Chapter 16

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

This chapter didn't cover as much territory as I originally indeed but I'm fairly pleased with it. Here's chapter 16.

Last time:

"This new Uzumaki Clan is onto us according to our contact. This puts us in a precarious position. Rumors have been going around about them." said a male to the others.

An elderly male replied, "It matters not. What is important is we still have to sacrifice three more of the Kadokawa line and then we can perform the ritual."

A female voice said, "We have less than two weeks before the red hunter's moon. After we've sacrificed those three then we will sacrifice the female tengu to the Shinigami. Her soul is the key to our own immortality. Surely fortune shines upon us finding her." she said as she laughed.

The first male voice said angrily, "It cost us thirteen men to subdue her you witch. Thirteen men! Two of them were of my own flesh and blood!"

"And they are with the Shinigami now and are surely happy in his cold embrace." she answered. "What do you think Nyotengu? Isn't this glorious? You are our ticket to immortality."

Nyotengu was chained to a wall, tied up and hobbled. Even her wings she was so proud of were tied so they couldn't move. She'd slain several of them but still ended up being captured by the Yoru Clan's ninja tricks. She smiled crookedly through her busted lip. 'If Sage Uzumaki comes here I hope I get to witness him slaughter these fools. Even if I die I want to see them go first.'

The angry male spat on Nyotengu and said, "What are you smiling about bitch?! I'm personally going to cut out your heart for killing two of my brothers."

Nyotengu's light purple eye gleamed with malice towards him. She said with a grim smile, "You have no idea what's coming. You and your little cult of death worshipers will drown in your blood when the red moon comes. I'm going to enjoy watching you suffer as you watch your clan go extinct."

Minato Ward, Tokyo

Naruto and his wives got out to the Aoyama Cemetery that evening as the sun went down. They were still in their civilian gear. Detective Arii said the police would take care of guarding the Kadokawa descendants while the ninjas hunted for the Yoru Clan. "This area is famous for watching cherry blossoms." explained Kasumi. "It's laid out more like a park than a cemetery."

"With all the trees and landscaping here it would be easy to hide. We need to be careful." said Naruto. "Do you see anything out of the ordinary Hinata-chan?"

Hinata was already scanning the area with her byakugan. "I wish we were in our full combat gear but it can't be helped." After scouting a bit she said, "There are quite a few people still here but I don't see anything like an altar or a large gathering of people like a temple….wait. She zoomed her eyes in and saw someone hidden in the trees with a crossbow. The person was watching them with binoculars. "I think I found someone but we're out of the range of their crossbow. I don't know if the cult is actually here but there is at least one that appears to be a ninja watching us."

"Where are they?" asked Momiji.

"They're over in that patch of trees on the hill directly behind me." answered Hinata. "If I was going to scout the area from a central point or direct others to their targets that's where I would go."

Ayane nodded. "That means there are others and that person is probably guiding them by radio."

"In other words we were already expected." said Aoi darkly. "Someone tipped them off."

Naruto said. "Let's assume that so we'll be prepared for the worst. Everyone set your earpiece radios to channel five and we'll move out in pairs. Ayane-chan, you're with me in the east, Kasumi-chan is with Momiji-chan in the west and Aoi-chan is with Hinata-chan. Everyone listen for Hinata-chan's instructions. As she spots the enemies we'll take them out."

Hinata and Aoi went to a wooded area and concealed themselves while Naruto and Ayane went one way and Kasumi and Momiji went the other. The game of cat and mouse had begun….

The ninja Hinata saw spotting in the trees was concerned. They were planning to ambush these six but now that wasn't possible. 'They went in three different directions in pairs. I'm sure they couldn't have spotted us so I think they are just fanning out to search.' He said over his radio, "We outnumber them three to one. Team One head west; Team Two head East Team Three will have to take out the pair near the south entrance. I can no longer see them so we'll need to be careful."

With Naruto and Ayane….

"Naruto-kun, six hostiles are closing on you and Ayane. Two have bows and the other four have tantos. Be careful." said Hinata over the radio.

