Hey, everyone, here's the first chapter of my newest story, The Spectacular Spider-Vee. This story takes place in an alternate universe where Vee was born human. Despite that difference, I'm sure she'll be just as loveable as her basilisk counterpart. Anyway, here's the first chapter.

New York. A new city meant a clean slate. A clean slate meant a new life, a chance to start over. Such was true for Camila Noceda who was driving down the street. Beside her in the passenger's seat was her 15-year-old daughter, Victoria, "Vee" for short.

Vee wore a blue jacket over a yellow t-shirt, dark blue jeggings, and white slip-on shoes. She was the spitting image of her mother, albeit with a lighter skin tone. Her blonde hair (she dyed it for personal reasons) was held back by hairclips, allowing her bangs to appear on the sides of her face. To complete her look, a pair of sunglasses on her face.

Camila and Vee had just moved to a new house in the suburbs and today was Vee's first day at a new school. Camila pulled up in front of the building in question.

"Ok, we're here," Camila said to her daughter. The girl glanced at the building then hanged her head with a whimper, "I know school has never been easy for you, mija, especially this past year. But this is a chance for a fresh start," she told the girl then placed her hand on top of Vee's, "Vee… promise me you'll try to make at least one friend."

Vee had always been a little shy around other people, especially kids her own age. It was no surprise she didn't have much of a social life or many friends in the past. That being said though, this might be the year she came out of her shell.

"I…" Vee looked at her mother, the woman giving her supportive smile in the reflection of her sunglasses, "I'll try, Mami."

"Bueno," Camila leaned in, kissing her daughter's forehead, "Good luck."

Vee stepped out of the car, closing the door behind her. She looked at the building where she'd be going to school for the foreseeable future, Midtown High. With a sigh, Vee climbed the steps and entered the building.

A minute in, Vee walked through the halls, looking through her class schedule. Due to keep her eyes on the piece of paper in her hand and not watching where she was going, Vee didn't notice the person in front of her. She bumped into the person, causing her to drop her schedule. The person she bumped into had dropped also several cards.

"Oh, God, I am so sorry!" Vee said nervously, scampering to pick up the person's cards.

The person she bumped into was a girl with short, black hair, the back of it being swooped up while the front had parted bangs. She wore a pale green shirt with the letters GHS in yellow letters. She wore a black skirt with gray squiggles around the hem. She wore light gray leggings and black shoes. Completing her look was a black choker around her neck.

The girl chuckled, "Heh. No, it's alright," she said, bending down as Vee handed her back her cards, "I take it you're new here?"

"What gave it away?" Vee asked.

"The fact that you're carrying a schedule," the girl held up Vee's schedule, her nails being the same color as the non-binary flag. Vee blushed in embarrassment, "Hey, you and I are in the same grade; and we have some of the same classes together!" the girl said, looking over Vee's schedule as both of them stood up.

"Uh… cool," Vee said, taking her schedule back.

"We have some time before have to get to class. I could give you a tour of the school if you'd like," the girl offered.

"I… I-I guess," Vee said in her normally meek tone.

"Great!" the girl smiled "Come on," she said, Vee following close behind as she led the way.

Vee's first class was science class. Science, along with English, had always been one of her favorite subjects. Growing up, she was always a bit of a science and sci-fi nerd. Taking after her mom, she especially liked anything to do with animals.

The teacher was a female wearing a green shirt underneath a white lab coat. She wore gray skinny jeans and black heels. She wore her black hair in a ponytail. Her look was complete with a pair of glasses. The thing was, she looked kind of young to be a teacher.

"Class, we have a new student joining us today," the teacher said to the entire class, "This is Victoria Noceda," she gestured to Vee beside her.

"H- Hello," Vee greeted, sheepishly rubbing her arm.

"Any questions, Victoria?" the teacher asked.

"Just one. When is the teacher supposed get here?" Vee asked, "You kind of look like a teenager. No offense."

"I get that a lot," the teacher said with a small shrug, "To answer your question, I am the teacher. Dr. Olivia Octavius," she introduced herself.

"Wait…" Vee said, recalling where she heard that name before, "Are you the same Olivia Octavius that's a super genius protege and graduated with a PhD at 17?" she asked.

"The same," Dr. Octavius nodded, "I'm not that much older than the rest of you and yet I'm your teacher," she said with a chuckle while adjusting her glasses, "Now, it's time to get on with our lesson. You can take seat next to Masha," she pointed to the girl that give Vee the tour of the school earlier, Masha waving at her.

Vee walked over and sat next to Masha up front in the second row. The two smiled friendly at each other.

"Tomorrow, we will be taking a field trip to the science museum…" Dr. Octavius started to tell the class.

Several minutes into class, Vee had just finished turning in her worksheet. The same was said of Masha. Since they had finished their assignments, they had time to do as they wished until class was over. Vee was drawing in her sketchbook and Masha took notice.

"What're you drawing there?" Masha asked.

"Oh, uh… nothing special," Vee replied, her cheeks turning red, "It's just a mechanical dragon. I like robots, and dragons are my favorite mythical creature."

"Cool," Masha smiled, "Your name's Victoria, right?"

"Yeah, but my friends call me Vee. If I had any friends, that is" Vee said, keeping her eyes on her sketchbook.

