I Can Help

Since Yusuke temporarily kicked the bucket more dumbasses have decided to target me. Each attempt gets more creative than the last I'll give them that, but they always fail, it's almost pitiful. Kuwabara has taken the liberty of accompanying me home since then. Today we bump with Keiko being in trouble.

"Keiko!" I call her gaining the attention of the thugs and her.

Kuwabara and his boys stand in front of me. I grab her hand pulling her away from those dumbasses.

"Amano, take her home, we'll take care of these no lives," Kuwabara says cracking his knuckles.

"Thank you," Keiko says.

I take her home safely and as soon as she closes her door I take off running to my apartment before others show up with crazy ideas. The next day Kuwabara and his boys look like crap. As usual, I practice gathering my energy in the palm of my hand under my desk during class. During the break, I find out that Kuwabara made a promise with that rat-faced professor so that one of his boys could keep his part-time job. If I remember correctly, he won't be allowed to fight for a week.

"Yusuke is gonna haunt him for a while… damn they better not target me."

After school on my way home, I'm surrounded by delinquents.

"Good grief."

I stare at them bored.

"Your bodyguards aren't with you this time shorty, prepare to be pummeled," the leader declares.

I sigh as he comes in for a punch. I crouch to avoid the punch and make him hit his buddy behind me. Another one tries his luck, but I roll out of the way and take off into a sprint leaving them in the dust.

"They never learn, do they?"

At home I hold out the skull and give it some of my reiki, a little bit more than usual, and alas it transforms, but it looks different from when Castiel did it. Castiel showed me a scythe where the handle was wrapped in bones and the blade came out of the skull's mouth as a form of spiritual energy. Mine has no bones on the handle, just the energy coming out of the skull's mouth.

"Oh, that is interesting," A wild Castiel appears.

"Ah, my stalker is here," I snark glancing at him.

He pouts, "That's rude Mirai!"

"Uh-huh," I point the scythe at him," Now tell me, why does it look different from when you showed me?"

"Well you see child, you're weak!" he smiles brightly.

"Geez thanks," I grumble, lowering the scythe.

"Ah but this is great progress," he gently takes the scythe out of my hand, and immediately the bones on the handle appear, "This skull has been through many people, even grim reapers I'm sure Botan as told you and none managed to reach this point in such a short time or at all."

"Now I sound like the main character of a Shonen anime," I shudder.

He laughs as the scythe transforms back into the skull.

"The key to getting the scythe I wield is to add more energy but," he pauses looking at me, "You already used half of yours just summoning it for a short time," he hands me back the skull, "If you aren't careful the skull will drain you to keep the scythe alive."

I look at the skull, "So once it's summoned it needs a steady stream of reiki to stay?"

"Yes, that's why I want you to use it as a last resort when you are in trouble," he nods.

I hum in understanding then glare at him, "Why didn't you tell me this from the beginning, you useless guardian?!"

"That was my plan, but you humans get so easily overwhelmed, so I had to wait until you settled in!" He puffs up his cheeks and crosses his arms like a petulant child.

"Fine I get it," I sigh pinching the bridge of my nose, "Anyways why are you here? I'm sure it wasn't to tell me that."

He blinks and a look of realization crosses his eyes making me sigh again.

"How troublesome."

"Koenma wants to meet you," He says nonchalantly.

"Say what?" I stare at him, "And how do you suppose we get there? Last time I checked I ain't dead."

"Like this," He says, picking me up like a child and spreading his black wings.

I cling onto him as he flew through the many apartments as if we were ghosts and soon, we stood at the door of Koenma's office.

"Why don't you have to go through the giant door?" I ask still in his arms.

"Well due to my problematic status, I can come and go as I please," he explains sheepishly.

The doors open and inside I see Koenma in his full toddler glory. Castiel puts me down.

"Ah, you must be Mirai," Koenma says getting up on his desk, "I was made aware that you hold certain knowledge of this world."

"Straight to the point I see."

"Yes, I do," I nod.

"And thanks to you and three others you made Yusuke realize that he is wanted," he continues.

"Gah stop I don't need to be embarrassed by mushy things!"

"What is my purpose for being here?" I ask, interrupting his mushy speech.

"Yes, you see since Yusuke decided to come back to life, I'll make him a spirit detective and I want you to join him," he explains.

"No," I say shocking him and making Castiel burst out laughing.

"See? I told you she would refuse," Castiel says between laughs.

"Bu…But why?!" Koenma asks frantically.

"Well you see sir, I'm a coward and those cases that you will send Yusuke on are going to be dangerous and my desire to live is stronger than my thrill for adventure, " I shrug ignoring Castiel's laugh that just got louder.

"I can get you the training that you need to get stronger!" Koenma pleads.

I shake my head, "I'm doing well on my own, I can run away from most thugs."

"What about being Yusuke's manager?!" he asks, desperate now.

"It doesn't sound like a dangerous position, Botan is gonna be the trainer, Yusuke will be the captain, I think Kuwabara will be the second in command…sort of."

I sigh, "Fine on one condition."

He looks at me attentively.

"I get to be excluded from any cases he goes on," I narrow my eyes at him.

"Yes, of course, you will serve more as advice, "He nods rapidly.

"Good, is that all?"

"Can I know about the future?"

My eyebrow twitches, "Depends."

"Will Yusuke turn out ok?" he asks worriedly.

My eyes soften, "Yes he will, still a dumbass but a good dumbass."

After that Castiel takes me back home and leaves me letting me know that he is always watching my progress. I called him a stalker for that to which he sticks his tongue out at me.

"I really hope I don't get dragged into missions, I know Koenma will honor that agreement, but Yusuke is another issue, he's capable of dragging me to defeat the saint beasts with him…ay, I don't wanna think about that."

Throughout the week Kuwabara allowed the thugs to beat him to a pulp until they were satisfied. At some point, that rat-faced professor added shit upon the agreement which was for them to pass the next physical science test with a 50 or higher. Kuwabara was the most screwed out of the four boys since he scored a seven on the previous one. I decided to help them study for that test. Kuwabara passed with 60 points instead of the 53 points like in the anime. He cut into my training time, but it was worth it in the end.

"Thank you, Mirai," Yusuke says floating next to me.

"Oh don't get mushy on me bro," I cross my arms watching Kuwabara show off his score to his buddies, "Besides I got the feeling that rat-faced professor would have changed one of his answers so he would fail."

"Yeah, that guy would do that," he nods agreeing.

Don't be afraid to leave a review I don't bite unless ya are into that ;)
