Later that week, Saturday, December 14
"I know Daph, I'll be careful and write to you and Tracey often. No need to remind me." Telling Daphne as her and Tracey are about to board the train. Seems its just gonna be me staying over the holidays as I can see Hermione and Neville boarding further down. Fun...
"Y'know Rin, you could just sneak on and come with us anyways. I doubt any would really notice." Tracey suggests cheekily, her smile wide as she takes a step into the train, before yelping in pain.
Daphne huffs and rebukes Tracey after having flicked her in the back of the head. "Don't be trying to get Rin in trouble Tracey. I'm sure Professor Snape wouldn't want to be troubled having to figure out where she went if that happened." After saying this Daphne turns to me and hugs me tightly, which I return.
"No worries. I'll be good while you two are gone~" I tease Daphne, letting go and stepping back with a smile as the two of them board the train. Waving goodbye as they begin to leave.
"Alrighty... time to face the music Rin." Sighing and turning back, and making my way back into the castle.
I wander the halls for a moment, working up the courage for a moment, before finally making my way into Professor Quirrell's classroom.
"Ah Miss Fraener, thank you for coming." The man in questions voice oozing out in greeting. "To be honest I was expecting you to try and get away from me out of fear for my figuring out your secret. I'm very happy to see that you're smarter then that." He says with a grin, showing off entirely to much teeth.
Instead of answering right away, I just make my way closer and stop in front of his desk, only then giving my reply. "Not really anywhere I could go without inviting more trouble." My voice as calm as I can make it, working to keep my mind empty and void of all thoughts.
"Hmph~ very true. Now then, we'll have our little discussions in here for the next couple of days, as the other Professors are currently working their way through the Lost and Found Room. A lot of very interesting items hidden in there I must say." Quirrell says as he strokes his chin in thought before looking intently at me. "Have you begun reading the book I gave you dear? I would very much like to hear your thoughts on its contents." He asks in an intrigued voice.
"I'm... only about halfway through it so far Professor." I begin to tell him, hearing him humm in thought. "But I can only say its both fascinating and... well, completely horrid. And I'm not sure why you wanted me to read it." I finish saying, swallowing as I anticipate some kind of attack from him.
Professor Quirrell sits there a moment watching me, his eyes boring into me, probably looking to read my mind more. "Well Miss Fraener, continue reading it and let me know your thoughts once you've done so. For now though, how about we talk about the real interesting things hmm?"
"What do you mean Professor...?" I trail off asking, dreading and wondering what he's going to bring up. Either more of the Game, or possibly my memories of the series and my past life.
"What I mean Miss Fraener, is this fascinating 'Game' you have access to. Its quite something from what I've seen, I mean, the ability to raise your spells and attributes in a numerical way is something that I have never seen before." Says Quirrell, a fanatical tone in his voice.
Quirrell stands from his desk and begins to pace the classroom, continuing to speak to me. "It makes me wonder though, why do you have this power? Is it something inherently special within you? Or did you develop it in someway with accidental magic?" He stops his pacing and I notice a more maniacal look in his eyes, quickly realizing my mistake and breaking eye contact again. "I just find it so different and exciting to ponder. And since you have seemed to realize it, yes, I have been using Legilimency to peer into your mind. Its how I was able to see your 'Game' in the first place." He explains with an arrogant smirk.
"Why am I here Professor?" I ask resolutely, trying to be firm and making a point. "If you just want me to tell you how I have this Game then you're wasting your time, cause I don't know. It just showed up when I got my Hogwarts Letter and I've tried ti use it as well as I can." Forcing the words out in the hope that he'll believe them, cause if not then I may not make it out of all this alive.
"Ha! Miss Fraener, if I wanted to learn how you gained it that badly, then we wouldn't be having this conversation." He begins telling me. "No, what I want is to test its limits with you. You'll essentially be my apprentice for the remainder of the year, learning from me as I see how the 'Game' of yours interprets what I teach you." He explains.
[Title Tab Unlocked]
[Title gained: Quirrell's Apprentice]
[Quirrell's Apprentice: Player gains increased Affection with Trolls and a 5% increase in all Spell efficiency]
Eh? A Title system as well now?
"Oh hoh~ and what is it now Miss Fraener?" Quirrell asks. "I'll give you this chance to tell me, otherwise I will continue using Legilimency to get the information myself." The warning he gives me making me pause.
Quickly making the decision to go along with it I answer. "Its a... Title sir. It says that I'm your Apprentice and it gives a couple of benefits for it." I tell him.
