Chapter 15: The Dark Slayer.

Somewhere in Vale.

In a dark, empty dusty room with the exception of a table, a chair and an old bookcase. Vergil found himself sitting on the chair with a small candle he set up on the table. He is reading a book written by a dark priest from a cult who worshiped demons in the dark ages that had settlements in the continent of Solitas, close to Atlas.

Vergil has some book written from that cult, currently trying to find an artifact that works to enhance the power of a demon and Vergil; being himself half a demon, is dead set on finding this source of power and claiming it for himself.

He learned that there are a couple of ruins beneath the snowy desert, in a cavern that could be considered a labyrinth. In his last trip to Atlas, he didn't find anything, just corpses of hunters and archaeologists.

The eldest son of Sparda left disappointed as the demons he faced were merely trash, trash that even his twin in his amnesiac state could deal with ease, not even a higher demon and the most disappointing thing was that he didn't even find the artifact.

"What a waste of time" Vergil thought that time not being able to find neither the artifact nor a worthy challenge.

Vergil kept reading until he closed the book in an instant, turning to face the single door in the room that opened after a few moments revealing his uneasy ally Arkham. The dark aura that surrounded the man could be felt by Vergil's enhanced senses, his blue eyes meeting the blue and red of Arkham.

"Did you find anything?" Vergil asked coldly.

"Indeed, one of the statues of the seven sins is located in Mistral, close to the tower" Arkham said with his dark, malicious voice.

"Then we shall leave it as the last one" Vergil said, closing his eyes "Have you found the remaining one here on Vale and in Atlas?"

"I'm afraid the one hidden in Vale is rather…elusive but I have the location of the one in Atlas" Arkham hands Vergil a Map with the possible locations in Atlas.

"Well well, looks like my stay in Atlas would be longer than I planned for" Vergil said after reading the map, it was in the opposite direction of the ruins he was going to explore.

Vergil unsheathed Yamato, cutting open a portal to Atlas before facing Arkham again.

"Keep an eye on my brother, we have to make sure he doesn't lose his amulet" Vergil said coldly again, then he started speaking again, his voice growing even colder than Atlas' coldest weather "Don't mess with him Arkham, I need him"

With that said, Vergil left the room, entering the portal he created using his heirloom. After the portal closed Arkham just smiled.

"I'm afraid I cannot sit idly Vergil, I need him to grow stronger so he can face you" Arkham said with evil intentions as he got a small flask out of his jacket "Such a tiny creature but so much pain and chaos you can create, I'm sure you know it well Dante"

In an alleyway in Atlas.

Vergil finished crossing the portal and closing it behind him, he set up to find a quick transport to reach the ancient ruins of the cult that might have the artifact. Being clever, Vergil hid Yamato in his coat as he didn't want to attract unwanted attention but was easy enough to grab and engage in combat.

The Dark Slayer left the alleyway, starting walking in the sidewalk while thinking on a plan. The blue cladded half breed thought that he could simply steal a bullhead, who was going to stop him? not the humans and most certainly not Atlas military, they wouldn't pose a chance against him.

He also thought of Jumping from a cliff and using his demonic power to land safely on the snow, he would have to walk though and would take more time. Vergil also had the idea of going down to Mantle, stealing a land vehicle and driving to his destination, then to the statue of the seven sins. The last idea made more sense to him, this way he would call less attention and could save time.

Either way, the Dark Slayer would get to the ruins no matter what. As he walked in the streets, some people gave him some glares, he knew the reason why he was gaining those glares. White hair, pale skin, blue eyes and sharply dressed, many thought he would be a Schnee or at least a bastard, how far from the truth they were but Vergil didn't care at all until he heard a certain voice he didn't want to hear.

"Vergil, is that you?" Said a femenine voice, it sounded quite annoyed.

Vergil turns to face the owner of that voice, to his annoyance he finds a woman he knows or wishes he never met, Azura Blau. The woman was two years older than him and was an activist for Faunus rights and other things that Vergil didn't care about.

Even if he was annoyed that he met her again, he noticed that the woman had changed a bit, her hair was a bit longer, reaching her shoulders. She also looked a bit more mature and her body developed femenine than the last they met. Blue eyes met Hazel and the halfbreed sighed.

"What are you doing here Azura?" Vergil said, slightly annoyed.

"Could say the same to you mister" Azura crossed her arms and had the same annoyed tone that Vergil had "It's been almost six months since the last time we saw each other, you just disappeared, never wrote or anything"

Of course he wouldn't do that, he didn't want to mingle with humans as they were weak and annoying to the eldest son of Sparda.

"That was the idea" Vergil answered coldly "And that doesn't answer my question, don't you do that 'activisms' of yours down in Mantle"

"Still cold as always aren't we?" Azura chuckles, he was just as she remembered him "To answer your question. Yes, normally I would be down there trying to drill into the people's head the idea of getting Mantle better but someone asked for a favor"

"Good for you, now if you excuse me" Vergil finished the conversation, turning around and walking away.

"It has something to do with the ruins up north, the ones that you are interested in" She says with a smirk, knowing this would catch his attention.

Vergil stops on his tracks, sighs and turns around. The last time they saw each other he did mention to her about the ruins he was searching. The only reason why he mentioned them was because she had a contact in the archeologist guild, that was the only reason, he needed her for that reason as if she wasn't useful he wouldn't have tried to meet her at all.

Somehow he knew that this would come and bite him but the comment that Azura just made caught his attention. Vergil started running through his head why the favor she was asked for was related to his search for the artifact. Only one answer came, a search for power.

"Okay, you managed to get my attention, this better be good" He said coldly as he turned around to face the girl.

"Awesome, I know a good place we can talk about it" Azura winks at Vergil "Follow me Vergil"

Vergil tried to shove aside his annoyance and focus on his goal. Right now, Vergil needed Azura once again for two reasons, one she might provide some transport so making the trip faster. The second reason and the most important, knowledge, if someone is asking for those ruins it means someone was also searching for power.

Vergil preferred to have all the information that he could not like his foolish twin who just rushed into battle and probably would get played. Vergil doesn't like being played so any knowledge he could gain better the odds in his favor.

Vergil followed Azura in silence while he kept his senses sharp, he didn't trust anyone in his surroundings as demons are known to hide themselves and even humans have a bloodthirst that could rival a demon's own. Funny enough, Vergil didn't focus his senses on Azura, his inner humanity showing its ugly face.

Soon, the eldest son of Sparda and the Blue activist reached a small bakery, it was pretty modest and not many people were inside, a perfect place to have this talk.

Vergil didn't bother to look at the menu, he wasn't planning on staying any longer than he needed to; that and that Vergil could smell the sweetness thanks to his demonic senses and he couldn't stand sweet food. Azura did grab the menu, she looked kinda focused on the contents in the menu with a small shine in her hazel eyes.

Soon a waiter came by to take their order.

"Good afternoon, what would you like to order si-" The waiter started speaking but was cut off.

"Just tea and make it quick" Vergil said while resting his head in his right left hand.

"V-very well" The waiter stuttered and turned to Azura "And what would the lady like to order?"

"Oh, I'll take some coffee" She said cheerfully, Vergil just scoffed gaining a glare from Azura "And a slice of blueberry pie, thank you"

The waiter left with the order written down in his notepad.

"Not a fan of coffee eh?" Azura had a playful smile as she said that.

"That mudwater is something that shouldn't be drinkable" Vergil scoffed "Only fools would drink it, like you or my brother"

Vergil knew that his twin was a fan of the dark drink and liked it sweet since he was a kid. Vergil of course in the last months kept an eye on his brother to make sure he had the amulet and noticed that still he drank coffee like he used to…only this time Dante mixes it sometimes with other drinks that he shouldn't drink.

"Still an idiot Dante" The Dark Slayer thought.

"Well, sometimes I barely get sleep and coffee works wonderful for me Mister grumpy" Azura shot an annoyed glare to Vergil "Didn't know that you had a brother"

"A stupid idiot as a brother, yes" He said coldly "Let's not waste more time, tell me what does this have to do with the ruins"

"Sheesh, chill out, we haven't gotten our order yet" Azura rolls her eyes "But fine, I have a friend who's an archeologist, he is looking for a piece of cloth in those ruins and before you ask, why does he need a piece of cloth? the answer is pretty easy actually, it has printed on it some history"

"And that does have to do with me because…?" Vergil asks.

"Because those ruins are part of a demon cult and you, for the brief time that I've known you for, are interested in those ruins" Azura says with a serious tone.

"And you believe tales from demons?" Vergil raises an eyebrow, a bit surprised by her comment.

