Welcome back to The Injustice Wars! Last time, the fated meeting of six factions finally happened, as in a battle in Metropolis, the Legion, Insurgency, Society, Regime, Empire, and Republic finally, well, met up, resulting in the deaths of Poison Ivy, Bane, and seemingly Scarecrow. And in the end, Blaze was left quite curious regarding the strange Anubian that turned the tide of the battle, essentially vowing to figure out more about him. So how does that go? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes in Legion HQ, where everyone is either milling about trying to figure out what exactly just happened, or comforting Harley Quinn on the loss of her once close friend Poison Ivy. Well, everyone save Blaze and her closest, who are going over photos Batman's forces collected of the new faction they encountered, the Republic.)
Supergirl: If I'm being honest, I say this Republic is a group we should trust.
Flash: I'll speak for Plastic Man, since I know I saw him there. The rest I'm not sure about. Particularly Hawkgirl and Vandal Savage. (To Blaze) I'm sure you remember that Shayera was one of Superman's most loyal. And Vandal Savage? He was probably one of the biggest shadow threats the Justice League ever had to deal with. I'm honestly surprised it's taken him this long to surface since the Regime fell.
Deathstroke: Then again, how are we sure this "Republic" or whatever they called themselves is any better than the Regime? I mean, they straight up killed Bane!
Red Hood: I'd say it's about time someone finished him off. Who gives a damn if Bruce doesn't approve?
(Through all of the arguing, Blaze is still thinking, when she suddenly sighs about it all)
Blaze: I admit, I don't know much about the background characters of this faction. But their leader strikes me as interesting.
Flash: Vandal Savage?
Blaze: No, the other guy. What was his name? Belial?
Flash: I've got no data on that guy.
Catwoman: I've talked to Bruce, he doesn't know who that is either. This Belial is completely unknown to anyone in this universe.
Green Arrow: He did take on a form similar to Anubis when we met him. So it's possible Black Adam would know something if anyone does.
Cynder: Not like we'll be able to talk to him any time soon.
Blaze: Regardless, he and his faction saved our lives when we and the Insurgency were about to be wiped off the face of the earth. From that alone, I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Flash: I think that's certainly agreeable.
Blaze: Even still, I think we'd be better off if we had some assurance on the inside.
Supergirl: Put someone on the inside? Like we did with Black Manta?
Blaze: Not so much like Black Manta. I'm thinking we extend some of our membership as an olive branch, a sign of admittedly hesitant cooperation.
Shade: I think that sounds like a reasonable solution.
Blaze: That begs the question, who do we send in?
Red Hood: If you need a volunteer, I'm more than willing. This guy's methods have my seal of approval.
Blaze: Alright, Jason's got point.
(At this point, Vixen and Jay Garrick step up)
Vixen: You can count us in too.
Blaze: I can kind of get you going over, Mari. Your time working with Ra's al Ghul and all that. (To Jay Garrick) But why you, Jay?
Jay Garrick: If this guy was able to get Hawkgirl free from Superman's brainwashing, you can be darn sure I want to know how he did it. Maybe he can talk some sense into the rest of the Regime.
Blaze: Alright then. Jason, Mari, and Jay will go and get some information on this Republic and report back to us once they know anything.
Red Hood: Good plan.
Blaze: In any case, we need to get to cleaning up Metropolis. Bruce is going to be waiting for us.
(But as the group transitions out of their lair, all save Harley Quinn and a couple of her close gal pals, we transition to the museum Scarecrow was knocked into, and see him pulling himself out from the rubble, somehow having survived.)
Scarecrow: (Taking stock of his situation) How...? I should be dead!
(At this point, a faint glow can be seen coming from behind Scarecrow. Feeling the warmth of the light on his back, Scarecrow turns around and observes the source, a strange scepter, radiating a sort of mystic energy)
Scarecrow: That's odd... I've been to this museum plenty of times, and I've never seen that here.
(At this point, the scepter starts whispering, but only Scarecrow can hear, and in that moment, he seems to understand something)
Scarecrow: (Taking the scepter) Perhaps this is the beginning a beautiful friendship.
(As soon as Scarecrow grabs the scepter, we transition to, of all places, the Tower of Fate, where Doctor Fate is looking over everything, and senses something is up)
Doctor Fate: (Realizing exactly what Scarecrow is getting into) Crane, you fool. You have no idea what forces you're meddling with. This could spell the end...
(And as Doctor Fate looks on, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to end for today. So, Blaze has a plan to get some info on the inside of the Republic, and the three chosen agents make some degree of sense. Well, most of them. Vixen was kind of an oddball. I had her listed in my initial Legion roster, and when I asked Yami if he had the rosters for the three factions, he put Vixen on the Republic's roster. But perhaps more importantly, Scarecrow is actually alive somehow. Again. But what is this scepter he has? And why is Doctor Fate of all people interested in it? You know if Doctor Fate is interested, it's likely not going to end well at all. I'll say this, anyone who's read the previous Nullverse story I put up should know exactly where this scepter came from, and who it's supposed to mean. More on that as the story goes on. I'm excited to get around to that. So, what awaits as the factions continue to interact? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
