A/N: Takes place during the scene in volume 26 where Kenshin announces to the others that he's ready to go find Kaoru...and they never question how he knows she's not dead. As nosy as those people are, one would think someone would ask. So maybe the events here aren't exactly like the manga. Details. Here's a drabble.

Sanosuke scratched his head and shot a look at Megumi. Megumi narrowed her eyes and then raised an eyebrow at Sano. They both looked at Yahiko, who just seemed confused.
Oblivious, Kenshin continued to determinedly stuff the sakabatou into his obi, tightening the ties.
After a beat of silence, Yahiko finally ventured, "Uh, Kenshin, how did you know about Kaoru?"
Kenshin blinked, and then smiled his rurouni smile, the one that radiates innocence and makes his eyes squinch happily. The smile that is the kiss of death for getting any answers out of the ex-assassin. The others decided maybe it was best not to question him further.
