Hello my darlings, for new readers entering this chapter you may disregard this.
For those rereading this chapter you will find that I changed it quite a bit, I hit a roadblock when making chapter 6 so to get past it I needed to change the end of this chapter along with the entirety of chapter 5.
Anyways enjoy!
Welcome Back Yusuke, See You Later Yusuke.
A lot of things have happened in the last several months. Yusuke's house caught on fire almost incinerating his body, fortunately with the help of Keiko and big help from ghostly Yusuke we got out of the fire. Kuwabara was also there, he helped us hide the body until nighttime(that sounds suspicious doesn't it?) Later, Atsuko with the fire insurance money moved into the apartment next to mine. I knew the building looked familiar. A day later Yusuke gives me instructions on what to do once his body gets golden. I outright refused when I saw him.
"Bro you are basically my brother, I can't kiss you on the lips!" I told him almost gagging, "That's so wrong, no!"
"Dammit, Mirai Keiko doesn't believe in the dream!" He said exasperated.
That day close to midnight I thought about it until I heard running in the hall. The next morning there was a knock on my door. It was Yusuke!
"Welcome back to the land of the living, you're gonna hate it here," I grinned at him.
He laughed putting me in a headlock and started to mess up my new haircut. The fire ruined most of my hair, so it forced me to cut off most of it, although it was still sort of long.
Three demons stole three sacred artifacts from the spirit world vault. Hiei, Kurama, and some muscle head demon, whose name escapes me (he wasn't that important for me to remember) Yusuke had problems defeating him. Kurama just wanted the mirror to save his mother. Hiei took Keiko hostage and was the first human victim of the demon sword. With sheer luck, Yusuke managed to defeat him.
Hiei and Kurama ended up in jail in limbo. Yusuke went on a camping trip for a mission to a temple where Genkai was hosting a tournament to find the heir to her power. He dragged me there and made me climb all those godforsaken stairs! I didn't participate in the tournament; all my instincts were telling me to get the fuck out of there. Kuwabara was also there. I waited until everyone left and went inside to continue the tournament. It felt as if I was dropping Yusuke off at school as if he were my child.
Genkai herself stopped me from leaving.
"Why aren't you participating?" she asked curiously.
"Because I don't want to die," I deadpanned at her.
She laughed, "I see that you have no interest in fighting."
I smiled, "That's right, I'm an absolute coward."
"What would you say if I could help expand your spiritual energy?" She offered.
I ran all the pros and cons of that offer.
"Do I have to participate in the tournament?" I asked unsurely.
She shook her head, "You'll be my side project, your training will be more tamed than the one I have planned for the one who wins the tournament."
I shuddered thinking of what Yusuke had to go through in the anime. I accepted the offer and she started my training the moment he won the tournament. Kuwabara was badly injured but she patched him up and sent him home. Her training for me consisted of meditation, extreme energy-gathering exercises, and the occasional parkour training. It was hard to meditate and not fall asleep, but if I did fall asleep, she would smack me with a giant fan to wake me up and start from the beginning.
Six months of that went by quickly. Yusuke's screams of frustration kept me motivated. Castiel came by a couple of times to make sure I was okay and that Genkai wasn't pushing me too hard. After six months, Genkai basically kicked us out of the temple. Yusuke is hella dirty from his training, but I can tell that he has gotten stronger. Me? I still refuse to fight although I do know how to handle the scythe and guess what, vines have started to appear on the handle when it's me who is holding it! I know it's different compared to Castiel's so I assume it's because it depends on the holder? He doesn't know either since no one has come this far with it.
On our way home, we bump into Keiko, who is thrilled to see us. She allowed us to get changed into something fresher and go to the park where we meet Kuwabara. They talk about what Yusuke did during those six months at a nearby bench while Keiko went to get us milkshakes.
"What did you do Amano?" Kuwabara asks.
"All she did was meditate!" Yusuke complains rather loudly.
"She offered to help me expand my spiritual energy without the need to fight so I took it," I shrug, "Although she did smack me with a giant fan," I rub the back of my head remembering the pain, " I won't be looking at those things the same way again."
"Oh yeah," he remembers before laughing, "That was hilarious."
Kuwabara snickers. Keiko comes back within an inch of finding out about our secret. Yusuke avoids suspicion with the excuse that Kuwabara wants to see a movie.
"You guys go, I want to relax in the comfort of my home," I stretch getting up from the bench.
"Alright princess, be careful going home!" Yusuke ruffles my hair.
I wave as I leave. My hair grew a lot during those six months, it's not at the same length as it was when I got to this world yet. On the way home I get the feeling of being followed.
"Really? I wanna relax man!"
When I focus on the energy following me, I realize how familiar it felt.
I sigh, "What do you want, Botan?" I stop walking.
"You found me!" She giggles.
I turn slightly glancing at her, "Get to the point."
"Right, Yusuke may need help in his next case," she starts.
I put up my hand to stop her, "No, I already told Koenma I want to be excluded from every case, I treasure my life."
"At least help me convince him to do it," she whines," You know how difficult he can be."
"Fine," I groan, "Lead the way."
She takes me to a familiar alley. In the alley she whacks an incoming demon knocking it out. I whistle impressed
"One hell of a swing."
From the connected alley, Yusuke and Kuwabara come out a little confused as to what happened. I half-listened to the case. I know about the damn saint beasts; they are greedy brats. She takes us into a warehouse where she starts knocking on the floor.
"Anyways, Mirai why are you here?" Yusuke asks dismissing Botan.
"Apparently you needed convincing for this case," I shrug before yawning.
Soon Botan found the door to the city of ghosts and apparitions. Kuwabara decides to jump first. Yusuke realizes that he left Keiko alone at the movies and tells Botan to solve that issue.
"I can do that for her," I offer.
"Nope you are coming with us," he goes to grab my collar but I use my speed to move behind him and push him into the gate.
"Come back alive!" I wave at him as he falls which prompted him to give me the finger.
"If I remember correctly Keiko is gonna be targetted by the infected…"
"Um, Mirai?" Botan gets my attention after we get out of the storage room.
I look at her, "Yes?
"Here, "she hands me a similar communication that she gave Yusuke, "Now we'll be in contact in case something goes wrong."
I nod inspecting my newly acquired device, "Thank you, I can keep Keiko worry-free while you take care of the insects."
She nods smiling," sounds like a plan!"
We go our separate ways. I go back to the movie theater to keep Keiko from killing Yusuke when he comes back.
Don't be afraid to leave a review I don't bite unless ya are into that ;)
