?Sitting on the bed
Or lying wide awake
There's demons in my head
And it's more than I can take
I think I'm on a roll
But I think it's kinda weak
Saying all I know is
I gotta get away from me?
-Gotta Get Away, The Offspring
Dear Bonnie,
You may have noticed I haven't been around the past week since I became a badass coven leader. Truth be told, I'm away on secret coven leader business, and let me tell you, it has been a life-changing experience. I know I've been a relentless monster and as a result, my coven doesn't trust me. It's nothing new that no one trusts me, but now it hurts. It even hurts thinking of everything I've done to you. Seriously, the other night water was just oozing out of my eyeballs like I'm some alien creature excreting fluids and I couldn't stop it. That is until I thought of slaughtering my coven for not giving me half a chance, but then I thought to myself, what would Bonnie Bennett do?
So I made some of my followers into vampires (Tell Eleanor thanks for the blood, by the way) and put them through rigorous survival tests where I had to step in and save their lives. Sadly, none of them survived past dawn after they slaughtered a frat house, but I did make sure to keep my vampire friends safe from the humans during the night. Just the way you protect your vampire friends. You're my hero and I figured you'd be proud of me. As I watched them burn in the sunlight, I even kinda felt bad that they were dying. That's growth, right?
I'm on my way to becoming a new man, Bonnie and when you see me again, I'll be worthy of you and my beloved coven. Looking forward to the day our paths cross once more.
Love,
Kai Parker XOXOXO
P.S. Please don't burn this letter, I'd like you to save it as a token of my evolution.
Back to the plans Kai had for winning Bonnie over. They'd start slow, with revenge on everyone who'd betrayed her or placed themselves over her in danger. In the months he spent watching her, he'd heard countless conversations between Bonnie and Damon about that. Never a happy ending for the town witch. Kai didn't understand how she had all this power and didn't use it to her advantage, but to save vampires ? It didn't sit well with him and he decided Bonnie needed a change in perspective. And a good fuck. Even tho that dickhead was never far away from her, Kai had never witnessed them in the act, but he saw the way Damon looked at her. He wanted her, and not just because she was the only girl in this world. No, he had the look of a man who had been carrying a torch for her. He surmised that Bonnie adored him as well but it looked like a friend zone type thing, yet their dynamic was strangely intimate. He would replace Damon. Once they were on the same side, he'd show her how to live for herself and slowly begin to corrupt her.
Finally perfecting what he wanted to say to Bonnie after over a week of zero contact, Kai cast the spell that would magically deliver the letter and turned up the volume on his iPod speaker.
Bonnie's POV
" Love, Kai Parker ?" Bonnie rolled her eyes. "Not possible, the guy's incapable of comprehending the meaning of love," she also ignored the request not to burn it and did indeed set Kai's letter on fire, levitating it above her hand. The flame seemed to grow bigger and Bonnie magically thrust the expanding fire into the wastebin. The fire then transformed into smoke, strangely enough, it gave off no scent. Bonnie waved her hand, casting a silent spell to stop the smoke to no avail.
The smoke suddenly dissipated while a firm hand clamped over her mouth and a strong arm wrapped around her from behind. Then she heard Kai's unforgettable timber and felt his breath upon her ear.
"Bonnie," he whispered with lips that grazed her ear. "It's been too long."
Kai laughed softly in her ear. "Did you even wonder why I asked you not to burn my letter? It's because I knew you would. I just know you so well, Bonster."
She yelled something incomprehensible as her attempts were muffled. Kai shushed her then pushed her into the vanity mirror dresser in front of them, grinding into her backside.
"Shhh, it's ok. I'm not here to hurt you BonBon. I just wanted you to hear me out. I want to help. As long as you don't do anything stupid, I won't need to take your magic." Kai removed his hands from her mouth leaving an enchantment that sealed her lips together, rendering her helpless to scream for help. He gave another forceful pelvic thrust that jerked Bonnie forward, smashing her against the dresser. Muffled, she cried out as Kai exhaled deeply.
"God, you're so tempting," relaxing the force of his weight on Bonnie, Kai took a slight step back, enabling her to take a full breath. As soon as he did, she brought the heel of her boots down on Kai's foot.
"Gahh!" he bellowed, releasing her. Bonnie ran for the door but Kai used his magic to grab her and pull her back into his grasp, flopping on the bed with Bonnie in his lap. She struggled, squirming to get away but Kai had an iron grip.
"Bonnie. Bonnie! If you're gonna be difficult, I'll get mad and I won't want to help. I might even go all socio again. Do you really need that to be explained?"
She finally stilled.
"As you know, being the leader of my coven has imbued me with all this power. And my baby brother's emotions. You wouldn't believe how full of feeling that guy is. Feelings are hard . I felt so guilty at first, for everything I've done to you. Torturing you in the prison world, trying to force myself on you, and kill your friends. You must hate me with a passion. And that's understandable, I can't blame you for that. I just want you to know how sorry I am. Do you think you could ever forgive me?"
Bonnie would only glare at Kai, out of the corner of her eye as she leaned over to face him. Her eyes only flashed with anger and she fidgeted slightly.
