound to alert one of his parents. The boy snapped Hiei out of his dark thoughts, and he replaced the cold hatred with warm love.

Hiei stepped towards the crib and looked down at the little child. The fire demon could see recognition in the Yoshio's lavender eyes. The baby smiled and closed his eyes again under his father's watchful gaze. It amazed Hiei how his son felt so safe in his presence. Yoshio knew Hiei, and the demon realized that his son truly did establish a connection with him while the babe was in utero. Hiei was strangely proud of his son for these first accomplishments.

A flash of light alerted Hiei, and he turned to glare at a timid but gratified Botan. Her features were soft and welcoming in the glow of the Christmas lights. She seemed calm and content, as if the last eight months of pain and anxiety never happened.

"I know you don't like pictures," the woman murmured, "but it was just so perfect. My two boys. Yoshi just loves you so much." Hiei remained quiet, and her brow quirked. "What's wrong?" She then looked around at the decorations. "Is it too much?"

Hiei walked over to Botan and took her hand. "It's perfect," he remarked before he leaned in. Botan's eyes grew lidded, and her lips parted in anticipation. Her lover kissed her tenderly, hand on her back to support her as he consumed her. Botan smiled into the kiss and threaded her fingers through Hiei's hair. After a moment, they parted but pressed their foreheads together. The ferry girl was careful to avoid harming the Jagan.

"Merry Christmas, Hiei," she whispered against his lips as their breaths mingled.

"Hn," Hiei replied. He wrapped his arms around her.

The two made their way over to the couch, and Hiei pulled the woman close as they cuddled. They looked in the direction of the bassinet and gazed upon their beautiful boy wrapped in red. Hiei's eyes shifted to the window once more, and he mused that maybe the snow and winter weren't so bad, not when they brought him his son. If he focused on that, his past didn't seem as important. Not as much as his boy and his woman.

Hiei could live with all the frivolity in all three worlds for them.
