Disclaimer in Chapter 1
"Hmm, I wonder if rice balls would be okay?" Rei mused as she looked at the pantry.
It was a lazy Friday morning, and Rei was making breakfast. It was usually Naruto who cooked because he made delicious food, but Rei wanted to make something herself. It would be a pleasant surprise for him when he returned from training.
"Rice is nice, rice is nice~
Even better, with some spice~!" Rei giggled as she sang the goofy song.
It was something she had caught Naruto singing while he was cooking. It was very catchy for such a simple tune, and Rei had taken a liking to it. It was far better than Naruto's ramen anthem, in her opinion. That song was another ball game altogether. Rei was sure that the 'Ramenthem' was written in some ancient extinct tongue and composed by eldritch abominations from hell.
Rei was wearing an apron over her usual pajamas. It was also white in color and had the words 'Snow Angel' written in a name tag. Naruto had gotten it for her because of their inside joke, and it was fitting. She loved it as well and often wore it when she cooked.
"I'll make some tea too." Rei began to reach for the tea box, which was at the top of the shelf. She found that she couldn't quite reach it, even though she was a fairly tall woman.
"Just a little- drat!" She glared at the tea as it remained out of reach. Even standing on her tiptoes wasn't enough to grab it. "Why are you so high up!" She pouted.
Rei started jumping and flailing her arms about in an effort to get the box, to no avail. She had half a mind to create a block of ice as a step stool, but it ultimately proved unnecessary.
"Meep!"
Rei's eyes widened in shock as she was suddenly picked up by the waist. She instantly knew that it was her husband, so she wasn't alarmed. Naruto always held her so tenderly and with such love and care, like she was the most important person in his life. Even now, Rei was gently hoisted up by Naruto's strong arms, wrapped gently around her waist. She could see him behind her in the cabinet glass, grinning brightly at her. But still, she was surprised.
Also, the house was so heavily barricaded with seals that any intruder except the two of them would be paralyzed before they could say, 'I'm home.'
"Wh-what? Naruto-kun?" She stuttered with pink cheeks.
Naruto's grin widened, and he just lifted her up higher. "I saw you were trying to reach the tea, so I thought I'd help!"
Rei smiled at the response. "Such a gentleman, dear. But why not grab it yourself?"
"This way gives me an excuse to hug you, ya know?" Naruto wiggled his eyebrows. "I can hug you, right?" He teased.
"Yes, but it was just sudden," Rei muttered, still being lifted by the waist. She then grabbed the tea box but still was up in the air. "I got the tea, Naruto. You can put me down now." She kicked her legs childishly.
"Aww, do I have to? I like hugging you!"
"Y-yes." Rei looked away, "You cuddle with me whenever we have time. Don't you get enough?"
Naruto looked positively affronted at this. "Eh? Of course, I don't! I could never get enough of you~."
Rei blushed pink at this, even though she expected such a response. Her husband was an extremely caring man and never hesitated to show her that she was loved and cherished by him. If there was a contest for 'happiest marriage', Rei was sure they'd win it by a landslide.
"It's embarrassing, and I have to make breakfast!" She wiggled in his embrace.
"Well, if you insist.." Naruto muttered sadly as if letting her down was something of great difficulty.
"I do!"
"I do! There, you married me, no take-backs!" Naruto released her and gave her a thumbs up.
Rei deadpanned at him. "We're already married, Naruto. Saying 'I do' again doesn't do anything new."
"Of course it does, ya know! We're married twice now!" Naruto nodded triumphantly while holding up two fingers.
Rei just sweatdropped. "That's not how the law works, dear."
"Doesn't matter! Where there is a will, there is a way!"
Rei just shook her head in amusement. "Hai, hai, go sit there while I cook." She shooed him away. With him seated, she tied her hair behind her and set to work.
After five minutes, Rei was starting to get uneasy with the silence in the room. She thought that Naruto might have left, but one glance told her that he was just staring at the ceiling, deep in thought. Deciding to break the silence, she spoke.
"So, what did you do for training today?"
