Ray began watching that building every night for any possibility of observing the gargoyle some more. But he also gathered his tools. He eventually told his team who he worked with that he had seen a gargoyle and had an interest in him.

"It would be something spectacular to work on and with a gargoyle." One of the women on the team spoke. She was a redhead with mid-length hair.

Ray waited and within a month, the red gargoyle was back on the building again. And within two weeks, he was back again. With the gargoyle coming back this often, they figured it was a matter of time and it would be a good thing to capture him and study him.

The group of scientists got tranquilizer darts ready and they would sit and wait there night after night, waiting for their target to show up. They had a van they planned to use to move him. They would take him to the lab first thing.

Brooklyn had started going to that building with the gargoyle statues ever since that night Ray had seen him. He was kept busy with more patrols lately so he was seen there a lot less. He went there to catch his breath and to get away from the clan and when he was ultimately bored of the castle.

Goliath had been told of his Second's odd behavior of sneaking out when duties were done lately and he had decided on a punishment of much more patrol time.

Brooklyn was resentful that his leader wouldn't let up on him. They had been out for nearly all night without so much as a food break for several nights. It was finally on the 8th night that Brooklyn managed to get away from the castle before Goliath could assign him more patrolling. He needed a break.

When Goliath saw that Brooklyn was gone, that angered him. He had Angela help him tonight instead. There had just been intense bad guys out lately, especially Quarrymen. He would get Brooklyn later with more duties.

Brooklyn flew to his new thinking place on the East side, the gargoyle building. He knew that the city had to deal with a lot of baddies, but why couldn't he have at least one night off in these last several nights? Tonight would be that night. He knew that Goliath would make him work even harder tomorrow to make up for it.

He went over to the edge and stood over near the edge. Little did he know he was being watched.

The human scientists had been waiting for him for many days and decided that they would get him as soon as possible.

Brooklyn leaned against a statue. "Man, why can't Goliath let up on me? There's only so much we can do during the night to stop those morons," he complained to himself. "I try my best and it's like nothing I do lately is good enough for him."

Angry tears came to his eyes just thinking about it. There were some cases that couldn't always be stopped and had to wait till another time. Especially if the ones who were trying to stop it were all exhausted from working that way.

The humans had heard the gargoyle's voice and knew now it was definitely a male. Now would be a good time to make their move, before he got ready to take off again.

Brooklyn was watching the street below when he suddenly heard what sounded like some footsteps behind him. He moved his ears to listen, glancing backwards. Just when he thought it was safe to be here. He turned around to face his enemies.

"Who are you? I know you're there. Come out and face me!" he demanded fiercely.

The humans weren't going to face him in a threatening manner. One of them got the signal and shot his dart gun silently.

Brooklyn didn't even see it coming. A dart suddenly hit him in the left shoulder. He yelped and pulled the dart out of his skin. This wasn't good. It could be a poison for all he knew, but more than likely drugs to make him sleep. He could feel the effects already starting to take effect.

"No, I can't let this happen." Brook said sleepily. He had to get out of here, but he his body was getting sluggish fast. He fell to his knees, losing feeling in his legs. In his blurry vision, he could make out some humans stepping out of the shadows, coming toward him.

"No… stay… away…" Brooklyn said groggily and he fell onto his stomach, out cold.

Ray and his team were satisfied. "So, what are we going to do with him?" the lady asked.

"I want to examine him at the lab first thing and then we are going to move him to my getaway out west. I want him alone. He will be quite the prize to keep and have around. We need one to study the anatomy of to get ideas to possibly even breed him soon." Ray explained.

"Yeah, but we need a female to breed him with." One of the men spoke up.

"Not necessarily. There are ways to make it possible for him to carry himself. I've learned enough of science of what's possible. What we humans have been able to do with our modern ways of technology." Ray replied.

"That certainly would be something to see." The woman said. She would love to see a male go through a pregnancy instead of a female like it was all the time.

It took all of them to carry Brooklyn down the building's stairs and out into the back alley, where a van was waiting to take the gargoyle to the lab for some tests and then moving out of the state.

Little did Brooklyn know that it would be a long time before he ever saw his clan again.

….

Ray wanted to know what all this gargoyle was capable of. But of course, he wanted to stay safe and not be hurt by him. This creature was one heck of a big prize to have and that was so rare to come by. He was able to talk so he should be able to cooperate fairly. But if he didn't cooperate with them, then they would just have to force him, depending on what they were doing.

