"Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, it's a boy!"
"The new mother lifts her head weakly up from her damp pillow. Her dry lips part to reveal a line of white teeth as she gasps in joy; perspiration glistens against every surface of exposed skin but every drop of blood and sweat is worth the small angel held there in the doctor's arms.
Mrs. Taylor looks up to her husband, to their new child being cleaned so close by, and then back to his father.
Love shines in her watery eyes as she confirms their choice. "Nate, your name?"
The new father accepts his red-skinned son from the nurse. The child instantly starts to squall and his father, tears streaming down his face, chuckles, totally overcome. "Yes. Yes, he looks like a little Nathaniel."
After a few minutes, he passes the child to its mother. He leans down, gently encompassing his whole little family in his arms. "I suppose they always say this," he says, stroking the soft, damp down atop his son's head, "but he does have your eyes."
His wife laughs and kisses his cheek. She rests her head against her husband's and addresses their son in a whisper. "You're going to be so handsome and brave and strong, little Nate, just like your Daddy." Glancing up in a look filled with love at her husband, she continues in her welcome to the world.
"And just like your Daddy...you're going to make the world so much better just because you're here. You're going to do so many wonderful things, little Nate."

Few, if any, specifics are known about Commander Taylor's past before his military career; this should explain the vagueness of setting. July 11th is Stephen Lang's birthday.
The chapter title is the meaning of the name Nathaniel. Its origin is Hebrew.
