Ty watched Amy go toward Jack shaking his head. Jack had always been stubborn. Wanting to do everything himself. A loud crash beside him caused him to look at what happened. The man beside him had knocked all the condiments all over the floor. "The business here sucks!" He slammed his hand on the counter. The waitress turned at his voice and realized this wasn't going to end well. Ty caught her expression and turned his head to the right to see what had caught her attention. Ty was frozen with fear as the man pulled the gun from his pocket. "Nobody move! Give me all the money from the register."
The waitress was so shocked she just stared at him.
"Now!" His voice billowed through the small restaurant.
Ty turned to glance at Amy but realized that too was a mistake. "All the money, or I shoot him." The gun was now pressed into Ty's side.

Amy felt all the blood leave her face. The man was shifting the gun between the waitress behind the counter and Ty who stood far too close to him. Jack touched Amy's back slowly to get her attention and let her know he was there.
"Put your phones on the table or counter." He shouted waving his gun. There were two ranchers at table in the far corner, a women seated at the counter and a boy who worked in the feed part. Luckily it wasn't busy given it was during the week. Everyone compiled and set there phones down. Amy took notice though that Jack hadn't removed his from his pocket. For better or worse, the idea that someone his age even had one was probably playing in Jack's head. But Amy was too terrified to keep her mind on that. She was more scared at the fact that Ty was in the line of fire and she knew Ty well enough to know he wasn't one to play by the rules. He was all about heroics. Which at this moment could get someone or himself hurt.
Ty had other thoughts on his mind. It hit him that he has been in the man's shoes once before. He had held up a restaurant at gun point for some cash out of the register. Now being on the other side of it and seeing Amy's scared face made him think twice about what he had put those poor innocent people through.
"Now get me all the all money from the till and I'll be on my way. Nobody gets hurt."
The waitress was still frozen with fear. Ty glanced back at Amy. "Get him the money." Ty commented in a softer voice to the lady.
"Hey." The man brought the gun back toward Ty. This time aimed at his shoulder.
"I'm just trying to help. She's scared."
Amy felt Jack squeeze her shoulder tighter. Neither fully understanding what Ty was doing.
"Get the money." He directed his remark back to the waitress.
"I can't." She whispered.
"What?" He brought the gun up toward her. She screamed.
Ty forced his arms up in defense and spoke. "Let her go. I'll get you the money."
"How?"
"I can break into the register." Ty's voice cracked. He had heard Amy let out a gasp at his comment. She was about to witness first hand the type of guy he was. "Let her go. Nobody wants to get hurt." Ty tried again trying to bring the man's gaze back toward him.
It worked. He pointed the gun back at Ty. "Okay, do it then." He shoved Ty toward the opening in the counter.
Ty took a long glance at Amy. Her expression was so scared. Tears were pooling in her eyes as she silently pleaded with him to be careful or not do it. He wasn't sure. Jack held his hand firmly on Amy's shoulder grounding her. Or keeping her from doing something just as stupid. "I'll get you the money if you let these people go." Ty tried to reason as he made his way in front of the register.
"And have them call the cops the minute I let them go. I don't think so." He barked.
The waitress stepped aside keeping her hands on the counter to show she didn't mean any harm.
"I'm gonna need a screwdriver or something to pry this open." He said over his shoulder to the women.

Lisa placed by the window for the tenth time wondering why Jack and Amy hadn't returned from town yet. It wasn't like either of them to linger. She on the other hand could spend all day shopping. She picked up her phone off the kitchen table and dialed Jack's number again. It rang and rang until it went to his voicemail. She sighed. Amy's phone was doing the same which made things more concerning. Sure Jack had a tendency of forgetting it or even not remembering how to answer it. There was no point on leaving him a voicemail or text. He had no idea how to retrieve them. "Hey, honey. Just wondering where you and Jack are. Call me if you get a chance." She spoke softly trying not to sound concerned. She raced out onto the porch when she heard the sound of gravel but sighed disappointed when it was only Tim.
"Well, hello to you too." He said seeing her disappointment. He slammed his truck door. "Amy here? She's not answering my calls."
"No. She's not returning mine either." This was really concerning her now.
"Well, I'm sure she's out of cell range. I'll wait till she's back from her ride."
"That's the thing. She's in town with Jack." She watched Tim's expression change as he sat down on the bench.
"Wait, what?"
""I know. It makes no sense. I'm getting a bit worried."

"Here." The waitress slowly passed Ty a butter knife.
Ty looked less then excited about the tool of choice. But knew getting a screwdriver was practically impossible.
"Hurry up!" The man shouted annoyed that this quick robbery was taking so long.
Jack had been buying his time and paying close attention to the man. He was too focused on Ty and getting money that he was no longer paying much attention to the patrons in the diner. He slowly moved his hand into his pocket. Waiting several seconds before pulling it out just enough to see half the screen. He swiped his phone and clicked emergency call. He swallowed hard when Amy turned her head to look at him sensing the movement. He shook his head at her slightly hoping she would turn back around which she did. But the look of fear she had on her face got worse. He didn't blame her she was terrified of Ty getting shot. But him risking getting caught was adding undo stress his granddaughter couldn't take. But someone had to do something. He pushed the phone back into his pocket. He couldn't talk to dispatch but they would be able to track his location and send someone. He just hoped they got here before this man got his money.
Ty got to work on the lock of the cash register. He finally managed to wedge the knife in the opening and jiggle the front open. The bell ringing loudly in the otherwise quiet diner. Everyone waiting with batted breath.
"Get out of my way." The man shouted now shoving Ty out of the way so hard he crashed into the waitress and both fell to the floor. The noise causing the man to turn sharply. The gun in his hand going off.
"Ty!" Amy shirked a loud sob escaping her mouth. Jack did his best to keep her from running toward the counter but failed. She had darted forward and out of reach. She stopped in her tracks when she heard the sirens. The gun man doing the same as he dropped the handful of money he had. He was now trapped and there was possibly someone shot. His gaze went to Amy as she stood frozen not knowing what to do. Tears were streaming down her face in fear for Ty and now her own life.
