What could possibly go wrong when a bunch of biotic students are being taught by another biotic who has freakishly strong ones? Kaidan didn't think much of it until Gemma started showing them off. The room wouldn't last much longer with the moves she was pulling.
"You have to remember to control your endurance. I've fainted how many times now?" she asks, looking at Kaidan.
He sat on the bench, more than happy to watch the display. "Four times," he answers. "And four implants later," he adds. The kids all looked shocked.
"How do you control them?" Jason asked, he was the most invested in this conversation. He wanted to know everything from Gemma.
"I don't really. They are like a second being to me. I can usually control them if my emotions are controlled. They can lash out a lot," she explained. They heard Kaidan snort sarcastically.
"Tell me about it," he slyly says. The kids laugh. Gemma smirks at him, she did still feel bad for lashing out so much in previous arguments. But it's the past and at least they could now laugh about it.
"So, who wants to try fighting me?" she asks, feeling pumped. The kids all stood back in fear of her. "Jesus, I'm not scary. Am I?"
"Gem, you took down a Banshee like it was a husk. Course the kids are scared of you," Kaidan answers. One of the shorter lads, Jackson steps forward. The kid was practically shaking. He was short for seventeen, short dark-haired and wore the face of someone who barely spoke and hides in books.
"I will, ma'am," he sternly says. Gemma smiles at him, waving for him to come into the middle of the gym. They both stood on either side of the blue mat.
"I won't hurt you, I promise. I will throw some moves out at you, just concentrate on deflecting them first," she says. Jackson nods sternly, he was really just trying to prove something. Jason sometimes tormented him for having crap barriers.
Gemma throws a warp at the floor, she dialled the biotics right down for him. Her biotics also seemed to understand and her implant barely made the normal thumping sensation it would. She mentally thanked them for being careful... for once. Jackson steps back when the warp stops near him, it is very bright. Gemma flared blue, it was a calming sea blue.
"Come on, Jackson," Jason shouts. Some of the other lads laughed at him. Kaidan put a stern hand on his shoulder.
"Calm it, kid," he warns. Whilst he didn't mind some light banter, Jason was obviously distracting Jackson. Jason nods and apologizes.
Gemma threw two more warps that came from his left and right. Jackson threw a barrier around himself, but it wasn't enough. The warp instantly crushed his barrier and pushed him to the floor with a thud.
"You okay?" Gemma asks with worry. Jackson quickly gets up, nodding at her. Gemma nods in return, she lets her biotics engulf her body and charges him, but she stops before they make contact. She was inches from him, Jackson was standing like a deer in headlights. "You need to stop that," she warns.
Jackson cranes his head at her. "You freeze," Kaidan shouts. "You will be killed if you let that happen." Gemma turns to look back at him. Jackson was easily scared, he was just a jumpy person.
"I can't help it," he says defensively.
"Yes, you can. Stop expecting the worst every time," Gemma explains. She walks back to her previous space. "Attack me this time."
Jackson tries to pull Gemma, but her own biotics almost slaps it off course. He then throws a warp at her. Gemma counters it with her own, it not only broke his but also landed right in his chest. The barrier he tries to throw up before contact wasn't enough. Kaidan rushes over, pulling him back up as he checks him over.
"You alright?" Jackson nods. "You always had these problems with using a barrier?" He nods again. Kaidan looked at Gemma, she nods and walks over.
"Get a barrier up for me," she asks. Jackson does so, Gemma looks at it. It was a weak attempt, Jackson was also twitching just to keep it up. Gemma got her own barrier up around him. Jackson instantly drops as he gasps for air from holding his breath. "You're putting too much effort into it."
"I try really hard," he argues. Gemma holds her hand out to him.
"Give me your hand." Jackson looks at Kaidan, he nods for him to do it. He hesitates but finally places his hand in Gemma's. She shares her biotics with him. Jackson almost jumps at the zap his implant feels. "Do a barrier," she orders. Jackson closes his eyes, extends his arm and takes a deep breath as his barrier comes up.
He struggles at first, "breathe," Kaidan says from behind him. Jackson finally lets the air out of his lungs and his barrier doesn't flicker anymore. The other students all stood in awe. It was a strong barrier, the darker blue proved it was holding well. Kaidan threw a small warp at it, it was easily deflected off.
"Great job!" Gemma praises. Jackson thought she was still holding his hand, but she let go long ago and he was still holding a strong barrier on his own. Jason was even impressed. Jackson had the biggest smile on his face as he finally dropped it, he couldn't help but hug Gemma in thanks.
"Thank you!" he shouts in joy. Gemma laughs as she pats his back. They all go back with the students as Gemma looks at them. She looks at Sian who hid behind her older brother.
"You," she says pointing at her. "You're Sian right?" Sian nods and her brother pulls her out in front of him. "How are you with your biotics?"
"Her endurance is crap," her brother answers for her. Gemma nods at him, waiting for Sian to tell her herself.
"What he said, I get tired too quickly." Gemma pulls her towards the mat.