"I grew up in Fortuna you know, that closed off city in that island that worships a demon as a god" Azura waves her hand lazily "It was normal to have small demons attacks but the order of the sword takes care of them and the Grimm, they are a crazy bunch tho"

Ah yes, Fortuna, Vergil has been there before during his earlier investigations for sources of power and his father's power. The eldest son of Sparda actually infiltrated the order of the sword to find out the real reason and objective of the religious cult.

Vergil found out that they are actually doing some experimenting with demons as many cults did in the past, shocking. The order did worship his father as a god and they were trying to gain any demonic power that they could so they could get closer to Sparda.

While remembering his time in Fortuna, the waiter arrived with his order, leaving on the table his tea and Azura's coffee and blueberry pie.

"I've been in Fortuna before and I can't exactly call them misguided but the power they are gaining is still far from Sparda's" Vergil said, not praising them but neither criticizing them.

"I guess" Azura shrugs while eating a piece of her pie.

"Azura, you are telling me all of this, but you haven't told me the reason why" Virgil's tone is a bit less annoyed, more with curiosity.

"My friend is sick so he can't go on the expedition, he asked me to go instead and get the piece of cloth for him" Azura sighs.

She knew she had to be more specific to get Vergil to go with her, that is her plan. Vergil on the other side is waiting for her to finish but already has an idea.

"I'm going to the ruins and I know you are strong. I can see that clearly and I need someone to watch my back as I don't trust the hunters nor the ass who's funding the expedition" Azura scoffs as she continues eating her pie.

Vergil found this troublesome, an expedition means that there will be hunters and archaeologists. There is a chance the artifact He is looking for would be snatched from his grasp and He wants that power, Vergil needs that power.

The Dark Slayer also found worrisome that He is actually considering accepting this woman's proposition to be her bodyguard. His weak humanity was acting up, screaming that he should protect her as she was clearly worried about this issue or at least, return the favor.

For now, Vergil pushes his human side away. He is the son of a demon, he is the son of Sparda.

"And you trust me?" Vergil cannot avoid chuckling, a human trusting a demon, what an irony.

"Hey, We've slept together, I trust you more than the others" Azura smiles slightly making Vergil scoff and roll his eyes.

After a moment, Vergil sighed, despite her…illogical reason for trusting him, she did good on telling him this. Vergil swore this might one day come and bite him but he was going to her for two reasons.

The first reason, to shut up his human side as it's getting more annoying by every single passing day. The second reason is that this would avoid him unwanted attention and transport to the location of the ruins.

At the end of the day he is getting where he wants to be and probably would have to bother with the hunters as they will die at the hands of the demons crawling the ruins. He'll just simply play their game and get his power and if someone tries to get in his way, they will die.

He'll go with her, only for convenience and to return the favor, it was the after all, the honorable thing to do or as people would say, She scratched his back now he has to scratch hers.

"Fine, I'll go with you but only because our goals align as I need an item in those ruins" Vergil said as he continued drinking his tea.

"Sweet!" Azura exclaims cheerfully "I'll help you get your item too, hell, i'll steal it and hide it from the others if I must, Thanks Vergil"

"I do not need your gratitude" Vergil scoffs and furrows his brow, gratitude, what a worthless thing.

"Geez, You really need to stop being so serious Vergil and you'll get lines if you continue doing that expression" Azura teased him.

"Shut up…" Vergil grumbled.

If he was honest, he has heard that before, many years ago in a similar situation that he witnessed. His Mother and Father were discussing the training that Dante and himself were receiving. Sparda, being rather serious about the topic, got scolded and teased by Eva.

"So this is what Father had to deal with…" Vergil rolled his eyes internally.

The next day, in the outskirts of Mantle.

Vergil and Azura went down to Mantle after they had their little meeting then went their separate ways. Vergil spent the night in a cheap hotel, just a bed and a bathroom.

From what Azura told him the expedition crew would meet in the outskirts in the north side of Mantle then they would travel via trucks to the ruins, easy enough. Before the sun rises Vergil decided to train a little by doing Katas from Kenjustsu and Iaijutsu.

After finishing his mental and physical training he went out to the meeting place.

The morning was cold as the rays of the sun barely touched the frozen continent. Vergil found himself sitting on a small rock, reading his book of poems by William Blake. The man cladded un blue examined the people who were coming to the expedition. Ten in total, five archeologists and five hunters.

Vergil stole analytical glances at the hunters, grasping the reach of their skills. Two of them seemed like the standard hunter he always saw on the road but the other three hunters do catch his attention.

The first hunter is a dark skinned, tall and muscular warrior who had a war hammer in his right hand and a round shield on his left arm. His clothing was a light tan colored winter Jacket that had a chestplate and the right arm was covered in plate armor. His legs didn't have any armor, probably to have better mobility. His eyes were dark brown, his hair short and his face shaved.

This man was probably in his early thirties by the looks of it, a warrior in his prime.

Why did Vergil think this was a warrior? It was pretty easy, he moved with confidence, and was training slowly and carefully doing fighting forms with attacks, probably similar to the katas Vergil performs.

The way the dark warrior was meticulous about the moves he did and knew the importance of each swing, each shield bash. This warrior was a warrior who took pride in his skill, the work he did to polish it. Something that Vergil can respect.

The second warrior was a blond fellow who was wearing a black bandana, a full winter suit with a machine gun strapped to his back and a handgun strapped to his right leg. Vergil might hate guns but something about this man reminded him of his brother who was deadly with handguns and it was his eyes.

The eyes of this man tracked the coin but not only that, they were fast enough to check everyone else as Vergil was doing but with a different purpose. Vergil was checking their abilities in combat, this man was looking for something else as the smug on his face appeared and disappeared as he checked everyone.

Vergil knew he had to keep an eye on this one as he was probably looking for who's easy to steal from or use to get something valuable from.

Then there was the last hunter, one that was an enigma even for Vergil, this hunter wore a plain golden mask, pretty sure the mask was made of gold too. A black winter jacket, gray winter trousers and black combat boots. This hunter had two golden shotels as weapons, an interesting choice.

This enigmatic hunter was good at masking his intentions as Vergil couldn't read him, this would normally raise red flags but Vergil knew this hunter was human. The eldest son of Sparda will definitely keep an eye on this one as being not able to read this hunter could be troublesome as deceit might be a card that could be played on this expedition.

Soon Azura arrived, she was wearing a long red winter coat with a white collar, navy blue pants and knee high boots. She had a gun holster strapped to her right leg with a handgun, small caliber and hanging in her back a Naginata making Vergil raise an eyebrow in surprise.

"Morning Vergil, the trucks should arrive soon" She said rubbing her hands together, she then noticed his expression "What?"

"I did not know you had experience in combat, Azura" Vergil said, trying to hide his surprise in his stoic tone.

"Never said that I didn't, I'm not a damsel in distress or anything and before you said that it was unnecessary for you to be here let me remind you that I said I needed someone to watch my back" Azura smirked knowing that he got him.

"Fair enough" Vergil shrugged "Where did you learn how to fight?"

"When my family left Fortuna we traveled a lot so i picked up some things on the road" Azura grinned "I'm capable of dealing with some demons if it's the case, wouldn't be my first rodeo"

"Good" Vergil said with a smirk, he liked this side of her.

Vergil had to admit that Azura was growing on him, she was a fiery woman and was cunning, she knowing how to fight only worked in her favor. Vergil found it ironic that his demons and human side found the girl interesting.

"So, what do you think of everyone so far?" Azura asked, changing the topic.

"Two of the hunters are probably going to die" Vergil said coldly, then his tone changed when he talked about the hunter that impressed him "Then there is the warrior with the shield and hammer, he is an experienced warrior, dedicated to his martial prowess and has discipline. All the makings of a good warrior"

"Oh my, is the cold getting to you Vergil?" Azura asked with a smirk "Is the first time that i hear you praise someone"

"Just pointing the obvious" Vergil deadpanned, then he continued "The second Hunter that caught my eye is the blond one with the coin, he is a good marksman and likes to keep sight of everything around him"

"Will he be a problem?"

"Most likely" Vergil nods "And then there is the last one…"

"The one know as Golden Mask" Azura said, furrowing her brow "He is a mercenary, a pretty good one at it but no one knows his name, face or even gender because Golden Mask speaks little"

"How curious…" Vergil said in thought.

This Golden Mask must be keeping his identity secret for some reason. Related to demons? there is a high probability as they are the ones who keep the most secret, well, them and the ones who associate themselves with the old legends of Remnant.

After a few minutes two trucks arrived, stopping in front of everyone. From one of the trucks an elderly, pale man with purple eyes, gray hair and a goatee steps off. This man was wearing a black winter jacket that wasn't fully closed, beneath it he had a white shirt with a red tie, black pants and boots.

Vergil felt something off on this elderly man, something that he didn't like but decided to keep it to himself for now. The elderly man clears his throat, trying to catch everyone's attention, he accomplishes it.

