Chapter 1: Shark Magic

-Plover Island Complex-

In the extension of sea not far from Port Clovis known as Plover Island, also known as Site P, a truly massive eighty meter bull shark swam through the water with both power and conviction—like a living tank. As the beast swam, she soon passed through a cave containing a ship that phased in and out of existence for reasons she didn't care to learn, something happened.

Suddenly, the hull of the massive ship split in two, causing countless amounts of nutrient caches to burst out of it—and for gallons upon gallons of mutagen to spray itself all over her. As she absorbed all of the nutrients, she could feel her body start to change, forcing her to shed out of her Atomic armor to avoid exploding.

But this was soon also followed up by the singularity surrounding the ship to open up into some sort of portal—which started sucking her inside as she returned to her standard Bull Shark form!

As she proceeded to travel between worlds, her body began changing and became more humanoid. Her new life began now.

-Village of Hage, Clover Kingdom-

In a world where magic is everything, there existed a village called Hage, where peasants tended to their fields and orphans lived at the local church. In the distance behind this village lay the massive skeleton of a truly titanic looking three eyed demon, with a statue of a boy atop its head.

And in the woods beyond this village laylay a stream, where the portal containing the Maneater spat her out onto the ground, soon revealing her new form and appearance post transformation.

Her body was that of a human woman, and a beautiful one at that. She had blue hair, pale skin, EE-cup breasts topped with ocean blue nipples, a toned stomach, a heart shaped ass, a muscular swimmer's figure from the basically neverending swimming she did in her old form and legs that looked painful to be kicked by. There was also a burn mark on the left side of her face. Additionally she also had scars on her right side and her back where Scaly Pete cut her, and she had three gill-like slits on her cheeks and shoulders, as well as dark blue fingernails.

Oh, and she was also naked, too.

After a few minutes, the Maneater slowly woke up and soon too noticed that she was on land, in the woods, and apparently her left eye was working again. She guessed that the extra mutagen increased the effects of her healing factor. Crawling over to the stream since she couldn't use her legs yet, she looked into it and saw her reflection as her own sea blue eyes looked back at her.

'What the…? What happened to me?' She thought to herself as she looked around. 'And come to think of it, where am I?' She wondered as well as she attempted to hoist herself up on a tree.

Looking at herself over, she noticed that her fins and tail were missing but she still had her teeth and gills. In addition she could feel that she had all of her adaptations and evolutionary organs as well, but she couldn't tell if she had her armors.

Stumbling towards an apple tree, she plucked an apple off the branch and decided to eat it, since she could feel that she had molars too, and to her astonishment, she was able to tolerate it—hell, she even liked it!

'This is as good as catfish!' She thought in astonishment. She looked around, taking in her surroundings and realized she had a lot to learn and discover. Where she started was completely up to her.

(About a week later)

After a week of sneaking around the nearby village, the shark woman had managed to steal herself some clothes and hull herself a temporary home into the rib cage of the giant demon skeleton.

Additionally, she'd also been learning everything she could about her new surroundings. And so far, she'd found out that this world was both interesting, and slightly infuriating.

First, she learned that the world she was in was one with magic and was in a Medieval period.

Second, Magic is everything in this world. The more magic you have, the higher your status, and the lower your magic, the lower your status. Which she could kind of understand, survival of the fittest, food chains and what not.

Third, the government was a monarchy, with a king, Wizard King, Nobles and Magic Knights as government and military. Making the last options like an interesting a fitting profession for her to look into to blend in.

Four, Magic power is increased by obtaining a grimoire. This book contains the spells a person is able to use, and a person can learn new spells by training very hard or ending up in a life or death situation. The more spells you know, the more powerful you'll probably be.

This concept actually caught her attention, and she wondered if she could get her hands on one to increase her power. She might be on land, but she's still gonna fight like she was still a vicious man eating Bull Shark.

One other thing she learned was that, like back home, every human had a name of their own. She opted to choose the name Kisame for herself. It was a name that meant shark, so it made sense to her.

Kisame sighed as she poked her camp fire with a stick as she huddled close to it, her long sleeved white shirt, blue pants and white boots keeping her warm enough, but she still felt rather chilly. As she tried to stay warm, she heard someone shouting about… something, and it was getting closer.

"I'll catch up to you, Yuno! Just you wait!" A male voice shouted as he unknowingly ran in her direction. A few moments later, a boy with blond hair with some weird headband and simple clothes burst into the clearing.

