Hello there! Sorry for the super late update. I have been stuck on how to get this chapter written. This is certainly not my best chapter, and I will edit it in the future, just right now, I want to proceed with the story. The main parts of what happens is in there, so even if it isn't the best, I hope you enjoy!
Death before birth
chapter 16
Ever since he was aware of his consciousness, Draco Malfoy was aware of three specific facts.
Fact one: Malfoy's are the best.
Fact two: His father was at the top in the wizarding society and he was at the top in Hogwarts.
Fact three: One day Draco Malfoy would be the richest and most influential person when he inherited the Malfoy and Black names.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, the three rules of his life were shattered upon the entrance of Harry James Potter and Sirius Orion Black. The boy-who-lived made him realize that he was not the most influential or most powerful in the school. That title resided with the resident idiot-who-wanted-to-die-but-failed-everytime. And his ex-convict cousin had taken back the Black name such that he knew he would never get it in this lifetime.
His father was now persona-non-grata, at least within their family circle. His mother had started taking over everything with a fierceness only a Black could have. He was still conflicted about whether it was for the best or not. Though he could say that he was getting more comfortable nowadays. Hell, he had even gotten drunk with Potter! His mind went over all the recent changes in his life, going from the first Black house tea to yesterday night's dinner.
Furious rage swirled in Draco's mind and heart. How dare that blood traitor convict come back and take away his inheritance? And how dare Potter again usurp him. It wasn't fair. He was Draco Malfoy for Merlin's sake! He was the heir to the Malfoy family fortune! He was the most powerful and most intelligent wizard of his generation.
Except that wasn't true, Granger was the most intelligent, and Potter was the most powerful. But it was supposed to be him! Not them! Ugh, he wanted to leave but no! They now had to suffer through tea with Potter, Black, that werewolf Lupin and his cousin, Astrid. Try as he might Draco couldn't find fault with her except that she supported Black. She was magically powerful, a potions prodigy, someone who had an exponential pull in various magical ministries, and someone who kept up the Black name. Speaking of, he wondered where his mother was and what she and Astrid were talking about. He sat at the table, his eyes not leaving his cup as an awkward silence ensued around the table. Soon enough his mother and Astrid came out, a distinctive coldness surrounding his mother, one which only surrounded her when she was upset. His spine stiffened in anger as his mind raced over what had happened to make his mother so upset.
He was pulled out of his memories by a commotion from the ground floor. Echoes of screams and enraged shouts reached him. Frowning in confusion, Draco walked downstairs. No, he didn't hurry, because Malfoy's did not hurry. He reached the living room where he saw a seething Astrid, a wand pointed at his father who was backed up against the wall.
Alarms blared in his mind, for even if he didn't exactly like his father right now, he was still his father, and seeing one of his fearsome relatives back him up while he was defenseless was very concerning. He held his hands up, showcasing he meant no harm, walked towards them cautiously.
"Astrid..." He started, at a loss. Unaware of how to approach the enraged witch.
"Get your mother." Astrid stated coldly.
"What happ-"
"Your mother Draco. Now." She stated as she dug her wand further into Lucius's throat.
He nodded tersely and turned to walk outside, but before he could, his mother walked in hurriedly.
"Astrid! What is the meaning of this?" Narcissa snapped as she got her wand out and pointed at her cousin.
"Nisi Masculinum."
The words caused confusion in the female and teen Malfoy while the male paled slightly, hardly noticeable to anyone but those who were trained to see.
"Excuse me?"
"It's an old spell. It kills any fetus which isn't male." Sirius's cold voice stated as he strode into the room his wand pointed at Lucius.
Remus stood behind Astrid and Sirius. His eyes glowing in anger. Harry too looked very queasy as he came and stood near Draco.
Cold numbness spread across Narcissa. Her impeccable pureblood mask slipping as her eyes began to water. Comprehension dawned on her. The sorrow of her past flooding her senses.
"No...no...That's not...No." She whispered horrified as she staggered back, her wand cluttering to the floor.
Spell, dead fetus, horror, fury. Spell, dead fetus, horror, fury. Spell, dead fetus, horror, fury. Spell, dead fetus, horror, fury. Spell, dead fetus, horror, fury.
The four words swam in Draco's head, making him lightheaded, the pieces beginning to fit. Bile rose in his throat, his head swimming in disgust. His thoughts went haywire, unwilling to accept what was being said right now.
His father...no...he can't...he can't be his father...can he? How can...How does...how did he even...how can someone who..who...who says they...that they love...that they love someone...do this...this horrible thing? How is...how can...if...if someone like...like that monster was...was his father...then..then what did...what did that say...about...about him? What if...what if...he too...what if he was...what if he too was a monster like...like that man? No...not a man...he isn't a man...he can't be a man...a monster...no even...even Voldermort was...was better...better than him.
A hand clasped around his forearm, bringing his focus back to the present. That's when he realized that his breath was coming out ragged, black spots swimming in his eyes.
"Draco! Draco, calm down!" Harry's urgent voice reached him. He shook his head trying to clear his thoughts. He focused back on the present and realized that his mother and Astrid had left the room. Sirius and Remus were holding his father at wand point.
"Draco, come on, let's go. Sirius and Remus will deal with him." Harry spoke trying to steer him outside. The blonde stared at the smaller boy, uncomprehending, his previous thoughts at the edges of his consciousness.
Slowly his thoughts caught up with him, as the buzzing decreased. Cold hot fury spread through him. Shrugging off his hand, he strode towards the man pinned against the wall. Pulling his hand back, he punched him in the face, Lucius's, he refused to call him father anymore, head spun to the side, blood dripping from the split lip.
Both the blonde's stared at each other, anger permeating both of their expressions.
"How dare you-" Lucius began.
"Yes, I dare." Draco sneered. "You are nothing but a pathetic piece of trash. The next time you come near me or my mother, I will kill you."
Rage clouded Lucius's eyes, his hand reached out to hit, or hold or do something to Draco, before he could, two wands pointed at him, Sirius and Remus, subtly pushed Draco behind them, not removing the wands from the man in front of them.
"Go to your mother Draco." Sirius ordered.
"But..." He started to argue. Harry tugged his arm, shaking his head to indicate not to instigate him now.
Once the teens left the room, Sirius dug his wand into his brother-in-law's throat. A shark-like grin appeared on his lips.
"Let's get down to business shall we dear brother?"
