Jane paces back and forth across the floor of the precinct, wearing the soles of her shoes down. Frost's fingers fly across the keyboard while he stares intently at his computer screen, completely immersed. He zooms in and out of the grid maps as he checks traffic camera footage.

"Got her. Jane!", he says as he slams a fist down against the desk in victory. The Gundam action figure on his desk wobbles slightly under the force of his hand. Jane stares at the projector screen ahead of them, preparing herself for whatever Frost has found. He pulls up traffic camera footage and Maura's beauty is not hindered by the graininess of its quality. She watches as Maura crosses the intersection, the sun visor blocking half of Maura's face. Even without the top half of her face showing, Jane recognizes the woman. Frost pulls more footage, which shows different angles of Maura's black Mercedes moving across town. The other shots are of Maura's car from behind and Jane suddenly misses being able to see Maura's face. The footage stops right before Maura enters the highway and Frost turns to Jane, frowning.

"I'm sorry, Jane. That's all I could pull. She was last seen going eastbound on I-90. I can't tell which exit she took and her license plate isn't seen on any of the other local traffic cams," he says gravely.

Jane nods and says, "Thanks, Frost. At least we got something." She goes back to her desk, studying the map until the lines blur together and a headache threatens to form behind her eyes.

"Yeah. You should get some rest, Jane. It's been 30 hours. We are all running on fumes," Frost says. "Take a small nap and come back with a fresh set of eyes."

Jane waves him off, saying, "I'll sleep when Maura's back. I can't fall asleep under these circumstances anyway."

"If you say so. Let's go get some coffee then. Maybe it'll wake us up a bit," he offers. Jane agrees, surprised to see the sun already beginning to rise in the sky as they exit BPD's headquarters. The sound of a lawn mower starting nearby startles Jane as the air becomes inundated with the smell of gasoline and freshly cut grass. Jane freezes mid-step.

"Frost. Wait."

Frost looks at Jane and then looks around them, half-expecting to have stepped in something he shouldn't have.

"What's up?"

"I smelled grass this morning. There's no grass outside of my apartment. Why the hell did I smell grass?"

Frost isn't sure what to think, whether Jane has officially lost her mind or whether she was on a new lead. Jane racks her brain, replaying all of the events throughout her day over and over again as if it was a movie. She tries to think of all the smells that she had experienced throughout the last several days and nearly cries of joy when she remembers.

"Frost, we need to go back. I need you to do a background check," she says before turning on her heels and sprinting back to their office. Frost struggles to keep up, his tie flailing across his chest as he follows the taller woman. When they re-enter, all it takes for Korsak is one look at Jane for him to stand up and walk over to their desks. He recognized this look. It was the look Jane always had right before she broke a case wide open. Frost settles in his office chair, fingers poised on the keyboards and ready for Jane's command.

"Type in Olivia Rosenburg," Jane says as her fingers tap her chin.

"Your neighbor?" Frosk questions.

"How the hell do you know that?" Jane replies.

Frost looks down sheepishly. "So, uh, I may or may not have asked her out when I helped you move your new couch that one time. It turns out she doesn't bat for the right team. I never said anything because I was pretty embarrassed about how I made an ass out of myself."

For the first time in a few days, a smile begins to form at the edges of Jane's lips. She's amused but remains focused. "Happens to the best of us. Anyway. Olivia Rosenburg. What do we know?"

Frost types in her name, looking through the material that pops up. "Why are we looking into her?"

Jane's eyes bounce from Frost's computer to the map as she answers, "Because there's NO grass in front of my apartment, Frost. So why would I smell grass on Olivia's clothes?"

Frost shrugs, "Maybe she cut grass for a friend or family member. Maybe she does that for a living or as a side hustle. Or she coaches softball. Who knows?"

Jane doesn't seem satisfied with the possibilities that he listed, instead shaking her head. "No, it was really strong. It's more than that."

Korsak looks at them through his reading glasses as he says "You know, we once interviewed a kidnapping victim who said that the only thing he remembered throughout his entire kidnapping was the smell of freshly cut grass." He scoffs, "Of all things to remember, right?"

Jane does a double-take while looking at Korsak. "Wait. What did you just say?"

Korsak puts down his notepad. "Don't you remember? It was that kidnapping victim from the Greenbow case. He couldn't remember anything, poor guy. Just that smell. He kept saying it over and over and he said the smell of any grass being cut was enough to make him yak."

With her memory jogged, Jane begins to remember the case that Korsak is referencing. "Yeah! Didn't Maura discover that he was drugged with chloroform? That's why he kept smelling grass?" Jane says. She thinks back to the Google mouth explanation Maura had given her, unable to recall the actual scientific details but remembering how Maura had said that chloroform smelled like freshly cut grass to some people. Jane shares this story with Frost and Korsak, their eyes widening as they all come to the same realization.

"Wait-you don't think Olivia did it, do you?" Frost asks.

"Why else would she smell like that? I knew something was off about her!" Jane says as she grabs her bulletproof vest off her chair.

"Where are you going, Jane?" Korsak calls as Jane slams the elevator button repeatedly.

"To tear Olivia apart," Jane answers as she decides to take the stairs instead.

The two exchange a glance. Korsak opens his mouth first but Frost beats him to it, saying "Go. I'll stay here and look up other possible addresses."

Frost scours the results of the background check and pulls up the most recent tax filings. He sees another woman's name listed as the spouse under Olivia's joint filing and curses. Sarah Abellio. He looks up Sarah's background check, seeing that Sarah's company went bankrupt half a year ago. He writes down the address of their shared home and the company's building, sending them over immediately to Jane.

Jane's phone dings and she hands it to Korsak as she speeds toward her apartment. There is no car parked in Unit 17's parking spot. Korsak reads the text to her, telling her that there were two possible addresses. Jane's thoughts run a mile a minute, thinking about which option was more likely. The office building had a lot more surface area to cover and it would take the two of them forever to clear the building.

"Send uniforms to the office building. Let's go check out their house," Jane says as Korsak nods, agreeing with her decision.

She hits the side of her radio. "Dispatch, this is Victor 825 en route to 4591 Spring Lane Drive. Requesting back-up to 33225 24th Street. Again, that's 33225 two-four street. Alert units to be on the lookout for a possible kidnapping victim. 5'5 with honey-blonde hair. The suspect is a 5'8 woman with red hair. Be advised that she may be armed."

"Copy, Victor 825. Units are en route."

Jane hits the gas pedal with even more force, causing both of their heads to make contact with the seat behind them.