"Thank you everyone for coming" he said with a deep voice "I see some familiar faces and others who i haven't had the pleasure of meeting before. My name is Verrader and I'm funding this expeditions to one of the ruins that was home to a cult that has good number of historic relics"

"Relics? nice, they must fetch a pretty penny" Said the blond man.

"Indeed and of course, you will be compensated for the expedition and the number of relics that we acquire" Verrader said while looking at everyone. when he crosses eyes with Vergil he just smiles "Ladies and gentleman, we are burning daylight so we better get moving"

Everyone starts boarding the trucks with the exception of Vergil and Azura.

"I swear, that man gives me the creeps" Azura says crossing her arms "There is something off about him, I have a gut feeling about it"

"Your instincts serve you well Azura, Verrader cannot be trusted, he is hiding something" Vergil said cryptically and boarded one of the trucks.

After a bit the truck got full, the duo noticed the old warrior and the smug blonde along with another hunter who didn't grab Vergil's interest. Soon the truck departs and they are finally on their way to the ruins.

The veteran warrior stayed silent, eyes closed and focusing, probably doing mental training. The blond man stole glances at Azura while he played with his coin with the fingers of his right hand.

Azura was checking her scroll most of the time while the son of Sparda kept reading his poem book not really caring about them but strangely annoyed by the attitude and interest the blond hunter had with Azura. His human side wanted to punch him and his demon side wanted to gut him.

"How strange…" Vergil thought.

He pushed his strange thoughts aside and kept focusing on his book as the sounds of the truck motor kept breaking the silence that probably would be present as everyone was minding their own business.

"Ancient demon ruins" Said the blonde warrior as he whistled, then focusing on Azura "Now this will make some cash for us, don't ya think beautiful?"

"I guess so" she answered uninterested, she knew the guy was flirting with her.

"Come on, what's your name pretty? mine is Aurelius" he winks.

"Azura and I'm not here for the money" Azura scoffs, she was now annoyed at the blonde.

"Not for the money? sheesh, everyone needs money, the more the better" Aurelius smirks "I'll buy myself a new house, a new car. Hell if you want I'll buy you something pretty"

Vergil was at his wit's end, this fool human was annoying and distracting him from reading with his bothersome ideals of material pleasures. Foolishness! The only need in this cold world and meaningful thing is power. Power means everything and without it…you cannot do anything meaningful with your life.

"I'm not for the money either, making money is easy enough" Vergil said, not raising his gaze from his book.

"Well yeah, but the more the better, we can get all the beautiful things in Remnant with money and money can get you happiness" Aurelius said, shrugging.

"He who binds to himself a joy does the winged life destroy; but he who kisses the joy as it flies. Lives in eternity's sunrise" Vergil closes his book "So it is written"

"He who on what?" Aurelius is confused.

"Uh, William Blake" Azura said with a small smirk.

"You know his work Azura?" Vergil raised an eyebrow surprised.

"Well, I saw you reading your book the last time you were here so…I read some books about it" Azura looks the other way, trying to hide her blushing face.

If Azura was honest, her meeting with the son of Sparda left quite the impression on her. Handsome, tall, sharp tone and wit.

She also knows that he is quite powerful, she can feel it in her body as his gaze shows his pride and power, no fear at all like the time he destroyed the beowolf that broke in Mantle, one strike from his sheathed katana and the beowolf was gone.

She got curious, Vergil needed a place to stay, she offered and hormones attacked. Best night she ever had, she has to admit she had interest in him before and being apart from him only made her fonder of the cold man.

Vergil on the other side was impressed by Azura, she was impressing him more and more.

"Seriously, what does that mean?" Aurelius scratches the back of his head, still not getting what Vergil said.

"You are to dumb to get it young man" Said the veteran warrior, his voice was rough and with an air of authority, like a controlled storm "I'll give you a clue, it has to do with attachment"

"Do you also read William Blake's work?" Vergil asked with curiosity.

"Not really but a trained mind should be able to see what's the meaning between the letters" The veteran warrior says, still with his eyes closed.

"I see, My name is Vergil, it's a pleasure to meet you" The dark slayer was impressed by the old man.

"Name's Bruin and you don't need to be so formal with me kid" Bruin says, he really didn't like formalities "I can see that you are well disciplined, kid"

"That's the path of a warrior, a blade without discipline means that the strikes won't be true" Vergil smirks.

"And a focused mind tempers the blade further" Bruin smirks back at Vergil, he liked this kid.

"Indeed" Vergil was satisfied that there was another kindred spirit that followed the path of a warrior, even if he was human.

"Ugh, you two are annoying" Aurelius directed his attention to the other unnamed hunter.

Vergil finally found peace after the idiot started talking to the other hunter, actually he found it after he got his attention away from Azura and this made Vergil grow curious but once again, he pushed it aside.

After an hour of traveling, Vergil and Bruin talked about combat and training while Azura was mildly jealous that the old hunter got Vergil's attention. On the other hand Aurelious was talking with the unnamed hunter, trying to get some info out of him and see if he was easy to scam or pickpocket.

Then the radio on the cabin started making sounds.

"This is truck one, we have a situation"

"This is truck two, what's happening?" Said the driver.

"We have an horde of Grimm, bewolves, Ursai and centinels" Said the other driver over the radio.

"How many?" Ask the driver of this truck.

"A lot, probably close to sixty and we are close to the location too" There was a small moment of silence "Mr Verrader says that the Grimm must be cleared off, we'll stop ahead so the hunters can start taking care of them"

"Roger that" Groans the driver.

A lot of Grimm is what the others heard, of course, Vergil was uninterested by the mere thought of those mindless beasts but it was good that they found this amount of them.

"Sounds like there is trouble ahead" Bruin said, getting ready for a fight.

"Indeed, it must mean that we are close to our objective" Vergil said with a small smirk.

"Hey Vergil, sixty sounds like a lot" Azura whispers to her companion "Something seems wrong"

"Actually, is a good sign" Vergil whispers back "Demons attract the Grimm with their strong negative emotions, for so many Grimm to be around here means we have the correct location"

"Wait, does it mean that there are demons inside the ruins?!" Azura whispered, surprised.

"Most likely and they must be old" Vergil smiles "Maybe they'll provide a challenge"

It was a true fact that there weren't many that could provide the eldest son of Sparda a challenge, he was highly skilled with the Yamato and his demonic powers were honed to the limit to gain more power.

There were few demons that could make Vergil get serious but he soon surpassed them, the only one that could really provide Vergil with a challenge would be his own kin…if he trained more of course but he was getting there, a little acknowledgement of pride in his little brother.

Soon the trucks stopped and everyone got out of the trucks, weapons ready. Some of the hunters were nervous with the exception of Bruin, Aurelius, Golden Mask and Vergil.

In the distance, not that far away, there was the horde of Grimm, oddly enough, they just stood there, waiting; normally the Grimm would already launch an attack. Everyone with the exception of Vergil found this odd, Grimm normally would have rushed already.

These Grimm were exposed to demonic energy meaning that they are going to need a stronger negative emotion for them to act and the only emotion that could produce it would be a demon.

The hunters got together for a small meeting before the combat.

"So, how are we going to do this? Rush them guns blazing 'till they drop dead?" asked Aurelius with a cocky tone.

"They'll tear us to shreds if we do that you dumb idiot" Bruin scoffed at the stupid idea from the blond man "We should focus on attacking them from the distance, we have you and two other hunters with range attacks"

"Good idea, that would help reduce their numbers while they arrive" Azura agreed with Bruin's plan.

"I'll go ahead be the vanguard, I'm used to fighting multiple Grimm at the same time, the others should focus on cleaning the ones around me as I take all the heat" Bruin said, crossing his arms, he was confident in his skills to tank all those Grimm.

"Sounds like a plan to me" Aurelius nods with a playful smirk.

"What do you think Vergil?" Azura asks his companion.

Vergil didn't really care, if he wanted he could take all the grimm and barely break a sweat but for now, he'll play along.

"I'll do my part, just don't get in my way" Vergil states coldly.

"Same here" Says Golden Mask, his voice was robotic, probably a voice modulator to hide his real voice.

With a plan, everybody gets in position, Aurelius and the other two hunters aim their weapons at the Grimm while the Vanguard gets ready. There was an air of uneasiness, that was a big horde of Grimm at the end of the day and their odd behavior.

"Shit, I really don't like this" Said Aurelius.

"Grow a spine kid" Bruin grunted "But I'll admit this is odd"

"Indeed" Golden mask added nodding.

"Doesn't matter, just try not to die" Vergil said furrowing his brow, his look getting sharper, he was waiting for something.

"Geez Vergil, thanks for the inspirational speech" Azura jokes.