"Roger Hinata-chan." whispered Naruto as he readied his kunai. He nodded at Ayane who ran in amongst the gravestones and concealed herself. Naruto kept walking until he heard something on his left. The thwip of a bow was the only warning as an arrow shot him directly in the side causing him to go up in a puff of smoke. The archer was already leaping down along with and sword wielder to finish him off when the shadow clone dispelled. They never saw Naruto's finger blades lash out from behind them and kill them in silence. Ayane saw the two sliced up bodies fall apart and stealthily moved amongst the tombstones until she heard one of them chattering frantically.

"I didn't see what killed them!" The woman was panicking. "Our guys were just standing there and then they suddenly fell down in multiple pieces. Who are these people?" The woman suddenly fell silent with one of Ayane's kunai lodged in her throat. The last sensation the dying woman felt was Ayane removing her headset radio….

Ayane kept moving to meet up with Naruto near the hedges they had agreed to meet at. She heard the radio chatter and desperate calls for Team Two to respond. She heard the leader of the team respond, "This is Team Two leader and we were separated from the other three. We saw some sort of wire trap and had to move to go around it."

'Naruto-kun's traps are almost impossible to detect. How could they have spotted one?' thought Ayane.

Team Two Leader continued. "Alright, we're clear of the tra-" There was a squelching sound before the radio cut out.

Ayane heard Naruto's voice on her radio. "I just got two. The last one lost some fingers to my wire trap. He's headed your way down the main-" Naruto paused when he saw two kunai pierce the runner's temple and neck. "Never mind. Nice throw Ayane-chan."

"I aim to please." said Ayane mischievously.

With Hinata and Aoi….

"Naruto-kun and Ayane have eliminated all six hostiles." said Hinata with a sigh of relief. She motioned to the left and Aoi shot a poisoned senbon out into the neck of one of the group searching for them. The enemy was dead before hit the ground.

"That's three." whispered Aoi. Suddenly Hinata noticed the team in the in the west making a rapid retreat back towards the wooded area where the ninja directing them was. The last three that were searching for Hinata and Aoi also withdrew quickly. "Why are they retreating?" asked Aoi.

Ayane was listening to their opponent's radio chatter. "These Uzumakis are monsters. We've already lost Team Two and half of Team Three. I can't find the enemy anywhere. We're pulling out!" Ayane quickly relayed the information to the others.

Hinata's voice came over the Uzumaki's frequency. "They are withdrawing to the north. I can see a multi level parking garage over there. If Momiji and Kasumi go flat out we should be able to intercept them but there are still eleven of them."

"We are pursuing." said Momiji. "If things get too hot we'll fall back."

"Try to identify the vehicles they're in." urged Aoi. "If nothing else the police should be able to run the plates."

Kasumi saw several boarding a black van and threw two incendiary kunai into the side of it. The explosion caved in the side of the van and sent shrapnel flying. At least three of the Yoru ninjas were hurt but not killed. They quickly retreated back into the stairwell and Kasumi and Momiji heard their rapid steps upwards. "We got one vehicle." said Momiji. "Some were injured. We are still in pursuit."

Naruto and the others met at the entrance to the garage. They heard Kasumi say over the radio, "Three just got in a red Mitsubishi Lancer. The seven others piled in a white Nissan Caravan. They are racing out from the third floor and are out of our range. The Lancer has custom license plates that say Drift. I couldn't see the plates on the Caravan."

Hinata looked with her byakugan. "They are driving recklessly and there are many civilians around. We're not going to be able to stop them without a lot of collateral damage at the speeds they are travelling. Innocents will be killed or injured if we do."

"Shit! We'll have to let them get clear of the garage." said Naruto. "Aoi-chan, stay hidden here and catch the plates of that van when it goes by. When you have them call detective Arii."

"What about you Naruto-kun?" asked Aoi.

Naruto said, "Hinata-chan, Ayane-chan and I are going to take to the rooftops and pursue them. Ayane-chan, hop on my back." At that, Naruto's group went to a building on the opposite side of the street and shot up the side of it. They saw the white Caravan smash through the exit gates and out into the street with the Lancer right behind it.

Aoi confirmed the Lancer's custom Drift license plate and saw the van's was a more generic 40-31. She immediately called detective Arii as she waited for Kasumi and Ayane to arrive. It wasn't long before sirens and flashing lights lit up the night. Whether it was due to the bloodbath in the Aoyama Cemetery or the explosion in the parking garage Aoi didn't know. She was laying low for now….

