Brooklyn slept through most of the night due to the pain of his leg, but at one point, he also got the nausea again and had to find the bathroom. He threw up his food that he couldn't help. Dizziness didn't help any. But he went back to bed after that. He had limped while walking.
Ted woke up at his alarm at 5:30. He went to see to his guest. He saw that it had been no dream. He woke Brooklyn up gently.
"Hmm. What time is it?" Brook asked tiredly.
"It's 5:45 in the morning. It's going to be dawn soon. I wanted to see if you wanted some more food before your sleep." Ted offered.
"Some food sounds good." Brook replied.
"How about some eggs?"
"Sure."
Ted went and made some eggs, toast, bacon, and sausage. He also liked this for himself as well.
When Brooklyn was offered the food soon after, he dived right into it. It smelled so good. Though the bacon was a sudden turnoff. "No thanks on the bacon. You can have it." Brook said.
"Okay. Sorry." Ted stated.
Brooklyn normally loved bacon too, but his sense of smell and taste had just not liked it. He was able to eat the eggs, toast, and sausage though.
Ted also checked on the leg wound too. It was fine. Brooklyn had left it alone.
Not long after that, the sky was getting lighter, and Brooklyn pushed himself to his feet with Ted's help. "I need to be on my feet at sunrise." Brook told Ted.
Brooklyn soon sensed the sun coming up and he quickly took a pose. His stone sleep state took over. Ted was amazed at seeing that. His savior would be helpless during the day. He had to make sure he stayed safe. He would keep the blinds and curtains closed today for safety measure. He usually opened them up in daytime. Just today would be an exception.
Ted went back to bed for a while before he would have to go to his job, as he was a factory worker that made windows for a living.
….
Later in the afternoon, Ted went to the store to get some supplies for his guest to take with him on his journey home. Non-perishable food like crackers, fruit in the can, more bread, bottled juice, water bottles, peanuts, some cookies, jerky. These items would be good as long as they stayed in their packages. Things that didn't need refrigeration. He also got a travel bag for him.
Brooklyn still needed to go back and find his original supply bag on that rooftop that he had left it on. He had temporarily forgotten it while his injury was on his mind.
Ted brought the groceries home and waited for his guest to wake up from his stone sleep. He wondered how he would come out of the stone casing. He would find out at sunset. He sat down to watch some TV until it was time. It was getting closer to sunset all the time.
After two more hours of waiting, at 6:25 pm, there was a cracking sound heard. Ted heard it and he quickly muted the TV. He looked over at the stone gargoyle. The eyes lit up bright white and there was a growling and a roar as the stone skin turned into fragments as it went flying. Ted had to cover his face. There would be a mess to clean up but it was worth it to see something so bizarre and fascinating for a change.
Ted uncovered his face to see the red gargoyle now standing up and stretching himself.
Brooklyn's eyes returned to normal and he looked around. He didn't recognize where he was at first. "Brooklyn?" he heard and he turned to the human over in the chair.
"Oh, it felt like a dream. Ted?" Brook replied.
"Are you alright?" Ted asked.
"Of course." Brook stated.
"How's your leg? Ted asked.
Brooklyn looked down at the bandaging on his thigh. He smiled. He hadn't told the man about this. "Thanks for caring for me last night, and my leg is fine." Brooklyn sat down and undid the bandage. "See? The wound is gone." He said.
Ted looked and gasped. The wound he had treated last night was gone! Ted had a closer look and there was no indication that there had even been a wound there. "It's amazing there's not even a scar there," he declared.
"I know. But like I said, I really need to be on my way." Brooklyn said.
"Wait. We could have dinner together and I got you the supplies that you would need." Ted stated. "At least let me make you some food so you don't leave on an empty stomach."
"Thanks." Brook said. "And technically, it's breakfast for me."
"Yeah, it would be, wouldn't it?" Ted replied with a smirk.
Ted went on to make them some chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, peas, toast, and deviled eggs for dinner. There was some pudding for dessert.