"Okay, so that means you're using all your biotic power in just one move. You need to learn to portion it. Don't use a biotic move and give it your all, you don't need to. You can still do damage by just shoving someone over with your biotics." She looks at the volunteers. "Any takers?" They all looked at each other.
Jason holds his head high, "I'll do it," he announces. Gemma waves him over. Kaidan had sat back down, it was fun to watch Gemma teach. She was a natural at it. Jason stands across the way from both women.
"I'll throw some moves at you, but they'll barely touch you. Okay?" Jason nods, readying himself. Gemma extends her arm, letting the blue radiate from her skin. She uses throw first, it starts strong then slows down as it gets to Jason. He felt it make contact with his legs, but it didn't move him too much.
"You didn't do much?" Sian questions. Gemma nods and stands back up straight as she points at Jason.
"If Jason had a gun in his hand or was hiding behind cover. You would have noticed he moved slightly. That is just enough to get him off balance. You then wouldn't need your biotics and can easily shoot him." Sian nods, finally getting it. "You just need to knock them off balance. The rest you can do with bullets."
Gemma was taken aback when Jason threw a warp at her. Of course, her biotics reacted themselves and deflected it. "The hell, Prangley?" Kaidan shouts in annoyance. "She's trying to help you all," he aggressively adds. Gemma waves her hand to hush him.
"It's alright, Kaidan. I think Jason here wants to prove himself," she says with a smirk. Kaidan sits back down, less than happy with Prangley doing that to her. But he knew when to let Gemma handle it so he'd keep quiet until it went too far. "Sian, go back over to the other students, please," she says without breaking eye contact with Jason.
"You really wanna do this, Jason?" One of his friends asks. Jason only smirks and nods, he really did want to do this. Gemma waves him to circle the mat, she does the same.
"Whenever you're ready, kid," she calls. Jason throws a warp at her, Gemma doesn't even use her biotics to dodge it as she jumped to the left. The students all made gasping noises. Jason then uses a shockwave which Gemma reflects with her own. "Come on, at least make it entertaining," she calls to egg him on.
Jason almost growls in frustration. Gemma used her charge, he'd thrown a barrier up at the same time, but Gemma was able to break the barrier and also force Jason to fall off the mat onto the hard, gloss floor. The noise of his skin scraping the flooring was an ear sore.
Jack, Shepard and Garrus had come to see what all the noise and blue flares were. Kaidan waved him over to where he stood with the students. "The hell is he doing?" Jack asked as she watched them cycle each other again.
"He decided to provoke Gemma, now he's paying the price for it," Kaidan replies. Jack can only shake her head in disapprovement. Jason used a pull which caught Gemma, she was being forced towards him. But the shockwave she sent broke it and she was able to get back some good distance.
Jason tried to use his own charge, but Gemma practically flew past him as he tried to hit her. He really didn't stand a chance. Kaidan knew it was going a bit too far when he saw the fire of blue in Gemma's eyes. This needed to stop before someone got hurt.
Jack had moved closer, she wasn't about to let her best student get injured, even if he did start it. Jason charged his arm to ready a nova. Gemma stomped her foot into the mat, her biotics travelled through the floor, lifting the mats in their destructive wake. Jason's nova wasn't charged enough and he ended up getting blown back.
Before he smashed headfirst into the wall. Jack threw a barrier around him to break the fall. "Jesus christ Gemma," Shepard shouts as they rush to Jason. Luckily the barrier took a major hit and he only had a scratch down his arm.
"What?" Gemma asks. Jack saw red, she threw a warp at Gemma which again was deflected. "Jack, he started this!" she shouts in defence.
Jack practically roared a war cry and charged at Gemma. She did the same, they both lit the room blue as they crashed together in the middle. Each holding their hands back as they tried to overpower each other. "Girls, come on now," Kaidan shouts as he walks over to break it up. Both women glared at each other but backed down.
Kaidan pulled Gemma back, she realized she'd gone too far. She looks at Jason and Jack, "sorry. I got carried away."
"You're telling me," Jack says in arrogance. Jason shushes her.
"I started it, ma'am. Gemma was just protecting herself. She's very strong." Jack nods and smiles. She calmed down at Jason's words. The kid needed to be taught a lesson, he couldn't go picking fights with someone like Gemma and hope to walk away unscathed.
"You are a good biotic girl. I'll give you that," Jack says with a smirk. Gemma just chuckles as she wipes the small amount of sweat from her forehead. They all cleaned up and headed for some dinner. Shepard had sent a message to everyone about having a small party in one of the main halls. Hackett was more than happy for them to do so and even sent some chefs to cook some nice food for the lot of them.
Word was sent about a load of biotics being there, so they knew the cook near double needed. Shepard hoped Wrex would bring Eve, she missed the Krogan and would like to catch up with her before she left for Tuchanka.
A/N: Well, that was fun to write. I love doing anything regarding biotics. At least we can have some fun in the next chapter with Shepard and the crew having some drinks. Let's hope they don't wreck the joint. Until next time!
