"Hey, Hana? Aren't you ready yet?" Sasuke asked, knocking gently on his sister's bedroom door. She had been 'getting ready' for about four hours.
The other side of the door, Hana sat on the bed – completely ready. She had been for hours. She was just feeling emotional.
"Coming!" she exclaimed, wiping a few years from her eyes. Her voice was croaky and horrible. Sasuke frowned, an overprotective feeling washing over him. He pushed down on the handle and opened the door.
Hana stood up, fixing her purple dress at the bottom. He was astonished to see her looking like that, all pretty and dressed up with makeup on and all. She was growing up too fast, it hurt his heart a little bit.
"You look-" he started, then properly registered the tears, "what is it?"
"I don't think-" she stopped, clearing her throat to rid her voice of the croakiness, "I don't think I can do this."
"Why not?" he asked, feeling hopeful that this would all end.
"Because this is my first date and I am nervous" she untruthfully confessed, looking down at the floor. Sasuke sighed. Not because she was annoying him. He just wanted this to end. This silliness. What were they doing to each other? Intentionally trying to hurt one another was never going to work. Before he could say that aloud, though, their doorbell chimed loudly. Hana's eyes widened.
"That's Choji! Look at the state of me!" she reached for a wet wipe and dabbed at her leaking eye make up in the mirror. Sasuke hesitated before nodding.
"I'll let him in."
"Thanks. Tell him I'm almost ready."
Sasuke left her bedroom, then opened the door for Choji who stood there with a bunch of roses in his hand. He hadn't thought to do something like that for Sumi. Choji bowed to him awkwardly.
"Come in," he said coolly, leaving the door open for their classmate.
"Thank you" Choji said quietly, entering their apartment and gently taking off his shoes.
"She's almost ready," Sasuke told him, "five minutes."
"Cool."
Hana emerged from the bedroom seconds later, clutching onto her purse. Choji's eyes widened at the sight of her. Sasuke grumbled something about Choji under his breath, but he didn't quite catch it himself. No one did. Hana was too busy twirling and asking Choji how she looked, and Choji was too busy choking on his own saliva. No one even noticed him in that moment, not even Hana.
"You look gorgeous!" Choji finally responded, "I am so lucky!"
Hana giggled, approaching him and taking his arm.
"Sumi will meet us at the restaurant. Are you ready to go, Sasuke?"
"I am" he said, shuffling his feet a little bit. Hana pulled Choji towards the door, where they put their shoes on and left for the restaurant. Once there, they spotted Sumi standing outside wearing a long, black dress. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and she was wearing dark purple lipstick and black eyeshadow.
Her pale cheeks turned a dark red once she spotted them coming, eyes fixed on Sasuke. He really wasn't sure how to greet her, and once he reached her properly, he bowed. She shook her head.
"There's no need to be so formal with me, Sasuke."
Sasuke nodded, "sure."
He was acting cool and collected as usual, but Sumi was determined to make him hers that night. At last, her time had come.
Hana coughed nervously. She had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, like this wouldn't work at all. She motioned towards the door, and Choji opened it wide. They all entered the restaurant and were sat at a table for four. There was an awkward silence as they all glanced over their menus.
"I hope you like it here, Hana. It's my favourite place to eat" Choji grinned. Hana gave him a gentle smile in response.
"It seems lovely so far."
Sasuke huffed, and Sumi noticed. She couldn't help but notice, since she was watching him closely. He was gorgeous to her. So, utterly amazing.
"You don't like it, Sasuke?" Choji asked, disappointed. It appeared he had noticed too. Sasuke was taken aback that he HAD noticed, and shook his head.
"No, I do."
"Good" Choji nodded, returning his gaze to his menu.
"How are you finding our latest lessons, Sasuke?" Sumi asked, moving her gaze back to her date. He looked at her for a split second, before looking back at the menu. He seemed to be eyeing the ramen dishes.
"Easy" was his simple reply. Sumi nodded, disappointed that he wasn't conversing with her.
"You?" he then asked after a couple of seconds silence.
"Same, mostly."
"Hm."
Hana clicked her tongue. This was so, damn awkward. She hadn't expected things to be so quiet. If Sasuke liked Sumi so much, why weren't they talking to each other? It was so weird.
They ordered their food, with Choji only ordering one thing on the menu. He didn't want to scare Hana away with his eating habits. He knew that it was too much for some people, and he really liked her a lot. While they talked away about school and all sorts, Sasuke and Sumi didn't speak a word to each other. Hana had noticed, in fact, she was barely listening to what Choji was saying. She was concerned about how Sumi was feeling, but also wondering about Sasuke's behaviour.
