Epilogue
A couple of months passed since Gabriel's and Nathalie's honeymoon. The alarm clock rang in the room. A hand came out of the covers to turn it off and the figure settled back on the bed.
"No, Nathalie, we have to work."
Gabriel got up from his bed, quite energetic.
He watched her carefully. She looked sick.
"You look pale" Gabriel gently caressed her cheek "Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes, don't worry, if I stay in bed for a few hours, I'll get better. But I don't want to leave you alone with all that work." Nathalie took her hand.
"Don't worry, I can handle it just for today, you just worry about resting." He kissed her on the forehead and went to the door of his room. "If you need anything, let me or Adrien know, okay?"
Gabriel closed the door slowly, trying not to disturb her too much. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. She woke up a few hours later. She felt that the world was spinning around her, feeling a slight dizziness. She tried to get up, but she went back to lie down to try to recover a little. She took some sickness pills that managed to relieve her a bit.
Nathalie went to take a shower, with hot water. She came out in her bathrobe and a towel on her head and sat on the bed.
From one moment to another she felt her stomach turn and she ran to the bathroom, locking it. After that she brushed her teeth and touched up her makeup a bit, which she had messed up after that vomiting episode.
She left the room and went to her husband's office. She looked at the painting that had recently been installed in the main entrance. There was her and Gabriel, with Adrien on the day of their wedding. She smiled while seeing the painting. She got off her with her tablet and went into the study.
"You look much better, my love." Gabriel went to her desk and kissed her cheek. "Take as much workload as you can, I don't want you to overexert yourself if you can't."
The smell of her cologne made her dizzy and nauseous. She couldn't contain the gag that attacked her and turned her face away from her bringing her hand to her mouth. But that didn't stop her husband from noticing.
"What's wrong?" Gabriel asked worried. Nathalie just waved her hand trying to unconcern him.
"Sorry, I'm just a little lightheaded…"
"But my cologne never makes you lightheaded..." Gabriel ran one of her hands down her back.
"I don't know, maybe it was something I ate."
Nathalie insisted to Gabriel that she was fine and that she would get over it. He was not very convinced, but he left the atelier for a moment to do some errands. She continued to work on her computer and then had a light lunch.
Adrien came home from school a few hours later. He went straight to greet Nathalie who was in the office. He opened the door only to find her hugging the trash can, perhaps throwing back what little she consumed at lunch.
"Nathalie, are you okay? You look really bad."
She wiping away the small tears that had formed in her eyes answered him in the calm way.
"Don't worry Adrien, I'm fine. It's just a stomach virus, I'll get over it."
Adrien didn't seem very convinced. It had been days since he'd seen her like this, and he knew that a stomach virus didn't last that long.
At night, when it was time to sleep, Nathalie entered the bedroom with Gabriel, and laid down slowly, since she felt quite sick. Gabriel noticed that she was quite pale, more than that same morning that she had left.
"Are you okay?" Gabriel lay down next to her softly so as not to disturb her.
"I've been feeling tired, that's all" he sighed, burying her head in the pillow.
"That's not what Adrien told me" He took her chin gently and made her look at him "What do you think it could be?"
"Well, I thought maybe I got some virus. Or maybe the effects of the peacock came back." With Nathalie's look you could tell that she was very worried.
Gabriel denied.
"Don't say that, it must be something else."
Gabriel laid at her side and they both closed their eyes. Suddenly Gabriel remembered something very important that he saw on his phone and that might explain why Nathalie was sick. She opened her eyes surprised by his sudden action.
Gabriel took the phone from the nightstand, looked for his calendar where all his schedules were. Some red squares also appeared on it.
"I found out that you also synchronized your period dates when you went to career day with Adrien months ago, Nath." She blushed and got up to look at her cell phone next to her husband. She scrolled down the calendar to the month in which they were noticing missing charts from previous months.
"I'm late" It was such an impression that Nathalie was speechless.
"Could you be pregnant?"
"I hadn't thought about it… —Nathalie now that she thought about it she made a lot of sense "I was so busy that I didn't think about it."
"Emilie had the same symptoms as you do when she found out she was pregnant with Adrien."
Gabriel ran his hand down her stomach until he reached where he wanted to check. He noticed an almost imperceptible bulge in her belly.
"We'll go to the doctor to get you tested tomorrow, with no exceptions."
Nathalie did not want to remain silent in the face of the question that she kept to herself for a long time.
"But do you really want to have another child? And so soon?"
Gabriel linked his hands with her.
"I would be very excited to have a child of yours, my love. Also, do you know how long Adrien has been asking me for a brother or sister?"
She laughed, remembering all the times Adrien told Emilie and Gabriel that he wanted a little brother or sister.
"Everything will be fine. I will be with you and between the two of us we will be able to overcome all the problems we have, mon coeur."
He kissed her right there. Sweetly and soft. In those moments they could only think about their future together.
Years passed and all things returned to normal. When they confirmed the pregnancy they felt happy. Adrien especially was very happy. He always wanted to be a big brother.
The new member of the family brought happiness to everyone. Gabriel was very happy with the birth of his daughter. Years ago, he believed that he would never be a father again, but fate proved him wrong. Although he and Emilie tried several times, it just didn't happen and he decided to give up on the idea. Long before Adrien was born, Gabriel wanted a girl with all his heart and his wish finally came true.
And not just his, but Adrien's as well. He pampered his little sister a lot. He always wanted something like that since he was a child, and those wishes grew even more when he saw the sibling relationship that Luka and Juleka have.