"Right," Kai sighed, looking down at his feet. "Well, I've changed, Bon. Like I've said in my letter, I am evolving. And to prove it to you, I have a peace offering. All this power could be yours too,"
She narrowed her eyes in confusion. What the hell is he talking about?
"I could share it with you, show you how to wield all this power, do spells you've never even heard of. Bonnie, we could do anything and we'd be unstoppable. All you have to do is agree to partner with me. I can introduce you to a new power, that witch magic can't even hold a candle to. No one you love would ever get hurt again, because you'll have all the power."
Bonnie had no idea what the hell Kai was talking about, it sounded like the ramblings of the madman she knew him to be. She raised her brows in a question, as if asking for elaboration. Kai grinned at her silent inquiry.
"Promise me you'll think about it?"
She nodded, eyes still wide with terror and confusion. He pressed a kiss to the side of her head before he vanished into thin air. Suddenly aware that she could open her mouth again, Bonnie scrambled up and rushed out of her dorm room.
"I'm sorry guys, this is the lamest bachelorette party you've ever been to, isn't it?" Jo sighed from behind the bar of the diner that hosted her event. Only Bonnie and Elena were present, sitting at the bar. "And to make it worse, I can't even drink. I can't even eat all these snacks because I'll be bloated tomorrow!
"I'll drink extra for you," Elena offered, pouring herself two cups of tequila.
"Don't worry about it, you're pregnant and no ones even going to notice because you aren't even showing yet. You look great and you're glowing," Bonnie reassured her.
"Ok you get an extra drink too," Jo laughed.
"Oh no, I'm good. But Caroline will be here soon and then she and Elena can drink to their heart's content."
Jo's face dropped. "You're not into this. Oh my God, my party sucks!"
"No, it's not that! I'm happy for you, Jo. I really am. There's no one more perfect for Ric," Bonnie didn't have the heart to tell her the whole concept of marriage and weddings brought on painful memories.
"Bonnie's probably tired from everything that's been going on with Kai," Elena supplied, attempting to change the subject. But we're here, that's what matters, right?"
"Is it because you don't have a date to the wedding? That's ok, not everyone has one! I don't think Liv-"
"I'll be your date," Bonnie whirled around and stood up when she heard Kai's voice and snarled as he smirked. "Oh no. Not you again."
"Of course, Sis didn't give me an invitation."
"You don't belong here!" Jo hissed.
Ignoring her, he addressed Bonnie. "Have you considered my proposal?"
"I have. And I've come to realize Kai. That I don't need anything from you!" She retorted, visibly angering Kai.
Simultaneously, Bonnie threw her hands up in a blast of magic while Kai hurled his own magic at her. The force of their magic attack collided and ricocheted back to each witch. Jo ducked under the bar, yet somehow Kai redirected all the magic towards Elena. When it hit her, she was instantly desiccated. After he'd told her earlier her loved ones wouldn't be hurt anymore, now Elena was dead.
"No!" Bonnie rushed to Elena's side, cradling her grayed body. "Elena, please wake up!" She cried.
Jo came out from behind the bar and crouched next to Bonnie, eyeing Kai warily.
"He hasn't changed at all," Bonnie muttered.
"You're still the same evil jerk!" Jo shouted. "Stay away from Bonnie, and my wedding Kai. Or we'll put you away again, for good."
Kai stepped towards Bonnie but Jo stood up, in front of him, blocking his view. He peered around her. "If you want your bestie back, you know where to find me. The power is yours for the taking, if you just open your eyes."
"Hear me now, and hear me well. I will never agree to partner with you. Ever!"
"Well then I'll just have to change your mind won't I?"
Kai was gone in an instant. Bonnie turned to Jo. "We need to get her to the boardinghouse,"
"Bonnie, she's gone,"
"I can bring her back but we need to hurry! Jo, please," Bonnie begged when Jo just stared at her sadly. "Kai can't do this, he doesn't get to win after everything he's done. I've died for her and she's died for me. I'm gonna save her!"
Jo agreed silently, nodding as Caroline sauntered through the entrance. "The party can start now," she noticed Elena's body. "Oh my God what happened?!"
"It's ok, we're gonna get her back. Get her to the boarding house, now ."
"But how?"
"Let's go, we're running out of time!"
New Orleans
2010
Toni's POV
"We have to go back," Toni said as Cheryl rushed to the bike.
"TT, I'm not going back in there! I don't know what the hell that was, besides pure evil!" Cheryl grabbed her motorcycle helmet from Toni's bike and held it at her side. "Let's go,"
This trip was turning out to be a nightmare. They were supposed to meet up with a contact who had supposedly had a lead on Archie's whereabouts. At the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, Toni and Cheryl were on their way to check into their own room when something unfathomable happened. A young man and woman had rushed into the elevator at lightning speed, nearly appearing out of nowhere while Toni's was lost in Cheryl's lips. They appeared so suddenly that Cheryl yelped in surprise, prompting the man to demand their exit, glaring at him with a face that appeared demon-like.
As Cheryl and Toni fled, Toni felt a charge flow through her and a light bulb in the elevator and hall combusted after a moment of flickering. Cheryl assumed it was the demon's doing, and Toni didn't know how to tell her it was actually her own doing, considering what they'd just witnessed. Still, she recognized the resolute look present in Cheryl's eyes, but they hadn't traveled all that way for nothing. This was for Archie.
