This is Part III of the New Years Special. Last time, Darkblood took center stage, bringing the allegiances of Raven and Killer Frost to the Empire. Today though, things are going to be different. How? You'll see. Though, you've already kind of seen what we're doing in a previous chapter. You'll see in a moment. So let's get to that moment.
(Our scene opens not with the Legion, but instead with Dracia, still reading her mother's old journal, clearly having just read that Captain Cold joined the group.)
Dracia: So that's how Uncle Lenny entered the picture. I've been trying to figure that out for a while!
(As Dracia continues to read the journal, we see a figure enter her chambers, one of familiar splotchy green scales. Clearly this figure's entrance is unnoticed by Dracia until he steps on a stray wooden floorboard, causing it to creek, and himself to panic as Dracia notices him with a gasp)
Dracia: Oh, Sulfur, it's you. What's with the heart attack?
(Now we see Sulfur in detail, and he's changed since we last saw him fighting off the Dark Order. No longer the awkward young drake that he was, Sulfur's grown into his full Earth-elemental frame, clearly more muscular than the child we last saw, yet he retains the sensitivity in his eyes that was present at such a young age. Essentially, puberty was very kind to him)
Sulfur: S-s-sorry, Dracia. I was just trying to see what you were up to. Nobody's seen you all morning.
Dracia: (Looks at the sun through her window) Has it been that long already? (Looks back to the journal) I guess I got sucked into the old stories.
Sulfur: (Now seeing the journal himself) What's that?
Dracia: It's apparently the journal Mom kept during the Injustice Wars.
Sulfur: No way. That journal was supposedly only a myth!
Dracia: Nope, it's very real.
Sulfur: (Putting it together) They must've given it to you to help allay your nerves about taking over the NIL in six days.
Dracia: Pretty much. (Thinks about it) How'd you figure out I was nervous about that?
Sulfur: (Stumbling over his words, his old awkwardness still showing a bit) Well... I... Uh... There... There's... really not much else you could be nervous about. I mean, you've been training 15 years for this day. We both have.
Dracia: (Realizes it) Good point, I'd almost forgotten you were taking command of the Element Guard in my absence.
Sulfur: And to be honest, you and your father are tough acts to follow.
Dracia: Hey, don't sweat it, Sulfur. If there's any dragon who can take over for either of us, it's you. I've known that since we faced off against the Dark Order all those years ago.
Sulfur: Yeah. Surprisingly, things were so much simpler then. I can still remember when you and Freylini almost burned down the Swamp.
Dracia: You just won't let that die, will you?
Sulfur: Believe me, Raygarro's worse about it.
Dracia: Good point. He was always a stickler for policy.
Sulfur: Though since he and that Fire drake from Warfang got together, he's lightened up a bit, much to Freylini's delight.
Dracia: Yeah. (Thinking about it) Sulfur?
Sulfur: Yeah?
Dracia: This is going to be an awkward question, I'm sure. But... have you ever loved someone, so much that thought you could never tell them?
Sulfur: Have you?
Dracia: I do. But that doesn't answer my question.
Sulfur: In that case, yes, yes I have.
Dracia: If I may ask, who was it?
Sulfur: You know them pretty well, considering you see them every time you look in a mirror.
Dracia: (Putting it together) What?
Sulfur: (Realizing what he's just said) I've said too much.
Dracia: No, no, wait a second. Did you just say what I think you said?
(At this point, there's no way Sulfur can hide it. So, with red splotching his already green face, he sighs and turns to Dracia)
Sulfur: Yes. I guess I did. In a way. But, it's going to do me no good hiding it now. Yes, Dracia. I'm in love with you. I've loved you since we were children. Probably from the moment I first laid eyes on you, I knew I loved you.
Dracia: Well... why didn't you say something sooner?
Sulfur: I guess I always feared rejection. I mean, you're the child of Dragnarok, the grand-daughter of Spyro. The third generation in a long line of legends. I figured what's a plan old Earth-Poison dragon like me got that puts me above the crowds of suitors that would be knocking down your door the second you came of age? I wanted to tell you how I felt for years, but my efforts went unnoticed. Then again, that's kind of what I expected. Expect disappointment and you'll always be satisfied I guess.
(Dracia is stunned, she never realized that Sulfur has loved her all these years, and she never noticed. But after hearing it, she lets out a sigh of relief, then starts chuckling, a reaction which perplexes Sulfur)
Sulfur: Should I even ask what's so funny?
Dracia: I'm just laughing at myself for not noticing it all these years. Especially since I feel the same way.
Sulfur: (Astonished) Wait, what? You mean...
Dracia: Yeah, the one I've loved but could never approach, was you.
Sulfur: But... why?
Dracia: I mean, we've been such great friends for going on 20 years now. I guess, I didn't want to ruin that by making any rash declarations of affection.
(In this moment, Sulfur is caught dumbfounded. But as this happens, the two dragons look each other in the eyes, and each find love at the center of the stare, and before long can be found in a loving embrace, locked in a kiss, which neither wants to break, but eventually they do, staring back into the eyes of their soul mate as they do)
Dracia: I think that makes it official, wouldn't you?
Sulfur: I... definitely would.
Dracia: What do you say we go let the others know that we're... a thing. I can finish reading that journal later.
Sulfur: That would be an absolute delight.
(And with that, the two lovers leave the room, tails intertwined, as our tale ends for today)
This concludes Part III of the New Years Special. For the finale, head on over to Injustice Dragons Among Us 2. So that was a nice little scene. Fun fact, I actually kind of planned Sulfur and Dracia to end up together from the minute I heard about them, mostly because out of the first four of this generation Yami gave me, he's the only one she's not related to, as Freylini and Raygarro are her cousins. But he did make it clear to me that he loved her, while she never noticed. But I figured as 15 years went by, she would come to appreciate such a close friend, in a more affectionate way. Add to that that I envisioned Sulfur growing up to be incredibly handsome when compared to his awkward childhood, and everything worked out. Hope this works, Yami! Next time, we return to the Injustice Wars. So what awaits there? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
