Chapter 9: Rustboro Dance
Okay, have to do another little speed write to get this done before the day is done. Might have to post on Sunday if I can't get it done in time. Ah well. Just do what I can. Hope you guys enjoy.
Now for the reviews of last chapter:
Advanceshipper: Well it is true that Ash and May plan to go on a date you never what can happen like they get separated when Ash has to go the bathroom or something and some other guy sees her and tries to make a move on her. Just an idea for tension at the dance.
Phantomwolfies: Thank you and I hope you enjoy the rest of the story as well. Yep, they never give up. No matter how embarring they are.
And don't forget to check out my other advanceshipping fanfics.
May rummaged through the clothes, trying to find the perfect dress that would not only make her look the best she could at the upcoming dance, but also hopefully win Ash's heart. She blushed as she thought back to their conversation. He actually felt the same way! That meant she had a chance to make this work! Though she was worried that it wouldn't work, what if they split up so bad it would mean they would have to stop traveling together?
May was worried, but knew she had to take a chance and hope for the best. She liked Ash a lot. She wanted this to be perfect.
May looked through the dresses… no, no, no. She had to find the perfect one! May was just about to give up when suddenly her eyes fell on a beautiful blue dress. They matched her eyes! May's mouth fell open as she gazed it, the fabric glittered. She took it to a changing room nearby and tried it on. Looking at her self in the mirror, May grinned. But she needed more, shoes, a necklace, something for her hair. Looking around the mall once again she found some other good looking items, she tried them on with the dress. Perfect! She headed to the nearest register but saw Ash and the others were there as well! Not wanting Ash to see her dress too soon as it would wreck the surprise, May scurried to another register on the other side of the store. Getting in line she waited for a few minutes as other customers were checked out.
The cashier scanned her price tag and May handed over the cash, boy it was expensive! She'd have to get her parents to send more soon, and win some in battle.
"There you go, have a wonderful day," the cashier said.
"Thank you," May said as she went back to where she saw her friends.
She passed three certain individuals.
…
"Well look at that, the twerpette is all alone," James said as he watched May walk past them, not recognizing them in their disguises.
"Maybe we should grab her!" Jessie said. "Use her as leverage to get the twerp to give up Pikachu. Then we can swipe her Pokemon as well."
The malevolent red head made to sneak up behind May, but James and Meowth held her back.
"Hold on, there's too many people in this mall!" Meowth said. "They'll call the cops if they see us grab her!"
Jessie seethed. "Eh, you're right! Well just wait little twerpette! Your pokemon will be taken at the dance tonight! And that goes for your friends and everyone else at the dance too!"
…
May looked at the register she'd seen the guys at earlier but they weren't there. She wandered the mall until she finally found Max.
"There you are we thought you'd be right behind us. Take a long time to pick your dress?" Max asked.
"Uh… yeah," May lied.
She and her brother walked around the store, soon finding Ash and Brock who had bags of their own with their clothes for the dance inside. With their clothes selected they headed to the Pokemon Center. The dance wasn't till tomorrow so they had time to relax.
…
The next day, Ash was training again. Pikachu was making good progress with its Iron Tail move, his tail was glowing bright white, he flipped in the air and came down on the piece of wood they were using for a target. It split the wood cleanly in two!
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed in triumph.
"Good job Pikachu! Lets make sure it works more times! Do three more targets!" Ash said.
He took another bit of firewood to the stump they were using. Pikachu repeated the move with the same result. Ash did another, and another. The third move worked but the fourth…
"Chu…" Pikachu leapt up and came down with its tail lit up.
But the glow suddenly faded and Pikachu's tail slid harmlessly along the wood.
"Ah! Well, three out of four is still pretty good," Ash said.
He turned his attention to Treecko.
"Tree… ko! Ko! Ko!" Treecko began spitting little bursts of green energy out of its mouth.
"Hey nice one Treecko!" Ash said.
May, Brock, and Max all sat on the nearby bench watching the three train.
"Ash is really dedicated huh?" May said with a blush.
"Well it takes a lot of hard work to learn new moves and win Gym Battles," Brock said. "Ash always used to slack off in training, just thinking he was already good to go. But he's sure come a long way."