Throughout the meal, it was no different. Hana tried to talk to them a little bit and include them in her conversation with Choji, but Sasuke wouldn't budge. It was like he was trying everything NOT to be involved. Sumi was clearly upset, Hana could see the tears in her eyes as the meal drew to a close. The boys paid for the meal, and then Choji said he would walk Hana home. Sasuke was annoyed by that, insisting that there was no need, that he would be with her, but then Sumi called his name.
Turning around to face her, Sasuke was greeted by her angry expression.
"Can we talk? Somewhere private?" she asked him. Hana was shocked, but Choji was waiting by the door for her.
"Now?"
"Yes, now."
"It's late" Hana insisted, "can't you two talk tomorrow?"
She was afraid something would happen between them.
"Please, Sasuke?" Sumi asked, ignoring Hana altogether.
Offended, Hana moved away from them. Sasuke watched her walk away, then trailed his eyes back to an upset and angry Sumi. He closed his eyes, then nodded.
"Sure. Where?"
Sumi shrugged, even though she knew exactly where they were going. She slipped out the door past Hana, who sighed deeply.
"So you're walking me home then?" she whispered lowly.
"Yep!" Choji smiled, taking a hold of her hand. Hana smiled weakly, then allowed Choji to walk her home .The whole time, she kept thinking about what they would get up to. It was killing her to imagine them getting together, her confessing her deep love and him realising she was better than Hana in every way for him.
She was cool. Calm (mostly). Collected. Dark. They would make a cool couple, in fact, they were the perfect match. She was so lost in thought; she didn't even realise they had reached the apartment until Choji released her hand.
"I had a great time with you. Let's do it again sometime."
"Me too. Let's" Hana said lowly, reaching up on her tippy-toes and pressing a soft kiss to his chubby cheek. Choji blushed deeply, then gave her a shy wave and left to go home. Hana was left in the middle of the street, wondering where Sumi had led Sasuke off to.
Meanwhile, Sasuke sat atop the Hokage heads with Sumi. They had been sitting there in silence for a few seconds, looking out at the lights of the village below them.
"I love you" she suddenly uttered. Sasuke closed his eyes. No, no. no. What was he supposed to say to that?
His heart was beating fast, despite his calm composure.
"I'm so, deeply in love with you."
"I'm sorry – I can't" he replied quickly.
"You can't? Because of who or what? Hana?" she snapped.
"Hana isn't the reason I can't" he said, which was partially true, but also a lie.
"Then? You know she's into you, right? It's gross."
Sasuke sighed, "I know."
"What's the reason you can't do this?"
"I have a mission to complete. After that, I can do what I like" he said softly.
"So you do like me?"
"A little" he confessed. He wasn't one for lying.
"But you love Hana?"
"She is my sister. Of course I do."
Sumi sniffled, wiping at her nose with a tissue from her bag.
"Can't we just be casual?" she asked.
"Casual?" he asked, quirking a brow.
"We're both too young to sleep together, but you know…someday we can just do things like that. For now, we can kiss and make out and keep it all a secret from Hana. You know?"
"She'd be very upset if she found out. I know that girls talk."
"I promise I won't tell her anything" Sumi said. He finally opened his eyes to look at her. Her eyes were pleading. He felt guilty for once in a long, long time.
Leaning over, he pressed a soft kiss to her cheek. Sumi gasped.
"Fine" he said coolly, "but she can't find out."
"I swear I'll never tell her. You have my word" Sumi told him. Sasuke nodded, looking back at the village below them. He knew he was doing wrong, but somehow…being in that moment with Sumi felt good. He had to move on from his feelings for Hana. Being with Sumi, whether casual or otherwise, would be good for him in the end, he thought.
"It's sort of romantic up here, don't you think?" she asked him quietly. He nodded.
"I do."
Scooting closer to him, she rested her head on his shoulder. After a few seconds of stiffness, Sasuke rested his head on top of hers.
'This is nice' he thought to himself, 'I can be normal for even a little while.'
|| bit of a twist! It was hard to decide whether or not to have this happen, but we'll see how it all goes. Let me know what you think of the story so far. From now on, I will probably be focusing on the story as well as adding more personal bits to it. I'll try to stick to the important parts of the anime so it won't be too long and we can get these guys aged up! Also, I'm sorry I haven't uploaded in literally two years hahah! Life gets in the way sometimes. Lots of love.