"Babe, we can't leave yet, we don't have any leads," Toni protested.
"You misunderstand me, TT," Cheryl crooned. "I didn't suggest we leave town and go home. There are ways of protecting ourselves in the face of such danger. I simply meant I wouldn't set foot in that indisputable hotel of evil again until we have said means of protection."
"Protection?"
"That's right, mon petit amour," Cheryl handed Toni her motorcycle helmet. "We need to visit the young harvest witch. She owes Nana a favor."
Toni slowly swung her leg over her motorcycle, looking back at Cheryl seductively. "Just tell me which way, babe,"
The Cherry Bombshell bit her lip and climbed on the back of her girlfriend's motorcycle and after they each secured their helmets, Cheryl locked her arms around Toni's waist. The engine roared to life and they were off to the St. Joseph cemetery.
When they arrived at the cemetery, Davina Claire stepped out of the mausoleum, having already sensed their presence. She held a paper bag in her hands. "Cheryl Blossom, I presume."
"You must be Davina Claire," Cheryl said as each woman respectively sized the other up.
"And you," Davina sniffed the air around her and gazed admirably at Toni. "Smell wonderful,"
"The credit for that goes to Marc Jacobs of course. Nothing but the best for my beloved," Cheryl responded, squeezing Toni's hand. "Aside from that, her natural scent is just breathtaking!"
Davina halted her gaze on Toni a minute, then turned to Cheryl. "I know why you're here. The prophecy. But it's not time yet. You won't see Archie again," her gaze flickered back to Toni. "For another couple of years."
"Davina Claire, that is not the sort of contradictory answer I expect from someone who uttered the very words, 'I am forever in your debt for generations to come' to my Nana Rose!"
"What do you mean prophecy?" Toni asked, speaking up for the first time.
She noticed that the flames of the candles lit in the mausoleum started to burn brighter. This concerned her, being that it didn't appear to be hers or Davina's doing.
"I'm sorry ladies, that's all I can tell you. Go back to Riverdale, you'll be safest there. But take this, it's an herb called vervain," Davina placed the paper bag in Cheryl's hands and the gates of the cemetery began to swing. "It will keep you safe if you have any other strange encounters while you're here. I can't tell you anymore, you have to go now!"
Without another word, Davina rushed back into the mausoleum.
An ominous feeling began swirling in the atmosphere, which computed to Toni that this was as far as they'd get searching for Archie.
"We need to go home, babe," Toni said, brushing off Cheryl's pout. "We need to leave now."
Kol's POV
The sight of Bonnie in her best knickers threatened to drive Kol mad. It wasn't the lavender cheeky panties she'd donned weeks ago, but a black G-string thong. A flimsy piece of cloth that barely covered her nether region and Kol hissed a sharp breath at the revelation she'd gone off with Damon knowing there was merely a flimsy piece of cloth under her shorts separating her and anyone. It made him all the more anxious to claim Bonnie, as she was his, determined by fate. Kol would be damned, eternally if another had the pleasure of breaching her unscathed walls before he'd had an opportunity to take what was rightfully his. Still, he knew she wasn't ready but Kol's patience had reached its limits. He wanted her, but more than that needed her in the worst way. It wasn't as if he'd lose interest at the conclusion of coital bliss. He was falling hard for Bonnie, into an endless well of every discernable enamored emotion to be fathomed. It was nigh time Bonnie recognized that. He would dote on her and keep her safe from danger if she could only get it through her stubborn, pretty little head. His intentions were pure, for the most part. For the other part, she needed to learn that defying Kol was an act of disloyalty that simply would not do…
Kol unbuttoned her blouse, revealing a black lace bra. He could feel and hear how fast her heart was beating, as well as her trepidation and her own desire. Bonnie was blatantly conflicted because she liked the feel of Kol taking control, yet her inexperience kept her reserved. She felt exposed and vulnerable. He considered it would be a learning moment for them both, he would learn her body while she learned the gravity of what it meant to be his girl.
Dropping kisses up her stomach, he nipped at her nipples through her bra, eliciting her soft moans in response.
"Kol," she sighed. He kissed her instead of responding, doing that swirly thing with his tongue that she loved so much. He began kneading her breasts with one hand. His other hand slid between her legs, palming the mound that moistened her undergarment and Bonnie yelled out.
"Too much! I want you to stop. This-"
"Is as warranted as your impromptu trip here. I wanted you to wait to leave with me, you wanted me to wait to access this treasure," The more she refused him, the more he wanted her but Kol was determined to draw out her sweet torment for each mile of the distance she had willingly put between them. "There are consequences for defying me, beautiful."
"Consequences? There will be consequences for this! When I get out of these fucking chains I'm- Ahhh!" Because Bonni was attempting to make unfounded threats of retribution, Kol decided he best get started, repositioning himself again. In a few moments, she wouldn't remember what she wanted to say anyway. He swiped his tongue up her slit, up once quickly, then back down slowly. Her flavor was so fucking delectable and she reacted receptively, arching her hips up into him and releasing a soft, drawn-out wail.
