A/N: Okay the season finale came on awhile back but I wanted to add my own piece to it. It's my take on what could've happened with Ellie and Brass after she ran off… btw how can I get a beta?
"Daddy, Daddy!" A tiny little blond girl pulled on the arm of a young Jim Brass. He picked up the girl, Ellie Brass, and hugged her. She gave him an Eskimo kiss before he set her back down. "Can you tell me a story, Daddy?" Ellie pleaded, holding her hands like she was praying.
Jim smiled, answering, "Sure, sweatheart." He sat down in a sofa chair in his and his wife's living room, letting Ellie crawl on his lap to listen. He told her about the bad guys he had caught the past few days and she sat, wide-eyed, smiling up at him. "Remember, Ellie," Jim looked at her seriously now. "I know I catch the bad guys, but that's my job, okay? You tell me if there's a bad guy that's bothering you." He kissed the top of her head before letting her off his lap.
"Okay, Daddy," Ellie smiled. "Daddy?…
"Daddy?" The present day Brass woke with a start. He was still in his hospital bed at Desert Palm's. He looked up, still trying to focus on the blur in front of him. That blur slowly morphed into his daughter, and adult Ellie Brass. Though, Jim had to admit, she didn't always act like an adult. At the moment, however, he doesn't think about the fact that she had been nothing but someone's hoar when he saw her in L.A. or the fact that she'd ran out on him when he woke up from his coma after getting shot. All he could think about was the scared look in her eyes as she watched him. He still had some Ivs running into him, and he knew he looked exhausted.
"Ellie," Jim muttered, reaching his hand out towards her. He winced, getting ready for her to turn and leave again, but she slowly took his hand. They both stared at eachother, tears flowing down their faces. "I'm sorry, Ellie." Jim said, as strongly as he could. The physical pain from the bullet and the emotional pain from Ellie was overwhelming. He was scared to lose his baby girl again. He knew it was probably humanly impossible to beable to start a new father-daughter relationship with her, and have a clean slate, but he didn't want to lose hope.
"I'm sorry I left," Ellie cried, squeazing his hand tightly. She looked down, wiping away the tears that were pouring from her eyes.
Jim smiled, "I was just remembering about how I would tell you about catching the bad guys… you thought I was invincible back then… I only wish I could've protected you from the bad guys that hurt you." Ellie frowned.
"I know, Daddy," she said. "But you know you can't do everything… I know it doesn't help much, but I love you, Daddy. You're still a hero… but I can't stay." She quickly bent down, kissing him on the forehead like he'd used to for her those many years ago, and she left the room.
Watching Ellie disappear down the hospital's hallway, Jim winced once more. Though, this time, the pain wasn't at all from his bullet injury, it was utterly and entirely from the void that his daughter had caused in his heart.
The EndA/N: um.. how was it?
