"What do you mean pregnant?" Kai asked Skylor as he turned to her
Skylor tried to find her words as everyone looked at her
"I- I'm pregnant, and it's your baby." Skylor said, trembling
"I thought you were on the pill, Skylor." Kai told her back, angrily
"I am! But these things happen, you know."
"You could have gotten the morning after pill or something!" Kai raised his voice
Before Skylor could respond, Harumi stood up as she could see this situation was about to blow up, and the last thing she wanted was public embarrassment for Skylor and Kai
"Hey everyone, why don't we give Kai and Skylor some time to talk about this? Let's give them their space."
"Good idea." Lloyd agreed, seeing what Harumi was trying to do
Once everyone cleared out, Kai and Skylor were left alone
"Kai, I couldn't get it!" Skylor pleaded
"Why the hell not? There is a drugstore and pharmacy down the street!"
"I couldn't afford it!"
"We're rich! We have the money!" Kai yelled
Skylor went silent
"You and I are only 19! We are in no place to raise a baby, financially and mentally!"
"You just said we're rich!"
"Not like that!"
"Kai, I-"
Kai turned to her
"Don't talk to me. I need time to process this."
With that, Kai got up and left Skylor there crying
Little did Kai know, Harumi and Nya had been listening to the entire conversation, and Nya was ready to burst
"Nya, I don't love the way your brother just talked to Skylor." Harum said, while looking at Skylor
Nyas face was red
"I don't either."
With that, Nya stormed off
"That douchebag!" Nya yelled once she got to Harumi's room and once Lloyd took Crystal for a walk to the park (Lloyd did not want his 2 1/2-year-old daughter to hear cuss words)
"How could he, leaving her like that?" Harumi agreed, closing the door
"I really thought he was someone different!" Cole said
"He's the lowest of low." Ultraviolet agreed
"We should talk to him." Nya said
"Then you can be the one to do it, cause I'm not talking to someone who leaves their pregnant girlfriend." Jay responded
"Alright, anyone else wanna help me confront him later?" Nya asked
"I'll go. As a man, maybe I can talk to him one man to another." Cole said
"Me too. I was pregnant as a teenager once too." Harumi added
As Kai stormed off, he started to think about how this could have happened. If he used a condom, and she used the pill, this couldn't happen!
Kai grabbed his phone and left the palace to go for a walk
As Kai walked, he came across a bench on the path he was walking and sat down
Kai decided to call his dad and talk to him
"Hey dad, can you come to the park near the palace? It's urgent."
"Sure, son. Anything for you."
About 10 minutes later, Kai's dad arrived in the park and sat down next to Kai
"Hey, son."
"Hey, dad."
"You said you wanted to talk and it's urgent?"
"Yeah."
Kai's dad looked at him
"What's wrong? You look upset."
Kai sighed
"It's Skylor. I, I got her pregnant and I walked out of the room after she told me. I mean, I am not in any position to raise some baby, so I yelled at her and left her."
Kai thought his dad would be mad, but he wasn't
"What did you say to her?"
"That I don't want to talk to her right now and we aren't in a good place financially or mentally, which is a total lie."
"And how did she take it?"
"She wasn't very happy with me, and was crying by the time I left." Kai replied in shame
Ray put his hand on Kai's shoulder
"Well, I think the real question is, how do you feel? Do you regret what you said to her?"
"Absolutely. I don't even know why I said those things. It was awful and mean. But at the same time, how would you understand what it's like to have an unwanted pregnancy?"
Ray sighed
"Well, I never told you and Nya this, but now, I feel as though I should."
Kai knew where this was going
"What happened?"
"Your mom and I met as high school sweethearts. Once we were in our senior year, your mom became pregnant. I had no idea until I found out her parents kicked her out of the house because of it and she came to my house, begging me for a place to stay while she had the baby. However, since I was not ready to be a dad, I slammed the door in her face. I instantly regretted that decision in it of itself and found her in the park."
Kai looked up
"And then what happened?"