"Totally worth it," he mused as he crawled up her form. "Did you like that, Bonnie?"
"No!" She snapped, squeezing her eyes shut.
"No?" He cocked his head, looking up at her. She was so innocent and shy it was adorable. Kol knew Bonnie had only ever participated in a bit of fondling once before, but she declined to continue further in that endeavor. Whenever Kol had asked her if she'd ever pleasured herself, she'd always avoided the question. For all his effort and antics, Kol couldn't get Bonnie to discern a clear answer on that.
"I do, but- I -I,"
"I won't push you, Bonnie. I just want to…"
He enclosed his mouth over her clit and after biting the fabric off, proceeded to spell the words you are mine and Kol Mikaelson, among other things he wanted her to remember, circling each letter around her most sensitive nerve bundle, taking a breath to explain to her what each word or phrase meant before he continued. When Bonnie was close to her climax, noted by her audio display of pleasure, Kol pulled away.
"Kol! Why did you stop?" Bonnie whined. Kol grinned as he sat up and positioned himself to lay next to Bonnie.
"I thought you wanted me to,"
"No!" She shook her head furiously.
"Have I displeased you, love?" He queried, his face expressing mock concern. He brushed a strand of hair away from her face as she stared at him, confounded. "Just the same way you have displeased me?"
Her puzzled expression watching his smug one instantly turned into a blazing skewer of fury as she smacked his hand away and scrambled to get up and back into her shorts. Feeling the fury that radiated from her, he let her go.
"Asshole!" She shouted as she ran into the bathroom.
Kol wanted to feel bad, he truly did but he couldn't bring himself to so he remained angry and smug. He knew Bonnie was young and had yet to learn these things, but there truly were consequences. From his perspective, she had wronged him and the only way he knew how to make her understand just how unacceptable that was, was to tap into her vulnerability and spread it bare for his own scrutiny. He had worried, killed, and despaired at the thought that her deceptive kiss might be their last exchange. He figured he'd give her his own kiss of deception. It was justified.
Until he felt a sinking sensation in his chest. It was Bonnie's emotions and they were spiraling. She was feeling a mix of humiliation, exploitation, and heartbreak, apprehensive of her connection with Kol. Then he heard her crying, uncontrollably despairing. Facepalm! No, no, NO! That's not what he intended. She was supposed to feel bad for her deception, not second guess her feelings for Kol. The last thing he wanted was for Bonnie to feel foolish for being with him. Recognizing his massive fuck up, he let regret and sorrow flood his emotions before he knocked on the bathroom.
He heard a gasp before a teary voice said, "Just a minute," Kol felt her emotions transition back to anger. His own continued to express remorse as her anger turned into rage.
Kol heard her washing herself up and then she opened the door. Her face was scrubbed clean, devoid of any tear stains but her eyes were rimmed red as well as the area around her nose. Her hair was now up in a messy bun, but she looked as beautiful as ever. She wouldn't look at him, she kept her eyes lowered to the floor. Before Kol could utter a heartfelt apology and pull her into his embrace, Bonnie spoke.
"I want you to leave this room,"
"Bonnie, my sweet, I-"
"Either you leave this room or I will. And I can't exactly walk around with these chains on, nor can I take them off because my heightened emotions make my magic unstable so I think you should leave."
"I'm not going anywhere,"
"Kol, for once leave me alone! I'm not going to say it again." She finally looked into his eyes for a split second, meaning every word.
He knew she needed space, more than he needed to hold her at that moment, so Kol acquiesced, taking a step back. He pulled on his shirt and gathered his belongings on the table before he stepped around his little witch into the bathroom. After a few moments, he came out and tried to speak to her again.
"Bonnie, I understand you're quite cross with me,"
Bonnie swung the hotel room door and continued to avoid his gaze. More rage and contempt manifested. With a sigh, Kol flashed out, wondering how the hell this flipped around to him being the bad guy.
Damon's POV
As soon as Damon received a text from Bonnie, he utilized vampire speed to get there within minutes. He rapped on the door looking around the hall.
When the door opened, he saw her puffy eyes and messy bun. "Geezus, what happened to you? I'm guessing holding hands didn't go as planned,"
Damon amused himself with the fact that Kol had literally whisked Bonnie away for "hero sex" but of course they weren't fucking, he knew this sensing her virginity was still intact. He couldn't help but think if it was him, he'd have gotten there by now.
Instead of coming back with a snide remark or telling Damon to shut up and mind his business, Bonnie grimaced as tears began to fall. "Can we talk about something else, please?"
"Bon, what's up?"
She just shook her head, pressing her lips together as silent tears fell. Damon couldn't recall ever seeing Bonnie this distraught before and it pained him. He tentatively reached for her and pulled her into a hug, kicking the door closed behind him. Surprisingly, Bonnie didn't push him away but snuggled into his chest.
"You want me to kick his ass?"
"Damon, he'll literally kill you," she mumbled against his chest.
"Yeah, but I'd put up a good fight and go out like a champ. So your boyfriend's a dick. I get it, guys are dicks sometimes."
"I really don't wanna discuss my relationship with you,"
"We don't have to discuss it, I'm just reminding you that Kol's a dick," he pulled back and gave her an obvious smirk.