Quirrell watches me a moment with his piercing gaze, but stops afterwards. "Very well. I assume its something to do with Trolls and Dark Magic, fitting for any apprentice of mine." He begins pacing back and forth, a contemplative look on his face before gesturing towards the door. "Well then Miss Fraener, that'll be enough for today. I expect to see you back here tomorrow around noon, be sure to have read the rest of my book by then, won't you?" His voice sending a shudder through my body.
I nod to him and begin making my way towards the door, looking back at him as I close it behind me and seeing him seemingly mumbling to himself. I'd assume he's speaking to Voldemort so I'll need to be careful.
Finally free from being there I make my way off to the Slytherin Common Room, entering inside and taking a seat in one of the comfy recliners. Just taking a moment to breathe and think on my next moves.
"What now Rin?" I wonder aloud, idly pulling the book from Professor Quirrell from my Inventory and looking at its ominous cover.
"I guess I should just get through this for now. Would rather not deal with whatever he would do if I don't." I say as I open the book, returning to the place I left off at before.
Secrets of the Darkest Arts
Ch.5 The Unforgivable Curses
The Unforgivable Curses are three of the most powerful and sinister spells known to the wizarding world, and are tools of the Dark Arts. They were first classified as "Unforgivable" in 1717. They are the Killing Curse Avada Kedavra, Cruciatus Curse Crucio, and Imperius Curse Imperio.
The Imperious Curse - Imperio -
Imperio is a tool of the Dark Arts and one of the three Unforgivable Curses. It is one of the most powerful and sinister spells known to wizard kind.
When cast successfully, the curse places the victim completely under the caster's control, though a person with exceptional strength of will is capable of resisting it. The fact that the curse can be defended against makes it unique amongst the Unforgivable Curses.
The Imperius Curse was invented during the early Middle Ages by dark witches or wizards. The curse was created for the coercion and brainwashing of others into slavery.
After the Wizards' Council was reformed into the Ministry of Magic, tighter restrictions were placed on the use of certain kinds of magic. The Imperius Curse was deemed by the Ministry to be dark magic, and, along with the Cruciatus and Killing curses, were declared "unforgivable" in 1717. The use of any of these three curses on a fellow human being would result in a life sentence in Azkaban, unless there is sufficient evidence that the caster did so under the influence of another's Imperius Curse; this tends to be a factor that many Dark Wizards abuse and lie about when they were facing prison, particularly after the First Wizarding War. During the First Wizarding War, when Barty Crouch Sr.was in charge of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, he fought violence with violence, and legalized the three Unforgivable Curses for Aurors against the Death Eaters in order to win the war. This was repealed once the war was over, as it was no longer necessary.
It was also at that time that many Death Eaters claimed that they had served under Lord Voldemort only because of the Imperius Curse. While their claims were accepted, the Ministry has gone as far as to assign several personnel to determine who is truly under the curse, and who is lying to escape punishment; however, they were not perfect in capturing deception, as Malfoy and Macnair, along with several others, still eluded justice. Ironically, many Death Eaters, such asLucius Malfoy, avoided imprisonment in Azkaban after Voldemort's first defeat in1981by claiming that they had been under the Imperius Curse. As such, it became the Ministry's work to determine who was lying, even though many "victims" managed to deceive them.
Unlike the other Unforgivables, being subjected to the Imperius Curse when adequately cast is not an unpleasant experience, in fact, quite the opposite; the victim of an Imperius Curse is placed in a calm, trance like state in which all feeling of responsiblity and anxiety is banished drawing parallels to the real-world phenomenon of hypnosis, which is also often portrayed in fiction albeit inaccurately of being capable of placing someone under the complete control of another by placing them in a theta state. An adequately Imperiused being is placed under the caster's total control and may be directed to do anything the caster wishes, including crimes such as murder, political corruption, embezzlement, and even suicide. Also, whilst under the caster's control, the curse may also endow the victim with whatever skills that are required in order to complete the task at hand, such as increased strength or allowing them to cast spells far above their level. It is possible for someone who has been Imperiused to place others under the curse as well. When a correctly cast Imperius curse is terminated for whatever reason the victims become themselves. Also, any pain that the curse has negated by the pleasant sensation would return, along with any other pain that the victim suffered for the duration of the curse.
If the Imperius Curse is performed poorly, then the victim would have their mind addled, an example being Muggle Junior Minister Herbert Chorley. It seems the damage is long-lasting, as Chorley was sent toSt Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuriesto recuperate and spent the rest of his life believing he was a duck.