Little Celine was Gabriel's pride, because she, although she was a little reserved and shy at times, she had a great talent for fashion design. And not only that, but she loved his brother Adrien very much, and Marinette who, like her father, was her role model.
Years later, Adrien told Marinette and they both got married at Notre Dame, and later celebrated outside of Paris. It was a day no one would forget. As their wedding gift, Gabriel and Nathalie gave them a fairly comfortable apartment close to their place of work, in the heart of the city.
Nathalie, who now also had some age marks, approached her husband's office, who had told her that he would be working on some very important designs for the company. Though she knew that wasn't entirely true.
Clearing her throat and knocking on the door I wait for her answer. She heard laughter like a small child muffled by the door.
"I'm going in."
She looked around, trying to find her granddaughter. It was then when Nathalie noticed the little feet peeking out from behind one of the decorations in the atelier.
"Gabriel, I know the girl is there"
"I don't know what you're talking about" he said with his stern look, as if he were trying to win a staring battle with her. Rolling her eyes, Nathalie walked over to where the little visitor was.
"Emma, get out of there. Your mom came to pick you up" Nathalie exclaimed, surreptitiously passing her gaze around the room.
A little girl of about 4 years old came out from her hiding place, laughing. She had light blonde hair with green eyes. She looked a lot like Emilie. "Grandma Natalie. Can I stay a little longer? Please?" asked the little girl pouting.
"I'm sorry Emma, but your mother awaits. But we will be looking forward for you to come."
The boy hugged his grandfather's legs and went to his grandmother who took his hand and with her other hand made a farewell sign.
"Goodbye, Grandpa Gabriel."
Gabriel sighed when Nathalie closed the door. Becoming a grandfather had given him a new perspective on life. He saw the photos on top of his desk. In it were photos of all his closest relatives. A large picture with the family taken about a month ago. Marinette and Adrien with their first daughter: Emma. Emma the firstborn, who had inherited her father's green eyes and blonde hair, but she had her mother's attitude. A living portrait of his first wife.
The door opened again to reveal Nathalie. A small expression of joy graced her face.
"Emma wants to come see you again this weekend."
"I'm sure it's her birthday" Gabriel said, setting his Stylus aside.
"Did you buy her the skates she asked for? She's still too young for that."
"No, but I don't think she will deny this stuffed animal I made for her" she went to Nathalie's desk drawer showing her the big stuffed animal with the same design.
Nathalie approached him and holding him by the shoulders she gave him a kiss on the chin.
A knock on the door alerted them both.
"Come in"
The door opened again, to give way to a girl of approximately 14 years old, with black hair.
"Hi dad" she walked over to hug him. He welcomed the hug, giving her a kiss on her hair.
"Celine, my sweet daughter. Did you had a good morning?"
"Yes, dad," she said, planting a kiss on her father's cheek.
Gabriel observed the features of his daughter. She looked way too much like Nathalie. She had black hair with part of it tied in the back with a brooch while the rest of it fell down her back. But definitely, her blue eyes were the same shade and shape as Gabriel's. She was a girl with a lot of character, but she cared a lot about her loved ones, especially her parents and her half-brother. She was the darling of the house and the adoration of her parents.
"I'm going to see Bustier."
"Madame Bustier's son? Do you plan to have a boyfriend before your sixteen? Gabriel asked him directly."
She blushed at that mention and laughed nervously.
"But what are you saying dad, we're just friends. Well I'll see you tonight mom, dad."
She walked away with a grin from ear to ear.
"You can tell from miles away, isn't it?" Nathalie mentioned passing her arms around his neck.
"Well, I wasn't very bright on that subject before"
Nathalie shook her head, amused.
"You're right about that, my dear."
Gabriel took her by the waist and leaned down to give her a kiss that she gladly received.
They were both happy with the great family they had now and the one that would continue their legacy in the future. Because the catalyst arrived at the right time to change everything.
The end
And we had come to the end of this story. It gives me some nostalgia to finish this fic. It started as my first Gabenath fic in 2017 (Just when the collector's episode premiered) and that's when I saw the potential of Gabenath from the second season and that was strengthened even more with episodes like Style Queen and Heroes' Day and the third season only fed my inspiration for this fic that had been left stranded because I really didn't know how to develop the story and also I didn't have a lot of time because of my university schedule and responsibilities. What I saw in seasons 2 and 3 made me rethink the fic and it turned out much better than the original version.
The original story was very different from this one. In that version it was Gabriel who made the first move and asked Nathalie to get married so that Adrien would have a mother (plus Gabriel in this version was already getting over Emilie). Also, it touched on Adrien's refusal to let his mother go. The only thing that stayed from the original was the epilogue with a few changes and with a name for the nameless Gabenath child I created.
I'm glad the way the series wrote the ship and that Adrien ended up accepting a possible relationship between his father and Nathalie. Especially since a lot of things in the original fic didn't make any sense at all.
It is worth mentioning that another great inspiration for this fic was a well-known telenovela created in my country called "Yo soy Betty la fea" (the original version). When I was about to give up the fic, this telenovela gave me a lot of inspiration too.
Special thanks to the "Gabenath Book Club and Art Club" discord server. Without their support this story would never have seen the light of day. It's a server full of people who also ship Gabenath and it's quite nice to be there.
Thanks also to everyone who read this fic, added to their favorites, and commented on the fic. I really appreciate it very much.
And with this I officially end this story. Regardless, I'll be finishing some story-related one-shots if you're interested. Also, I had some Gabenath fics planned and some art. You can find me as theredeyeswolf in all my socials.