'What the—?' Kisame thought as the boy zipped towards her, right until he suddenly skid to a halt right as he saw her huddling by her fire.

"... Uh, what are you doing here?" He asked in obvious confusion before he suddenly scowled. "This is my training zone!" He added with a shout. Kisame wasn't impressed.

"And?" She asked flatly, clearly not caring about that. "It's not like you're strong enough to kick me out, pipsqueak." She added. Yes, she could talk now. She had plenty of time to hear how the locals talk, so she was able to pick up on it with her adaptations rather quickly.

"Pipsqueak?! Who're you calling a pipsqueak, fish face?" The boy snapped, causing the girl to wince at how loud he was. His words caused her eye to twitch angrily. Here stood a boy, probably a couple years younger than her by her best estimates—whom she dwarfed by several inches—and he had the gall to call her fish face?! She slowly stood up and turned to him fully, the boy being forced to look up at her.

"Fish face, huh?" Kisame growled, showing her shark teeth. The display made the shorter boy feel uneasy. "I better teach you a damn lesson!" She yelled before lunging at her target.

However, the boy surprised her by somehow sidestepping her and grabbing her by the waist, bending backwards to hoist her off the ground, and using her own weight against her—to suplex her face first into the ground.

"Oof!" The ex-Maneater grunted as she lay there dazed before she quickly recovered and got back to her feet. "Okay, so you got talent. But how long can you keep it up?" She mused before she charged again. Unlike last time, her target couldn't get a hold on her and he was suddenly pinned against a tree.

"Ngh! What the hell, how can you be this strong?!" He grunted as he tried to get free.

"Wouldn't you want to know?" Kisame smirked, her grip tightening as she flashed her sharp teeth in a toothy grin. "Tell me kid, you wanna know something interesting?" She questioned the boy as her shoulder gills flared slightly.

"Depends on what it is." The boy replied. Kisame's grin just widened in response.

"A little known fact about Sharks, most of them are ovoviviparous." She told him. "That is to say that the eggs of a shark hatch while they're still inside their mother's belly." She continued upon seeing his confused looking face. "But with some kinds of Shark's the number of babies differ from how many emerge from their mother's uterus." She added. "Do you know why that is?" She asked.

"Um… W-why?" The blonde asked nervously.

"It's because of cannibalism." Kisame replied, her grin turning bloodthirsty. The words and grin sent a chill of fear up the boy's spine. "Right from the moment they hatch, the baby sharks start eating each other inside the mother's belly. To each shark its siblings are just food to be eaten. This fratricidal warfare begins from the moment they're born." She continued.

"Why are you even telling me about something so morbid?!" The still pinned teen questioned as he tried to fight off the feeling of nausea.

"I'm saying that you should be wary of those you pick fights with!" Kisame yelled as she hurled the boy over her shoulder and caused him to crash into one of the demon's ribs. "I am Kisame Hoshigaki, and I am a user—." She continued as water droplets started gathering around her until a giant shark appeared behind her. "Of Shark Magic!" She yelled as she sent the attack at the boy, causing it to explode in a huge splash of water.

(Several months later)

Time passed since Kisame had met that loudmouth kid, who she had later learned was named Asta. He kept coming back, only for her to thrash him with her Shark Magic. Strangely enough, he never used any spells to fight back with, and she was rather confused about that.

'I wonder why that is?' She wondered as she turned a rather large fish on a spit she had made, salting it and dusting it with fresh herbs and bone powder from the ribs behind her. As well as squeezing lemon juice on it periodically.

However, as she finished cooking her meal and began eating, an almost waffle-like shadow soon descended on her, before she was suddenly ensnared in some sort of net!

"Okay, who the hell has the nerve?!" Kisame barked in annoyance. Seconds later, Asta leaped out of the brush and then went over to her fire and took her food. "Hey! That's my dinner you little brat!" She yelled.

"If you're gonna be living in the same village as me and the rest of my orphaned brothers and sisters, you're gonna need to come with me so the priest and Sister Lily can keep an eye on you." The boy stated as he wrapped the fish in a piece of clean cloth. "Hage village isn't somewhere you can just squat in!" He added as he started dragging her away.

Kisame growled as she tried to get out of the net, but she soon noticed that it was made out of nylon, aka the same stuff that anti shark nets were made of. "Shit." She cursed as she was unable to move.

