Prologue:
It was a late night, and everyone was home with their loved ones. The neighborhood was completely silent, not a house was stirring, and no one heard the cruel noises, insults and aggressive beating the poor girl took in the blue two bedroom home at the far end of the street.
If you asked anyone in that neighborhood, they would tell you that they weren't even aware a girl lived in that home.
It was shocking, the reality that no one truly knows one's neighbors. And no one dared bother the man that lived in that home at the far end of the street.
He was a large man, with grey coal like beady eyes. His hair, salt and pepper, with a 5 o'clock shadow constantly shaded his face. The stench of liquor was escaping his pores on a daily basis. He was almost never sober.
He would stumble, and mumble his words that it was evident to anyone how sloshed he was. He worked 5 days a week at a miserable 9 - 5 daily job at a hardware store, Lucky's. If you need it Lucky's has it! was the slogan.
He didn't look like much, even if he weighed a solid 195 lbs at 5'7. He had another vice; women. He liked them, so much that a new chick stayed every night.
He wasn't unattractive, and he wasn't un-charming. . which is probably why no one ever bothered him. He was unassuming in his day to day life that no one knew the secret life he lived.
Now that girl we mentioned. She was young, about 20 now. And she had been his "prize" ever since her mother left her behind. This man, wasn't her father. And her mother didn't intend to leave her. . She had been strangled by the very man who had her captive.
This story is not about the man, no. . this story is about the girl. She will have trials to face and triumphs to celebrate. But first, to be free of that very man who just came home.
