Meanwhile…
Kunikida remained hidden behind the car, still trying to decide upon what to do with the two guards standing watch. He knew that shooting them would attract unwanted attention, but he also knew that he couldn't take both of them in a fight, when they both likely had weapons and would not be as afraid to use them as he was.
With his mind made up, he grabbed his gun, and prepared to shoot.
He quickly got up from his place behind the car, seeing the two guards and immediately aiming his gun at one of them. Pulling the trigger, it hit its target with unmatched precision. Piercing the man's heart and killing him instantly. The man's body slumped to the ground with blood pooling out of his chest. That sorted out one of the guards, however the guard next to him wasted no time in firing his gun at Kunikida, who tried his best to dodge, but found that the bullet had grazed his arm.
Kunikida had no time to see how bad his injury was, before he looked back at the guard. He was forced to hold his gun with one hand while firing sideways, as he fired two shots. One bullet landed harmlessly to the side, while the other impaled itself in the man's leg. The man crumpled inward, as he looked down at his leg where there was a steady flow of blood escaping.
Kunikida quickly ran towards the man, having to ignore the pain radiating up his arm, seeing that he had become disarmed. Kunikida elbowed the man's chest, causing the man to lose any balance he still had left, and then swiftly turned to kick the man's stomach. The man's face contorted in pain, as he finally lost all balance and fell backwards, hitting his head against the side of the warehouse causing pain to erupt throughout his entire body. Kunikida took his gun and aimed it directly at the man's heart, however was momentarily stopped by the sudden burst of pain shooting up his arm.
The man saw Kunikida's distraction, and took his chance to use his uninjured leg to swipe Kunikida off his feet. Kunikida stumbled back, not having expected an attack from the injured man, dropping his gun to the side. He was given no time to catch himself before the man was up again. He punched Kunikida in the stomach and raised his fist to strike again, but his fist was caught. Kunikida had seen the second attack coming and had put his hand out in order to stop the man's second punch. The man looked at him in shock, clearly not having expected him to have been able to react so quickly. Kunikida threw a strong punch to the man's chest, causing him to yell out in pain. Kunikida let the man fall to the ground once more, as he grabbed his discarded gun from the ground, and aimed it directly at the man's skull.
He fired without hesitation. The man's body immediately went limp as blood oozed from his head. Both of the guards were now lying at the side, each of their bodies having a blood pool around them. Kunikida knew that any bystander who saw this would call the authorities, and he couldn't allow that to happen, not with Dazai behind that door.
Despite their bickering, he and Dazai had grown close over the years. They understood each other, to some extent. To put it simply, Kunikida knew that Dazai had a plan. That was just who Dazai was. Even with everything that had happened, Dazai would not have come down here without some kind of genius plan. Now Kunikida didn't want anyone to come in and ruin that scheme. Which was why he was planning to watch from the sidelines, and only intervene if he felt it was truly necessary. So Kunikida dragged both bodies off to the side, thankfully it was dark enough that anyone walking past would not notice the blood that was now staining the ground. This warehouse had been chosen as it was far enough away from the public view, so gunshots were not easily heard, and bodies were not easily seen. Which was exactly what Kunikida had needed. But also what Fyodor had needed.
Kunikida continued to walk around the side of the warehouse, gun in hand. He made sure to remain below the window line, wary of anyone who could be on the lookout for intruders. Eventually he found a good spot that hid him behind the bushes and allowed him to easily see inside the warehouse, so he carefully looked into the window, to see Dazai in what seemed to be a standoff between him and… Fyodor. As well as the man that Kunkida was now able to recognise as Odasaku.
Kunikida continued to watch the scene, unable to hear what any of them were saying, but still following along in tense anticipation. He saw as Dazai tensed, and as Odasaku seemed to take a battle stance before suddenly charging at Dazai, giving him no time to block the attack. Kunikida could only watch on in silence at the ensuing battle, not knowing whether he should intervene or not.
Dazai barely saw the attack coming before he felt a fist hit his face with unrivalled force, sending him sprawling across the room. Stopping himself, he looked up just in time to see another punch coming swiftly towards him. However, he had enough time to duck and roll to the side. A safe distance away from his attackers reach.
His attacker... his old friend... no. He had to stop himself from going down that path again. His old friend wasn't here right now. Someone else had taken over his mind and body, and all Dazai was seeing was a shadowed reflection of his former friend. Unless, there's a chance...
No. There is no chance. Oda died 4 years ago. Oda died. He died. He was not here now. The faster Dazai just accepted that, the easier this would be. He didn't know how conscious of himself Oda was, but that didn't matter. He knew what he had to do. Just as Oda had been given the order from Fyodor to kill him, he had now given himself the order... to kill Odasaku.
Dazai sensed the next attack more than he saw it, as he was able to duck below Oda's punch before swiftly returning an attack of his own. Using Oda's own momentum against him. The punch sent Oda back flying no more than a few feet back before he was able to crouch to the ground, steadying himself again.
He looked up, only to see Dazai running towards him, arm already moving towards his face. He was able to evade the punch, only to turn to deliver a kick to Dazai's unprotected side.
Dazai was forced to recoil back in pain, but he quickly pushed it down. Unwilling to give his opponent any openings in his defences. But he was already too late. Oda had utilised the little time it took for Dazai to straighten himself again, to pull his gun from his holster and aim it at his head.
He almost didn't duck in time. He could feel the bullet graze the side of his head as the air around was pushed out of the way. He looked up to see Oda staring down at him. Gun loaded and pointed directly at him. Ignoring any of the lingering pain that was beginning to spread through his body, he charged towards him.
Not expecting such a heads on attack, Oda quickly fired a messy shot, leading to it missing Dazai yet again. He then felt the gun being forcefully pushed out of his nads, as he absentmindedly heard it clatter to the floor. Before he felt a harsh blow delivered to his chest.
He had managed to get the gun away from Odasaku. As he heard it fall to the ground, he tore his attention back to the dead man he was fighting. He balled his fist and hit Oda's chest, knocking the breath out of him and almost forcing him to his knees.
Seeing his momentary advantage, he ran towards the discarded gun, and aimed. He saw Oda's eyes looking towards him. Full of shock. Full of life. He hesitated. His finger moved away from its place on the trigger, as the gun was lowered slightly.
But seeing Dazai's hesitation, Oda unwillingly took the advantage he had been given. He rushed towards him and kicked him harshly, sending him flying into the wall as the loose gun fell from his hands.
Dazai looked up from the hole that he had created in the wall. His whole body ached, as his limbs refused to move. His downcast eyes then caught sight of a shadow, he looked up, only to see the standing figure of his once dead friend.
Oda looked down at him. Gun, now in his hands. He raised it. His finger never left the trigger, as he prepared to fire.
Dazai's head dropped in defeat as his eyes shut, hiding himself from the world. I am sorry Odasaku, I could not do it. I could not kill you.
The gun was aimed directly at the defeated man's head. Oda looked down once more, and with no hesitation, pulled the trigger.
Authors note: I am terribly sorry to leave you guys on another cliffhanger like this! But I do have to admit that I enjoy doing it ;)