The Imperius Curse appears to give the victim's eyes a milky, glazed appearance if the curse is performed poorly or hastily, resulting in it being very detectable to other wizards.
Resisting the Imperius Curse is possible, but requires great strength of will and character. The fact that it can be resisted makes it unique amongst the Unforgivable Curses as it is the only curse that has a manner of defence. Resisting the Imperius Curse is similar to Occlumency, which requires a great amount of willpower, though it is unknown if Occlumency would actually work against the curse.
The Cruciatus Curse - Crucio -
The Cruciatus Curse, which inflicts excruciating pain upon the victim, requires the verbal incantation and the use of a wand. The effects of the curse depend upon the desires and emotions of the character - to produce the excruciating pain implied by the name, one must, according to accomplished caster Bellatrix Lestrange, desire to cause pain purely for its own sake. The extreme pain inflicted by the curse makes it uniquely suited as a form of torture, and was used regularly by the Death Eaters. Once cast, there is no spell that can defend against the Cruciatus Curse. However, there are still defensive options available against it. The spell can be dodged by hiding behind a solid object, and a particularly strong-willed wizard can merely resist the pain until the spell is lifted though, as noted above, prolonged exposure can cause permanent mental damage. Another option is to interrupt the caster before they can finish speaking the incantation.
The Killing Curse - Avada Kedavra -
The incantation of Avada Kedavra causes a blindingly intense green bolt of light to shoot from the end of the caster's wand, which, on contact with the victim, results in instant death. There are no secondary effects; the victim simply "drops dead" for no biological reason. It is possible that the victim's internal organs cease function. Muggle coroners would be unable to find a cause of death in such an attack, but the Ministry of Magic recognises the sign sof the curse. The Killing Curse has no counter-curse or blocking spell, although the green bolt may be dodged or blocked with solid objects or other methods of evasion. If the curse misses the victim and strikes an inanimate object instead, a small explosion at the point of impact results, which may start a fire of green flame.
The spell can be directly countered using a Stunning Spell, in which case red and green jets of light will meet and create multi-coloured sparks. Since neither spell is able to reach its intended target, neither will have any effect, as the jets of light basically explode on each other. However, this is particularly tricky, as it requires both jets of light to collide with one another. It is unknown whether this is limited to the Stunning Spell or if it is possible to reflect the Curse with other spells. If another target is placed between the caster and the targeted individual, then the new target will take the hit of the Killing Curse, which may simply result in an object being destroyed or damaged in an explosion of green flames. One can also avoid the effects simply by dodging or if the caster has poor aim, as with many attacking curses of this type, the spell must be directly targeted at the intended victim.
Ugh, the Unforgivable's now. Can't say I enjoy reading about these, nor can I see myself ever needing to use them.
Ch.6 Necromancy vs Inferi
Necromancy - Kedavra Kavademus
The reversal of the spell that brings death. Kedavra Avada is the mutilation of the art of healing into something more grotesque as the spell operates specifically on corpses and not on the living. Reanimation, or otherwise Necromancy is the art of healing a corpses body enough to raise it from the dead, albeit a soulless corpse, an empty shell for soul cant be brought back from the dead. There is a distinction between reanimation and the creation of inferi, for Kedavra avada only restores the body in its physical form, but to command these empty shells, akin to those after a demeters kiss, one must transfigurate them like a puppeteer, using the curse that creates inferius. The incantation for Necromancy is "Kedavra Kavademus".
Inferius Curse - Enferio -
Allows you to control dead corpses, similar to the Imperius curse, though different in the way that it operates on the dead and not the living. An Inferius is a dead body, reanimated by a Dark Wizard, similar but intrinsically distinct from a zombie.
The spells used to reanimate a human body are much more complex than those used, for instance, to make inanimate objects fly. The Inferius may be cursed to respond lethally if disturbed, to kill indiscriminately, and to undertake perilous jobs for its master. Its limitations are, however, obvious; it has no will and no brain of its own, and will not be able to think its way out of unforeseen trouble. As a warrior or guardian with no regard for its own safety, however, it has many uses.
Due to their status as being unfeeling dead, the Inferi are immune to bodily damages such as slashing, and have great physical strength, enough to kill a human or drag them away. Due to their superior strength and surprising speed, they are especially dangerous en masse.
As no spell can bring back the dead, the Inferi are not alive, just corpse puppets. Despite this, it may be possible that they can speak.Preserved indefinitely by Dark magic, an Inferius can only be destroyed by fire, for no spell has been found to render dead flesh impervious to burning. Inferi are therefore enchanted to avoid flames by their master.