"Well, now you've got one…" Masha extended her hand, "Vee."

The blonde looked at Masha's hand for a moment then at Masha. Though hesitant at first, Vee managed to smile again and grabbed Masha's hand, shaking it.

"So… do you want to hangout after school?" Masha offered.

That was a first. No one had ever asked Vee to hangout with them after school before. Well, her mom did say to try to make at least one friend…

"Sure, I'm free," Vee replied with a small shrug.

"Great. We can use the time to get to know each other," Masha said with a friendly wink, making Vee meep.

Vee's House…

Vee stepped through the front door, the sun starting to set on the horizon. She and her mom had moved into a nice two-story house, just like the one they had back in Connecticut and had just finished unpacking everything yesterday.

"Hola, Vee," Camila greeted her daughter from the couch as she closed the door, "How was school?"

"It actually went better than I thought," Vee said with a small smile.

"Make any new friends?" Camila asked.

"Actually, I did make one," Vee admitted.

"See? I told you this was a chance for new beginnings," Camila told her.

Vee chuckled, "Heh. Ok, yeah, you were right," she said with an amused eye roll from behind her sunglasses, "I'm going to go do homework."

"Ok, mija. Dinner will be ready soon," Camila said as Vee climbed the stairs.

Vee stepped into her new room, immediately closing the door behind her. Her room wasn't that different from her old one. There was even a sliding mirror door closet. The only real difference was the color, which was a navy-blue. Vee walked up to the closet and looked at her reflection in the mirror. There was a reason she always wore sunglasses.

She raised her sunglasses, perching them on top of her head…

[Flashback]

Vee and Dani sat in a restaurant, the two having ordered a medium pepperoni pizza.

"Hey, Masha," Vee spoke, getting her new friend's attention.

"Hm?" Masha looked at her as she chewed her pizza.

"I can't help but notice the color of your nails. They're the same colors as the non-binary flag," Vee said before taking a bite of her own slice.

"Yeah, I'm non-binary," Masha smiled, "I use they/them pronouns, but I don't mind if people use she/her pronouns with me," she said, giving a smug smirk that looked like one of those looks that cartoon characters give that said they were looking at the camera/audience.

"Oh, cool," Vee said, taking another bite.

"Now, can I ask you something?" it was Masha's turn to speak.

"What is it?" Vee asked taking another bite.

"Why do you wear sunglasses?" Masha asked, biting into her slice.

"Huh?" Vee looked at her/them.

"You've worn your sunglass all day. Is something wrong?" Masha asked with a look of concern.

Vee swallowed. "My eyes are… different from everyone else's," she said, glancing off to the side.

"You mean they're, like, they're a different color or something?" Masha asked.

"That's putting it mildly. It's more of a birth defect," Vee said, hanging her head, "Trust me, you don't want to see them. You'd freak out and probably make fun of me."

"Uh, you're talking to a person that does fortune telling with tarot cards and is in to dark magic and mythical beasts. Someone having different colored eyes is right up my alley," Marsha said smugly.

There was a pause between them. Vee wasn't sure why, but in the few hours that she had known her/them, she felt as if she could trust Masha. The blonde sighed underneath her breath… and lifted her sunglasses, perching them on her head.

Masha gasped upon seeing Vee's eyes.

"Cool!" Masha beamed.

[End of Flashback]

Vee looked at her own eyes in the mirror. As she said, her eyes were different from everyone else's. Instead of having normal eyes, her eyes had yellow pupils, black irises, and baby blue sclera. These were the eyes she was born with and was often teased for when growing up.

However, Masha commenting on how cool her eyes were lifted her up a bit. Masha even said she/they were just and wish she/they had eyes like Vee's. To each their own.

Vee walked over to her desk, sitting down in front of her laptop. She placed her backpack down in front of her as she pulled out several sheets of paper, each from a different class. She first started with algebra. Just before she did though, Vee's eyes darted to a nearby framed photo right next to her on her desk.

The photo depicted her being hugged by a girl that looked identical to her, albeit with normal eyes. Vee was hugging her back, both girls seemed to be giggling, their cheeks pressed so close, each had their closest eye closed.

Vee sighed through her nose, tears welling up in her eyes. The sounds of ambulance sirens and a heart monitor filled rang in her head. She remembered the everything that happened up until that point. Vee grabbed the photo and brought it close. A few tears then landed on the picture, running down the glass of the frame.

"We made it, Luz…" Vee sniffled, and then hugged the framed photo to her chest, "We made it."

Well, there's the end of the first chapter. I think we all know what's gonna happen in the next chapter.

If you've read my Misadventures of Vee story, you know I gave Masha the name Dani in that story. That being said though, they'll be called Masha in this and other future stories that I make centering around Vee.

Since this is an alternate universe, I don't have to follow canon if I don't want to… and I don't. So, this version of Masha is similar to the one from the show, except she/they use both she/her pronouns and they/them pronouns. Because you can be non-binary but still use he/him or she/her pronouns. That's what I've read at least. It's all about personal preference. And I'd rather not get any reviews explaining the non-binary thing because it's confusing enough for me as it is.

And if you're wondering why Dr. Octavius is close to same age as her students, that'll be made clear later on.

Anyway, Remember to Read, Review and Favorite/Follow.
