This is Part II of the Thanksgiving Special. Last time, after Darkblood revealed himself, Blaze started making plans to send Black Manta undercover into the Empire. But before they could, Brainiac started his invasion, selecting cities for collection, and the Legion mobilized for battle, presumably followed by the Insurgency. So, now that the war is on, how is the first battle going to go? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes in Metropolis, where Blaze, Flash, and Supergirl are taking on armies of Brainiac's freaky skeletal robots. And at first glimpse, they seem to be doing well, Supergirl lasers their heads off with heat vision, Flash dashes across the field using his enemy's momentum to destroy them, and Blaze, well she's just going savage on these things, ripping them apart with her bear claws, sending sparks flying everywhere, only to swiftly be joined by Spyro and Cynder as air support.)
Blaze: Anybody got a count on these things?
Flash: I'd say we're still outnumbered by a factor of 100 to 1.
Supergirl: (Punching a Brainiac drone apart, literally) I like those odds.
Blaze: Glad somebody's confident, because it certainly isn't me.
(As the fight continues, we focus on a rooftop nearby, where we see a sniper's nest is set up, and behind it a familiar masked assassin: Deadshot. His target in sight, Deadshot loads a bullet into the chamber of his rifle, and takes aim, revealing his target to be Blaze, aiming straight for the heart. Finalizing his shot, Deadshot exhales, and then takes the shot, firing straight for Blaze. But Flash, he notices the glint of the bullet, the flash from the muzzle of the rifle, and realizes Blaze is the target. Knowing what he has to do, Flash dashes in front of Blaze, the air current from his speed deflecting the bullet from its trajectory, but still going through Blaze's shoulder and somehow into Flash's leg after passing through her, sending Flash spiraling across the pavement as the army of robots parts, revealing Captain Cold, who fires a freezing shot into Flash's leg, slowing his super healing)
Captain Cold: Nice shooting Deadshot.
Flash: Cold, for goodness' sake, look around! This isn't the type of guy you are!
Captain Cold: Breaking news, Flash. The Captain Cold you knew is gone. Has been ever since Superman executed my friends and sister. Well, today I'm taking revenge. And you know what they say about revenge.
(With that, Captain Cold aims at Flash's head, planning to freeze and shatter his skull, but not wanting to see her ally come to death, Blaze musters her strength, and with her shot out shoulder, rams Captain Cold to the ground, knocking the gun from his hand and sending him to the ground)
Blaze: I'm disappointed in you, Cold. If there's one thing I learned about this world, it's that the Rogues had a code that not even the worst of situations could push them to abandon. A sort of obstinance I could respect, unlike Batman's. I'm surprised Grodd convinced you to abandon it.
Captain Cold: It wasn't Grodd who convinced me. He just gave me the means to seek revenge.
Blaze: Look around, Cold! Do you really think this is what Golden Glider would've wanted?!
(At this point, Captain Cold is clearly pissed off and punches Blaze across the face)
Captain Cold: You don't get to say her name.
(Now, despite her bad shoulder, Blaze gets into the battle and knocks Captain Cold to the ground pretty quickly.)
Blaze: I can only hope there's a way to restore your faith in the world.
(With Captain Cold down, Blaze turns her attention back to the army of robots, before being mobbed by them, alongside Spyro and Cynder. Flash manages to rescue them, but it's clear he's getting exhausted.)
Blaze: Where the heck did you run off to?
Flash: Giving aid to the rest of the Legion across the world while you were handling Cold. And we all agree on one thing.
Blaze: That being?
Flash: There's too many of them! There's not enough of us to go around fighting them!
?: Then maybe we can help!
(And just like that, Harley Quinn comes rocketing in on a clearly Batman-made jetpack, demolishing a section of the robot army with her signature mallet)
Blaze: Harley?
Harley Quinn: Did you really think Bats wouldn't send us in on this?
Blaze: So what've we got?
Harley Quinn: Hal's in Coast City, Dinah's helping her presumably former hubby in Star City, the kids are in Central City, and Bats is doing his best in Gotham.
Blaze: So we're still outnumbered in most cases.
(As the group continues fighting, Supergirl, looking on, realizes exactly what can be done.)
Supergirl: I've got an idea.
Blaze: (Now looking at him, confused) You know someone we can reach out to?
Supergirl: It's a bit risky, but this should be able to work. We just need to get back to headquarters, and get Ollie.
Flash: (Realizes what she's talking about) It's a risk, but it could be just what we need.
Blaze: Ollie? What's he know about this?
Supergirl: I've got no time to explain. (Punches a robot through the head) If we're going to go through with it, we need to get started now.
(Clearly Blaze is conflicted, looking to Spyro and Cynder for advice)
Spyro: You heard Barry. If this is going to work, you need to move now.
Cynder: We'll handle things here.
(Now at least semi-confident in this plan, Blaze turns to Supergirl and gives her a nod)
Flash: Then let's get to it.
(With that, Blaze, Supergirl, and Flash take off from the battlefield, and soon we follow them back to Legion HQ, where Flash is dashing around looking for something.)
Blaze: So... what exactly is this plan of yours? And how does Ollie fit in?
Flash: (Thinking about it) Thanks for reminding me, let me go grab him.
(And just like that, Flash dashes off before returning with Green Arrow)
Green Arrow: (Surprised by what's happened) Flash? What the...? (Realizes something) Hold on. (Vomits off to the side) What the heck was that about?
Flash: We need to reach out.
Green Arrow: What are you...? (Thinks about it) Are you sure about that?
Flash: There's no other way we're going to be able to win this battle.
Green Arrow: I don't like it, but let's do this.
Blaze: Does somebody mind filling me in on what's going on here?!
(With that, Supergirl arrives, holding the world-hopping machine that brought them here in the first place)
Blaze: You have to be kidding me. (To Green Arrow) And you're from this other world, aren't you?
Green Arrow: Yeah. There's more than a few people who are gone here that could be helpful who are alive in my world.
Supergirl: And with this, we'll be able to pull them over.
Flash: I'll be honest, I'm hesitant. Last time we used this thing, it looked like we were going to break the universe.
Supergirl: Do we really have any other choice at this rate?
Flash: (Thinks about it) Not really, fire it up.
(With that, Supergirl turns the device on, and Green Arrow punches in the coordinates of his home universe, and before long, the device is active, and it appears to be working well this time)
Blaze: So do we have any idea who we'll be getting?
Green Arrow: Not really. I'll see who I can pull over.
Flash: I'm going with you. Should make things quick.
(And with that, both Green Arrow and Flash leap through the portal, and within seconds, Flash returns)
Flash: You're never going to believe who we got.
(And just like that, we're treated to silhouettes of those who came through, but only briefly, as we focus back in on Blaze soon afterwards)
Blaze: And Ollie?
Flash: He's still doing some recruiting, but he'll be back soon.
Blaze: Well then, we're already off to a great start.
(And just as we see the silhouettes again, our tale ends for today)
This concludes Part II of the Thanksgiving Special. For Part III, head on over to Every Depth of Good and Ill.
