Anyway on with the story.

Arkunov walked though the academy till he reached the prison. When he got there he saw a man facing a female Twi'lek in a cage, the man was holding down on a trigger activating a slave collar that was attached to the Twi'lek's neck. Arkunov soon discovered the reason for this as soon as the Twi'lek began to talk to the jailer.

Wincing in pain she said "Jerk. Hey if you don't like birds I can do other animals too. Dire-cat, frog dog, Kowakian monkey lizard, you name it."

Ignoring the Twi'lek the jailer turned to Arkunov. "You the new acolyte that Tremel sent?" Arkunov nodded. "Hrmph. He thinks that you're the next coming of Exar Kun."

"Well at least that is one thing that Tremel got right" Arkunov replied.

The jailer continued "Al right this is how it works, I've got three prisoners here for you. All you have to do is decide their sentence based on the crime that they committed. There are usually only two sentences execution or trial by combat, whichever you choose you will carry out the sentence.

"Right lets started this one on the left."

Before the jailer could continue the prisoner spat back "You sick freaks won't get anything new out of me. Just get it over with." Stepping up to the bars of the cage Arkunov took a few seconds to get the measure of her, quickly deciding to test one of the methods of interrogation he had learnt from his father.

"My son, sometimes the best way to siphon information is not through your own power but by making them fear something that they believe is much worse than you."

Frowning the young Arkunov replied "How would I be able to accomplish this father?"

"Make a threat that hints at the unknown. It is a collective fear possessed by many people across the galaxy."

"You can either talk to me or to the inquisitors. And I promise, you will have a much easier time with me" he said.

Strangely she wasn't fazed by this and replied back "I have already met your inquisitors and they didn't get anything out of me."

The jailer shook his head and said "Defiant till the end. As I was saying, she was hired to kill an imperial spy in the Yavin system. Throughout her torture she maintained that she was hired anonymously."

"So you're telling me that she isn't a republic assassin?" Arkunov questioned.

The assassin answered his question saying "I ain't political. I work for whoever pays."

"Well you have hear her story. So what's your decision, execution of trial by combat?"

Arkunov paused for a moment thinking over all the facts that he had heard about. "She will face neither sentence. Send her to imperial intelligence, they could always use some new recruits."

"I don't come cheap" the assassin said.

Nodding at his decision the jailer moved Arkunov onto the next prisoner.

This second one was a human with cybernetic implants just above his right eye. What was most interesting thought was that he was dressed in the armour of a Sith Warrior.

"Please I am a fellow Sith judge me with an open mind and grant me a Trial by Combat" he pleaded.

Ignoring this Arkunov just said "Your name now."

The jailer answered for him "This pile of filth is Devotek. He was once a valued Sith champion. That is till he screwed up an important mission which caused more than a thousand imperial deaths. Now he is this pathetic pile of scum."

Trying to turn things to the better for him Devotek said "I severed for over twenty years. Then I make one mistake and I am thrown in here. Now I am left here to rot. Please let me feel the weight of a blade once more."

Arkunov sneered back at him, someone who was as useless as this did not deserve to live. "You shall feel the weight of a blade once more" for a moment the fallen warrior looked hopeful "in your throat!"

Before he had a chance to reply Arkunov reached out with the force and choked him. Devotek fell to his knees from the pain and Arkunov kept his promise. He drew his war blade and thrust the pointed tip through the throat of the disgraced warrior. Withdrawing the bloody weapon Arkunov turned as the jailer said to him "Good I won't have to look at his miserable face any more. Thank you."

"Don't mention it."

The jailer grunted and continued "Well this last ones a bit of a puzzle. His name is Brehg and he is accused of supplying forged documents to republic spies." A male Nemoidian sat in the cage, scanning him up and down Arkunov spotted signs of recent torture all over the aliens body. "Strangely he maintains that he is innocent despite being severely tortured."

As soon as the jailer finished speaking the Brehg quickly replied in his own language "That's because I am innocent. I had absolutely nothing to do with forging those papers. I was set up!"

Arkunov raised an eyebrow sceptically and asked "who would go to all that trouble, just to set you up?"

"They would do it because I am the perfect candidate for something like this." Brehg said "I did some time in a republic jail for forgery. So it gave whoever did this a fall guy if there operation was discovered. Anyway ever since I got out I have been completely straight, I swear no illegal activity."

Running his hands through his beard the jailer said "Hmm. He hasn't ever wavered from that line and the evidence is circumstantial. I suppose it's possible that he didn't do it."

Arkunov paused for a moment and thought through the evidence in his head. If he decided to release the Nemoidian he would lose respect among the Sith in the academy and that definitely would not improve his chances of moving up in the ranks. Finally he said "I don't care if he is innocent or not. Torture him enough and he will confess!". To prove his point he seized Brehg in a force choke and brought him to his knees.

"Please no it's just not fair!"

"Shut up you fidgety fool the decisions been made" the jailer said "You're an interesting one kid, I can see why people are keeping an eye on you. I will be transmitting your results to Overseer Tremel. He will then tell you what he thinks of your choices."

Nodding curtly, Arkunov left the jail.

Okay so that is that. Tell me what you thought of the little glimpse into Arkunov's past and then tell me if you think that there should be more.

Until next time.