Moments passed, everybody was waiting for the first sign of movement of the Grimm that was blocking their advances then…they felt it, a strong, raw and powerful emotion that sent a chill over everyone's spines. Killing intent.

A killing intent so strong and deeply rooted that everyone felt it, the hunters, Bruin, Golden Mask, Aurelius, Azura and Vergil, especially Vergil…who just smirked while he heard a voice in his head.

"Sparda!" said the voice in his head full of hatred and anger.

The Grimm started moving towards the hunters so they opened fire. Bruin charged ahead, meeting the horde of Grimm, like a freight train he ran through the grim, bashing and striking, taking all the head.

Soon followed Golden mask, dashing and giving Bruin assistance as it was planned. slashing and hacking with his two hotels with great dexterity. Azura followed next, using the advantage of the reach her naginata gave her, stabbing and slashing the Grimm.

Vergil on the other hand, just disappeared, using his Dark Slayer style he appeared in the middle of the horde, with a stern expression.

"This shall be your grave" Said the eldest son of the Dark Knight.

Vergil grabbed Yamato with his left hand by the scabbard, swifty dashing into the Grimm, unsheathing Yamato in an instant doing multiple slashes in a second. Vergil reached a Ursa which he quickly did a raising slash getting the Ursa and himself in the air.

While in the air Vergil saw that below him there were two beowolves, he just smirked as he did a downward slash, similar to his brother's Helm breaker but with more grace. As he did the slash he cut the Ursa in two and when he touched the ground, kneeling, one of the beowolves was cut in tow too.

With a swift rotation and using his knee to rotate, he cut down the other beowolf and sheathed Yamato in his scabbard.

A Ursa tried to ambush Vergil from behind but soon he was met by a blue glowing spectral blade that pierced him, then another one formed on top of Vergil's left side and pierced the Ursa again.

This was Vergil's response to range combat, the mirage blades, spectral blades that he creates with his demonic energy. Vergil created this as an alternative method instead of using the dishonorable weapons known as guns, they are fast, have range and in his opinion, have better uses than a gun.

Soon the Ursa was killed by the mirage blades as they exploded inside the Ursa's body. Vergil kept his onslaught, killing the Grimm with ease, cutting them down with great speed and precision, showing the years of training he had and the mastery of Iaido and Kenjutsu he achieved.

A clever centinel that was underground tried to get the best of Vergil with a surprise attack, unlucky for the Centinel, Vergil just stepped away from the attack, as if he saw it coming from miles away. The Dark Slayer just did an axe kick to the Centinel, stomping it to the ground.

"How pathetic" Vergil mocked the enemy under his boot.

Multiple Grimm tried to rush Vergil, using the advantage in numbers, what they did not know was that advantage in numbers meant nothing against a son of Sparda. Vergil faced them, unsheathing Yamato slowly as they approached him.

The blue cladded half breed used a technique that used the power of the yamato and was the principle of his most powerful attack. Vergil finally unleashed his katana and cut through the air, turning his back to the Grimm as he slowly sheathed his sword.

As he finished sheathing Yamato, the Grimm that charged against him fell down and split in two. To the untrained eye Vergil just cut through the air at a really high speed but what he really did was cut the space using the power of the Yamato, a powerful and wide slash that goes beyond space, the Void Slash.

"How boring, I expected more of the Queen's pets" Vergil said with an annoyed tone.

Vergil walked away from the corpses of the Grimm he just created, if he was honest, he didn't bother to count how many did he kill and what type of Grimm he just killed as in his eyes those creatures were nothing more than trash. Vergil killed almost half of the horde.

Vergil reunited with the rest of the hunters and Azura who just finished dealing with the rest of the horde. By the looks of it they were a bit tired compared to Vergil.

"You got skills kid" Said Bruin, impressed of Vergil's skill from what he saw while fighting "Remember to never get on your bad side"

"Y-yeah" stuttered Aurelius, changing his mind on getting back at Vergil.

"Well, I think he is cute when he is angry" Azura said giggling, gaining a sharp glare from Vergil.

"I appreciate the compliment Bruin but we are wasting time, we better make haste" Vergil stated, walking past his companions, towards the trucks.

Soon after that they get moving again, boarding the trucks and continuing their trip to the ruins. Azura in the meanwhile was working through her head the odd behavior of the Grimm and reached a conclusion using the knowledge she gained when she lived in Fortuna.

Those Grimms were affected by a demon, probably a high ranking one at that and that killing intent that made them attack was from said demon. Azura felt a chill down her spine, a powerful demon was close and Vergil probably knew…but why was he so calm about it? She really couldn't find a concrete answer to his calmness except that he was confident.

After twenty minutes they finally reached the ruins in the snowy desert, at the foot of a small mountain. The entrance was made of a clean and purple-ish stone and a metallic door.

Everybody got out of the trucks with the exception of the drivers and got close to the door. Getting closer everyone got a good look at the size of the entrance of the ruins, they could fit the trucks inside if they wanted.

"Fascinating, the structure seems to be in perfect condition" Said one of the archeologists amazed by the ruins.

"We have to get the door opened so we can explore the ruins, if you may " Said Verrader.

"Sure thing" Bruin said stretching, the doors did look heavy.

Bruin got in front of the door, there wasn't anything to grip it by but having a good look, the door seemed to open by pushing it. First the veteran warrior tried to push it lightly but the doors didn't move an inch.

He needed to give it more, so he did with more strength and nothing, he was getting annoyed so he pushed with all his strength and even so the doors didn't budge at all.

"Oh brother, these things are either really heavy or they are stuck" Bruin groaned, his failed attempts made him look bad to the young ones.

"Might need two pushing it" Aurelius said with a smirk.

And so the two tried, but the doors didn't move at all. After five minutes, everybody with the exception of Vergil worked together to open the door in vain, the door didn't want to open.

"Damn, this door is really stuck" Aurelius whined.

"I agree, but there is also something written on the door" Said an archeologist "It sais: The shackles of time are no more, only the worthy can enjoy the ageless future ahead and the unworthy shall perish by the poisonous bite it provides"

"Is that kind of a puzzle?" Azura asked, a bit confused by what was written.

"Most likely, these cult ruins tend to have stories about demonic legends, this must be one of them" Said Verrader while scratching his chin.

Vergil got close to the door, this was but childsplay for him, the door only opens if they can answer the question.

"Ambrosia" Vergil said.

After Vergil finished talking, a sound came from the doors, the ground shook lightly for a moment and they started moving slowly. Everyone was surprised by the sudden movement of the doors. After a few seconds the entrance was open.

"So it was a puzzle!" Azura exclaimed.

"Impressive, would have never gotten that young man, you seem quite knowledgeable about demon cults" Verrader said happily with Vergil's knowledge.

"Knowledge is power after all" Vergil stated coldly as he walked inside the ruins.

Everybody got inside the ruins to find a big cave that was clearly dug with rudimentary tools as it was poorly dug, on the ground they found some skeletons, apparently human. There was also a lack of illumination inside, lucky for them they came prepared with lanterns to illuminate the way.

Vergil on his side, thanks to his demonic heritage, could see in the dark. Vergil found this pleasing as his demonic heritage grants him with a good number of advantages unlike his weak human side

There wasn't a lot to see aside from the tunnel, there wasn't any furniture nor anything related to the cult. There were only two things that everyone could see clearly, the dusty skeletons and the smell of the place being sealed for years.

"Poor bastards, must have been stuck inside for a long time" Said Aurelius giving his attention to the skeletons.

"And this place is really dusty" Azura complained.

"It's been closed for who knows how many years, what do you expect?" Bruin grunted.

"That's true…" Azura said.

"This place smells like death" Golden Mask said before going back again into silence.

"How can he smell with that mask?!" Azura asked herself mentally.

The group started walking inside the man made cave, thanks to their lanterns they could see the path, shame it looked so boring, it really didn't have anything except from the walls and the occasional skeleton.

Vergil on the other side, felt excited, the amount of demonic energy in this place was rich and it came from a place deeper inside the ruins. Jackpot, this place has the item he is looking for, Vergil found this amusing, he needed the woman's help again to reach his goal.

They continued walking, the only sounds were made by the occasional banter and their footsteps and because of this, many found this place eerie. Golden's words didn't make things better either way.

Finally, after ten minutes of walking they find something different, a big room with three paths, this is the start of the labyrinth. This room was better looking than the cave, it actually had some craftsmanship as the walls were made of the same brick stone of the entrance.

It had a couple of vases, tables and chairs, along with a mural painting, now this was the interesting part that grabbed Vergil's attention.

"Wow, check this out" Said Aurelius "Cool painting"

The mural showed an image of an angel with a long beard and three eyes. To his side there was a big tree, the angel had a red fruit in its hand. The second part of the painting showed the angel ascending with his angelical wings after consuming the fruit, he seemed powerful.