(Later)

Asta had arrived at the church with a very unwilling Kisame in tow, still in the net. When he arrived, the priest, Sister and everyone else were less than amused at what he did to get her here. Among them was Yuno, who had fair skin, scraggly black hair and simple clothes.

"Asta, what are you doing?! That's no way to treat a lady!" Sister Lily scolded him.

"Trust me, Sister Lily, this ain't a lady." The boy groaned as he hauled the shark woman to the door, who at this point was fully fed up with his antics and was now trying to chew her way through the net.

"While I can see that, what even told you that dragging her here against her will was remotely okay?" Yuno questioned in displeasure.

"Hey, she was living out in the skeleton of the demon! Someone had to tell her she couldn't just live wherever she wanted!" Asta retorted.

"I don't think that's what Yuno meant, Asta." One of the younger kids chimed in, right as the Father came up to them. Seeing what was going on, he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"In any case, Asta, please let this young girl go. I'm sure she'd be willing to talk to us if we showed her some compassion and hospitality, not brute force help." The man said.

Right as Asta went to say something, Yuno and some of the other kids helped Kisame out of her net and one of the kids even held her dinner out to her. The blonde looked at the scene in frustration as the shark girl dusted herself off.

"So, how do you feel?" The black haired teen asked gently… Right before Kisame punched Asta in the face, causing him to yell in pain as he fell to the ground.

"Better now." She smirked as her shorter captor clutched his face in pain.

"Okay, I deserve that." The boy groaned as he got up. "Everyone, meet Sameki Hashioki, I met her in the woods a few months ago." He added, though the mispronunciation of her name was less than amusing to the shark girl.

"It's Kisame Hoshigaki." She corrected. "Seriously, do you always butcher people's names?" She questioned indignantly.

"He's always been terrible at remembering people's names. Don't take it personally." A little girl explained with a sweat drop.

"Your name sounds rather strange, yet I seem to recall someone having a similar kind of name before…" Father noted absently. "Ah, no matter. Tell me, Kisame, seeing as you were staying so far away from the village, I assume you don't have a place to stay?" He asked.

"No, and to be honest, I much rather prefer being out in the wild. It keeps me sharp and in shape." The shark woman replied with a shrug. She was a predator by default, and needed to be free, after all. Taking her food back from the children, she then made her way towards the door. "So if you excuse me." She added before…

The doors suddenly slammed before she could even get to them by a gust of wind which Yuno kicked up, and Asta also stood in her way.

"Let me rephrase that, for the past couple months we've been noticing that our food reserves have been depleting faster than usual." The man said behind her, his kindly expression betraying his near angry feelings. "And the children noticed someone sneaking food out of them and into the woods. And now that we have a name to the face, I'm afraid we can't let you just run ramshot all over us because you prefer to be alone." He added.

"Yeah, fact is, you'll have to work off all the food you stole." Asta nodded. Kisame, however, glared at him and everyone else.

"And you think you can chain a predator?" She questioned, using her Shark Magic to try and intimidate everyone into submission. However, Yuno had other ideas and slammed her into a wall with his wind magic, causing her to grunt as he magic dispelled from the disruption of her concentration.

"Don't bother trying to fight. I'll be keeping you there until you surrender." He stated. Kisame growled as she strained against the pressure, and felt her gills flare again, only this time, a green mist started floating from Yuno into her gills, filling her with enough strength to break free. "What the—?" The boy gasped.

"She just ate Yuno's mana!" A younger boy gasped.

"B-but that shouldn't be possible!" Sister Lily gasped with wide eyes. Kisame roared as she lunged at Yuno and landed a punch in his stomach, causing him to gasp as the wind was knocked out of his lungs.

"You think you can intimidate an apex predator, you little pu—!" She said before Asta suddenly sucker punched her so hard in the jaw that he sent her crashing into the church's pews, and hitting her head several times in the process.

The blonde was about to yell for her to stay down, but she just leaped back to her feet a second later, unphased by the blows to her head looking even angrier. She flared her magic and created ten water great white sharks before she sent them at the two boys and at the priest and sister, having caught a glance of the latter two getting ready to stop her.

"I'm not letting you chain me!" She yelled as she made her sharks attack them relentlessly, giving them no room to attack. "Shark Magic: Ten Hungry Sharks!" She yelled.

"Ngh! Yuno, can you get rid of these with a wind blast?!" The priest called out to the wind magic user as he tried to stay in one piece.