Bonnie let out a half-hearted chuckle before she pulled away. "Is Matt ok?"
Damon searched her face. Although he was pleased he'd made her laugh he was annoyed her worries were misplaced. "You're standing here crying your eyes out and the first thing you wanna know is if Donovan is ok?"
"Is he?"
"He's fine he's with Rebekah," he replied with an eyeroll. "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine," she replied, obviously lying.
"This is why!"
Damon pointed a finger at nothing in particular.
"Why what?"
"You think I compelled Abby to stick around for you? That's not how it went down. I only compelled her to be honest with herself about the kind of mother her daughter deserves. She chose to stay on her own. I didn't even realize I was compelling her, I thought compulsion didn't work on witches." he admitted.
"How did you even compel her?"
"I'm still trying to figure it out."
"But... why, Damon? I thought you hated me."
That made him frown. "You aren't the worst company. Besides, I figure if Katherine, who's thee most selfish and cold bitch I've ever met, could show an ounce of concern for her Satan spawn, then Abby's a perfect candidate for second chances when it comes to mommin' it."
Bonnie snickered, probably at how uncharacteristic Damon's sentiments were. "and what brought you to that conclusion?"
"Well, you see I had the devil spawn's heart in my clutches and there was a look in Katherine's eyes,"
"Oh shit," Bonnie put her head in her hands.
"Abby had the same look. They were worried about their daughters. Of losing them. And since you're always worrying about everyone but Bonnie, you need someone to put you first. That doesn't want to get in your pants."
Bonnie's jaw dropped. "Wow. Damon, that's so,"
"it's nothing, don't get gushy on me," Damon grimaced as the mood became too sentimental. "We should get back on the road,"
"What about Esther and Katherine? And the cure?"
"Katherine skipped town with the cure. Esther's hanging around in one of these magic shops with her guard dog Finn. You don't seriously wanna go up against Esther still?" Damon narrowed his eyes at Bonnie. "Let's just skip town and break the Original's sire bond. I know you can do it, Bonnie, you're powerful and your magic's just starting to manifest."
"I gave Klaus my word Damon. And unlike The Originals, I intend to keep it. We stop Esther first, then we can break the sire bonds. All of them." Bonnie grabbed her cellphone. "Let's go find Esther."
Kol and Rebekah's POV
Kol banged on the door of the room he sensed his sister was occupying.
"Come on, Bekah! We haven't got all night!"
The occupant in the room next door poked their head out to shush Kol, who flashed his vampire face at them. They shrieked and ran down the hall, stumbling down the stair exit.
Rebekah swung open the door. "What do you want now, Kol? Don't you have a young witch to seduce out of her upright knickers?"
Kol ignored her question and gestured to Matt behind her. "Has anyone tried to compel him since the cure has been retrieved?"
Rebekah shrugged and sauntered over to Matt. She dilated her pupils as she stared into his blue eyes. "Sit down,"
He sat.
"Tell Kol what you really think of him," she instructed.
Matt stared like a zombie and talked about how he thought Kol was a psycho who didn't deserve Bonnie, whom he planned on killing himself if he ever hurt her.
Rebekah smiled, pleasantly surprised. "He can be compelled again,"
Kol shoved past her and looked Matt in the eye. "Have you ever harbored any romantic feelings for Bonnie?"
"Bloody hell, Kol, don't be petty! That role is reserved for me,"
Matt grinned a warm smile while admitting that Bonnie was his first crush in middle school.
"No," Kol supplied softly as he shook his head. His eyes began to glow. "She wasn't. In fact, you've never seen her as anything more than an annoying little sister, but still, you'd put her darling life in front of your own, dying for her, killing for her. Anything to protect her,"
"Yeah," Matt agreed. "I'd do anything to keep Bon safe even if it is a hassle,"
"That's right, mate. Now, return home to Mystic Falls. Seek sanctuary with the Mary Sue doppelgänger."
"Nik will kill him, Kol! What has gotten into you?!" Rebekah yelled as Matt took his leave.
"It's a wonder he's survived this long, sister. Come, we're tailing Bonnie and Damon,"
Rebekah guffawed as she realized what that meant. "Did the witch really give you the slip?" She doubled over in laughter until she realized Kol was hardly reacting, merely looking contemplative.
"What's wrong with you?" Rebekah rolled her eyes. "Why are you acting as if you won't kiss and make up by tomorrow like you two always seem to do?" Then it seemed to hit her. "What did you do to her?"
"I've went and blundered it all to hell," he sighed as they began walking towards the elevator door.
"Your point being? You've done this with just about every other girl except usually you're the one fleeing from them."
Kol explained in vague detail how he'd coerced Bonnie into her first intimate situation, only to leave her wanting.
Rebekah studied her older brother carefully. "And you claim to be in love with her? Do you really expect her to believe that now?"
"I am," there was no point in denying it, seeing as how it was his complete undoing. He winced when Rebekah slapped him upside his head.
"How many serious relationships have you been in?! You don't ever keep a lady waiting, especially not when it comes to intimacy! It will be a cold day in hell before she goes near you again. You've really done it this time, Kol!"
He sighed again. "I only meant for her to understand the consequences of defying me, I never meant to hurt her."
