A few days later Stiles is visiting Allison in her new home, a apartment in a huge building in the better area of Beacon Hills. His reason for visiting, besides spending some time with his girlfriend, with whom things have been a little shaky after she learned why her mother died was to warn her of the alphas and ask her to keep her nose out of it for as long as possible.
When he leaves however, he meets a blind man in the elevator, at first not thinking any of it until the man says "Hello Stiles, how is the young hunter doing?"
"Who are you?" Stiles asks shocked by the question.
"I think you know already, but to avoid any confusion, I'm Deucalion." He replies, glowing his dim eyes red.
"What… What do you want and what are you doing here?" Stiles asks fearfully.
"I live here of course, the neighbors are surprisingly accepting and as for what I want, I want you to deliver an invitation to Scott McCall." Deucalion says just before the elevator reaches the ground level and Stiles gets off, immediately calling Scott, asking him to meet him at Derek's.
A quarter hour later – Derek's loft
"So what was so urgent Stiles?" Scott asks, sliding the door open and seeing Stiles stand in front of a table chewing on his nails with Derek, Cora, Peter and Boyd standing at the table, looking through some blueprints.
"Well I had a run in with your alpha-pal Deucalion." Stiles says freaking out.
"What? Where?" Scott asks surprised.
"In Allison's building, they are staying in the floor above her, isn't that nice." Stiles says sarcastically.
"Did he do something?" Scott asks, checking his friend for injuries.
"No, he just wanted me to extend an invitation towards you." Stiles replies.
"Invitation?" Scott questions.
"He wants both of us to join his pack." Derek answers the unanswered question racing through Scott's head.
"Why?" Scott asks.
"To become even more powerful, what other reason do you think he has?" Peter tells Scott.
"And what are you all doing here?" Scott asks the group around the table.
"Isn't it obvious, the schemers are scheming. We're planning a preemptive strike." Peter tells him, pointing at the blueprint.
"That's the plan? Attack first? Why can't anyone ever suggest a plan that doesn't rely on killing?" Scott asks annoyed.
"You never get tired of being so blindly moral do you? Not that I disagree with you on this occasion." Peter says.
"Why do we need this kid?" Cora asks annoyed.
"This kid helped save your life, not to mention he's the only one who stands a chance to survive against Deucalion on his own." Derek tells his sister.
"Right, how are you even going to beat a pack of alphas?" Scott asks the four.
"We can't, that's why we are only going after Deucalion." Cora says.
"You cut off the head of the snake the body dies." Boyd agrees.
"Unless it's a hydra situation and two more grow in its place." Scott says.
"Oh, someone has done his summer reading." Peter remarks.
"So, you in?" Derek asks Scott.
"I don't know yet. It's just a stupid plan." Scott tells the group directly.
"I agree, but do you see any other way?" Stiles chimes in from his spot next to Scott.
"Maybe. I'll let you know if I'm going to join your suicide mission." Scott tells them and leaves the loft, heading to Allison's building and leaves a card for Deucalion in his mail, asking him to meet Scott alone in the abandoned mall in Beacon Hills the next night. After this is done Scott heads over to Lydia's to inform her of recent developments.
|shortly after – Martin residence|
"What do you mean you're going to talk to Deucalion face to face?" Lydia screams at Scott.
"Just what I said. He has something planned, and I doubt that it's just asking me and Derek to join his pack and I need to try to find out what it is." Scott explains.
"Scott. Are you trying to make me angry?" Lydia asks him with a frown on his face.
"Lydia, I'm going to do this, for everyone's sake. I saw Deucalion before, he is not a impulsive man and if we make the wrong move even I can't protect you or the others from a pack of alphas." Scott says, staring in Lydia's eyes unwavering.
"Ah, I give up. I know you can be even more stubborn than me. Just promise that you're not going to leave." She tells him.
"Never." He replies, giving her a kiss on her forehead.
|The next night – abandoned mall|
Scott and Isaac, who knew something was up with Scott drive to the building on Scott's motorcycle.
"You didn't come alone." Deucalion says, looking down at Isaac and Scott from his spot on the stairs leading to the upper floor.
"Yeah, this is Isaac." Scott replies.
"I'm not talking about Isaac." Deucalion says and Derek shows himself, walking out of the shadows with Boyd and Cora.
"You found out I was doing this? Derek get out of here now and I might find a way so no one else dies." Scott warns the alpha he considers a friend.
"Him, just him." the already transformed Derek says, shaking his head and points at Deucalion.
"Just me? Now how does a blind man find his way in here all on his own?" Deucalion asks and his pack of alphas appear, circling around the two groups.
"Deucalion, stop this now. We can still just talk things through. It doesn't have to come to this." Scott says.
"Sorry Scott, but your friend, seems to have a different opinion." Deucalion says, nodding towards Derek, who's readying himself to attack, snarling at Ennis, who is closest to him.
"Derek, don't!" Scott shouts but Derek already runs towards the bulky alpha, attacking him ferociously.
Cora and Boyd take this as the signal to attack Kali and engage her in a fight, only slowing her down and buying Derek some time.
Scott is about to go to Derek when the twins drop down form the upper level, landing behind him and Isaac in their combined form, knocking both teens away in opposite directions.
Scott gets up, transforming into his standard state of beak, feathers and glowing Talons and screeches at the combined mass of alpha currently closing in on his friend.
