Time went on and Brooklyn would look at calendar nightly. He couldn't help but wonder how long he was going to be carrying this baby for. The next few months seemed like a long way off yet.
He was stuck here at home and had to find ways to entertain himself. He read a lot of what to expect. He had finally reached the time of where he was now in the pregnancy book. Fox had also given him a book called What to Expect When You're Expecting. The book had much useful information, but then so did the others.
Brooklyn had Elisa rent some pregnancy videos that were supposed to be just for him, but his brothers found out too. They wanted to see the videos as well. They watched them on nights when Angela would go out with her father and Hudson.
Hudson still was limited on patrolling, but he had picked it up again as Brooklyn couldn't patrol at all in his condition.
Brooklyn was still able to go out as long as it was to concerts or the movies. Lex often went with him when Broadway was busy with Angela. The red male wanted to enjoy his time to be able to go out of the castle while he could. When he got bigger, he knew he wouldn't be able to go out at all.
Brook wished he had been home during the month of Christmas to watch some Christmas songs and all. He had been with Elaine all during that time. Well, he had seen some fun Christmas movies and songs in St. Louis but he was thinking of here at home. Oh well. He'll be here for next Christmas if he had anything to say about it, and his little one would also be born by then.
One night while being at an opera that Angela had wanted to go to, he and his brothers had joined her. Angela thought it would be educational to expand their musical interests. So far, Brooklyn wasn't finding it very entertaining.
He kept on getting some weird jolts inside his stomach. He tried to hold still and enjoy the music, but jolts in the music also got the movements. Brooklyn put a hand on his belly and rubbed it. He had both his feet hanging down from the rafter. But when another jolt came and the baby jerked inside him, it made him jump. It made him bring his right leg up but trying not to put pressure on his belly.
His brothers noticed it and his restless behavior.
It kept happening more and more. Brooklyn kept on grunting and groaning in response and he finally couldn't take anymore. "Oh, I can't take it anymore!" he exclaimed and stood up. He opened his wings and took off from the rafters. He had to get away.
Broadway, Angela, and Lex had to go after him. They knew he couldn't be out alone. They took off after him.
Brooklyn came to land on a building outside that studio and he gave his swollen belly a good rubbing. "You really gave me a good startle, little one. I never knew you could move that much." He said.
"Brooklyn, what's wrong?" He then heard Angela. She and his two bros landed behind him.
"Oh, nothing's wrong. I had to get out of there. Sorry, Angela." Brook apologized.
"You seemed pretty restless during the opera." Lex pointed out.
"Yeah. About that, it was nothing intended."
"Angela just wanted to show us something new and you can't take it, is that it?" Broadway demanded.
"No, Broadway. It's just… my baby was kicking me or moving around a lot inside me." Brooklyn explained. At least he had a good reason for pulling out when he felt like it this time. If it had been for not wanting to listen to it at all, that would have really made Broadway mad if he wasn't pregnant.
"Is the little one calmed down now?" Angela asked.
"Yeah, it seems to be." Brook replied.
"I'm sorry, Brooklyn. If I would have known the baby would be upsetting you like that, I wouldn't have asked you to come." Angela explained.
"It's okay. You didn't know. It was interesting music though." Brooklyn stated. "There'll be another time, but I might have to be out of the concerts for a while until after Junior comes."
"Have you decided on a name yet?" Lex asked.
"No. There's so many to pick from. I just haven't decided yet."
"Do you want to go get something to eat?" Broadway asked.
At that, Brooklyn perked up. "Sure."
The four of them went to go get some hot dogs and some soda. Brooklyn had water though. He had read that caffeine was bad for the baby. He also wanted some pickles and pretzels. His appetite was a big one that it rivaled Broadway's.
From a distance, there was someone watching them. Red eyes…
The robot gargoyle who had once been a member of their clan when he was alive had had some solo action for long enough. He was bored with his robotic existence. He had his eyes on the red gargoyle once again. He knew he had called Brooklyn a scrawny one last time he was here, but if he saw him now, he probably wouldn't look so scrawny anymore. Rather, he would be more filled out with the 5-month pregnant belly on him. Any attack on Brooklyn was a big risk, but Coldsteel didn't know he was pregnant.
Coldsteel planned on getting to Brooklyn soon enough. When he got to him, his brother, Coldstone and his mate, Coldfire would never suspect that he wasn't in his robot body anymore. Brooklyn was a logical choice to him, even if he still had lousy fighting skills.
Coldsteel planned to wait until Brooklyn was more or so alone or with just one of his clan before he made his move.
….
When he was home from his little trip to the opera house, Brooklyn found himself feeling quite thirsty for something special. He went to the kitchen area and opened up a refrigerator. He had been drinking a lot of milk and water lately, but now, he was striving for something a little different.
When his eyes landed on the jug, it made him smile. Brook took the jug of apple juice out of the fridge and opened it in a snap. He began chugging the juice down like crazy. He was just having a craving for juice, like apple juice tonight. He ended up drinking most of the jug down.