Now necromancy and zombies? I'm gonna hate the rest of this book at this rate. Wouldn't be surprised if they discuss Horcruxes next.
Ch.7 Horcruxes - Carpo Cruxio Leromis -
One defense against death is the creation of at least one Horcrux. The creation of Horcruxes is a preventive measure, created by a wizard long before he faces the threat of death. If one has Horcruxes when they die, they will not be dead, but they will barely be alive and will be reduced to living off another, drinking Unicorn Blood, or creating a rudimentary body from Unicorn Blood and snake venom. If possible, one can make a Regeneration potion to came back to life, but it requires the bone of the father, the flesh of the servant, and the blood of an enemy.
The first Horcrux was created by Herpo the Foul. Herpo the Foul was an Ancient Greek Dark Wizard. He is one of the earliest known Dark Wizards and his work is still a lasting aspect of dark magic to date. He was the first wizard known to successfully create a Horcrux, perhaps having designed the ritual himself. - see last page for more detail -
As previously stated, a Horcrux is a powerful object in which a Dark wizard or witch has hidden a fragment of his or her soul for the purpose of attaining immortality. Creating one Horcrux gives one the ability to anchor one's own soul to earth if the body is destroyed; the more horcruxes one creates, the closer one is to true immortality. Creating multiple Horcruxes is suggested to be costly to the creator, by both diminishing their humanity and even physically disfiguring them.
The nature and concepts of Horcruxes are so terrifying, they are kept secret from most of the wizarding world. Even banned books such as Magick Moste Evile only skim the subject at best. This is the only book that explains Horcruxes in detail.
A Horcrux is one of the darkest arts in existence as it involves splitting the soul, which is intended to remain whole, through the most supreme act of evil, murder.
There is only one way to make a Horcrux.
1 - You must commit an act that does irreversable damage to your soul, such as committing a murder of someone that is of great importance to you.
2 - You must then cut off the flesh of your victim as well as yourself, and place them in a mortar and grind both with a pestel. Dilute the mix with snake venom and an infusion of Wormood after placing the first in a cauldron. Brew the potion and ingest it. The purpose is to link your flesh with the life that you've taken.
3 - twenty-six hours after ingestion you must then bleed upon an object selected as your horcrux. The incantation for this final spell is - Carpo Cruxio -
Creating a horcrux is one of the magical darkest practices invented (though this is debatable) and is exrusiatingly painful. However the reversal is more so. The creation of a Horcrux can be reversed by its creator by truly feeling remorse, though the effects of this can be fatal to the spirit of the wizard - so far that it may result in loss of magical abilities.
Horcruxes can also be destroyed. If a person's body was destroyed, their soul would remain intact, whereas with a Horcrux it is the opposite, as the piece of soul depends upon its container to survive. Destruction of a Horcrux is difficult, but not impossible, and requires that the receptacle to be damaged completely beyond physical or magical repair. When a Horcrux is damaged to this point, it may appear to "bleed" and a scream may be heard as the soul fragment perishes. However, as a safety measure, the creator will usually place powerful enchantments onto the artefact to prevent damage, to the point where even the most powerful house-elf magic will not succeed.
It is unknown if the creator of the Horcrux would be able to sense that his soul fragment was destroyed.
The fragments of a person's soul within a Horcrux can think for themselves and have certain magical abilities, including the ability to influence those in their vicinity. One may be unable to summon their Patronuses while wearing the locket since the soul fragment inside was darkening their thoughts. A person with an affinity for the Dark Arts, on the other hand, would be strengthened by the influence of a Horcrux. If a person is more emotionally vulnerable, it is possible for the soul inside the Horcrux to take control of him or her. A Horcrux can gradually feed on another person's life or negative emotions to strengthen itself and increase the ability of the soul fragment within to act independently in the physical world. Horcruxes which have been isolated for long periods of time are very passive by comparison and take no real measures to protect themselves. Horcruxes also possess some last line of defence against destruction. The fragment of soul within the Horcrux seems to be able to sense impending threats and can act to defend itself.
As previously acknowledged in this book, the first of Adalbert Wafflings Fundamental Laws of Magic, states: "Tamper with the deepest mysteries the source of life, the essence of self only if prepared for consequences of the most extreme and dangerous kind."
To create a Horcrux is to divide one's soul the "essence of self" and it is therefore in the creation of a Horcrux that one falls prey to Adalbert Waffling's first Fundamental Law of Magic, which essentially states that tampering with one's soul inevitably results in grave side effects.