The last image was of the angel fighting a monstrosity of a demon and winning. What an odd painting for a place like this.

"Interesting, a demon cult having a painting of an angel vanquishing a demon" Said an archeologist.

"That isn't an angel" Vergil said "He looks like one but he is far from an angel"

"If that ain't an angel then what it is?" Aurelius asked with his trademark smirk.

"His sick sense of humor" Vergil scoffed.

"Wait…you don't mean…He is a demon?!" Azura asked dumbfounded.

"Yes" Said Verrader "The three eyes is the giveaway here, That is the Emperor of Darkness himself"

"Mundus…" Vergil said with venom in his voice, he has a score to settle with the scum who took everything from him "This must has been when he consumed the Qliphoth fruit and became king of the underworld"

"And he took the looks of an angel? geez, you are right that he has a sick sense of humor" Bruin commented.

"Well, not that it matters, demons are just stories to scare children" Aurelius reasoned "And on the other side, these vases look like they have paintings on them, might be worth a pretty penny doncha think?"

"You kidding?!" Said an archaeologist angry as he got closed to one of the vases "These pieces need to be examined first, they are from a bygone era, yes but the historical importance and materials are unknown to humanity, they are a value-"

His words were cut short as a blade cut him in half, a hooded demon in black torn clothes with rotten flesh and bones sticking out. His face was just a skull and he was holding the killing weapon, a scythe who's blade was serrated.

The demon appeared from the shadows in front of the archaeologist attacking immediately, human blood staining the ground. Vergil found this interesting, this wasn't a pride demon, Hell pride looked similar but their robes weren't torn and they had flesh…this was a Hell Caina.

And Chaos arrived as multiple Hell Cainas, six in total appeared from the shadow dimensions they hid, killing the Archeologist, slashing them to shreds or simply cutting them down. Even the Verrader fell victim to the Hell Cainas as he was stabbed multiple times by them.

"The hell are those things?!" Said one of the hunters taking multiple hits from the Hell Cainas, his aura close to breaking.

"These things hit pretty hard!" Said Aurelius blocking one of the Hell Caina's scythe with his rifle, then kicking it away.

"Doesn't matter, just focus on surviving!" Bruin said as he used his shield to parry one of the attacks and counter attacking with his hammer.

Bruin continued blocking the attacks using his shield, straight on or deflecting them then attacking, he had to admit but these creatures were tough as they took many of his attacks and kept standing.

The seasoned huntsman wasn't going to die there, he dashed against his opponent doing a shield bash breaking the guard of the Hell Caina he was facing. Bruin saw the opportunity and hit the demon's leg, making it fall to the ground.

Raising his hammer, he struck the demon right on the head multiple times until it died, the demon dissipating in a black goo. He had to admit, the strikes of that creature were strong, stronger than a beowolf but their attacks drained his aura as he could feel it being siphoned away.

Azura, used to fight demons thanks to her travels and living in fortuna, had knowledge of this type of demon but not them being in the flesh. It didn't matter to her, she had killed them before and this wouldn't be the last time.

She used the advantage of the reach of her naginata by deflecting the demon's scythe in a safe place and doing weak but fast stabbing attacks. Hell Caina got tired of this game and rushed against the young activist.

Raising his scythe the demon attacked Azura, but she catches the blade with the guard on her naginata and with a swift move she hits the Hell Caina with the butt of her weapon, staggering the demon.

Azura didn't end there, now having the demon staggered she started slashing the demon until it fell. It's been a while since she killed a demon but she still got it.

Golden Mask on his side, had an easier time, using one of his shotels to quickly snare the demon's weapon, leaving him defenseless while using the other shotel to kill it, no fuss about it.

Aurelius just dodged and retreated, using the bullets powered by dust to kill the demon that was attacking him with precise shots to the legs to stop his movement and head for lethality.

Sadly, not everyone had the same luck as the two unnamed hunters were killed by the demons, this proved Vergil right, hunters are just weak with the exception of Azura who wasn't a hunter and face demons Before, Burin who's experience turned him in a true warrior and Golden Mask, who probably had more going on. Vergil omitted Aurelius from his mind as he was still annoyed by his false bravado.

Two of the demons faced the eldest son of Sparda, feeling his demonic power and the smell of the traitor, snarling at the half breed with hate. This amused Vergil, these lowly trash are going to face him? but alas, he'll oblige to show them his power.

Vergil walked forward the demons as the two attacked him at the same time, they were so slow to the Dark slayer that he just hit them with the scabbard of his sword with an raising diagonal strike then he hit them again with the scabbard it by doing the same he did but in reverse.

Vergil now with Yamato in the perfect position, quickly grabs the katana doing an upwards slash and with a quick flick of the wrist he grabs his sword in an inverse grip and does an downward slash.

Not wanting to lose more time that he needs Vergil quickly sheaths his sword and starts drawing the sword in a slashing way, cutting multiple times at a high speed, probably hitting the demons more than a hundred times to finish doing a powerful dashing cut ending behind the demons.

Vergil slides as he turns around, slowly sheathing his sword.

"Too slow" he says mocking the demons and as the katana clicks on the scabbard, the demons fall and he notices red stones on the ground "Interesting, this ones are indeed old enough to drop them"

"What were those things?!" Aurelius asks, agitated by this…hellish situation.

"Demons" Azura chirped, actually having a good time, fighting demons was addicting for some reason..

"Wait, those things are real?!" Bruin was shocked by Azura's comment

"Very real, In fortuna they are really common in fortuna" Azura said "This are just weak ones if I'm honest"

"Hmph, even you find them weak? you surprise me once again Azura" Vergil complimented the girl who just smiled.

"How can you be so chill about it?!" Aurelius yelled, Azura and Vergil just shrugged

"Seems that you two are used to fighting them" Bruin pointed out.

"As I said, I grew up in Fortuna and that place demons are pretty common so yeah" Azura just scratched the back of her head "I guess the rest of Remnant doesn't know about them"

It was true, Fortuna was a secluded place that barely interacted with the rest of the world, kept their information pretty tight aside from their worship of Sparda or the "Savior" as the order liked to call him.

"Indeed, my case is more of a…family business" Vergil said, not wanting to reveal his heritage just yet, especially since there is someone from Fortuna here "Either way, this was expected"

"Guess that's the reason why not many accepted this job uh?" Bruin crossed his arms as he checked the bodies "Damn, they are all dead, guess we are going back?"

"Nope, Vergil and I have some business inside" Azura stretched a bit, getting ready for more of this "Can't leave without what we came looking for"

"Well, you two have fun because I'm out of here" Aurelius said, not bothering to hide his fear.

"I'll do the same, my contract was with Verrader and he is dead, no reason for me to linger" Said Golden Mask starting to leave already.

"Damn…I guess I'll carry the bodies back, can't leave them here to rot" Aurelius groaned, showing a bit of sympathy for the dead.

Virgil found this surprising, even this scoundrel had a bit of honor, the sad thing is that was his only redeeming quality.

"I'll go with the two of you" Bruin said "My contract was with another person, he would understand if I left since everyone is dead but can't leave you two kids on your own"

"Geez, I'm not a kid Bruin" Azura groaned.

"To me you are, young lady. Let's get a move on" the veteran said.

"Follow me then" Vergil said.

The Dark slayer had a way of knowing the right path, he just needed to follow the traces of demonic energy that the caves had lingering. Vergil leads Azura and Bruin through the caves using his ability to sense demon energy to guide them to the right path.

Of course the path wasn't just walking as more Hell Cainas kept appearing but were cut down by the trio, mostly by the son of Sparda but he had to admit that Bruin was getting used quickly to get into a fight with a demon, his experience doing wonders for him.

Vergil was also surprised by Azura's fearless attitude against demons, many would flee in fear and cower against the sight of demons but this girl was fighting them without a care and winning. Vergil had to admit, this girl was special, aside from being one of the few humans he can stand.

With Vergil's help, they went on the right way through the many twists and turns this labyrinth had. Many would have gotten lost and killed by the demons.

"I can't shake something out of my head" Azura confessed.

"What is it?" Bruin asked what bothered the young activist.

"The demons that attacked when we got inside and the ones we fought while walking in this cave, they seemed to be waiting for us, as if they knew they were coming" Azura pointed out.

"This might be new for me but I agree, the door didn't make such a loud nice that they could hear it from here" Bruin agreed with Azura, sharing his thoughts "This was premeditated, it was an ambush"

"Indeed, they were waiting for us since the beginning" Vergil stated as he kept walking.

This worried the two, these demons were already expecting them to come, did they felt them? or did they have scouts and inform the others to prepare an ambush. Vergil was sure it wasn't him as he kept his demonic power in check to avoid unnecessary waste of time but he knew the answer already.

