JENNIE
I pushed into Lego's room and I had to bite down on my bottom lip to push back his sob. Lego was on his bed, his glasses on as he tried to wipe his tears underneath it with his fingers.
"Sweety..."
"Miemiee.."
I got on the bed and pulled Lego next to me and pressed kisses to his hair. I gently pulled off Lego's glasses and placed it beside me. I cups his face.
"Sweety... I love you."
"Do you really, Miemie? Because dada used to say the same thing to me?"
"No, love. I love you. I adore you and I will for a long time. I will until I die. Even after I die, I will keep loving you and watching over you." I promised, using my thumb to wipe his face. I don't even notice I, myself, was already tearing up.
"You're crying, Miemie."
"Really?" I asked and sniffed. Lego reached out for my face and wiped my tears with his fingers. I grabbed onto them and pressed kisses to it.
"I love you so much! I am never going to leave you. To leave your brothers and sister behind. I love you all too much to. You are my children, you are a part of me."
"I am also a part of Dada too."
"Your Dada is going through some things but that doesn't mean she doesn't love you. She just doesn't know how to say it."
"Are you going to stay with her? You're not gonna get divorced like Stacey's parents?"
Stacey was one of Lego's classmates. Her parents divorce had been messy and loud and had also involved screaming matches at the school. I remembers trying to explain the meaning of divorce to Lego and Lily. Back then I never knew I was going to get to this point. To a point where divorce was an option in my marriage to Lisa.
"I don't know, Lego."
"You told me parents break up when they don't love each other again. Is that what you're gonna do with dada? Do you still love dada?"
I looks into my son's big blue eyes as I spoke. "I love your dada with my heart, my soul and every atom of my being." but I don't know if she feels the same is hanging in the air between us.
"I don't like the way she treats you."
"What do you know about the way she treats me?"
"You're always alone at night and the other day she kissed someone who wasn't you."
Kuma was actually right. They had all seen it.
"I don't know what to tell you, Lego. I don't even know how to explain it to myself even but I won't do anything without the interest of all four of you." I said, tears threatening to spill.
"I wanna go with you. Stacey has to stay with her Mum and she doesn't like her. But I like you. I love you. Don't make me go with dada."
"Baby... shhh..." I cried and pulled Lego much closer. He hugged me so tightly. I tried to say something but I couldn't. There's a possibility that Lisa would get the kids if they do get divorced.
"It's gonna be alright. We are going to be alright."
We stay like that for a while until Lego was calm. The wheels in my head began to roll as I thinks of something to do. I bit my lip and decides to send my CV to different companies.
"Why don't you go wash up? I made sandwiches and you can get ice cream."
Lego nods but doesn't pull away instantly. He takes him a couple of minutes before he moves.
"You don't need to bribe me with ice cream."
"Yet I don't hear you saying no, thanks mommy."
"Who says no to ice cream." Lego says with a small wobbly smile.
I gives Lego the room. I made my way down the stairs and headed straight to the kitchen where Kuma was feeding Luca, Rosé on the stool beside him.
"Did you cry?" Rosé asked me immediately I walked into the kitchen.
"I had a talk with Lego." Was all I said.
"Well, shit."
"I need to send my CV to different places. I want to try different publishing houses, maybe a couple of schools too."
"Why not send it to my publishing house? They're currently looking for a head editor. All you have to do is read a couple of scripts and correct it." Rosé said, leaning forward so she could test her hands on the kitchen counter.
"Can I really do that?" I asked, my eyes a bit wide with hope.
"Sure. Why don't you send it now and I'll make a couple of calls later."
"Thank you, Rosé"
"You don't need to thank me. You are my best friend, I'd do anything for you and I know you'll do the same." Rosé said and it was true. Heck, it was even I who had advised her on what publishing house she should choose when she was approached by many. We had each other's backs.
"Kuma, would it be okay with you if I get a job?"
"Of course it is. Why did you even ask me?" He asked.
"Because things might change from here on out and I want you to be alright with whatever I do."
"You have my support, Mom."
Rosé squealed and clapped her hands. "This is great. You can even work from home too but you have to come for meetings at the end of each month so they can review your works and all."
"Rosé would you watch the kids while I send the mail?"
"Sure thing, wifey"
"Never call me that."
"Don't call Mom that."
Rosé looked at me then and Kuma before rolling her eyes dramatically. She shakes her head and gestures for me to leave the kitchen. I made my way back up the stairs to my room. I don't focus on anything and just headed for my computer. I already had a saved copy of my CV on my laptop. I sends it to MBC Publishing.
When I got back downstairs, I finds everyone in the living room, munching on their sandwiches and salad.
"Mom, can we have Thai food for dinner?"
"I was just about ready to make dinner."
"Please." All three children choruses, Rosé and Luca even joining in even if Luca's please sounded more like peas. I couldn't say no to my children. It's the first thing we've asked for since Sunday and if it would make them happy and take their minds off things, then I'd order Thai food for dinner.
There was still time to order, so after agreeing. We all settle down to watch an episode of The Adventures of Gumball, then Ben 10. Luca was nestled against me, his thumb in his mouth as he watched the tv shows, sometimes smiling around his thumb.
"You okay, wifey?"
"Rosé..." I earned, peeping over at Kuma who was tapping at the screen of his phone.
"Are you okay though?"
"As alright as I can be."
"Good. You'll rest a bit by not making dinner this evening. I'd have made dinner instead but you know I hate cooking and I don't even know how to cook."
"Trust me, Rosé. I know." I said and then chuckled. "Do you remember the time you wanted to cook for us during our second year at Uni?"
"Yeah! I literally burnt down the kitchen. The wall behind the stove was black and everything smelt like barbecue."
"Remember the landlord's face when he saw it?"
Rosé burst out laughing. "His entire face turned red and his nose was flaring so bad that you could see up it."