Kasumi was standing on the third floor looking down as the two vehicles sped away. A hidden ninja injured from the black van earlier crept out of the shadows behind her with his tanto ready to cut her down. Kasumi suddenly did a spin kick and disarmed him. He suddenly felt himself restrained in an iron grip with a cloth over his mouth. He valiantly tried to struggle but felt himself blacking out. He heard Momiji's voice whisper in his ear, "Did you really think we forgot about you? Pleasant dreams."

Kasumi turned and asked Momiji, "I guess the chloroform did its job? I can't believe he was that gullible."

Momiji nodded "Yep; he's out like a light. Let's get him out of here so we can interrogate him when he wakes up." The two kunoichis rapidly gagged and restrained him and hauled him down through an emergency exit to meet up with Aoi.

When they arrived down at Aoi's position she was waiting for them. "I see you brought a guest. Detective Arii is coming. We're going to stay hidden until she shows up with an unmarked van to extract us. I'll call her back and inform her we have a prisoner."

With Naruto's group….

Traffic slowed everything down enough that Naruto, Ayane and Hinata had time to change into their full combat gear that Naruto had with him in a scroll. There was no need to keep up a pretence of being civilians any longer like at the cemetery. "I think we could have followed them even without the byakugan Hinata-chan." said Naruto with a sweat drop as he watched the two vehicles careening through traffic like the drivers were demon possessed.

"No doubt about that." Hinata replied glumly. "I think we can intercept them at that bridge unless you want to let the fifteen police cars catch them."

Ayane was excited. "Let go to the bridge and jump down on the roofs of their cars from above. I've always wanted to do that!"

"Alright, just for you Ayane-chan." Naruto said with a smile.

Hinata shook her head. 'I think Ayane watches too many of those action movies.' "Ayane and I can take the van while you take the car Naruto-kun."

"Alright, let's move." said Ayane. "We don't want to be late for our appointment." She was almost giddy.

Ten minutes later the three ninjas were sitting up on a cross beam mid way across the bridge awaiting their prey. The police were in the process of setting up a barricade that would stop the two vehicles –if it was set up in time. "What do you think Naruto-kun? Care to lay odds?" asked Hinata.

"I'd say the Lancer has about a 60/40 chance in favor of getting through. It's pretty maneuverable from what I can tell. The van might have a 30 percent chance." answered Naruto.

"Don't talk that way Naruto-kun!" said Ayane pouting. "It'll be no fun if they get stopped."

"Here they come!" said Hinata as she activated her byakugan and pointed at the speeding vehicles. The red Lancer nimbly slipped through the open parts of the unfinished barricade although it did clip a police car in the process. Naruto stood up and got ready. With no traffic blocking it the Lancer accelerated. With a wave to the girls Naruto leapt down and landed on the roof of the sports car like a cat.

Naruto smiled under his mask as the adrenalin rush took over. The Lancer was doing around seventy miles per hour and the three passengers were wondering what the hell hit their roof with a thump. 'Ayane was right! This was a blast!' thought Naruto.

Back with Hinata and Ayane….

The two girls watched as the white Caravan tilted over on its side and slid to a halt. To say Ayane was disappointed was an understatement. However, her discontent was alleviated when four ninjas came out the side door and engaged the police hand to hand. One was shot and badly injured but the other three managed to throw the driver out of a Toyota Crown police car and sped off. Unfortunately they were out of the girl's range to pursue. After making sure the police were clear Hinata threw a kunai with an explosive note into the Nissan Caravan that killed the three ninjas remaining in there (provided they weren't already dead). That left one injured ninja in police custody and three on the run in a police car.

Hinata felt they should call it quits but then saw a gleam of pure excitement in Ayane's eye. "Hey Hinata; have you ever ridden a motorcycle?"

'I'm going to regret this….' thought Hinata. "No, why do you ask…?"

With Naruto….

After the initial shock the three escaping ninjas didn't see any telltale signs that Naruto was on the roof so they poured on the speed and kept driving.

'This is quite a ride Naruto.' said Kurama. 'I can feel your heightened emotions in here.'

'I have to admit it is a wild feeling but I guess it's past time I deal with these three bastards.' thought Naruto as he drew the Kusanagi.