Naruto looked at her. "Oh, nothing, my standard training, with a hundred extra clones working on the Hiraishin." He crossed his arms behind his head, leaning back in his chair.
Rei raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? Did you finally master it?" Naruto had reverse-engineered his father's signature technique with the help of Kurama and his talents in the sealing arts. He also had a Hiraishin kunai father gave him in the war, so it was easier for him.
"Yes, It's mostly ready for use; I just need to practice using it in combat." Naruto could flash to any kunai or marker now and even transport other people with him. He was just getting the hang of teleporting to multiple marks in quick succession. Only then would the jutsu truly become battle-ready.
"Hmm, okay." Rei said as she finished making breakfast.
They sat down to eat, and Rei felt something poke her cheek. She turned to find Naruto, who was holding a rice ball near her face.
"Say aah~."
Rei blushed as she tenderly nibbled on the offered ball. It was a daily occurrence for Naruto and her to feed each other, but it still made her giddy all the same.
"Mmm, this is delicious, Rei!" Naruto praised as he finished a rice ball, "Anything you make is delicious, but this is even more so!"
Rei grinned. "Of course! I always make the best food!"
"Yep! Best girl makes the best food, believe it!" Naruto pumped a fist in the air.
Rei's haughtiness bled right out of her, and she turned a deep pink. She could never win against him in teasing each other; he was the prankster king after all.
"You know what, I'm going to stick around this time. The great Kyuubi is not scared of two blushing and bumbling idiots!" Kurama boasted in Naruto's mind. He always cut their link when Naruto and Rei started acting all cutesy, but he was the Kyuubi no Kitsune. He wasn't scared of mushy talk, and he was going to prove it.
The cuteness was about to escalate, and Kurama would endure.
It would be weeks before Kurama would recover from his embarrassment enough to contact Naruto again.
"Naruto, what do we have to do today?" Rei inquired. They were sitting in their agency office, and it was a relatively slow day.
Naruto hummed as he looked over the day's cases. "We have a meeting with All Might and Gran Torino. Nothing else today."
"Oh, I see." Rei nodded, "Hand me those files, please."
Naruto did so, and they settled into a comfortable rhythm. It helped that there were only the two of them and some interns present in the agency. Even work didn't feel like work when they were together.
"EAT THIS!"
"No."
"EAT IT!"
"Absolutely not."
"... please eat it?"
Naruto sighed as he looked at the hair held in front of him by a jumpy All Might. "Why do you want me to have it anyway, Toshi? You're not even thirty!" he shouted, eyes twitching.
All Might shuffled nervously, an action entirely unbefitting of the No.1 Hero. Rei looked amused at this interaction, hiding her smile behind her kimono sleeve.
"Don't you see?" All Might whispered urgently, "If you eat it, he won't train me anymore!" he finished, looking around the room warily. He was wearing a black blazer with a white dress shirt and formal black trousers. It looked quite funny in contrast to his heavily muscled form. "I'll finally be free!"
"But what about your hero duties?"
All Might started laughing triumphantly. "HAHA! It is simple, friend! Once I have escaped from him, you can simply return One For All to me!" Then he paused. "Unless you decided to-"
"No." Naruto cut him off by raising a hand, "I am stronger than you anyway; I have no need for it. Someone else might make better use of your Quirk."
"I still don't understand why you choose to remain at third place."
Naruto went still as his mind flashed back to a raven-haired boy with black eyes. "Because you were already renowned as the Symbol of Peace when I arrived. I will support you in keeping order, but I need to trust in my comrades." Naruto gazed at Toshinori with determination, "I should not try to take on everything alone. I'll only fail if I do that." Naruto also could do without the attention being No.1 brought as he didn't want Endeavor to be obsessed with him. All Might needed someone to back him up and support him too.
Rei squeezed his hand in a show of support, which made him smile in gratitude. He then angrily looked at All Might with a tick mark on his forehead. "And I'm not some kind of Quirk battery, ya know! You can't just give it to me to escape training!"
All Might fidgeted in place, an action very out of place for a man of his size. "Bu-but-"
"Honestly, Toshi," Naruto said, "You're too scared of Gran Torino. He doesn't want to hurt you."