Brooklyn hadn't had this type of cooking in a long time. It was delicious! During dinner, Ted asked what he was hurrying home to. "I have a clan back home. My leader, Goliath, his daughter, Angela, my brothers, Broadway, and Lexington, my elder, Hudson and our beast, Bronx. He's like our dog really. I also have human friends too. I'm the clan's Second in Command." Brooklyn explained.
"Wow. Being the Second must carry lots of responsibilities." Ted stated.
"Yes. I'm destined to be leader one day after Goliath. I have to get home before he names another one of the others his new Second." Brook declared. "They might think I'm dead by now."
"Why don't you call your family from here?" Ted asked. "They could come and get you."
"I'm not sure what the number is exactly. That's why I have to continue on my way tonight, Ted. I wish I could stay longer. Can you direct me to the train station at least?" Brooklyn asked.
"Yeah, the train station can get you a good long way to New York." Ted said, then directed the gargoyle to the station.
"I have to go find my other backpack too that I stashed on a gas station rooftop. Thanks for the directions. I'll be back for the new supplies you got me." Brooklyn said. Now that he was finished, he went out the door and looked for a tree to climb to get into the air. Ted followed. He wanted to see how he got to the air.
Brook found the one tree in the backyard and climbed it and got to the air again. He headed down south to find that gas station. Likely his bag would still be there. He still remembered which direction he had come from.
Ted hoped he would find his way back here. He wanted to see him again. He would try to stay out of trouble after Brooklyn left his home for good. He went back inside.
Brooklyn went on gliding through the town, looking for the gas station he left his bag on. It took him awhile to find it, but he found it. He went down and got the bag and took off back to Ted's house to get the new supplies that would have to do to get him home, or halfway home. He hoped the train he took would be able to get him home within the next twenty-four hours. He would make a nice surprise to the clan. He could just picture their reactions.
He soon got back to Ted's house and he got the supplies in his bag. Some of the stuff in his bag he had to throw out. He refilled all his water bottles. Ted also gave him one hundred dollars to help get him by in case he ended up somewhere else and not in New York.
When he was ready, he shook hands with Ted. "Well, so long, Brooklyn. Thanks for your help last night. Take care of yourself." Ted declared.
"You too, Ted. You might stay safer if you didn't gamble at all." Brooklyn said. "Well, I have to be off now. Thanks for the supplies too and breakfast. And treating my leg."
"You're welcome."
Brooklyn got to the air again and headed in the direction of the train station that Ted had provided him with. He soon came upon it. It was after ten o'clock. There was no train right now, but he landed on the station's rooftop. He made sure no one was around and went to look at what time the next train would be coming. It said midnight. He went back to the rooftop. He would stay out of sight till then.
He watched for any signs of trouble while waiting. Two hours later, the train finally came in after stopping. It was an Amtrak. He wished he could just ride with the passengers regularly. But he saw a cargo car too. That was his ticket to get on. He had to hurry. There were some humans getting on.
Brooklyn grabbed his bag and hurriedly went down to the cargo car and opened up the door. It was easier for him versus a human opening it up. He quickly got on board and closed the door behind him. It wasn't long before the train was getting ready to move again. He went to find a resting place.
There were boxes in this car. It would make a good place to hide behind. He just hoped he wasn't discovered here. He would be stone by the time the train pulled into St. Louis and possibly even New York. It would take nearly two days to get there by this train. It sure would give Brooklyn's wings a break.
There would be some stops that the train would make in Kansas too and other places. When he got bored of staring at the walls, he went and very carefully opened the car door for some air and some scenery. The night sky was beautiful. He rarely got to see it since New York lights blocked out the stars most of the time.
When Brooklyn began to get dizzy watching everything, he went back to the spot behind the boxes and sat down. He was getting nauseated again. Why did this happen every night?
Brooklyn decided to sleep it off. He wasn't going anywhere.
