Happiness
A/N: This has been sitting on my hard drive for a bit. I'm really not sure what got into me for this one. S1 spoilers, with a touch o' the AU. Thanks to Alaidh for the beta.
Logan slowly pulled back from the long kiss, and looked deep into Max's eyes. He wanted to dive right back in, and stay there forever, but he held back, and sighed. "Max…" he began.
Max rolled her eyes and sat back on her heels. "Don't tell me you've changed your mind. I'll slap you stupid."
Logan chuckled and placed a hand along the side of her face, gently stroking her cheekbone. "I haven't changed my mind, I just…"
She furrowed her brow. "Just…?"
He sighed again. He had a really weird feeling, like an unreachable itch between the shoulder blades. "I don't want to blow this."
Max looked at him sternly. "Well, you're certainly about to dance on the edge here."
He grinned. "As much as I like dancing…Max. I'd like nothing better than to take this as far as I can as fast as I can, but I feel like if we do, something bad will happen."
"Far be it from me to interfere with your 'Something Bad' sense." Max stood up in frustration and did a short pace in the narrow room.
Logan adjusted his legs, and carefully stood up as well. When Max turned, and suddenly found herself staring in the center of his chest, he carefully held her arms and drew her close. "We've got a new perspective here, Max. Both of us. I want to see what we're looking at, and see if we can't keep it going for longer than one night."
Max smiled and nuzzled her face into his chest. "Okay. I guess we can take it slow."
Logan led her over to the couch, and held her as they sat, quietly watching the city skyline and each other.
Another watcher turned and left the room. He had almost interrupted them; his focus had been Tinga, and nothing but rescuing her. But something made him wait. For some reason, his focus had just cleared, and instead of seeing the end of one life, he truly saw the beginning of another. As the CO, it was up to him to make the decisions for the benefit of the unit. It was time to let this one go.
Zack walked away, and didn't look back.
The end