The two were on edge now as they continued advancing, Azura was less on edge as she was used to demons doing this kind of thing but still, this was really fishy. As they kept walking, the demon attacks were less and less meaning one of two things.

The first is that the demons are getting low on numbers as they killed them and the second is that they are preparing an ambush, trying to kill them with higher numbers, the two hoped it was the former.

Soon our trio found themselves in a big room, bigger than the one they were before as this one was twenty times bigger. Azura and Bruin were in awe of what they were seeing, in this big room there was a small village, houses made on the same stone with an…interesting choice of architecture, gothic, a macabre gothic style.

The village aside from the houses made with that dark devilish gothic architecture seemed deserted, not a single soul in sight and was strangely illuminated by a big purple flame in the top of the cave that seemed like it was just floating as nothing was holding it.

In the middle of the village there was a small pedestal that had a glowing purple rock that was floating, this is what Vergil was looking for as he quickly went to grab the item.

"This place is amazing" Azura confessed "Never seen something like this before"

"Yeah, but this palace gives me the creeps" Bruin said, having a bad feeling.

Azura saw Vergil walking towards the purple rock, she figured this is what he was looking for so she followed him while Bruin was checking the place out

"Hey Vergil, is that what you came looking for?" Azura asked her companion.

"Yes" Vergil confirmed as he grabbed the rock "This is a purple orb, a wonder of alchemy"

Vergil showed Azura the purple orb and to her dismay, this orb had a face on it. The sight was unsettling for her as she made a face, Vergil noticed it and stored the orb in his coat, he will use it later. Bruin joined the two after Vergil stored the orb.

"Creepy" She said still unsettled "Well, you have your thing now i gotta get mine"

"Good, the sooner we are done with this place the better" Bruin commented.

"I agree but before we get what you came looking for Azura…" Vergil turned around, his face showing a stern expression "Show yourself, no point in hiding anymore"

This surprised the Azura and Bruin, was there someone or something else here? they quickly got in guard waiting for the worst but to their shock, from the cave they came from appeared someone they never expected.

Verrader, walked out of the cave towards the trio, as if nothing had injured or well, killed him. Verrader walked slowly with a grin on his face and his hands behind his back.

"Well well, seems like I was found out" He admitted "Since when did you figure it out Vergil?"

"Since the beginning" Vergil smirked "I honestly wanted to see for how long you planned to play this game"

"How interesting, I thought I hid my demonic presence," Verrader wondered.

"You did hide it very well" Vergil admitted "But not fully, your smell was also different from the others"

"Wait, you mean that Verrader set us up?!" Bruin grunted in anger

"Yes, this was a trap made by yours truly, Human blood isn't easy to get nowadays with so many hunters and Atlas military roaming around" Verrader shaked his head "But we had a pretty nice feast with the humans we killed"

A sadistic smile stretched in his face as he threw to the trio the head of someone they knew, the head was from Aurelius, he was soon killed after the trio left by the looks of it.

"Oh my god…" Azura gasped at the sight, he didn't like the guy but he didn't deserve that.

"You bastard!" Bruin yelled, he didn't like the kid either but still.

"But you know, this is even better as we didn't expect you Vergil to appear and it was so nice of you to bring Yamato with you, I'll be killing two birds with a stone as a human would say" Verrader laughed darkly.

"Well then, Why don't you try and take it" Vergil smirked as with his thumb he got yamato slightly out of the scabbard.

Verrader started laughing as he started to shake, his body growing bigger as the clothes he had torn to shreds, his skin becoming pale and purple as he transformed. Verrader was now as tall as two fully grown adults, his arms were big and muscular, covered in black scales and below them had blades.

Verrader's face changed to mimic the one of a gorilla with a single horn in the middle of the forehead, his eyes shining in purple with black sclera.

"Feels good to ditch that human form" Verrader said with joy.

"Holy crap…he's a higher demon…" Azura said, now scared, she could take lesser demons but a higher demon? The situation was now dire.

"Damn, is this how we die?" Bruin commented as he got ready for the fight of his life.

"I'll take care of him" Vergil said as he stepped forward "You two take care of the trash"

"Facing me already Vergil? Are you so eager to meet your demise?" Verrader asked, amused by Vergil's intentions.

"C'mon, do you truly think you are on my level, you simple monkey?" Vergil mocked his opponent.

"I shall enjoy killing you, my master shall reward me for your dead" Verrader laughed as he growled, making Hell Cainas appear surrounding the other two "Kill the humans, I will take care of this trash"

Verrader attacked Vergil with his right arm, using the blade to try and cleave the half breed in two but Vergil just dodged the attack stepping to the side. Verrader found this annoying and tried to hit Vergil again with his left arm, doing the same attack to get a similar result.

Vergil simply did a raising cut with Yamato as he dodged the second attack, cutting Verrader's chest slightly on purpose then he sheathed Yamato once more. Verrader growled as he was hurt by the half breed.

More annoyed, Verrader started attacking relentlessly at Vergil, trying to cut him down with the blades on his arms. Vergil used his dark slayer style to avoid the hits and while doing so, hitting Verrader with the mirage blades as he dodged, they weren't painful but they annoyed the demonic gorilla.

"Damn you, stay still so I can kill you!" Verrader grunted.

"What's wrong? Is this all you got? how disappointing" Vergil continued mocking the demon.

"I'll kill you!" Verrader shouted as he started spinning "Dodge this!"

Like a bladed tornado, Verrader got closer to Vergil as he fired his mirage blades that broke in impact with Verrader spinning attack rendering the swords useless for now.

The son of Sparda found this pathetic display amusing. Vergil created eight summoned swords, four on each side of his shoulder and waited for Verrader to get closer to him.

Verrader laughed at Vergil's intentions of using more of the swords against him, they were useless against him right now but Vergil did something that Verrader didn't expect in a million years. As soon the blades of his arms were to hit Vergil he parried them with the Yamato, still sheathed in its scabbard and making Verrader stop immediately by the sheer force of Vergil's strength.

Vergil stepped forward with his right foot, stomping the ground and doing a simple but powerful palm strike with his empty right hand, sending Verrader flying away from him. Vergil decided to send the swords as the trash that was sent flying.

The blades fired like a machine gun, one after the other, hitting the demonic gorilla and exploding with the exception of one. Vergil used this sword that didn't explode to appear in front of Verrader using his Dark Slayer style.

Vergil unsheathed his sword doing a raising slash sending Verrader in the air and then he teleported in front of him. While in the air, Vergil slashed Verrader twice, then he started spinning backwards while slashing the demon multiple times to finish with a downward slash sending the demon crashing to the ground.

Vergil landed using his trick down and sheathed Yamato, he was glaring at the injured demon that was in front of him.

"How boring!" Vergil exclaimed "I expected more of the one that was supposed to kill me"

"Damn…you" Grunted Verrader in pain.

"This barely count as a workout" Vergil turned his head to see that Bruin and Azura were almost finished with the demons "Those two are almost done, pretty good for humans, but we shall end this now"

"I beg you Vergil…don't kill me" Verrader pleaded for his life.

Vergil just smirked as he focused his demonic energy in his sword, preparing a technique that can only be done with the power of the yamato, the judgment cut, an attack that goes beyond space dealing multiple slashes to an enemy at high speed.

"Ashes to ashes!" Vergil stepped backwards as he lowered his stance, grabbing the handle of Yamato and getting it out slightly, then back again.

Instantly, multiple slashes that went through space appeared on Verrader cutting him down, but that didn't end there as Vergil kept doing the attack three more times, killing the demonic gorilla in the process.

"Jackpot" Said the elder brother of Dante, remembering their catchphrase.

Vergil, having finished taking the trash out, walked towards his companions who had just finished their fight against the Hell Cania, they had a couple cuts on them meaning that their aura broke but continued fighting.

This surprised the eldest son of Sparda, these humans continued fighting even if their aura broke, their motivation was good, they deserved his respect.

"Take that…god damn demons…" Bruin collapsed, needing some rest.

"Good job team…" Azura said, breathing heavily.

"Impressive, took that many demons by yourselves" Vergil complimented the two.

"Could say the same, taking a higher demon on your own" Azura was happy to see Vergil unharmed.

"He was nothing, just a weakling" Vergil smirked, boasting a bit to Azura for a strange reason.

"Sheesh Kid, how strong are you?" Bruin asked with sarcasm in his tone.

"Powerfull, but I need to get more power" Vergil admitted.

"Whatever" Azura said now breathing a bit more easier "Let's grab the things and lets leave this place, hopefully the drivers are still there or the trucks"

"Amen" Bruin chuckled.

After looking for a bit, they found what they came looking for, Bruin got a book as he just needed to bring any piece of literature and Azura the cloth that she needed. Now having what they came for, they went away.