"You humiliated her and wounded her pride. If a man had done any of that to me, you'd kill him in an instant. Why then, should the same courtesy not be granted to your love?" Rebekah raised a brow as they stepped into the elevator.
Kol knew it was a double standard but the fact remained that, he was unkillable unless their mother would use her weapon against him.
"To that I say, I can't be killed." He smirked while Rebekah seethed.
"I feel compelled to remind you that although you can't be killed, you can certainly be dumped. Which is what you deserve if you think you can treat Bonnie that way, all in the name of love." Rebekah sighed at how idiotic her brother was. "Take it from someone who's been in love countless times. That's not love. You don't know what love is, Kol. You only have love for yourself, if you think that way."
Before Kol could argue his point, Rebekah reached over and snapped his neck with Original speed. "That's for Bonnie, you dolt! I was just starting to like her." She spat as Kol slumped to the elevator floor.
Bonnie's POV
Bonnie and Damon walked up to the gates of St Joseph's cemetery. It was open but a certain reservation kept Bonnie from crossing the threshold. "Wait," she placed an arm over Damon's torso, feeling ancient and potent magic vibrating in the air. "I think-"
Suddenly Damon grabbed Bonnie and zipped her to the sides of the gate as arrows came propelling in the spot he'd just stood.
"We aren't welcome here," Bonnie gasped.
"No, you aren't," a young voice said. "Not without an invitation."
A young girl who looked to be around seventeen or eighteen years old stood on the other side of the cemetery gates. She had olive skin, long brunette waves and a piercing hazel glare, fixed on Bonnie. "You would be if you hadn't turned your back on your sisters of nature,"
"You're the harvest witch? I thought you'd be taller," Bonnie replied haughtily.
The young harvest witch lifted a fist and Bonnie felt pressure in her chest. She combatted it with her own magic but the sensation was overwhelming. Still she persevered.
The girl laughed and released her pressure, enabling Bonnie to do the same. "It's Davina. You sure can hold your own. But you're out of your element here, Bonnie. Even for a Bennett witch."
"Just tell us where Esther is, half-pint, and we'll be on our way. You can have your pissing contest with some other teen witch. This one's busy!" Damon snapped and shot Davina his cerulean glare.
"Esther's here," Davina cocked her hands and shifted her weight to stand in a T-pose. "She's expecting the witch. Not you, vampire."
Alarm coursed through Bonnie. If Esther was expecting her, then it was indeed a trap as Kol suspected. Dammit! She hated when he was right about such things. Still, she had come this far so she intended to see it through.
"Uh-uh. Witchy's not going anywhere without me,"
"Damon, it's fine,"
"No Bonnie!" He placed his hands on her shoulders. "Sabrina's brewing something in her cauldron with Esther. It's too dangerous, we're better off tailing Katherine,"
"Things don't have to be this way, Bonnie," Davina called. "She wants you and the Original. But we're wasting time so," she snapped her fingers and Bonnie was being pushed in her direction.
"NO!l Damon shouted.
Kol suddenly appeared out of nowhere, stopping Bonnie who scowled at him. "Wait!" He held up a palm to Davina. "We'll join you," to Damon he whispered something inaudible.
Davina's expression changed from one of annoyed to pleased at the sight of Kol. Bonnie didn't like it one bit. "You're him, aren't you? One of the old ones,"
"This is consecrated ground right? Invite us all in if you want to avoid bloodshed,"
"She only wants you two," Davina repeated with a shake of her head.
"Not a chance. She'll kill us both, we're only here to talk,"
She hesitated a moment before sighing. "Fine. If you try anything, I'll rescind your invitation so fast, you'll all burn on the spot. You'll be fine after but I can't say the same for your friends here. You're all invited in," she said with an eye roll. "Follow me,"
Noticing the sultry look Davina gave Kol before she turned on her heel, Bonnie watched for any semblance of a reaction from Kol. After detecting none, she scoffed. She was still pissed with him, but at least he wasn't going to further humiliate her over a girl. Still, she stepped in front of him, blocking his view of Davina in favor of her own glorious ass in her fitted jean shorts, knowing what the sight did to him.
Kol and Damon followed as Davina led the group down a maze of grave houses, turning twice before she stopped in front of a large mausoleum. "In here," she gestured.
Present-day Mystic Falls 2013
Two months Bonnie had been back in present-day Mystic Falls and no sign of Kol. She couldn't feel him because she had put the cloaking spell back up after she recovered from her ordeal with Kai. Bonnie was beginning to panic. He should have been here by now so something could be wrong. A number of things could have gone wrong from Esther finding him or Klaus daggering him. Bonnie didn't know and she couldn't risk the dropping the spell, that might be exactly what Klaus or Esther are expecting. Still, she was getting anxious.
Then another thought crossed her mind, thanks to Damon, who was tossing around random ideas when she asked him over to wail and lament about Kol's continued absence.
"Where is he, Damon?"
"I don't know, witchy, maybe your original boy toy moved on. You've been swerving him for years, you wouldn't give him the cookie, then you were technically dead to the world while we were stuck in the prison world. Maybe another little pretty witch caught his eye." He wiggled his eyebrows at her & widened his eyes.