"I can't! She's not giving me any room to breathe!" The black haired boy called back as he did his best to evade the carnivorous constructs.

"My magic is useless here! Water is the only thing I can use!" The nun added as she evaded a shark.

"What are we supposed to do?!" Asta yelled as he barely dodged one of the beasts.

"She said she didn't want to be chained, what could she mean by that?" Father questioned as he ducked behind the altar with the rest of the children, along with the two boys and sister Lily.

"Could she be from an abusive home perhaps?" Lily questioned, which made Asta's eyes widen.

"Yuno, can you duck your head out and check to see if you see any scars on her anywhere?" He asked.

"Sure." The taller teen nodded. He peeked out from behind the altar and focused his gaze on Kisame as the water sharks 'swam' through the air. When he saw the grizzly burn scar on the left side of her face and the slash scars on her right side, his eyes widened. "Oh dear." He gasped, getting the attention of the others.

"What?" Father questioned.

"She has a burn mark on the left side of her face, a nasty one. And I can make out the scars of two slash scratches on her right side." He replied. This made the kids wince and Sister Lily to gasp.

"I knew it, I knew something seemed off about the way she looked besides the obvious!" Asta stated, which got a few deadpans from everyone else.

"That aside, how do we get her to calm down?" One of the younger boys asked, getting back to the topic at hand.

"That I don't know, Nash, that I don't know." The priest said. A few seconds later, however, Asta had an epiphany.

"I know!" The boy said, slamming his fist down on his open palm in realization. "Why don't we try getting her to calm down with some sweet papotato bread, meat, fried potatoes and cheese? That always calms me down." He suggested, which made everyone almost face plant.

"What in the world makes you think that would calm an obvious carnivore down?!" Lily questioned in disbelief.

"Wait, he might actually have a point!" Nash said with wide eyes before looking past the altar. "Hey, Kisame! Why don't you eat that fish of yours if you're so hungry?" He called.

The shark girl was about to turn her shark spell directly on the boy, but as she did, her knees suddenly buckled as she fell to the ground and her magic disappeared… and the loud sound of guttural growling suddenly filled the entire church.

"So… Hungry…" She groaned weakly. Everyone else looked past the altar and saw their sharky assailant on the ground, reaching for the bundle that contained her dinner, which had landed on the ground just out of her reach. She crawled over to it and, once she grabbed it, removed the wrapping on it and started tearing into the fish like she would die if she didn't.

"Huh. Would you look at that, Asta had a good idea for once." Yuno remarked with a blink.

"Told ya, I know a hangry person when I see one." Asta chucked as Kisame continued to gorge herself on her dinner like a savage animal. Walking over to her, the boy tapped her on the shoulder. "Come on, I'll show you where you can get some vegetables, fruit and bread to go with that. Or are you more of a rice person?" He asked.

"Fruit, please!" The shark woman replied eagerly, showing that she had calmed down significantly after getting some food in her belly. Asta laughed as he led her to where the fruit was stored. Meanwhile, Father, Lily and Yuno watched them with smiles before they looked at each other with serious looks.

"That was way too close. If she fights like that when she's just hungry, then I dread to see what she's like when she fights for her life." Father declared seriously.

"I must agree, although I'm very concerned about where those scars she got came from. If her previous family abused her to that extent… I don't even want to think about it." Lily nodded with a shudder.

"I don't know why, but I have a terrible feeling that the truth behind those injuries is far worse than what we're presuming." He commented.

Yuno, meanwhile, just watched as his friend and rival led the shark girl to their kitchen. 'So she's an orphan too, huh? Well, looks like she'll fit right in after all.' He thought to himself, a small smile on his face.

(Later)

After she was treated to a dinner of beef and cheese covered potato fries, a loaf of some kind of sweet and salty potato bread that reminded her of the pretzels that people sometimes threw in the old orca cages, and a delicious apple pie, Kisame was absolutely full and happy. Happier than she'd been in years.

Right now though, she was lying on a cot next to Yuno and the other kids, when she suddenly felt a pair of fingers start to trace the razor scars on her right side. Turning to face the person, she saw that it was Yuno, and he was just staring at the marks, intently."May I ask how you got these?" He asked gently. Kisame stiffened as her right hand grabbed his own hand out of instinct.

"I… I'm not ready to talk about that." She replied shakily as she tried to suppress that damnable memory. The scraggly haired young man could tell that it was a sensitive topic and let it go.

