Mai's P.O.V

I was back in my training for my abilities, and Naru was at the office, so Lin had come with me today. Surprisingly i hadn't heard anything from NoriYuki, and it was starting to make me uneasy. I knew when things started getting quiet i'd begin to feel comfortable and then he'd make his move. I just felt so…wary.

Luella had been checking in on me daily since i had fainted at the reunion, but i hadn't been able to respond much. Naru ended up calling her to explain that i had been sick and with the training i was really tired…She had understood but decided to come and check on me in person. I guess i had really earned her favor if she was so worried about me.

"Mai?" I heard Lin say as he walked over, "want the light on?" I shook my head, sitting up.

"No, thank you…It stops my migraines…" I said, taking the tea cup from his hand.

"Migraines? Did you tell Naru?" He asked. I just looked down. "I'll take that as a no." He said, sitting across from me. I sighed.

"I want to but…he'll just make me take time off again. I'm tired of doing nothing. I need to get things rolling if i'm going to end up taking on NoriYuki…" I said, looking at him.

"Hmm…We haven't had any reports of him showing up in England…Are you sure you don't want to just focus on getting better?" He asked. I could see concern in his eye.

"...Last time i let my guard down my apartment was blown up…" I muttered, "If i get too comfortable…Naru…the others…you…any or all of you could get hurt…" I gripped the cub. He reached over and touched my hand.

"You worry too much about us…We can take care of ourselves. Besides, Naru will make you rest if he notices you hiding something again." He said and i just nodded in response.

I looked up as i heard footsteps coming closer, seeing Mr. Larny coming to us.

"You're abilities are growing quickly. I'm proud of you for working so hard the last few days." He said with a smile. I smiled and nodded.

"Thank you, without you to show me i doubt i would've gotten this handled so fast." I said as he sat down. Lin stayed between us, as Naru didn't trust the man. To be honest…neither did i…

"Well, that's not entirely true. You have a good team, especially with SPR on your side. But it takes time. Truthfully, i'm surprised you didn't work on this with their research team." He stated, looking at me.

"Ah…well, Naru thought it'd be best if i learned from the people that shared the same blood…" I responded.

"That and he knows how his family can get. Once she has a better hold on her abilities, they'll research them before we head back to Japan." Lin added.

"I see…" Larny said quietly before smiling, "We're done for the day. So head home and get some rest." He said as he stood and walked past. I saw Lin eye him from behind and tilted my head.

"Let's get you home. Naru will be late tonight but his mother is coming to make you dinner." He said and stood. I followed suit and left with him.

"She is?" I asked, he responded with a nod and drove home.

"She's worried about you." I smiled gently and looked outside. Guess i'll be having dinner with Miss. Luella instead of Naru…I'm gonna be exhausted. I smiled at the thought.

Naru's P.O.V

I was staring outside my office window, tapping my pen. I had asked Lin to go with Mai to her training today because i had classes. I'm starting to wish i had just gone instead. I'm too worked up.

"Oliver." I looked up as a girl around my age came over. Inwardly groaning i smiled a fake smile.

"Marie…Hello." I said in greeting. She smiled and leaned over my desk. Her perfume was strong, it took everything in me not to gag. And her shirt was too low cut, skirt too short. Gods if Mai saw her like this i'd be getting death glares.

"How was your trip back to Japan? You weren't gone as long this time around" She stated.

"It was fine. I'll be going back after the semester is finished." I responded and stood. Her perfume was really starting to give me a headache. Mai never wore such strong smells…Her's were soft, clean scents…sometimes floral.

"Aw really? Would you be willing to meet up for some tea tomorrow?"

"Sorry, i have to work after class." I said curtly before waving and walking off. I could feel her anger and confusion. I just smirked.

"Maybeeee bring Mai with you to your next class?" I heard my brother spring into my head. I looked in the mirror at him.

"Maybe i will…" I thought, "Can't be a bad idea…Maybe she'd leave me alone." I chuckled to myself and kept walking. I went to meet Lin as he was picking me up again.

"Did you drop Mai off?" I asked. He nodded and started driving.

"I did. She should be having dinner with your mother right about now. Since you had to go into the office, she wanted to come and check in." He said. I nodded and looked outside.

"Lin…" I started, "I need you to look into something for me."

"And that would be?"

"Mr. Larny." I said, "Something about him is weird. Even Gene thinks so." I mentioned, "He eyes Mai as if she's food. It's annoying."

"Alright…I'll look into him while you're at classes tomorrow." He said, "He gave her tomorrow off so i think maybe you should take her with you. Don't want her to be alone right now with Him after her." He suggested, i nodded in agreement and closed my eyes.

Hopefully she'll be ok with coming with me…