"Or maybe, Mama Original took him and his insufferable clan of siblings out, once and for all. Who's to know?"
"That's not funny. Is this a game to you? Are you enjoying my suffering?" Bonnie was exasperated with his shit.
"A little," he winked.
Bonnie rolled her eyes.
"Hey, hey. I'm sorry." Damon said, pulling her in an embrace. He gave her a gentle squeeze.
"That's not even in the realm of possibility, anyways," she said against his chest. "Sure he can seduce whatever girl he wants, he needs to live his life. But he loves me. He'll always come back to me."
"I dunno Bon, you've been icing him for years,"
Bonnie pulled away and hit his arm. "This isn't helping!"
"You should've called Elena. Or Caroline."
"I will, next time!"
She huffed and sat down.
"I don't think I can do this, Damon."
"You wanna skip the wedding?"
"I'm just worried Kai might find some way to ruin it. If he hadn't showed up last night, I wouldn't have had to resurrect Elena. If he pulls some shit like that tonight, I don't know. I haven't had time to fully recharge."
"So we skip the wedding then. No point in you going if Kai might be lurking." Damon suggested.
"And leave everyone at Kai's mercy? I don't think so."
"Well what, then?!" Damon's patience always thinned when witchy was being indecisive.
"Excuse me?"
"I've got it!" Damon snapped his fingers. "Your magical reserve. You haven't touched it since your Grams died."
Bonnie's face lit up. "Oh my god, you're right! That'll give my magic a boost without wearing me out. Well, as long as Kai doesn't siphon me, then it's back to square one."
"Gold star for you, witchy." He winked again.
"Ok, let's go. Looks like we have a wedding to attend tonight!" She sat up from her couch.
"Oh yeah, it will definitely be a magical night to remember. And if you're feeling like the lonely bridesmaid tonight," He made his wild eyes at her and hiked up his eyebrows. "I'll probably be busy with another bridesmaid so don't call me unless it's a life or death scenario."
Bonnie rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I should've called one of my girls, right?"
Damon could only laugh in agreement.
Bonnie and Damon's POV
Bonnie beamed as Ric said his vows and she almost felt guilty for not wanting to show up earlier. A sentiment which changed instantaneously as she saw the thick red blood flowing down Jo's gown. Kai appeared out of a cloaking spell, brandishing the bloody knife that had just gutted his sister. As Jo collapsed into a sobbing Ric's arms as he sank to his feet, Bonnie could tell Jo was dead before she reached the ground.
Kai searched the pews until he found Bonnie's mortified expression and the sight visibly pleased him. He held her stare as he licked his twin's blood from the knife.
Everyone was screaming and rushing out of their seats but Bonnie was just caught in Kai's demented gaze. Damon grabbed Bonnie, who looked like she was going into shock and turned her to face him. "Bonnie, look at me! Don't look at him. Bonnie. Bonnie!"
Bonnie finally noticed Damon cradling her head and nodded. At the sight of Damon holding Bonnie so tender and brazenly, an enraged Kai threw his hands up and out and in an instant all the glass in the chapel shattered, with the shards digging into the remaining guests.
Damon shoved Bonnie down and covered her with his body until the glass settled. "Stay right here, I'm gonna get you out of here, ok?" Damon didn't dare ask why Bonnie hadn't activated her magical reserve yet, he could see she was clearly in distress at the sight of the man who had tormented her at every opportunity presented, slaughtering his own siblings' wedding party. He had effectively finished off his coven in doing so. Damon just needed to get Bonnie out of there. "Stefan!" He called out to his brother who was somewhere around here, as he struggled to get up, picking glass shards off his back.
"I'm alive Damon," Stefan called back. Damon didn't respond, sticking to their agreement that if anything went down, Damon calling him was to let him know that he was getting Bonnie out, and Stefan's reply was to help the rest of their friends out.
Kai approached Bonnie slowly, amidst the sea of dead and dying bodies and twisted his hands into a silent neck snapping spell on Damon, but not before Damon caught the doppelgänger's eye. Darkness took over and the last thing he saw was Kai nearing Witchy.
Kol and Bonnie's POV
As Kai reached Bonnie crouching next to a crumpled Damon, he held his hand out for her to take. "Come with me if you want to live!" Imitating Arnold Swarchenegger, he grinned as wide as the Cheshire Cat but Bonnie only frowned at him, her chest heaving in deeply Kai sighed. Honestly, she could do with a better sense of humor, it was hard on Kai being the only one with comedic gold.
"Seriously," he crouched down next to her and reached his hand out to stroke her hair, only pulling back when she flinched. No, that just wouldn't do. He didn't want her fearing him, she probably wasn't used to seeing that many dead people. No one else had to die, as long as he was able to get her out of here, safely. "Come with me, little witch. This place is falling apart and you look like you could use a vacation from all this witchy woo. I promise I won't kill anyone else," he added in a singsong voice.
Bonnie lifted her chin up in that defiant way that drove all the men in her life crazy and glowered at the siphon. She then spit in his face.
"Don't you ever call me that." Rage shook through her voice as Kai dragged his hand across his face where her saliva landed. Something about hearing Kol's pet name from Kai of all people did something to incite her rage, effectively dissolving her state of shock. Kol was supposed to be here and not Kai.