The twins drop Isaac from their hold, making him gasp for air after having been choked by them. After dropping Isaac the twins charge at Scott with Deucalion watching their fight curiously.
The twins throw themselves against Scott, tackling him into the wall behind him, forming an enormous dent from the impact. Scott coughs out some blood before shaking his head and dodging the double handed punch aimed down at him. He flips to the side and jumps against a support beam in the room, using it as a jump of point and soars towards the twins, returning the favor and uses a lariat to knock the tall alpha down, who lands on his back, holding his throat, but Scott is immediately on them and stabs one of his hands into the alpha's shoulder, making him howl out in pain while Scott drains their power. At this Deucalion, having gained insight on how alphas can gain more power through killing others steps in, howling loudly, causing everyone to stop their fighting while he, slowly walks down the stairs his skin blackening and his eyes growing redder until he lets out another bone shaking howl.
"Scott, seeing that Deucalion is eyeing him gets off the twins, throwing them against a wall violently, by grabbing a leg and throwing the combined alpha mass, causing them to separate just before hitting the wall.
"Scott, Scott, Scott. My interest in you wasn't misplaced. I can feel the power running through your body. If only I were born with your powers, who knows I might have stopped at killing my old pack." Deucalion says in his darker voice while calmly walking over to the were-eagle.
"Deucalion, we don't have to…" Scott says but Deucalion reached him and punches him across his face, causing Scott to land on the other side of the mall, sliding against a beam which bends from the impact.
Isaac, who regained his footing is about to jump at Deucalion when Scott yells "Isaac don't!" glaring at the teen who was about to die, not realizing the danger he is in.
While Deucalion is attacking Scott Derek got double teamed by Kali and Ennis, who simply brush aside his sister and his beta, who pose no threat to them.
Deucalion, reaching Scott, who is leaning against the beam he got flung against picks him up in a choke hold and turns to Derek.
"Now that the biggest threat is contained, Derek. Kill your beta or Kali will kill your sister. Choose, family or pack?" Deucalion tells Derek while Kali steps on his sisters' throat and Ennis holds Boyd's neck in a strong grip.
"Deucalion, look at him, he's an alpha? To what? A couple useless teenagers?" Kali taunts Derek.
"Everyone has their own worth." Deucalion says, looking back at his underling, something Scott uses to stab Deucalion in the wrist he was holding him up with, absorbing some of his power before ripping his Talons out of the man's skin, falling to the floor with his wings sprouting on his back and this Bird feet forming under him, turning black instead of the usual orange.
"Ahh!" Scott screeches out, the sclera of his eyes turning black instead of their usual white.
"Oh, look's like I have found my way in." Deucalion says, seeing the teen's reaction to his power and grabs Scott's talons, stabbing himself in the same spot and holding the glowing Talons there, despite Scott struggling against the hold as he tries to reclaim his hand to no avail.
When Deucalion feels that the teen has absorbed a third of his power, already knowing that it will come back soon enough and that Scott only absorbs the abilities the individual brings with himself he lets go of Scott's hand and gets close to his ear with Scott having fallen quiet and kneeling down on the floor.
"Scott, don't you think Derek was wrong to follow you? Kill him, Kill him and take his power." Deucalion tells him and Scott screeches out loudly, heading toward the unsuspecting Derek, who looks at him fearfully as Scott tackles Derek over, who just freed Boyd from Ennis's hold. Ennis starts to attack the two and Deucalion watches the scene with amusement. Scott landing on top of Derek, rears his hand back to claw at the man, only for Ennis to grip the hand and fling Scott off of Derek, making him land on all fours, slowing down by scratching up the floor.
"He is mine." Ennis growls but Scott doesn't reply and only flaps his wings a couple times, lifting himself in the air and flying to the upper floor, where he breaks off a huge chunk of the roof and throws it at the two alpha's below him, intending to crush them.
"Scott, what are you doing?" Derek asks confused and sees the black in his eyes, having seen it from Peter before.
"Crap." He says, dodging the teen who flies down at him in shocking speed, his Talon's piercing through the ground he was standing on.
Ennis tries to attack Scott but gets hit across the face by a Kanima tail sprouting out of Scott's tailbone.
"What the fuck is this freak?" Ennis growls, getting angry and tries to slash at Scott, only to get punched across the face, making him land next to Derek. Kali who saw her lover get attacked, left Cora and sprints towards Scott, jumping on his back and clawing into his shoulder, right where his wings sprout from, making him scream out in pain.
Scott knocks her off with his tail and grabs the woman by her foot before flying upwards with her trying to free herself to no avail and Scott drops her from a couple meters height, causing her to land on the floor with a sickening crunch, one of her legs having been broken from the impact.
Scott looks back to Derek and Ennis, only to see the two men struggling with each other and fall down into the hole, leading to a lower floor and land on the stairs unmoving.
This scene along with the searing pain in his back is enough to snap Scott back to normal and he quickly tells Isaac, Cora and Boyd to flee.
The three take off and Scott rides home with Isaac.
"What happened back there?" Isaac asks Scott.
"Deucalion, he used my powers against me." Scott says shocked, looking at his human hands.
"What, how?" Isaac asks.
"He made me absorb more power than I could handle, I was like Peter. Drunk on power and driven insane by it." Scott says fearful.
"Come on what's done is done and you're back to normal now. We are going on the school trip tomorrow and you need to heal up so get some sleep." Isaac tells his best friend, opening the door for them.
