Mai's P.O.V
After going to campus with Naru that day, i was fuming. That girl had no sense of self worth and I hated it. I don't understand english well but i could pick up a few things here and there about how she talked. I made a decision any day i didn't have training that i would go to campus with him just so she didn't get any idea.
"Mai…Mai." I heard Naru say, trying to get my attention. I blinked and looked up, only for him to poke my head, "you'll get wrinkles if you keep frowning like that." I just pouted and rubbed my head.
"Naru…" I started.
"You have nothing to worry about with Marie. She's always been trying to hit on me and never once have i accepted her advances." He said. I blinked and looked at him. How does he always know what i'm thinking? "You're an open book" he chuckled, taking his tea and sitting down.
"Well, ok, but still. She erks me." I said, sitting across from him.
"Well…we need to talk about a few things changing in your schedule…Maybe with the changes you can continue coming to campus with me." He suggested. I smiled softly and nodded.
"Wait, what changs?" I asked.
"After next week you won't be training with Larny anymore." He said, his demeanor grew dark and i tensed.
"...Why..?" I asked. I may not like the man but he's the closest to my fathers power that i can learn from…But Naru was being quiet. Too. Quiet. "Oliver. Why?" I asked again, more sternly.
He sighed, "Mai, it's been a few months since you got here in England. First month you were resting and enjoying a break at my parents. 2nd month you got thrown into training with a power you didn't know how to use. I searched for Marlyn because you needed a teacher that understood your power level and capabilities. But, in doing so…i put you in more danger." He looked at me, his eyes had gone emotionless but to someone who knew him as well as i did, i could see past that, and saw a very pained expression.
"...What're you saying…" I asked, gripping my teacup.
"Larny…is working with Him." He said. And just like that, my peaceful world was shattered into millions of shards. My body started shaking, and i leaned forward to grip my hair. I felt Naru move over to me and pull me close. "I wasn't aware until Lin looked into it for me…" He said. I couldn't talk…I could barely even breathe. I gripped his shirt sleeves tightly, eyes wide in fear as everything i worked so hard to erase came back to me.
Memories flashing, pain in my back from the whip and bruises reappearing on my wrists and ankles from the shackles. I could feel the blood trickling down my back from old scars opening up.
Larny…NoriYuki…Larny…NoriYuki… It hit like a ton of bricks as my eyes widened.
"Larny…Richard…Larny…" I said in, but my voice came out small.
"Richard Larny..?" He said, "Yes that's his name…" Naru had just confirmed one of my biggest suspicions.
"Get me out of here…Naru…Please get me out…" I muttered. I couldn't see him. All i saw was that dark, blood stained room that i had been held in as a kid. I heard the taunts and the laughter from them both. I was so afraid of NoriYuki alone, i completely forgot…no…maybe i just didn't want to admit it… Larny was his accomplice from the very beginning.
Slowly his warmth was disappearing and i felt the cold, dark floor. "Oh no…no no no please. Don't make me relive it" I practically begged my mind to let me just ignore it. I covered my ears and closed my eyes, ducking in the corner of the dark room. I was shivering and my hair was cut again. I couldn't do this, not again…
"Mai…" I heard a soft voice call to me, looking up i saw Gene and my father. My father looked so heartbroken but he was transparent, he couldn't touch me…
"Mai, sweetheart…you need to snap out of it…" My father said, "This is all in the past now, it's been unlocked but you can overcome it."
"Please…" Gene stated, taking my hand and helping me stand. "Naru is waiting for you…Let's go back to him" He said, i shook and sobbed quietly. I could hear the metal door clink and start to open. Then…nothing… I felt warmth, and like i was floating… peace…finally…
Naru's P.O.V
She was out cold. I had laid her on the couch but she's been out for days. I didn't know what to do for her now. I was trying to wake her up for so long i eventually just said fuck it and called Lin. He called Madoka after a day with no results, who called the team. Now they are all back in England. Annoyingly, i couldn't just send them home.
"So what do you mean she hasn't woken up for 4 days?" Matsusaki asked, hand on her ever growing belly. What is she now? 7 months? She shouldn't be flying.
"Exactly that. She had a PTSD attack and fainted. She's been out since" I stated, harshly. She glared at me. I don't have time to be playing games with these people.
"Why isn't she in the hospital?!" Takigawa yelled, John was checking Mais vitals. I stayed quiet. I knew if i answered i'd lose my cool on them all.
"Because we know why." Lin answered for me, "It happened the same way it always does on cases. But this time, something triggered it."
"If it's PTSD, then maybe she doesn't want to wake up" John stated. "She seems at peace, so she isn't having a nightmare anymore…Maybe she just…feels safe?" He questioned. I looked at Mai, tapping my finger irritably. Then i left the room.
"Oi, Naru where are you going?" Matsusaki yelled after me.
"Leave him alone. As cold hearted as ever." Takigawa stated.
"I don't think that's it" I heard John say as i went into the bathroom, i could still hear them from there. "I think he's just handling this differently than we are. I'm sure he's just as worried."
Damn right i'm worried. Hell, I'm the one that triggered this! I slid down the wall in the bathroom. For once after Eugene died, i felt powerless. Absolutely powerless…
"Naru…" Speak of the devil.
"Gene. What's wrong with her. I know you can get into her head." I thought to him.
"I was with her to begin with…when the memory first surfaced. But she disappeared and i haven't been able to reach her in a while…I've been trying but i don't think i can anymore…" He said, his voice was sad, "I think she's put up that wall…and she's trying to live a life that never happened"
A life that never happened?... "So you think she's gone into this sleep on purpose?" I asked. He nodded.
"It's the only explanation as to why she isn't waking up." He said. "But this isn't your fault. Ok? She was bound to remember at some point…" He tried to comfort me with these words. I just sighed.
"I sped up that process…" I thought.
"Well, you're trying to keep her safe. Sometimes you have to trigger things that aren't pleasant to do that."
I just went silent at that point. I needed her awake, and soon…Before i lost my own mind…