When they reached the entrance, to their joy, one of the trucks was still there, with the body of one of the drivers who probably got killed by the demons or Verrader. Not really caring what happened the trio boarded the truck, Bruin got in the driver's seat while Vergil and Azura got behind.

Azura decided that now was a good time to get some sleep, Vergil found it amusing how quickly she felt asleep, shouldn't be surprised, she fought a lot of demons. Vergil also found this to be the perfect moment, Azura was asleep and Bruin distracted with the driving.

The Dark Slayer grabbed the purple orb from his coat, stared at it for a moment then focused on absorbing the energy from the purple orb. Vergil slowly felt as he absorbed the energy that his demonic power grew stronger than before, it wasn't by a lot but it was just what he wanted, to grow stronger.

The trip back to Mantle went without a problem, no Grimm and especially demons in sight. As soon as they reached the City they got out of the truck, finally stretching their tired bodies, well, Azura and Bruin did.

"Well, this was a good story to tell my kids when they are older" Bruin said as he stretched his arms.

"You have kids?!" Azura was surprised.

"Two of them actually, should get back to my family" Bruin laughed "Take care you two"

"You too" Azura said as she waved her hand goodbye.

"Next time we should spar" Vergil said as he nodded goodbye too to the veteran warrior who earned his respect.

"Well, thanks for the help Vergil" Azura said, turning around to his companion "Are you staying in Mantle for a while?"

"I suppose I shall, I have other matters to attend to in the area" Vergil answered, this made Azura happy.

"I see, you know, I have a room rented up there in Atlas for the job that I got from my friend" Azura started blushing "If you want, you can crash there with me"

Vergil knew what she was talking about, the meaning behind her words, he knew this would happen and steeled himself to say no but he had to admit he grew fond of this woman even if she got into his nerves. He asked himself what was he doing?

"It would be my pleasure" Vergil nodded, agreeing to what was about to happen that night.

"Yes!" Azura beamed with happiness, grabbing Vergil by his hand and dragging him away.

Vergil swore that this woman would be the end of him but he felt…safe, something he hasn't felt in a long time, not since when he was a kid with Dante and his mother. And so, the two got to Atlas and to the hotel Azura was staying.

The night passed and so did the hormones of two teenagers. Vergil woke up, later than he expected in the comfy bed of the hotel, he was shirtless and showing his muscular and toned physique.

To his surprise, he was alone, Vergil remembered Azura sleeping on his chest before he fell asleep. He got up off the bed and walked in the middle of the room, to find a plate of food and a note on the dining table.

Vergil, if you wake up and I'm not here because I left to deliver the cloth to my friend in the museum, it shouldn't take long. I left you breakfast so dig in!

PS: Do not ditch me this time okay?

-Azura

Vergil Hmphed at the note, but started eating the food Azura prepared after he got his clothes back. As Vergil ate breakfast he found this situation…nice, is this how Dante feels with his friends? spending time with them, eating breakfast with them? a place and people he can come back to? an alien feeling to Vergil yes but wasn't unwelcome.

Vergil thoughts were shattered when he felt something wrong, a demonic power here in Atlas. Vergil searched for the source of the demonic power, it was close but his eyes widened as he found something else, Azura's energy was by the side of the demonic energy.

Vergil quickly grabbed Yamato and jumped from a window from the hotel room, he didn't have time to go down through the elevator or the stairs. Vergil fell on top of one of the buildings and started jumping from building to building towards Azura.

Why was he worrying about this woman? Vergil didn't understand what he was feeling, this knot in his chest that his human side created, it was bothersome and wanted it gone, wanted this weakness gone.

After a bit Vergil finally reached the museum that was in flames, police and Atlas military were already in the scene but Vergil didn't care at all, and started walking towards the stairs of the museum but was quickly cut off by a soldier.

"This place is off limits, there is a terrorist inside civilian" Said the soldier.

"Let me pass, there is someone inside that is in danger" Vergil said coldly.

"Can't do that, the place is off limits, we'll get everyone out, go back" Said the soldier with a rougher tone.

Vergil didn't have time for this nonsense, He hit the soldier with the scabbard of his sword, sending him flying towards his fellow soldiers and breaking his aura in the process with that one hit.

"Now stay there if you don't want to die" Vergil said as he got inside the museum.

Inside, he saw that the whole museum was in flames, burnt corpses and the displays on fire but he still could feel Azura's energy deeper. Vergil ran quickly through the flaming inferno and saw Azura leaning against a wall, she was badly injured but alive.

"Azura!" Vergil yelled as she kneeled in front of her, feeling the knot in his chest tighter than before.

"Vergil…? You are a sight for sore eyes…" She coughed and grabbed her side in pain "A damn higher demon appeared and started killing everyone, he is powerful…you must run"

"Not leaving you here, you fool" He said, an uncharacteristic side of him, showing care.

"My own knight in shining armor eh?" Azura chuckled as she noticed Vergil of all people being worried about her, she closed her eyes and fainted.

"Damn it…" Vergil muttered but felt relieved to see that she wasn't going to die as her injuries were not mortal.

Vergil quickly stood up and stepped back, gripping yamato tighter. It has been a while since Vergil felt this level of anger, this demon will die.

"Show yourself" Vergil said coldly.

A pillar of flames appeared in front of him, the demon finally appeared. the flames from the pillar dissipated showing a demon, same looking to the one his brother killed.

"Ah, the son of Sparda, Vergil" Said the demon with a raspy tone, as if sandpaper was being brushed against stone "You are finally here, my subordinate Verrader had no chance against you"

"So you are the master of that weakling" Vergil scoffed.

"Yes, I was his master but we both served the great Mundus…same as my brother Volcano did until your brother killed him" the demon said with venom as his body expelled fire "I, Inferno shall avenge his death by killing you, the other twin and show your corpse to Dante"

"A petty revenge? how boring" Vergil chuckled but his face changed to a stern one "I have one question Inferno"

"What would that question be?" asked the demon with curiosity.

"Did you hurt that woman?" Vergil asked, coldly.

"Ah yes, that human woman, she put up a good fight but she was just the bait for you so I let her live" Inferno laughed "I've seen she is quite fond of you sparda's offspring"

"I see, thank you for that…Now I shall give you a quick death" Vergil said slowly, his eyes turning to a lighter blue with the sclera turning blue too.

"You are the one who shall die here, for my master and my brother's sake!" Inferno Roared "Fear my power!".

Infero tried to impale Vergil with his claws but was stopped by a purple barrier that protected the eldest son of Sparda. Vergil was surrounded by a blue aura as he started focusing his demonic energy, he was going all out. This trash really thought he could face the son of Sparda?

"You will not forget this devil's power!" Vergil said as he transformed into his demon form, blue scales covered his body as he assumed this demonic appearance, his power multiplied significantly and his voice changed "You are not worthy as my opponent!"

"What is this power?!" Inferno cowered by the sheer power that Vergil was emanating.

"You shall die" Vergil growled

Vergil lowered his stance, similar to the one he uses for the judgment cut, he was going to show inferno True Power. The eldest son of Sparda was emanating a huge amount of energy that blew the fires away inside the museum.

Vergil dashed towards inferno and multiple after images appeared going to different places then Vergil disappeared with said after images.

An endless amount of slashes that cut through space appeared but no one could see them, not even Inferno could see them. Vergil landed in the same position he started in with the after images doing the same. He was kneeling and his back facing inferno as he slowly sheathed Yamato.

When the katana clicked he reverted to his human form and Inferno was starting to feel every single cut that Vergil did in a second and in that same second he realized he picked a fight he couldn't win. The next second Inferno died from the attack, Vergil's ultimate attack, Judgment Cut End.

Vergil stood up, not caring to turn around and see Azura, he retreated to his mental palace. He wondered why he went to this length to save Azura, this isn't his goal and why his human side was making him do this? The answer was clear, he cared about this woman.

This is what was the strange feeling he had earlier, he cared for Azura, she could fight demons, has a strong attitude and doesn't fear him. Vergil found this endearing but he remembered what happened years ago.

The attack on the mansion, yes, he was too weak and he almost died as Dante almost did but their mother didn't have that chance. Mother…a mother that abandoned him choosing his little brother, didn't matter if she did as she is dead anyway.

Vergil doesn't want to feel like that again, but he just did when he felt Azura was in danger.

"Might controls everything…without it you cannot protect anything" Vergil turned his head to see Azura for a moment then his own right hand "let alone yourself"

Vergil needed to be stronger, he needed more power so he wouldn't feel like this again. He didn't care what lengths he had to go to achieve this power.

The Dark Slayer already had a goal, obtain his father's power, the power of Sparda, become the absolute being so nothing can take anything from him, so he doesn't feel weak anymore.

This human emotion he felt for Azura, must be discarded as the feeling he felt before in the hotel room.