'Isn't that a bit overkill Naruto?' exclaimed Kurama. "The Kusanagi seems a little too good to be used as a can opener for the roof.'

'No worries Kurama.' thought Naruto. 'I'm going to use sensory ninjutsu to figure out exactly where they are and drive the Kusanagi through the head of the one in the back seat. We'll see how they react and take it from there.'

Naruto sat Indian style on the roof in sage mode until he sensed exactly where to strike. He thrust the Kusanagi through the roof of the Lancer and it cut like a hot knife through butter. The poor sap in the back seat had his brain pierced before he could even react. The ninja in the passenger seat heard a noise and looked into the back. He saw the macabre sight of his buddy staring dead at him with a sword stuck in the top of his head and sticking out through the bottom of his jaw as the blood flowed liberally into the back seat.

"What's wrong now?" asked the driver irritably noticing his friend froze up.

"Shiguro….he's…." tried to verbalize the passenger in fright.

Naruto released and explosive amount of wind chakra down through the Kusanagi and caused the skull of the dead man to detonate like a bomb. Shrapnel and debris flew out from the brain, teeth and bones at incredible speeds. In a spectacular spray of gore the dead man's head ceased to exist and the passenger's face and drivers back were riddled with sharp bone fragments. The passenger took at least one bone splinter in the eye and started screaming "Fuck; fuck, oh fuck!" at the top of his lungs over and over again.

The driver was more detached from reality. He felt a bunch of sharp pains in his back and felt the blood pouring out of the wounds. Then the pain turned dull and it didn't register or even occur to him that he was injured. He vaguely heard his friend screaming about his eyes and saw the gore splatter on the windows. The gaping wounds in his back took their toll and he started to pass out from blood loss. His buddy was still screaming but he just wanted to sleep….

The red Lancer swerved as Naruto pulled the Kusanagi out and leaped off the car's roof as it started to go over on its side and then end over end from the momentum. It finally landed on its three remaining wheels and skidded into a guard rail where the impact sent the living passenger through the windshield. Naruto landed gracefully and without incident. He didn't have a scratch on him.

Finally, after making sure the car wasn't going to explode or anything, Naruto walked over to the smoking wreck and sensed the driver was already dead. The widows were completely coated with gore. He couldn't see what was inside. Following the trail of broken glass and blood, he slowly walked over to what was left of the passenger. The man wouldn't live long. Naruto nudged him over on his back to look at what was left. A lot of it was ground away by the man skidding across the pavement. The man's remaining eye took in Naruto's form and saw the glowing yellow eyes of Naruto's sage mode. "You're with the Yoru Clan?" asked Naruto.

The man didn't have the strength left to nod as he teared up in sorrow. "Yoru Clan….doomed….Uzumaki Clan….demons!" he slurred out. The last spark of life left the man's remaining eye and Naruto walked away into the shadows….

With Hinata and Ayane….

Hinata was riding on the back of a police VFR800P Custom that belonged to the police. The two kunoichis charmed the poor motorcycle cop into distraction and quite easily knocked him out and stole his wheels. Ayane was now chuckling like an evil maniac as Hinata shook her head and held on tight. She felt bad for the police officer but at the same time wasn't it painfully obvious from their kunoichi gear that they were dangerous, armed foes? She remembered Kurenai sensei telling her, 'Remember Hinata-chan, a woman's sex appeal is as dangerous as any weapon in their arsenal.' Hinata had been embarrassed at the time and blushed terribly but now she was seeing the results of that lesson. 'Men really are idiots….'

'Oh well; that poor officer will just have to face the punishment of his superiors for thinking with the head in his pants instead of the one on his shoulders.' thought Hinata as they took a sharp turn. Ayane was quite skilled with a motorcycle and Hinata decided she should learn how to ride one too. She liked the feeling of the inertia as they deftly maneuvered around any would be obstacles. They were closing on the stolen police car rapidly and with its lights and sirens on there was no way they were going to lose it now.

With detective Arii….

Detective Arii Maya was sitting in her car with an unmarked van behind her. Police were all over the place and the detectives in her group really couldn't make heads or tails of the situation until things calmed down. She sighed as she sipped on her coffee and watched the pandemonium before her. She'd already called Otaki to give her people some room but the Inspector was currently battling his way through traffic so he'd be awhile. She wasn't paying much attention when she heard a tapping on her window that startled her. There was Kasumi, smiling and looking like a naive high school age girl who had appeared out of nowhere.