"Hey, but there's still more to do. Treecko seems okay but so did Pikachu a second ago," Max said.
"They're both really close though," Brock said.
Ash let out a sigh, his voice ready to give away from shouting so many commands. "Well, I think its time for a break. We've been training for over an hour now."
"Alright, then we can do some more sightseeing before the dance!" May said excitedly.
…
They spent the next few hours walking around the city, grabbed lunch, and continued sight seeing until there were only a couple hours left till the dance. Ash, Brock and Max all changed in their room at the Pokemon Center while May did the same in the bathroom for privacy. They got on their clothes and heard a knock from inside the bathroom.
"You guys ready yet?" May's voice called.
"Just a second," Brock said as he pulled his pants up and fastened his belt. "Okay!"
May emerged as Brock slipped on his loafers. Like when he'd seen her in her yellow bikini around a week ago, Ash's mouth fell open. But this was much better then that. Her blue dress sparkled. It was sleeveless and left her shoulders bare, showing her curves, her eyes matched the dress. Her shoes were a light blue gold lining, they made her look a little taller being high heels and she wore a white pearl necklace and her hair was tied into two ponytails with blue ribbons, and a dark hairband with fake jewels on it. She'd been in the bathroom much longer then any of them as she had to do her hair. It was damp as well, each of them had showered and cleaned up in preparation. Brock hoped to dance with Roxanne or any pretty girl he could manage, Max wasn't sure if he'd dance but he could at least have fun with some kids his age, and of course… Ash and May hoped to dance together.
"Wow, May you look great," Brock said.
"Thank you Brock!" May said appreciatively. Though she had hoped for a compliment from Ash.
Ash's cheeks flushed red. He wanted to say something but Brock had already said she looked great. What else could he say.
May looked at him and blushed herself. Ash wore a blue tuxedo with a blue tie that had electricity on it. Perfect for a Pikachu trainer. Max had settled on a green dress shirt and formal pants. Brock had a standard black tuxedo on.
"You look great, Ash!" May said.
"Uh… thanks May you two," Ash said. "Almost like a princess."
They blushed at each other. May approached him, hoping that he would hold out his arm and offer to lead her to the dance in a loving fashion. Ash though, was clueless to her unspoken desire and merely thought she was approaching him.
"Well lets go guys," Brock said snapping both of them out of it.
He lead them out of the center room with Ash and May following side by side and Max behind them. They went out onto the streets of Rustboro city and walked to the gym. The doors were open and they saw a ticket boof ahead with a blue haired man in front. They walked up and presented their tickets.
"Welcome to the Rustboro Trainer School Dance," the man said. "Please release your Pokemon and enjoy the festivities!"
They released all their Pokemon and entered the Gym which had been redone into a dance floor. Behind them the blue haired man grinned evilly. A disco ball shined above them, and all around were lovely girls and handsome boys in formal wear. There were also food stands with hot dogs, pizza, and soft drinks.
"Wow, that food looks amazing!" Ash said his eyes lighting up.
"Pika!" Pikachu agreed.
May had to admit that it did look appetizing but what she really wanted first was to dance.
"Yeah… but can we-
"Alright I'm gonna grab myself a slice and a soda!" Ash said running to get in line.
May watched him in dismay. She sighed and walked away, taking a table by herself. She knew Ash loved food but hadn't expected her to forget about their dance over it. She sat by herself for a while, occasionally sparing a glance at Ash as he stuffed his face with a piece of pizza and a hot dog as well as a soda.
Looking around, she saw Brock talking to Roxanne who looked embarrassed. Max was with some kids that probably went to the Trainer School. A few Pokemon danced as well, including a Cacnea, Seviper, and Meowth. Then suddenly someone approached May. It was a guy her age in a red tuxedo with flame patterns and short curly blood red hair.
"Hi! What's your name beautiful?" the guy asked.
"Um… May," May said.
"Why are you all by yourself May?" he asked.
May suppressed a frown. The guy hadn't introduced himself to her. But she could use someone to talk to and distract herself for the moment.
"I came with friends. Was hoping for a date but he just has to go and stuff his face!" May said gritting her teeth a bit.
