This will be a slower story but also inspired by Pulling my Weight, an amazing Sakura centric story.

I think you will like how I handle the team issue...

Mika is a Ninja who can heal , Rooku will be Nurse/Doctor who can fight... if that makes sense...

Rooku is based on me and I work in healthcare.

Unlike the Jack of all Trade Mika, Rooku is more like the other Genin and will have a hyper focus to act as his 'Clan' jutsu replacement! Medical jutsu for him...

Any ideas for Romance? He is gay, since I am... just saying.

With shaking hands, Rooku managed to rush his chubby butt to the Hokage's office. He had been summoned by the Old Kage about an hour before he was to be at the Academy to become a Genin. He had a feeling he knew what it was about...

As he passed the secretary, who told him to go right in, Rooku opened the Hokage's door. "You wanted to see me, Sir?" He was terrified of this old man, the most powerful being in the Village, the Legendary God of Shinobi.

Hiruzen Sarutobi smiled at Rooku, warmth infused into every facet of his withered face. "Come in, Rooku!" And so he did. "I was informed, this morning, that you applied to become a Medic. May I ask why?"

"There are many reasons, Lord Hokage." Rooku was rather proud his voice wasn't shaking. "I am not going to be a front line fighter, it's just not in my nature. I can fight, and I will learn in case I absolutely need to fight on the front lines... but I am meant to be a support type Ninja. That is just who I am. I have always been interested in healing, ever since I was saved from my father when I was seven. I was amazed to see people could actually heal, that chakra could do more than hurt.

There is more, of course, I think my brains would be best put to use there. I am great at memorizing things, learning... and that is a big part of being a healer. I can serve the village better this way. I know this for a fact. It is my best chance to be useful and powerful. If that helps, sir."

The man radiated pride. "You have a long road before you... but I have faith. We always need more medics. I will sign off on your choice, you are exempt from being on a Ninja team. You will be a medic for at least three months, training in combat on your own or with other teams if they are willing until you are skilled enough to join other teams as an acting medic. Medical training is exhausting, with countless hours of study and training to gain any skills on the field or in the hospital.

To be truthful with you... This is actually a good thing, you were originally going to be put into the reserve forces as there were no open slots for teams for you. This way you can be the most productive."

Rooku cringed. "Why me specifically... is it because I am not a clan heir?"

The man looked ashamed. "A little to be honest. I have clear skills to work with to create teams with them. With you, a fresh civilian-born Ninja... I simply have no skills to base on my choices in making teams. I am sorry but it's true. However, as a healer, you will gain a specialty that will allow me to place you on a team with more accuracy and efficiency. Even as a lower-level medic, you will serve your village well. Go to the Academy as planned, then go to the Hospital to begin your medical training. Iruka will be informed of this before you even reach the Academy.

If you are lucky, you might reach apprenticeship and rise through the ranks as a medic. If you are ever forced to retire as a ninja, you will have the skill needed to back up on. It is actually a lucky part of being a medic, one I personally envy."

Nodding, Rooku stopped himself from leaving. "Um, sir... can ... I heard we have access to the Library now, to the genin section right? I may not prefer direct combat, being a support type ninja, but Iruka told us a lot of stories of overlyspecialized Ninjas losing fights. Those lessons stuck with me, I want to keep my skill sharp and learn more combat stuff if I need to. At least a few aces in the hole if I ever take the chunin exams. I mean I plan on focusing on my medical duties, but I am still a ninja you know?"

The man nodded. "You are more than welcome to go to the library but as you will be at the Hosptial for five days a week, working at least twenty hours as a medic in training while being trained for the other twenty hours... not counting your homework, you may have little time for training."

"I plan on at least getting in four hours of combat training a day sir. Two hours of conditioning before I go into the hospital and two hours afterward plus a hard day at least one of my days off. I need at least an ace the hole, like Tsunade's super strength! I will never be combat focus but I will be capable!"

The man smiled. "I wish you luck then,.. you are dismissed."

"Thank you, sir, have a good day." And so Rooku left, smiling as he walked to the Academy. He hid his rage and disappointment. 'Reserves, was I that worthless in the Academy since I am not a clan ninja? Well fuck him, fuck them all... I will shine in my own way. The only medic in my class, I just need an ace in the hole... whatever that is. Something to make me shine... I am a good writer, I'd like to think, maybe there is a Ninja art that is tied to that? I'll just have to see... but I need a combat ace in the hole, better conditioning since I am still slow, better taijutsu... I need to really work at this. I need to give myself the best chance possible...

Whatever that means for me!'

Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.

This was so much fun to write. Any idea for his combat ace in the hole? For friends, etc...

Love, your Ninja Overlord,

Mika.