Finding a safe place to return? foolishness, he will create it himself when he obtains his father's power meaning that thinking about that is useless, just another weakness he needs to discard.

No time to hesitate, he knows what must be done and his human side must know his place and stay there, deep down where he cannot waste his time with pathetic emotions. He only hopes Dante gets to this same conclusion and avoids the hassle.

Vergil started walking away but a voice stopped him.

"Citizen, this area is off limits" A white haired woman said, she was wearing Atlas military uniform, her skin was pale and had blue eyes, a Schnee.

"Late as always" Vergil scoffed "Already took care of your problem"

The woman looked behind Vergil to find the corpse of the demon, she was shocked at the sight of that monstrosity, it didn't look like any Grimm she had faced before, but if this man defeated it alone despite the military sending many soldiers…she must take him in for questioning.

"I see, thank you for the assistance" The woman said with a small bow "I am Winter Schnee, specialist from Atlas Military and we have questions about what happened here"

Of course she was going to try and take him for questioning, Vergil found this annoying

"No, I already wasted too much time with this detour and I don't have time for games" Vergil said coldly to the Schnee, with a lot of aggressiveness in his tone.

"It doesn't matter, we must take you for questioning about that creature" She stated, she grabbed her sable.

"Give me a break" Vergil scoffed "if you want me to answer, make me but I'm afraid you are too weak to do so"

"Fool, if that is what you want then I will oblige" Winter lost it, it was enough with Qrow making fun of her now this stranger is questioning her authority and making fun of her.

Winter dashed towards Vergil with her sable in hand, ready to take down the stranger but to her surprise he just parried her attack and hit her with a palm strike. Winter could feel an extreme pain running through her body as she was sent flying and her aura breaking.

She crashed against a wall and collapsed to the ground, she barely raised her head to see the man who dealt this amount of damage to her, staying awake by sheer willpower.

"Learn your place" Vergil said coldly then turned around to see Azura "That woman over there is still alive, take care of her wounds"

Vergil started walking away after giving her that order but stopped for a moment, turning to see Winter once again.

"Next time you try to stop me or stand in my way, I will kill you" Vergil said even colder than before, his words cutting like the blade he had in his hand.

Winter just nodded in fear, this man broke her aura with just a palm strike, not even using his weapon…she feared him, she was scared of this man, of this monster and she knew he wasn't just threatening her, he was promising her death.

With that said Vergil disappeared using his Dark Slayer style. Vergil teleported himself on top of a building not far from the museum, giving it a last look before he discards all those useless emotions, Dante can have them if he wants but him? He has better things to do than wasting time with human matters and emotions.

Vergil soon disappeared in Mantle as a shadow that would not be found unless he wanted and if someone did, well, they better prepare themselves to face death as no one will stop him from gaining his rightful power, not the hunters, not Atlas, not the demons who hunted him and not even Dante will stop him.

What the Dark Slayer didn't realize is that he left a piece of him that day in Atlas, a decision that probably will bite him in the long run.

Meanwhile in another building, a person wearing a golden mask who watched everything was sitting by the edge of the roof.

"His Holiness will be pleased to hear this" Golden mask after witnessing everything.

Ahhhhhhhh will leave it at this for now. So, my thoughts in this chapter, this is a beefy one and has a couple of things that I wanted to do. First is to give Nero's mom an identity, like c'mon! I understand if Sparda will never appear as the mystery of Sparda is too good to show (actually might ruin the legend if he does) so I decided to create Azura.

So, creating Azura needed two things, one that she is actually capable in combat and killing demons so she could impress Vergil, second to have an attitude that could match him, give her a certain fire and i think i did and also Naginata (to be honest i love Naginatas, such a cool polearm!)

One of the things is to show that Vergil has complicated feelings about her, first, he is someone who grew alone and dealt with his trauma in the worst way, finding companionship in Azura is something alien to him and dealing with the emotions she creates inside of him is strange, he cannot understand them fully and find this as a weakness.

There is also the struggle he has with his human side as he embraced his demonic heritage unlike Dante who is the other face of the coin, Dante finds his humanity as a strength while Vergil as a weakness, that's why at the end he decided to discard the emotions he felt about Azura and the idea of having a place to return, for him…just another weakness that must be shoved aside. Reason why he says to himself the same words that he will tell Dante in the future.

Also wanted to show that despite everything, he still cares about his little brother in his own way

Wanted also to show that Vergil is a warrior at heart and finding someone who does the same thing as he does, honing his skills is something that he can respect so that's the job I gave Bruin. To be honest this chapter is to show Vergil struggles with his humanity and his strength compared to Dane, while Vergil likes to play with his prey, not as much as Dante he tends to take less time. I hope I did a good job at that.

Also, that little cliffhanger from Golden Mask, yeah, lots of things related to Fortuna.

So, Reviews time.

Erik: As of lately, i'll start with you my dude. Well, Blake is someone who hid something and read the book from Sparda and imo, she is more the more perspective of all, she knowing will lead to something later on.

And here is the chapter, i hope you enjoy it, took me some time to finish, still having lots of stuff on my plate and no, i did not plan to give Vergil a Devil Arm, Yamato is enough for him for now and he'll get Beowulf later in the tower. About Cinder and Oran, kinda? it's not like they are going to ask him to join him as he would probably cut them down, you'll see when we get there on what they have planned.

About the timelines, well, I am already taking liberties with the stories hahahaha. but yeah, they are kinda going to mix so more liberties are going to take place, if you add an important actor to a story the story would probably change in many places so in this the stories are going to change in certain aspects in the DMC and RWBY, i just can hope that i do a good job.

And don't worry, The Temen Ni Gru won't appear in the fall of beacon, it will be way to overkill for Vale, but the fall of beacon will happen at it normally would as it is rather important for the story as it breaks a safe heaven for everyone, specially if there is more people in play with more power, i already have some of it planned and the actors who'll be playing it so yeah, Fall of beacon will happen as it normally would but there are things that are going to happen that are different.

Sweet, not a fan of kingdom hearts but send me the link in a DM, i'll give it a look my dude.

Don't worry, i'll tone down the "I won't become a demon" from Dante, he says it just to calm his friends even if he knows already he is one and he will accept it later on, but i needed it here so we could see the big difference between Dante and Vergil perspectives.

The Temen Ni Gru will happen, don't worry but we gotta wait, remember that it happens a year after the fated meeting of the twins and they haven't met yet and like i said before, i already know when and where it will appear, i actually think i said where it will appear (checks last review answers) i didn't but it would be kinda spoiling it? if you don't mind spoilers DM me and i'll explain it to ya.

To be honest, i haven't played the RWBY games (tho i kinda want to) or red the novels, if i have time to read them and play them i'll gladly would see if we could add something from there to the stories and to be honest, Weiss bringing a meteor to the planned using her semblance is crazy but we have Dante, he is CRAZY incaranted if we are honest…HE RODE A DAMN ROCKET! one of my fav scenes from DMC3

Also, Funny thing, I still have my copy of DMC 3 for the Ps2 but i have the HD collection on steam, same as 4 and 5, played through all except 2…i just can't it feels so clunky, so ugh, also there is audio bugs that made a high pitched sound that almost made me go deft. But yeah, when the time comes, i'll replay it a bit or at least the important parts so i can refresh my memories.

Anyway dude, stay safe in the meanwhile okay? Send me a DM so i can check your KH story and if you want i can explain more of what is going to happen if you don't mind spoilers of this story.

LtButterfly287: Well, you would be right if it was Dante after DMC3 where his inhuman strength is beyond human thanks to his awakened demon powers even so, he couldn't destroy a mountain with a punch, that would be after DMC1. To be honest, Dante did have amnesia in the DMC novel (who is semi canon) and he remembered after Nell's death so in this case, i took care of Dante forgetting when he was a kid, still weak, a bit stronger than other kids yeah but not to the point of being a danger.

Guardian of the Treasure: Glad you are enjoyed the chapter and you like the story, yeah i've seen other fics where is fully focused on Dante but i want to give the characters more of an active rol so i'm kinda working on how to still make them relevant in a world that demons exist so they aren't left behind and they can interact with Dante more. Vergil does care for Dante but in his own way, kinda hard to explain.

English Part: Well, it is true that what has been show so far about the brothers isn't the big thing compared to mundus, but i like the mystery, maybe i'll make them stronger so the Godhood status isn't lost by a lot, but we cannot deny that they do have power, reviving, creating bodies, destructive power, not to the point of Mundus or Argosax but i'll do something.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Cap.

AAAANYWAY, till next time, i'm tired it's 5 Am where i am and i need some sleep, i stayed all night so i could finish this chapter and do a bit of corrections, thank god for weekends and free days. Till next chapter, we'll be back with the legendary demon hunter

*Proceeds to fall face down in his own bed falling asleep almost immediately*