There were some humans who had known about them back in the Dark Ages, and then there were others who had never seen them at all. And many of them had wished they never existed. Gargoyles in many areas of the world had been all but hunted to extinction so long ago.

Japan had been quite an exception. There were also some in China that hadn't been found either. England had been thought to have wiped out their gargoyles, but that wasn't true either. A clan resided there in big secrecy for their own safety in London. And there was a clan in Guatemala too. It only had four members though, and they would have many eggs hatching next year. Zafiro and Obsidiana would need help raising them. Jade and Turquesa were still on Avalon.

Of course, Ray and his team knew nothing of these surviving gargoyles. It was thought that this clan in New York were the only ones of their kind, and for the time being, that was probably more for the best, until the Quarrymen were stopped.

….

Around sunrise, Goliath was looking for all his clan mates. Once again, Brooklyn wasn't there. Goliath was getting fed up with his Second wandering off. It wasn't safe out there. If he was to go out, he needed someone with him.

Goliath hoped Brooklyn would be alright and make it back tomorrow with the dawn fast approaching. He would talk to him tomorrow night about his wandering off by himself too much. Little did they all know that it would be a long time before they saw each other again.

Brooklyn was taken to the New York lab first thing to take his vitals and a simple health exam to make sure that he was well enough to fly on a plane. Ray and his team had their own plane.

Of course, the humans had no idea what was normal for a gargoyle's vitals to be. That's why they wanted to study a gargoyle to learn many things about them. Even if it meant not so nice experiments.

The team were also curious as to what the gargoyle had in his stomach. His digestion was listened to and it gurgled about in there. Using ultrasound, a needle syringe was used to draw up some digested food from the intestines.

"By tomorrow night, he should have an empty belly." Ray said.

"What about his stone sleep that we've heard about?" A man spoke.

"What about it? We will keep him tied down in chains. Rope is too fragile. The stone fragments would shatter them. But we need to get him in position now before the sun rises." Ray explained. "I also want to see how fertile he is."

The woman wanted to do that. She got a needle and syringe and moving the loincloth aside, she saw the gargoyle's male parts, that didn't look that much different than a human male's. They were impressive to her. She got a sperm sample from the testes and looked at it under the microscope after putting the cloth back in place.

There were mighty good swimmers under the microscope. Ray came over to see too and saw the sperm. "He'll be a good breeder when the time comes for that." He stated.

"What exactly are we going to do with him?" the woman asked.

"We are going to do tests on him. Talk to him and find out more about the gargoyle race. Then worry about bringing forth a new one from him." Ray explained.

The food that had been collected came back as turkey, bread, veggie mix, and some banana. Brooklyn's vitals all seemed to be alright too. He was good to get on the plane now.

The van and humans took Brooklyn to La Guardia Airport to board a first-class plane that was bound for Nevada. He started coming out of his sedative but he was quickly sedated again to go back to sleep. They had all nearly panicked, but the doctor on the team made sure that he was out.

Once aboard the plane, Brooklyn was tied down to a gurney with metal bonds to secure his hands, legs, tail, and wings. The bonds were over his wing hands.

Ray observed the sleeping gargoyle. He looked peaceful, but so sad too. Perhaps breeding him would cheer him up, but he would wait on that. He also wanted to know if this gargoyle had a name. He would name him if he didn't have one. Surely, it wasn't just Red, right?

"I want to start planning on breeding him, which we will start on the preparation right away. Get some of his DNA right now before the sunrise." Ray ordered.

"I already have some of the sperm, of course," the lady, Melina, said.

"I want some more blood taken, and tissue samples." Ray directed.

It was getting close to sunrise and they had to hurry. The plane was getting ready to take off.

Some men took various tissue samples from one limb each. Each sample was put in a sanitary jar of liquid to preserve it for later study. Perhaps it could also answer the question of how the gargoyle turned to stone. A heart monitor was put on Brooklyn's chest to monitor his heartbeat for air travel, at least from the ground to the air.

The plane got going and got off the ground. Brooklyn's heartbeat seemed to sense the difference between ground and air travel. The monitor went higher as the plane got further up into the air.

The plane got up to 800 feet in the air before the sun came up and he turned to stone. The monitor started beeping because it said that there was no heartbeat then. Ray had his team take the pads off him. They would worry about putting them back on later. Even Brooklyn's loincloth was stone. How strange.

The questions would be answered or else some serious consequences could happen. Ray didn't take no for an answer from his subjects.