"Oh!" the guy said in a sad tone.
"What's your name?" May asked.
"I'm Santiago. You want to dance?"
May looked at him. He wasn't bad looking but she had really wanted to go with Ash. "Um… thank you but no."
"Oh come on! You got nothing else to do." He suddenly grabbed her arm!
"No! Go away!" May said.
Ash heard her shout and looked over, seeing May being pulled from out of a table she sat at by an unknown boy. Frowning he got up from his seat and stomped over.
"Hey leave her alone!" Ash said.
The boy glared at Ash. "And who are you to make me?"
"I'm her… her date!" Ash said, scolding himself for forgetting about May suddenly.
"Well you obviously didn't do a good job taking care of her," the jerk said.
"Get your hands off her!"
Ash shoved the guy away and then assumed a defensive position in front of May. The spectacle quickly drew the attention of other couples dancing and otherwise. Roxanne walked over with a serious look on her face.
"Santiago! I warned you not to cause any trouble!" Roxanne said. "I let you in cause you'd been showing good behavior recently! But now I see that was a mistake, leave this gym and you'll be in detention for the rest of the coming week!"
"But…"
"Now!" Roxanne snapped.
The boy snarled and stormed off. Brock and Max both made their way over in concern.
"May are you okay?" Max asked.
"Yeah, what a jerk!" May snapped looking out the door from where her unwanted admirer had stormed out. She then turned at Ash. "Thanks Ash."
"You're welcome, and sorry I kinda ditched you," Ash said.
"That's okay, I think you made up for it just now," May said. "Care to make it up a little more with a dance?"
Ash nodded. "Sure."
May smiled. "Then please do me the honors!"
Ash tilted his head in confusion. "Huh?"
"She's asking you to ask her to dance, tw-" Someone whispered in Ash's ear.
Ash looked to see a woman in a mask with long red hair that looked familiar. Looking back at May, he took the advice from the stranger.
"You want to… dance May?" Ash asked.
"Yes!" May's mood brightened considerably upon hearing those words. She took Ash's hand and they ran out onto the dance floor.
They faced each other. Looking at him, May saw Ash seemed uncertain as he looked at her. She smiled.
"Its okay Ash," she said. "Just put your hands on my waist."
Ash did so, feeling her in his arms. She in turn put her hands on his neck. They stepped side to side, slowly circling around, then Ash spun her. May smiled at him.
"Alright everyone! Time to party! All Pokemon please gather together up in the front and dance!" a loud voice said over a microphone, it was the red head who'd whispered in Ash's ear.
Pikachu, being a Pokemon, went with the rest of the in the front row before the DJ. They danced carefreely, Ash spared a glance over at his partner who danced with all their Pokemon and others. Fortress, Torchic, Wurmple, Lotad, Treecko, Taillow, and more all danced. Then the woman grinned and pressed a button. Suddenly the Meowth, Cacnea and Seviper in the Pokemon crowd suddenly jumped away from the others as a trapdoor suddenly opened below the feet of the other Pokemon. All of them except Taillow fell into the trap. Taillow flapped its wings and avoided it while Pikachu and others cried out as darkness swallowed them.
"Pikachu! Treecko!" Ash yelled.
"Torchic! Wurmple!" May cried in a similar tone.
"Fortress, Lotad!"
Suddenly a cage rose up from out of the trapdoor containing all the Pokemon.
"What's going on?" Max asked.
Evil laughter sounded, then the red haired woman and the blue haired man who'd been at the store started an all too familiar motto.
"Prepare for trouble we're taking your Pokemon.
And Make it Double Our Pitfalls Never Get Old
To Protect the World From Devastation
To Unite All Peoples within Our Nation
To Denounce the Evils of Truth and Love
To Extend Our Reach to the Stars Above
Jessie
James
Team Rocket Blast off at the Speed of Light
Surrender now or Prepare to Fight!
Meowth that's right!
Wobbafett!
Jessie glared at her other Pokemon who'd stupidly gotten himself trapped into the cage.
"You are so useless!"
"Wobba!"
"Yeah right if we let you out we let all the Pokemon out!" Meowth said.
"Team Rocket!" Ash snarled.