Bonnie slowly ascended, still glaring down at him. She gagged a little but wasn't surprised when Kai took the hand that gathered her saliva and slid it across his tongue. She'd always known something was seriously off about him.
Kai grinned his shit smile and slowly stood up, towering over the witch. He marveled at the cinematic way she seemed to rise and find her voice. "Awww why not, little witch? Is that your boyfriend's name for you?" He laughed as he kicked Damon's body.
The ceiling trembled and dust began to fall as it cracked.
"Let's go, Bonnie, I'll let you spit on me later," he said with a wink as he reached for her again.
Before he could make contact, a blur flashed by and Elena was dangling him by the throat, in full vampire visage.
"Kai. No one likes you and you weren't invited." She snarled as she crushed down on his neck.
With a silent spell, Kai beckoned a piece of wood from the broken pew to fly into Elena's chest. Kai had intentionally aimed for the heart because Elena had interrupted what was about to be an intimate hero moment with Bonnie. Even though he promised not to kill anyone else, ruining his moment with Bonnie was an inexcusable offense. He was hoping Bonnie didn't like Elena all that much. Kai himself much preferred Caroline, she was so bubbly when she wasn't in defense mode.
Bonnie intercepted the stake before it could puncture Elena and with a motus, she blasted Elena, the stake, and Kai each in different directions.
Bonnie rushed towards Elena. "Get Ric out of here, now,"
"Bonnie, I'm not leaving you!" Elena cried.
"I'll be fine, there's Enzo. Go, now!" Elena stared for a beat then flashed to Ric, pulling him away from his bride's corpse. He could only faintly protest before she sped him out of the chapel.
"Enzo, can you hear me?" Bonnie asked under her breath, locking eyes with him from across the room.
He nodded. "Is everyone else dead?"
At that he nodded his head.
"As soon as he's up, grab Damon and get out as fast as you can. I'm going to drop the beam on Kai, ok?"
Enzo silently agreed.
Kai was still trying to regain his footing after being thrown across the room. He was a bit dazed but he heard Bonnie calling to him.
"Get up Kai! You ungrateful little shit. All this untapped power and you're still doing awful things? Jo didn't deserve this!" She yelled.
Someone grew some balls! Kai was trying to discern whether or not this was a trap, she was usually counting on him to be otherwise incapacitated so she could take her leave of him. He stayed where he was, watching her. She was creeping towards him but she stopped a few yards away to continue berating him.
"The whole coven is dead now, Kai. You're going to be alone forever now, and it's your own doing. You're pathetic!" With that, she turned on her heel, hoping he'd take the bait and get up.
So she's trying to hurt me. He started to get to his feet when he noticed someone flashed over in a blur and collected Damon's lifeless body before speeding out.
The next thing he saw was a beam, crashing down on him.
After Bonnie brought down the beam she had to tap into a bit of her magic reserve and teleport herself outside. There was no way humanly possible she could've made it running.
Davina's POV
New Orleans
Before she even opened her apartment door, Davina could sense the ancient vampire on the other side of it. She swung it open and threw her arms around Kol, taking him by surprise.
"This is a warmer salutation than I expected," he chuckled as he held her.
"Come in," she said as she pulled him into her apartment, still embracing him. "God, it's been almost two years. Where have you been?"
"I actually can't stay, dear. I'm only passing through." He said as he held her at an arm's length. Immediately Davina's warm mannerisms changed and she scoffed, pulling away. She couldn't help feeling used. She had spent months traveling throughout Europe with Kol after he split from the Bennett witch and her time with him cemented his place in her heart. She knew he didn't feel the same way about her as he did Bonnie, but she was sure they'd established a connection. Upon revealing her feelings for him, he took Davina back to New Orleans and departed without her, becoming the equivalent of a ghost for nearly two years.
"Let me guess, you're on your way to Mystic Falls. You're going back to the Bennett witch, aren't you?"
Kol just sighed, his eyes beseeching her to not start a quarrel. Unfortunately, the moment she realized the reason for his visit already had her started.
"Back to someone who doesn't love you or she never would've left you in the first place. Can't you see how stupid that is?"
"Davina, my relationship with Bonnie is not for you to question, nor is it any concern of yours. You obviously know why I'm here. It's time to collect on that promise you made me,"
"No," Davina shook her head furiously. She was not going to let anything come between her and Kol again, especially not some ungrateful witch who wasn't even strong enough to stick by the man she claimed to love. "I'm not doing anything for her, she doesn't deserve you, Kol! I love you and I won't let you do this to yourself anymore!"
"Darling, if you think what we had was love, I'm afraid you don't know the true meaning of love," Kol said softly but assuredly.
Hazel eyes regarded him, painfully before she whimpered and rushed up against him, planting her lips on him.
AN: The chapter title relates to the theme of this chapter where we see multiple characters have a misguided view of love.

I didn't think I'd get this out by today, but I managed to and I'm glad because today is a hard day for my family. Aside from that, I do aim to update as often as possible, since most of the rest is already written, I'm just working on filling in the gaps between scenes because I'm backwards like that and it's a fun challenge.
As always if there are any errors, I will hunt them down and correct them as I go.