Maya rolled down her window. "Good evening detective; I trust you're having a pleasant evening?" asked Kasumi innocently.

The detective groaned and unlocked the car. "Come around on the other side and get in. Maybe you can tell me what's going on." 'I don't even want to know how she got past the police lines. It's probably a ninja thing.'

Kasumi got in and asked. "Is that van behind us the one we'll be riding out in?"

"Yes, I have two security guards in the back to restrain the prisoner." said Maya. She saw amusement in Kasumi's eyes. "What's so funny?"

"The ninja we captured is plenty restrained I can assure you." said Kasumi as if talking about the weather. "When he wakes up from the chloroform Aoi is going to interrogate him. Is that van soundproof? He'll probably be screaming a lot."

Maya looked disturbed. "Shouldn't we….I don't know; take him in for questioning?"

Kasumi just shook her head. "We need answers yesterday and he's going to be waking up vulnerable and disoriented. By the time you get him down to the station he'll be lucid and will have built up his mental defenses again. He'd be more resistant to interrogation then; we can't have that. By the way, can we use that van to change into our kunoichi gear real quick? We'd rather have all our combat gear on just in case."

"Sure, why not use the van as a changing room?" said Maya with her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You're going to be using it as a torture chamber so you might as well be dressed for the occasion."

"Great; I'll get the others. Meet you behind the van." Kasumi chirped happily. She then teleported out leaving an absolutely dumbfounded detective sitting there.

'The girl did realize I was being sarcastic didn't she?' thought Maya as she got out of her car and went around to the back of the van. As soon as she arrived the three kunoichis appeared out of thin air in front of her and scared the living hell out of the guards. She saw the prisoner was unconscious and basically bound from head to toe in razor wire. Maya figured the guy couldn't move at all without cutting himself up badly.

Maya turn to her edgy guards, "These are our allies and their prisoner. The girls need to get in the back and change real quick before they interrogate the prisoner." One of the guards was about to question what pretty young high school/college age girls were doing interrogating anybody but Maya held up her hand seeing the questions in her guards eyes. "Just trust me." The other guard shrugged and unlocked the back.

"Don't be peeking on us boys." said Aoi flirtatiously. The two guards blushed.

Inside the van….

"These chakra charge tags Naruto-kun made for us so we can seal and unseal scrolls are great." said Aoi as she unsealed all her combat gear by pressing the charge tag against the seal holding everything in the scroll.

Momiji nodded, "Naruto-kun is amazing. I can't wait until we can use chakra ourselves." Momiji was changing into her combat gear by now.

Kasumi placed her civilian clothes into the scroll and applied another chakra tag that sealed them up. "I have to hand it to our husband; he knows just how to help a kunoichi in need. She pulled up her face mask. The only indentifying features aside of the Uzumaki swirls on her were her blue trim and copper brown hair pulled into a ponytail now. Seeing the other two were ready she opened the door.

When the back door to the van opened the guards were a bit shocked. The beautiful, sweet looking girls had transformed completely into femme fatales in all black gear. When they looked into Aoi's hazel eyes they saw no hint of the former flirtatiousness or playfulness, only a cold fire burned there now. The other two girls looked equally frightening. The guards felt chills go down their spines as they saw the plethora of deadly weapons hugging those amazing bodies. "We'll take the prisoner now." said Momiji coldly. "You might want to wait out here and guard the door. It won't be pretty." With that she hauled the prisoner inside and closed the door behind her.

The two guards turned to Maya and the one that had been eyeing Aoi asked, "Detective Arii, what is going on? Who are they?"

Maya stepped over to the guards and motioned them close to her. "Those girls are ninja; kunoichis to be exact. All this chaos and death tonight was caused by a battle between them and enemy ninjas. That's all I can tell you. That and they are deadly so don't piss them off and don't repeat what I just told you; understood?"

"Yes ma'am!" chorused the two guards.

Maya nodded. "Good I'll-" They heard a muffled scream followed by another within the van. "Just ignore the noise. I'll by in the car if I'm needed." she continued before heading back to the car. Maya really didn't want to know what the three kunoichis were doing to the prisoner.