"Say that after you attend his 'Bootcamp of death'!" All Might glared at him, which looked disturbing in conjunction with his perpetual grin. "You don't know the horror-"
"What did you say, Toshinori?"
All Might's eyes widened at the voice as he started trembling violently. The hair in his hand fell to the floor, to be covertly destroyed by Naruto. He didn't need any accidents.
"S-s-sensei!" All Might stuttered, terrified. "I was just telling him about the horror of molten ice cream! Ah ha ha! Yes, that was it!" He laughed nervously, hoping to be let off.
Gran Torino's eyes narrowed. "Hmm."
All Might's teeth started chattering, bracing for whatever was to come. Luckily, he was saved as Torino changed the subject. "Naruto, let us get to business. Any news?"
At the mention of news, the occupants of the room got serious. Naruto just shook his head somberly. "No. I've got a few clones all over the place, but I still don't have leads."
"All for One is clever. He won't be found so easily."
"I agree. Keep at it, Naruto." Sorahiko nodded. The four of them discussed recent developments in the criminal underworld and prominent issues for the rest of their meeting. It was important for heroes to be aware of threats to world peace.
"That was all we are here for, is there anything you require of us?"
Naruto hummed in thought but couldn't come up with anything. Just before he could speak, Rei interrupted him.
"Have you spoken to him?"
All Might slumped at the question, no doubt knowing exactly whom Rei was referring to. He gave a weary glance to Sorahiko, who appeared just as perturbed. "No, and I cannot. She told me not to." he said with great difficulty.
Rei wasn't deterred. "But Kotaro is her son, and you need to at least reconcile with him!" She felt really strongly about the matter ever since she'd heard about Nana's son. She was a pacifist by nature like Naruto and just wanted everyone to get along and make friends. The thought of not speaking to estranged family did not feel right to her.
"It's not that easy, Rei." Sorahiko interrupted, albeit weakly, "She had told us not to contact him." He, too, wanted nothing more than ensuring Kotaro's well-being, but his hands were tied.
Rei was about to speak up when Naruto began. "Did you promise her, or did she just request you?"
All Might looked quizzically at Naruto, while Rei just gained an understanding look in her eyes. "What difference does that make?"
Naruto just slammed his hands on the table and got up, startling the other occupants. "It makes all the difference! If you gave her your word, then that's another matter, and you should respect it." He glared at them, "But if you just agreed to her request, it's different. Kotaro needs closure; you need to reconcile with him!"
While Toshinori mulled over those words, Naruto pressed on with a sigh. "I was the one who found him, ya know?" He ran a hand wearily through his hair, "He has a profound hatred of heroes, and it's only going to get worse." He then looked at the two Heroes with a solemn, cold stare, making them stiffen, "And no one knows what festering hatred can do as much as I."
"Hmph. I knew we should have killed that Uchiha scum when we had the chance." Kurama snarled in his mind, "He brought about nothing but pain and death."
"He gave up his life for mine, Kurama. He had changed." Naruto replied seriously, making the fox scoff in denial.
Toshinori cut in again. "Does he have any family?"
"Nope, he lives alone. All the more reason to make a move as soon as possible!"
Sorahiko looked fit to refuse, but All Might, the ever idealist man, spoke first. "Do you truly believe so?" The hope in his eyes was almost tangible, and Naruto reinforced it as always with a grin and a thumbs up.
"Yep! He's your family, ya know! And when people close to you are being all broody, you convince them to snap out of it. And if they refuse, kick their ass until they agree!"
Everyone sweatdropped at his words. "You know, scratch that. I totally understand why the Uchiha ran from you." Kurama chimed in. He remembered Naruto swearing to bring back Sasuke, even if he had to break every bone in his body. "You're yandere for Sasuke." Kurama nodded sagely. Now he understood Naruto's obsession with Indra's transmigrant.
Naruto had to utilize his considerable shinobi training to resist blushing and sputtering like a moron in front of his audience. "That's it! I'm beating you up!"
"Oh, then will you drag me back to the village and spend the rest of your life being my friend? Or brother?" Kurama wiggled his eyebrows.