Then, Broadway and Angela came into the kitchen, seeing him drinking it.
"Brooklyn?" Angela said.
The red male glanced at them to his right and he stopped drinking the jug. He swallowed what he had in his mouth before speaking. "Oh, hi guys." He smiled, blushing.
"Thirsty, were you?" Broadway smirked.
"Yeah. The baby was wanting it pretty badly." Brooklyn replied, putting the lid back on the jug and giving his belly a rub. Most of the juice in the jug was gone.
"You might as well finish the whole jug." Angela insisted.
"Thanks." Brook replied. He was still kind of craving more of it. He took it with him as he left the kitchen. He didn't want to be there as they were going to prepare food for the clan.
Brooklyn went to his room to wait for dinner to be served. The juice was really good. He went back to reading for a while before dinner was done. He went with his clan to eat.
….
A few nights later, most of the whole clan went out on patrols, even Hudson. Bronx came too. Goliath and Bronx were together. Broadway and Lex were together. Hudson and Angela were together.
Brooklyn had to remain behind. He was guarding the castle on his own. He usually didn't stay behind, but his condition made it be so. This was what Coldsteel was waiting for! He grinned to himself triumphantly.
Coldsteel/Iago wasted no time in taking off from his perch on the building he had been taking refuge on the past several nights, biding his time. He no longer turned to stone, but he wanted to get the red one while he was awake.
It had been just after sunset and Brooklyn would likely be headed inside. The living robot cyborg gargoyle landed on one of the lowest battlements and went inside, seeking his prey. He hadn't seen the red male take off with anyone, so likely he was still here, guarding the castle.
Brooklyn had been heading towards the tv room from the parapets. He liked that he could get the tv room more often now, but he still missed patrolling and getting the bad guys put in jail. But then, he heard someone making footfalls. They sounded too foreign to be human or gargoyle. They sounded more robotic. Was one of the robots being active or something?
Brooklyn turned to see what the sound was coming from. "Hello? Is someone there?" he asked curiously but cautiously.
"Just me. Ah! Just the gargoyle I was looking for." Coldsteel peeked into the hallway.
This couldn't be! Brooklyn gasped. Not him! Not Coldsteel!
"Coldsteel! What do you want?!" Brooklyn demanded. He got into a battle stance.
"Why, I want you, of course. As much fun as this robot body has been, it doesn't have the finest features of what a real gargoyle body can provide for me. And I have come to claim my new rightful body this night." Coldsteel explained.
Brooklyn gulped. He tried to shield his belly from the robot. "I'm not going to let you take over my body again, Cyborg!" he glared angrily at him.
"You don't have a choice, Brooklyn. You housed me once before and you will do it again!" Iago exclaimed.
Brooklyn began backing up. This wasn't good and if he found out about his baby, that would be even worse. He knew he had to get out of here.
The robot saw what the red male was doing and he kept advancing on him. He had to make a grab for him before he took off on him.
Brooklyn was just about to take off on the evil cyborg when it happened so fast. The tentacles snapped out of Iago's arms so fast and they coiled around his middle so quickly that he couldn't get away in time. Brooklyn gasped loudly for breath. It had him worried more for his baby how tightly the coils were around his belly.
Iago made sure to grasp his prey tightly with both hands of coils. He heard his victim gasping hard. "Oy, oh, please… oh… let… go…" Brooklyn gasped.
"Nope. You are now my ticket to getting a body back." Iago said in reply, then he picked up the red male and he made sure to aim Brooklyn's head against a wall. He hit his head on the wall. Brook cried out in pain as his head connected with the wall.
Coldsteel dragged the unconscious Brooklyn out to the battlements and took off into the night with him. The cameras had caught it all.
…
The clan soon returned a few hours later and they were ready for their breakfast. Broadway went off to cook and serve.
Goliath went to go check on Brooklyn. He would always check in with him to make sure he was alright in his condition because he knew anything could happen and endanger his life in this condition.
The lavender leader checked his Second's room and the tv room, not there. Then he checked the library and still not there. Where could he be? When he went on to go tell the others to look for him, Owen came out of his office.
"Goliath, you might want to see this." The blonde man declared.
Goliath was perturbed at what Owen would have to show him. Owen showed him to the camera room and there on the screen, was Coldsteel! Goliath gasped in fear. He had his Second in Command! He ran right out of there like a jackrabbit.
"Everyone!" Goliath yelled so loud it got everyone's attention. They all met in the dining room.
"What's going on, Father?" Angela asked.
"We have an emergency. Dinner will have to wait. Owen showed me on camera that while we were gone, Coldsteel broke in and he kidnapped Brooklyn!" Goliath explained in a concerned voice.
"But Brooklyn shouldn't be fighting in his condition." Angela declared.
"Anything could happen to him or the baby." Lex exclaimed.
"We must find the lad now!" Hudson decreed.
"And we will." Goliath determined. "But he could have taken him anywhere."
The clan took off from the castle, their hunger forgotten. There had been many nights that they didn't eat when they were busy fighting enemies or looking for one of their own.