"Alright, I was just curious." The boy shrugged as he turned over and went to sleep. The shark girl did the same, hugging her blanket close to her body to keep herself warm.

(The next day)

The following day, it was time for all the children of fifteen years old to receive their grimoires, and since Kisame was the same age as Yuno and Asta, if only a year older, she was allowed to go as well.

Now the three were standing in the tower of grimoires, waiting to receive that oh so important of resources. The shark woman idly wondered what hers would look like. After a bit, an old wizard in a robe stepped onto the podium.

Yawning, the shark girl was quick to tune out the speech, honestly not interested in the slightest in the formalities… at least until some smart ass rich kid started talking trash about her and her companions—and her appearance in particular.

"Pfft, look at that girl. Not only is she a commoner, she's a freak!" He laughed. Kisame's eye twitched as she sent a glare in his direction.

"Wanna say that to my face, you minnow?!" She growled, turning to the boy and flashing her sharp teeth. Thankfully for them though, Asta and Yuno held her back.

"Don't, Kisame, they're not worth it." Yuno told her. As he said this though, the grimoires started flying off the many shelves in the tower and started floating towards various people. As people received there's, Kisame waited for hers to come to her, and a moment later, it arrived. She was quick to take note of its appearance.

It had a blue leather cover, and had a shark's jaw on the front with ocean waves on the back, which were both embossed into the leather. In the jaw was a clover, and clasping the grimoire together was a silver wave pendant. Lastly the book seemed to glow a dark deep ocean blue as page after page of Shark Magic spells filled the new book.

But what really stood out about her grimoire, other than it's unique appearance—was the fact that instead of a three leaf clover like everyone else, she had a four leaf clover.

"What the–! That girl's grimoire has a four leaf clover on it!" Someone exclaimed in shock.

"And look at the way it looks! What in the world is up with that?!" Someone else shouted.

"Hey, Yuno, looks like Kisame got a four leaf one too. That's pretty crazy, Ya know, given how rare… it is." Asta noted before he noticed that he wasn't getting a grimoire. "OH YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!" He yelled in dismay.

(Later that day)

Kisame sighed as she went back to the church, new grimoire in hand, and was currently thumbing through her various different spells. And just like she predicted, she still had access to her adaptations and armors, and could even enhance them with magic through spells.

'Hm, if I ever catch anyone in water, they'll be shark food.' She thought to herself before seeing a construct spell for… 'The helicoprion shark? I think that was an ancestor of mine.' She noted with a blink. She looked through her spell selection a bit more and saw spells for constructs of various different sharks, past and present. Kisame was pleased by the variety that was available.

However, what got her attention the most, was the thing on the last page. It was the image of a large greatsword that was wrapped in bandages and had a skull pommel, and on the back was an image of the same sword but it was a large spikes mass of shark skin with a mouth full of teeth. The spell name for the weapon read "Shark Skin".

"Hm…" She hummed to herself before she found a secluded spot and focused on the spell. "Shark Magic: Shark Skin!" She intoned. Immediately, the sword itself emerged from the book and stabbed itself into the ground. "Interesting, very interesting." She nodded as she picked the blade up with minimal effort.

(Elsewhere)

Meanwhile with Asta and Yuno, the two had just squashed a thief who tried to take them down, and against all possible odds, Asta got himself a grimoire. But what stood out about it, was its pitch black color, and the five leaf clover that lay in the center.

In three leaves, there's Integrity, Hope and Love

In four there's luck

And in five, there lives the devil.

Dragon Emperor0: Alright, that's episodes 1, 2, and a fair chunk of 3 out of the way so far in one chapter. Wow, keep this up and I'm confident we'll be catching up with the anime in no time. Especially if we skip the filler.

ThermalsniperN7: I didn't even realize this anime would be that good. And if you guys can spot who this iteration of the Maneater is based on, and you more than likely will, you should be able to figure out why she's like this.

Dragon Emperor0: And in regards to ships, feel free to leave suggestions in the review section. As well as any suggestions as to which Magic Knight squad Kisame should be in. I was personally thinking she'd fit right in with either the Silver Eagles, Blue Roses or even the Golden Dawn. But what do you think? Let us know.

ThermalsniperN7: I'm new to Black Clover, so I have no idea who Kisame should be shipped with here. Let alone what squad she should be a part of. Anyway, see you next time.