With Hinata and Ayane….

Ayane settled in behind the stolen police car's slipstream and was following with the bike's lights off. She nudged Hinata who drew her kodachi and started channeling water chakra through it. When Hinata signaled she was ready Ayane gunned it and swerved quickly up on the driver's side accelerating as she went. As they shot by Hinata's chakra blade extended into a lethally sharp blade of ice and sliced right through the windshield on the driver's side and exited through the driver's side window. Judging by the massive spray of blood it was safe to say some damage was done.

As Ayane drifted them across the front of the car Hinata aimed back with her blade and sprayed ice completely coating the windshield and reducing their visibility to zero. Hinata looked with her byakugan through the ice and saw the driver's arm was severed and he was cut into his ribcage. "They're done for Ayane! Get us clear."

Ayane nodded as she got clear on the passenger's side and let off the gas. The motorcycle quickly decelerated and she turned the lights on as the stolen Police car careened onwards in a straight line ahead of them. The car kept going in a straight line even when the highway began to curve and sped directly into a support pillar at a large overpass. The car simply didn't have enough mass and momentum to plow through the huge reinforced concrete pillar and was smashed beyond all recognition as metal, glass, blood and ice flew everywhere. Ayane pulled to a stop so Hinata could get a good look with her byakugan.

"Is anything still alive in there Hinata?" asked Ayane doubtfully.

Hinata shook her head. "There's nothing that even remotely resembles a human in there Ayane. Get us out of here before the real police arrive."

Ayane hit the throttle and the two kunoichis sped off into the darkness eventually doubling back to meet up with Naruto and the others at the safe house. It had been a long night….

Location unknown….

The shadowed figures were listening to the radio transmissions and heard their scout's final words over the crackling of radio interference. "Yoru Clan….doomed….Uzumaki Clan….demons!"

The angry man said, "Well, you sent out a mid level team and they got slaughtered like cattle! What do we have to show for it?! I'll tell you what! Nothing; absolutely nothing!"

"Calm yourself." said the elderly female. "Our contact had no idea that they were so formidable. Since we caught those two Mugen Tenshin ninjas with the same team I felt they would suffice. Apparently I was wrong. These Uzumakis appear to operate in a totally ruthless and cutthroat manner. Shame they aren't our allies…..At any rate we've confirmed that six of them killed eighteen of our people brutally, one was killed by the police and the twentieth is more than likely dead or captured. I was hoping that a battle at Aoyama Cemetery would leave them in disarray or at least injure some of them but I'm under the impression that it hardly slowed them down."

The elderly male said, "I was hoping our contact could feed them some more disinformation about the Kadokawa Family but that's proven impossible and the information at the Kadokawa Shrine has already been processed. In spite of the fact I'd relish in burning that place to the ground it would use up valuable time and resources. What's worse is the police have been very diligent in keeping tabs on the Kadokawas. It may be coincidence but our targets are under surveillance. We may need to choose alternate members of the Kadokawa line."

A younger female voice piped in. "The problem I see is everything is being coordinated through the detective named Arii Maya. She's the glue that keeps the Tokyo Police Department in touch with the ninjas to begin with regardless of what clan they're from. If we wipe her out their organization would be in shambles for weeks. Why not have our contact kill her?"

"Now there's an idea I can get behind!" said the angry sounding male in approval.

"Our contact specializes in information gathering, not killing. It's just not possible." explained the male elder. "Still, the idea of killing Detective Arii Maya without a doubt has merit. It would certainly buy us some time and right now time is our most precious commodity."

"….And time is running short." said the elder female. "Whatever we do we must do it quickly!"

Nyotengu had her eyes closed and was feigning sleep but inside she was smiling viciously. She could hear the desperation in the voices of the Yoru Clan. They were completely baffled that their little army was wiped out so easily. All Nyontengu had to do was survive until Sage Uzumaki and his clan arrived. These would be immortals would soon find out that death comes for everybody eventually….

POSTSCRIPT:

Well, that was a bit of a bloodbath. So the first battle with the Yoru Clan at Aoyama Cemetery comes to an end. I thought that the story would move along a little faster but this works and sets up the next chapter nicely. Now the questions are what did the prisoner's interrogation reveal and who is the Yoru Clan's contact? Blue out. 12/18/14
