Chapter 2: Delicate
You had basically been talking to Brittany nonstop since the kiss a few weekends ago. You wanted to make plans for that date you promised her but Cheerios had you both so busy, you hadn't gotten a chance to iron out the details.
Brittany was way funnier than you had originally thought. Her humor was a little odd but she made you laugh every day. Multiple times a day. You could see how she quickly became popular and had made what seemed to be fast friends with many people.
Dark jeans and your Nikes, look at you
Oh, damn, never seen that color blue
Just think of the fun things we could do
'Cause I like you
You don't even know what you want do for a first date. Considering you had never been on a date with a girl before. You would just let Brittany figure it out since she was the one who asked you. She did just say 'hang out' when she asked originally. The more you texted and the couple phone calls she had rephrased it into the word date. But she was also very understanding of your uncertainty. You didn't know what to do. Maybe just see where it all went.
You must like me for me
Yeah, I want you
Brittany must have had a superpower almost as powerful as your Mexican third eye with her intuition. She knew exactly when you needed a funny text during the day.
We can't make any promises
Now can we, babe?
She had been a little more attentive to you at school. Not anything that would catch anyone's attention per say, but she'd found you between second and third period. She'd come up to you and say a quick hello while you were switching books around. Her third period was on the same hall. She seemed quite content to walk you to your class. She was really cute when she asked about it too.
Is it cool that I said all that?
Is it chill that you're in my head?
B: U don't mind I walk with you to 3rd right?
S:Nope. It's been making my morning a little better
'Cause I know that it's delicate (Delicate)
Is it cool that I said all that?
B:Kewl. Samies. ;) That beautiful smile goes along way on a crappy morning
Is it too soon to do this yet?
'Cause I know that it's delicate
You do have your last class of the day together. You sit on opposite sides of the room. You never really paid attention until the last couple weeks. Brittany is close to the front class room and you're in the back room. You can't really help but stare at her. She isn't doing anything particularly special but playing with her hair and tapping her pencil. But she keeps catching your attention at the most random times. You have never been this focused on a boy. There was just something about her.
Sometimes I wonder; when you sleep
Are you ever dreaming of me
Practice had been even more insane today that it had been all year. You have an invitational this weekend. The closer gets to a competition the crazier Sue gets. You would think she'd give you a break but she's not a sane woman.
You can practically feel your body screaming as you drag yourself into your bedroom at almost 9 p.m. According to Sue, you and all your fellow cheerleaders can sleep when your champions. You didn't need sleep or rest. You were young.
Your phone ringing catches your attention. It was Brittany Facetime calling you. She hadn't done that yet. She had only called you on the phone a couple of times. Never on Facetime.
Sometimes when I look into your eyes
I pretend you're mine, all the damn time
'Cause I like you
"Hey," She smiled brightly into the video feed. "I meant to ask you at before you left if you caught what homework we got for last period today. I doubt I'll be awake long enough to even get it done. Sue is INSANE"
"Yea, I'll text you the directions." You nodded in agreement at her comment about Coach Sue. "You have no idea. I had been hearing horror stories about her since I was a cheerleader for little league football."
"Tiny Santana in a cheerleader uniform," Brittany giggled a little bit and winked, "I bet you were as cute as you are now."
You can feel yourself start to blush at her compliment. She had no trouble making you feel something. It wasn't anything boys ever made you feel. When Quinn would compliment you on your on your wardrobe or a new hair style, it didn't make you feel anything special.
"I think I can say you do have good taste," You smirk a little bit, "I could probably find a photo to text you later. "
Is it cool that I said all that (Isn't it?)
Is it too soon to do this yet? (Isn't it, isn't it?)
"So, there was a real reason I called," Brittany pauses for a second and rubbed the back of her neck. "I know you usually sit with Quinn on the bus," She readjusted the camera and leaned down with her head leaning on her hands. "This isn't a like 'hang out' situation either. I know where you figuring things out. But it'd be super awesome if we could sit together either to or from the competition."
'Cause I know that it's delicate
Isn't it delicate?
She was always reassuring you she wanted to get to know you better and your pace was always something she was aware of. She had only brought up the kiss you shared once. It was also to compliment you. She quickly realized you were a little less courageous when you were sober.
The thought of spending the extra time with Brittany at close proximity made you heart flutter a little bit. Maybe your date hadn't gotten planned yet, but this seemed to be a suitable substitution for now.
"I think that would be fun," You offer her a small smile. "I would like that a lot. It would be a nice change from hearing Quinn ramble about how nervous she is the whole time."
"Plus I'm awesome and clearly hilarious," Brittany's attention was caught when she and you both heard a deep meow. "Apparently, it's dinner time for my furry friend. Can I text you later after I get showered and start on my homework?"
"Yeah, I should be up for awhile," You turned the camera towards my desk with all my homework spread out. "At this rate I'll actually be up forever."
"Awesome," She smiled at you softly; "I'd miss you if you went to bed too early. I'll talk to you in a little bit."
She took you a little by surprises with the cute confession. You said your goodbye quickly and let out a breath you didn't even realize you had been holding in. You can't remember ever waiting so impatiently for a text message before.