"I explained to her that I reacted inappropriately and it was an inappropriate reaction to have. I told her I would be here for her, and that she could come back with me. Once the baby was born, we decided adoption was the best option and we gave it up. We gave it to a family that would take good care of him and we still have touch with him and his family. However, you have never met your brother because we did not think you and Nya were ready. But now, I think you are."
Ray motioned for Kai's brother, Jeremiah, to come out
"Hey, Kai. I'm Jeremiah, your brother."
Jerimiah sat down next to Kai
"I hear your girlfriend is pregnant. That's tough."
"Yeah, it is. I didn't intend for that to happen."
"I hear you. You're frustrated."
"I am! I didn't want her to get pregnant, and now she is."
"Kai, I am on your side, but do you think leaving her was the best choice?" Jerimiah asked him
"No. I feel really bad."
"Well then, don't you have to make it up to her?"
"I guess."
Kai stood up
"I have to leave. I have some important stuff I need to attend to. I need to make it up to Skylor."
With that, Kai left
Skylor was still crying in the living room, with Harumi at her side
"He will come back, Skylor. He will." Harumi told her
"What if he doesn't?"
"He will."
Skylor cried more and Harumi consoled her
"Happy thoughts, Skylor. Think about happy things." Harumi told her
Suddenly, Kai walked through the door
Skylor looked up and saw him standing there
"What do you want Kai?" Harumi asked him, darkly
"Can I talk to Skylor?"
Harumi started to tell him no, but Skylor stopped him
"Let him talk to me."
Harumi looked at Skylor
"Are you sure?"
"He's my boyfriend."
With that, Skylor got up and walked over to Kai
"Can you follow me to a private room?" Kai asked Skylor
Skylor hesitated, but then agreed
"Sure, Kai."
Kai motioned for Skylor to follow him to an empty room
"Why don't we sit down? I want to talk to you." Kai said as Skylor sat down
"What is it, Kai?" Skylor asked, darkly
"You know, when you first told me you were pregnant about 2 hours ago, I wasn't ready to be a dad." Kai started
"And are you saying that makes your reaction more right?"
"No. No, I'm not. My reaction was completely inappropriate. I should not have reacted like that. It was wrong, and it was not ok."
"How could you just walk out?" Skylor said through tears
"I wasn't ready to be a dad, so I thought just leaving you was the best course of action. I understand now that was wrong and inappropriate."
Skylor looked up at him
"So what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that I will be here for you throughout your entire pregnancy, and watch our child grow up. I will stay by your side, and never leave you again."
Skylor looked down again
"How do I know you're not lying? You broke my trust, Kai."
"I know I did, Skylor. I guess you don't know. But I promise, from here on out, I will always stay with you, no matter what happens."
Kai decided to add to his original statement
"I should have been able to comprehend that actions have consequences and had a more mature reaction than I did. My reaction was a reaction that a child would have, and I am a grown-ass adult."
Skylor looked up again, and Kai started to wonder how much she would do that
"Promise you'll be here for me?"
Kai walked over and cupped her face
"Promise. I love you, Skylor."
"I love you too, Kai."
Kai kissed Skylor and she kissed him back
"Do you know how far along you are yet?" Kai asked Skylor
"Not yet. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to see, and to get an ultrasound. I'm willing to guess about 8 weeks, due to me having first-trimester pregnancy symptoms."
Kai rubbed her stomach
"I'm more than excited to welcome our new child into the world soon."
"I am too. Want to come tomorrow for the ultrasound?" Skylor asked
Kai hugged his girlfriend
"I would be more than happy to. In fact, I have already started thinking of names."
Skylor was shocked
"You have?"
"Yes. of course, I want you to have a say too, but I'm thinking if it's a girl, we could name it after my grandmother, Patricia, or your favorite kabuki servant you always praised, Mika."
"And if it's a boy?"
"Either the name Lucas, or, after my brother, Jerimiah."
Skylor smiled
"Those sound great."
