TITLE: Heart to Heart
SUMMARY: Dana talks with some one dear to her.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of them. Sob That's so sad! If I did, though, I'd share.
The granite headstone was cold and hard beneath her fingers. The roses from last week were flaccid, their heads bowed in a reflection of the death that surrounded them, as if they too had succumbed to it. As the pretty redhead knelt, reading the name on the polished rock, a flutter in her lower abdomen reminded her that she was no longer alone in the world. Pressing her hand gently against her still flat stomach, she smiled weakly.
"Don't worry baby. I know you're here. I could never forget about you, little one."
Then, blinking back tears, Dana Scully spoke quietly to the mound of earth beneath her knees.
"Well Missy, here I am. I brought some new flowers; Mom'sroses she brought have wilted. I'm sorry I haven't been by in such a long time, but you know how it goes. You get caught up in the present moment and forget that there are more important things in life, like talking to your sister who died because of you. I have so much to tell you, and I don't quite know where to start. Well, I suppose the beginning would be best.
"Remember how much I wanted a baby? I used to talk about it when I came to visit you. And remember how my in vitro failed? Well, some how, I got my wish. Mulder and I are going to have a baby! I just found out two days ago. I laughed at the doctor when she told me. I thought she was joking. But she was serious, and showed me the tests to prove to me that I am, in fact, pregnant. I really am going to have a baby, and it really is going to be Mulder's!"
Through her tears, she smiled, as if untroubled. But when she continued to speak, the smile slipped off her face and she grew solemn and sad again.
"Oh Missy! Mulder's gone! He was taken, just like his sister. I don't get it Miss! They took him, and left me without my rock at the greatest time of need. What am I going to do?"
Dana finally broke down, trying desperately to regain her composure, but failing wretchedly. She began crying, her arms tight around her body as though that alone could shield her from further pain and misfortune. As she cried, footsteps sounded behind her. Arms wrapped lovingly around her shaking shoulders, offering strength she did not possess. A calm voice whispered lovingly in her ear.
"Come Dana, let's go home."
Dana twisted adn saw that it was her mother who held her. Dana was still crying, unable to move, so the two of them knelt there, holding each other tight. AS her tears dried and her sobs quieted, Dana looked up at her mother, Maggie Scully.
"Mom, how did you know I would be here?" she asked, her voice soft with unshed tears. Maggie looked down and gently brushed a stray strand of hair from her daughter's face.
"I didn't. I was coming to speak to Missy myself, and saw you talking. I saw you crying and couldnt' stay back any longer."
They embraced again, this time with subtle smiles on their faces. Getting to her feet, Maggie helped Dana stand. Then, holding hands, they walked slowly to their cars. Dana glanced back and blew a kiss to Melissa Scully's gravesite.