One of these such side-effects is the "dehumanising" effect the mutilation of one's soul is said to have. The more Horcruxes one creates, the less human they become, both emotionally and physically.. Of course, this initial consequence of dehumanisation has its own side effect; it logically follows that if one becomes dehumanised by Horcrux creation then they will take less stock of morality in general, increasing the likelihood that they will create another Horcrux, which would in turn make them less human and hence less moral, which further increases their likelihood of making more Horcruxes and so on. In other words, Horcrux creation may be thought of as a "slippery slope" or "downward spiral" until one reaches the limit, at which point no more Horcruxes may be made. A second effect of Horcrux creation is that the Master Soul itself becomes unstable - even with creating just one Horcrux. The final known side-effect of Horcrux creation is the inability to move on from Limbo after death.
Limbo is a state of being that exists between life and death. Limbo comes to being inside a person's mind making it both real and unreal. Its appearance is different for each person who visits it. Some Limbo experiences involve loved ones or acquaintances. Reconciliation cannot occur after death, as the soul's state at death remains forever, so the greatest of all consequences incurred by Horcrux creation may be the possibility of eternal limbo of the soul.
Me and my stupid thoughts. I just had to think about Horcruxes didn't I?
"God damnit. I guess this is why Quirrell wanted me to read this? Who knows. It could just be him wanting me to actually be his apprentice for all I can tell." Muttering to myself as a ding appears.
[Skill Acquired!]
[Beginner Dark Arts Mastery: Rank Troll(T): Passive Skill: Grants 5 Int & 5 End and 10% effectiveness to all Dark Spells]
Oh, been awhile since I've gotten a Mastery Skill. Not to happy with it being for the Dark Arts but I'll just try and not use it to much if I can help it.
I'm interrupted from my thoughts as the Common Room's door opens, quickly shoving the book back into my Inventory as Professor Snape enters inside, a couple of older students following him.
"Now the lot of you get into your dorms. I'll deal with each of you tomorrow." He harshly rebukes all of them, gesturing for them all to go ti their dorms. After doing so he sees me in the seat, speaking over to me. "Miss Fraener, come with me to my office. We have a few things to discuss concerning the things you've brought to the Headmaster." He says as he walks off towards the doorway to his office, myself quickly following after.
We enter his office and take our seats on either side of the desk, Snape looking at me briefly before waving his wand off to the side. Afterwards a small pile of books, some money, and other random nicknacks.
"Miss Fraener, when you found the dark artifact in that Lost and Found Room, you asked the Headmaster about keeping the money or safer items inside for yourself." He begins telling me, gesturing his hand at the items he's summoned over to us. "And while we are still exploring inside the Room, we've found a decent amount of stuff that the Headmaster believes you can hold onto and use for yourself. Be sure to not misuse this privilege or you'll be in detention with me for the rest of your time at Hogwarts."
At his words I nod, looking in awe at all the stuff he's giving to me. "Th-thank you Professor! I'll be sure to do so!" Looking over everything as I start to lean forward to take it, before then realizing that I don't have a way to move this stuff without showing my Inventory. "Uhm Professor, you wouldn't happen to have anything I could use to carry this stuff do you?" I ask, a nervous look on my face.
"Hmph." He lifts a small pouch from the pile of nicknacks and tosses it closer to me. "Thats a Mokeskin Pouch, Miss Fraener. It has an expanding charm used on it so you can use it to carry your things. Now, grab your things and leave, I have some of my own work to handle." He says irritably. Guess I've worn out an welcome so far.
At his words I quickly grab everything and start putting them into the pouch, making them go into the Inventory instead while they're hidden. Once I'm finally done doing so, I stand from my seat. "Professor Snape, thank you so much for this." I tell him wholeheartedly, making my way back out the doorway to go and look over everything I now have.
[5 Affection with Professor Snape]
"One step closer Rin. Just keep moving forward and make it out alive." Urging myself on as I enter my dormroom.

Welcome one and all~ any questions, comments, concerns you all have? Feel free to leave a review to let me know or send a pm, though it may take a bit for me to respond.
Now for a serious matter. The U.S.A. has now decided that women have no rights to their own bodies with their decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. With this decision women now have less rights then a firearm does and if this doesn't piss you off to see or hear, then I have nothing to say to you and would prefer that you leave and never come back. If you don't like the fact that I've brought up politics here then too bad, this decision is going to directly affect me and if you don't like then move on to another story.
All I can do now is to please urge everybody here to go out and vote to remove these religious zealots forcing these motions through the courts.
Otherwise, eat the rich and burn the Gop. Caenis out~