Naruto gave a tiny flinch, which only Rei caught. "Sh-shut up! Now is not the time, ya know!"
Toshinori looked deep in thought at this. Truthfully, he wanted nothing more than to reach out to his teacher's son, the last remaining link to her. And now, he had little reason not to. Naruto had told him that Kotaro hated heroes, but Toshinori was sure he could convince him otherwise. He was sure that there was still good in Kotaro's heart, and he would draw it out.
Steeling his mind, Toshinori nodded. "I agree. I will try to connect with him; he is family after all." He held up a hand to interrupt Sorahiko's retort. "As for All for One, I will ensure that Kotaro is safe. Even at the cost of my life." He finished with his determined grin.
"That's more like it!" Naruto praised and gave a bag to Toshinori. At his questioning glance, Naruto continued. "These are some Hiraishin kunai. They allow me to teleport to them instantly. So you each take one and give one to Kotaro once you make friends!" Hiraishin was the ultimate Jutsu for backup and protection, in his opinion. And if All Might trusted Kotaro, Naruto would as well.
Sorahiko's eyes widened at the description. "I did not know you had such a technique."
"Ha! I have lots more, old man!" Naruto boasted, making Sorahiko's eye twitch. "I may be the No.3 Hero, but I'm the No.1 Ninja, believe it!"
Gran Torino still looked apprehensive but relented. "Very well." For all he knew, this might turn out for the best. One small act of kindness could even change the world.
"Oh, and invite me over when he warms up, Toshi! We'll make a day of it!"
All Might laughed loudly, striking his pose. "Do not worry, Young Naruto!-"
"I'm only a few years younger than you."
"- I shall make sure of it!" All Might finished, ignoring Naruto's deadpan.
Serious matters out of the way, the four made casual conversation till the visiting heroes had to leave.
"So, I saw you give a couple of flinches back then. What was that about?" Rei inquired. She had seen Naruto's eyes go glossy and him staring off into the distance, which was a sign of a talk with Kurama.
Naruto actually blushed at that, which made Rei even more curious. "It's the stupid fox! He thinks I was yandere for Sasuke." He scoffed but then got alarmed as Rei didn't defend him. "He's wrong, right? I'm not, right?" Naruto asked meekly with wide eyes.
Rei smirked inwardly before she adopted a thinking pose. "Hmm, you were pretty obsessed with him… And you swore to bring him home no matter what."
It was at this moment when Kurama cheekily played some very out-of-context memories.
"If you attack Konoha, I will have to fight you… So save up your hatred and take it all out on me. I'm the only one who can take it! It's the only thing I can do! I will shoulder your hatred and die with you! Because I'm your friend!"
"The pain of being alone is completely out of this world, isn't it? I don't know why, but I understand your feelings so much that it actually hurts!"
"Yeah… Anyways, how could I, who could not even save a single friend, become Hokage?"
"Sometimes, I miss you so much! I can hardly stand it!"
Rei started giggling when Naruto went red and started steaming from the ears. She deduced that Kurama must've shown him some embarrassing moments.
"Wh-what the hell is that, stupid fox!" Naruto glared and tried to punch something, only to find nothing to punch. He just settled for pouting adorably with an atomic blush.
"Heh. It seems like someone is in denial." Kurama jabbed with a smirk.
"Oh yeah, and what about you!" Naruto snapped, pointing a finger at the fox in his mind, "You dare call me a yandere when you're such a tsundere yourself!"
Kurama sputtered at the taunt, glad that Rei wasn't inside Naruto's mind. "What an outrageous accusation!" He huffed.
Naruto gave a positively vulpine grin, which unnerved the fox quite a bit. He then put his hands in a familiar hand seal and went up in a puff of smoke. What emerged was something Kurama would never forget.
Naruto had transformed into a Kyuubi, much like Kurama. Only this Kyuubi was significantly... cuter. He had long eyelashes and perpetual blush stains on his cheeks. Even his tails were softer and fluffier than Kurama's own.