"You guys! And here I was starting to think you'd finally given up!" Brock said.
"Not a chance!" Jessie shouted.
"We finally caught up to you and it seems you let your guard down!" Meowth added. "Now we finally got Pikachu!"
"Time to run or rather… fly!" James said pressing a remote.
Suddenly a hole appeared in the roof of the gym and an extension cable came down and wrapped around the cage holding all the Pokemon. It was lifted up into the air. Team Rocket grabbed hold of the cable and rose into their signature Meowth Balloon.
"Hey give us back our Pokemon!" Ash shouted.
"Yeah! You crooks!" May shouted.
"Uh… nah!" Jessie pulled her eye in mockery and stuck out her tongue.
"Pikachu thunderbolt!" Ash shouted.
"PikaCHU!" Pikachu let off a powerful thunderbolt at the cage bars but it had merely redirected onto the Pokemon who cried out in pain.
Meowth laughed. "Really you think we'd forget to stock up on electric proof supplies?"
Ash grunted.
"Well its been a pleasure here at this dance but we gotta go!" Jessie said.
The balloon began to ascend further up to escape.
"Oh no you don't! Taillow grab that cage!" Ash ordered.
"Taillow!" the tiny swallow Pokemon flew at the cage and grabbed hold of the bars with its talons then pulled. Despite its tiny size it managed to slow the balloon down.
"Hey let go you little Spearow!" Jessie said.
"Meowth how about you go play a little game of cat and bird!?" James suggested.
"I'd love to, but only if I had stable foot holds!" Meowth said.
Ash thought, if electricity won't work then I'll have to use other techniques.
"Pikachu, try Iron Tail! Treecko Pound!"
Pikachu lit up his tail and began pounding at the bars while Treecko did the same. Other Pokemon began using Tackle, Ember, and other attacks they had.
"Ah! They're putting a bunch of attacks together!" James said.
"Ah!" Jessie and Meowth exclaimed.
Soon the bars cracked and broke, sending the Pokemon inside plummeting back to the gym floor. The trainers quickly caught their Pokemon in relief.
"Oh you're okay!"
"I'm so glad!"
Many happy voices said similar greetings. Ash held Pikachu in his arms and hugged his partner. He then turned to glare at Team Rocket.
"Now you guys are gonna pay!" Ash said.
Suddenly Roxanne stepped forward. "Leave this to me Ash," she said before also glaring at Team Rocket. "How dare you sneak into my dance disguised as workers and try to steal my students and guests Pokemon! Nosepass come out and use zap canon!"
She threw a Pokeball into the air and a large boulder like blue pokemon with a large orange nose and closed eyes appeared. It instantly sent a powerful beam of white light at Team Rocket's balloon. The balloon blew up and an all too familiar saying occurred.
"We're blasting off again!"
"Yeah!" Many trainers cheered at the defeat of the bad guys.
Ash sighed. "Those guys never quit."
"Well we'll just keep beating them," Brock said.
"Please let the dance resume!" Roxanne said.
Ash looked back at May who smiled and approached him.
"You were amazing Ash," she said. "Now where were we?"
"Right here I guess," Ash said putting his arms around her waist.
They resumed their dance slowly. The music played, there were others around them, and two of their friends watching them. Lights sparkled. But it all didn't matter. There was only the moment, and the two of them. Ash and May looked into each others, blue into auburn. Then they leaned forward, their lips touching.
"Yeah!" Max shouted. "My sister got her first boyfriend!"
From the other side of the room, Brock also watched, his ever closed eyes tearing up. "My Ash is sure growing up. And I'm still alone!"
He cried a bit in sincere sadness.
Ash and May's lips parted and they looked at each other. Then May's stomach rumbled… she giggled, having not had any of the food.
"Looks like you need something to eat huh?" Ash said.
"Yeah," May blushed.
"I think I could go for one more slice," Ash said.
The new couple walked to the food area.
Alright, got to finish off the dance chapter and just in time before midnight. Let me know your thoughts in a review or PM. I felt like I kinda rushed it when they kissed but I didn't have anything in mind for what they could say to initiate it. If you guys have any suggestions I could add I'm open to that.