Naru-bi sat on his hind legs and shyly poked his fingers together. "I-I-it's not like I want to give you m-my chakra or anything, I-idiot!" He stuttered, "I just don't want to be controlled by M-Madara, and you're the better choice. Hmph!" He sniffed, averting his eyes with a red blush.
Kurama watched with a slacked jaw. "That did not happen, fool!" He roared, enraged.
But Naru-bi wasn't done. He buried his face in his paws and spoke in a meek voice- "We-we don't need to play chakra tug-of-war this time, loser!" He meeped in a timid voice, "It's only just this once, so d-don't get any ideas, okay!"
Then Naru-bi got tears in his eyes as he spoke in a heated tone. "If you really want to prove yourself to us, do it through your actions!" He shouted dramatically with tears in his eyes. "It's not like I like being sealed inside you or anything, I-idiot!"
"NARUTO!" Kurama bellowed as he pounced on Naru-bi, tails swaying menacingly behind him.
In a puff of smoke, a glaring Naruto-reappeared. "That's what you get, furball! I'm gonna kick your ass, believe it!" And he, too, jumped into the fray.
In the real world, seconds had passed when a smiling Naruto returned to his senses. "Serves ya right, stupid fox." he nodded triumphantly.
"Had a fight again?" Rei asked amusedly.
"Yeah. We've come to an understanding." Naruto grinned, making her giggle.
Naruto was woken up by a frazzled Rei. Seeing her so distraught immediately snapped Naruto out of his sleep. He leaped out of bed and immediately went beside her.
"What happened, Rei? Are you alright?" He asked worriedly while holding her hand. Naruto could never bear to see his wife under any stress, so he was at a loss.
Rei just smiled at his thoughtful response. Even though she wasn't in any trouble, she was a tad rattled by the news she had received. Just seeing Naruto try to comfort her merely after seeing her expression helped alleviate most of her worries. "Nothing bad, Naruto. I just have some news."
Naruto was getting even antsier. "Well, don't keep me waiting, ya know!"
Rei clasped his hand in between hers, took a deep breath, and spoke. "I'm pregnant. We're going to be parents!" She couldn't keep the grin off her face by the end of the sentence; she was that happy.
One look at Naruto told her all she needed to know. Naruto was frozen in place, staring off into the distance with wide eyes. One might be worried about his reaction, but not Rei. They had discussed this topic at length, and they both equally wanted to start a family. But for someone like Naruto, who had no blood family of his own, such news was incredibly jarring. He just needed some time to process it, and Rei would oblige. She just held his hand as Naruto mulled over this new information.
As Rei predicted, Naruto was stunned. Incredibly so. He'd never had a family of his own, in the conventional sense of the word. When he was a child, all he wanted was a family. A parent to train with, a parent who would comfort him and tell him that he was loved, a sibling he could prank and play with.
And for the most part, Naruto had achieved this dream. He was married to the most beautiful woman on the planet, and they were very much in love with each other. They supported each other and made each other strive to be better people. He loved Rei with all that he was, and he could not have asked for a better life partner.
But this? This news was just as, if not more exhilarating. Naruto was going to be a father. He was going to be a father to a young boy or girl, his child. Someone he would shower with unconditional love, the kind he was never allowed the luxury to experience. And it was all because of the wonderful woman holding his hand.
Rei was not at all surprised when she was captured in a warm embrace. She looked at Naruto, who had buried his head in the crook of her neck. She was about to ask him about his thoughts when she felt something cool on her shoulder. She idly realized that they were tears. 'He's crying, but these are happy tears.' Rei smiled softly and gave a kiss to the top of his head. "There, there. Let it out, sweetie. I'm here."
Naruto just trembled a bit and let out a few hiccups. "Thank you, thank you, thank you…" He repeatedly muttered as he clutched Rei tighter, not wanting to let go for even a second.
His wife just sat there with him in her arms, softly stroking his hair and whispering words of comfort and assurance which he so desperately needed.
They were going to be the best parents in the future, without a doubt.
A/N- Why does the fluff end up in feels?
Some character ages might be different. Since they are in no hurry to have kids, there might be an age gap, Natsuo might not fit in. No promises. It's all really confusing in the wiki.
